DC has a long history of animated adaptations. They range from TV shows to full-length feature films and even popular video game franchises. The DC Universe plans to add more animated shows, including the recent Creature Commandos. Unfortunately, most of its animated features focus entirely on either Batman or Superman.
While Batman and Superman are iconic figures, finding any DC content that does not revolve around them is a challenge. Wonder Woman has a few specials, but most characters struggle to stand out by themselves. Thankfully, some DC animated movies focus on characters besides the two legendary heroes.

While James Gunn's first official entry in the new DC Universe - the animated Creature Commandos - is dominating the Max streaming service, DC animated movies of yesteryear have moved over to a popular free streamer. And they're among some of the franchise's best.
Marvel Studios has led the live-action film space over the last decade-plus, but DC has long held the front line in the animated medium. The Dcau (DC Animated Universe) features dozens of standalone and interlinked movies, adapting some of the most popular DC Comics stories of all time.
Over a dozen animated DC movies have landed on the Tubi streaming service for free. The list of new additions includes old classics like Superman: Doomsday (released in 2007), and newer favorites, like Constantine: City of Demons (2018). The full list of titles added to the platform is astounding, and would be twice the length of this article.

My Adventures with Superman and Batman: Caped Crusader add to DC's long and growing list of Superman and Batman animated shows. Meanwhile, Wonder Woman has never starred in her own animated show. She has only received two animated movies and has appeared as a supporting character in ensemble shows or other characters' animated series. With James Gunn's Dcu prioritizing animation, now could be the perfect time for an animated Wonder Woman series.
The DC animated shows My Adventures with Superman and Batman: Caped Crusader present a fresh take on Superman and Batman, yet they also demonstrate a big problem with DC's adaptations. My Adventures with Superman season 2 continues Clark Kent's modernized story in 2024 with the threat of foes such as Amanda Waller, Metallo, and Supergirl herself. Meanwhile, Batman: Caped Crusader is set to introduce a young Batman who establishes himself as Gotham's only hero. Both My Adventures with...

Wonder Woman has often been depicted with a smaller physique compared to her male Justice League counterparts, but recent DC animated movies have portrayed her with a more imposing and athletic build. The recent DC animated comedy DC League of Super-Pets originally had a design for Wonder Woman with massive shoulders and a bulkier upper torso, but the final design went for a more conventional look. The rejection of the bulkier Wonder Woman design raises questions about why the character's brute strength is often underutilized, and highlights the need for a unique visual design for Wonder Woman in future projects.
Apart from Gal Gadot’s stint as Wonder Woman in the DC Extended Universe, the superhero has also appeared in a slew of DC animated movies, with one of them almost giving her an intimidating physique like never before. Along with her immense range of superpowers and mythical origins, Wonder...

Though they've made a fraction of the box office of even the worst DC live-action movie, creatively the crown jewel of DC Comics adaptations lies in their animated movies. It's through animation that the potential of comic book adaptations really shines. Ever since "Superman: Doomsday" was released in 2007, we've had movies that faithfully adapt popular comics storylines (rather than just borrow the name for brand recognition and throw the rest away), original films with wild concepts, and even movies that build on continuity like the biggest cinematic universes.
This is one of the most interesting aspects of the DC animated movies, because there are two proper continuities, each building up characters and storylines and exploring giant crossovers in a way DC has not come even close to figuring out in live-action.
Given how little resources Warner Bros. have used to properly market this universe or make sure audiences are aware of its continuity,...

Exclusive: Clint Eastwood’s Juror No. 2 at Warner Bros. has rounded its cast with Amy Aquino, Adrienne C. Moore, Cedric Yarbrough, Chikako Fukuyama and Onix Serrano.
The movie follows Justin Kemp, played by Nicholas Hoult, who while serving as a juror in a high-profile murder trial, finds himself struggling with a serious moral dilemma — one he could use to sway the jury verdict and potentially convict–or free–the wrong killer. Eastwood is producing under his Malpaso banner in addition to directing off of Jonathan Abrams’ screenplay. The pic is currently shooting in Georgia.
Also part of the ensemble are Toni Collette (prosecutor), Gabriel Basso (accused), Zoey Deutch (Kemp’s wife), Leslie Bibb (juror), Chris Messina (public defender), and Kiefer Sutherland (Kemp’s AA sponsor).
Also producing for Malpaso are Tim Moore and Jessica Meier, and Dichotomy’s Adam Goodman & Matt Skiena. EPs are Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Jeremy Bell and David M. Bernstein.

