A: Madam Walker arrived in Indianapolis in February 1910. She was born Sarah Breedlove in Delta, Louisiana in 1867 and moved to St. Louis in 1888, then to Denver in 1905 after founding the Madam C. J. Walker Manufacturing Company. She and C. J. settled in Pittsburgh in 1908 after traveling for a year and a half throughout the southwestern and southern United States. They moved from Pittsburgh to Indianapolis in February 1910.