It seems hard to believe, but December is once again just around the corner. Another rollercoaster year comes to a close with the last month of 2023, and as is the case with every month, it's time for streaming services to reshuffle their libraries. As we enter the holiday season, it's time for classic comedies and new favorites; but of course, that also means some things have to go as well. And Warner Bros. Discovery streaming service Max is no exception on that front. The movies leaving Max this December include (but are not limited to) The Man From U.N.C.L.E. (2015), the Annabelle movies (2014-2017), Blade Runner 2049 (2017), A Christmas Story (1983) and its 2012 sequel A Christmas Story 2, all three Crocodile Dundee movies (1986-2001), the Final Destination franchise (2000-2011), and, most sadly of all, Paddington 2 (2017). Interestingly, the service is also bidding goodbye to a number of DC titles, including the classic 1966 Batman,...

With over a hundred acting credits to her name, when it comes to selecting Rosario Dawson's best movies and TV shows, there are plenty to choose from. She's been delighting audiences ever since her first ever on-screen appearance, at age 15, as "Girl in the Emergency Room" in a 1993 episode of Sesame Street. She went on to star in her first feature film, Kids, just two years later. Unlike many other child stars, Dawson wasn't a "nepo baby," as she didn't come from rich or famous parents, meaning that she can truly claim to be a self-made success.
Before becoming an actor, Dawson was thinking about becoming a marine biologist (via US Weekly). Thankfully for audiences worldwide, she made a career in film and television, and at this point, she has countless amazing roles behind her. Themyscira is known as the home of Wonder Woman, but there is so much more to the civilization than its most famous member. The nation of Themyscira has appeared before in both TV and films, with several iterations making it to the screen, including those in the animated series Justice League, Wonder Woman: Bloodlines, and most recently, Dceu films. But with Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman 3 canceled and a reboot for DC movies, Themyscira seems to be taking a bigger role than before.

Since 2007 DC has released a steady stream of direct-to-video animated movies featuring their iconic characters. These ambitious features have been praised for their aim at a more adult audience with many of the movies rated PG-13 and even R. While the plots often adapt classic comic book storylines, their most recent film, Batman: Soul of the Dragon is an original story from the minds of director Sam Liu, writer Jeremy Adams, and executive producer Bruce Timm.

900 numbers for polling purposes, charging users for each call placed, was a 1980s fad that seemed perfect to employ in comic books for some sort of stunt. Editor Denny O’Neil and DC’s Marketing team, led by Bruce Bristow, conceived of the stunt and Jim Starlin wrote the four-part “Death in the Family” storyline to accommodate the stunt. Jason Todd, the second Robin, never was accepted by fans, either under his father, writer Gerry Conway or the post-Crisis writers Max Allan Collins and Jim Starlin. Callers got to say he would live or die.
It went on to become a media sensation, and a closer than expected vote. It also brought down the wrath of Warner Bros who was unaware of the event and the press attention because, back then, DC was a pimple on the conglomerate’s butt and no one considered telling them.

The DC Animated Movie Universe wraps up its epic storyline with the bloody Justice League Dark: Apokolips War. A first strike attack on Darkseid (Tony Todd) leads to devastating slaughter for Earth and its heroes. Beloved characters meet cruel fates with a few surprising twists along the way. The big moments work, but too many details are lost in the relatively short runtime. The scope of the plot warranted more exposition. That said, the action and animation are fantastic. Justice League Dark: Apokolips War is certainly entertaining.

Since we’re in a long wait between live-action Wonder Woman movies, it makes sense for Warner Animation to fill the gap. I just wish they filled it with something stronger than the just-released Wonder Woman: Bloodlines. The story is mostly about Diana and Vanessa Kapatelis with a hideous cabal of rogues attempting to plunder the technology of Themyscira.
It looks like it should fit in the animated continuity but it doesn’t really. We’re treated to a lengthy pre-credit sequence that recaps her origin and rushes things so quickly, that you blink and we’ve gone from Diana (Rosario Dawson) rescuing Steve Trevor (Jeffrey Donovan) to her leaving paradise for Man’s World and suddenly is allied with Etta Candy (Adrienne C. Moore) as they go to hang out with Dr. Julia Kapatelis (Nia Vandalos).

As 2019 begins winding down, the last entry into the line of DC Universe animated films to be released during this calendar year arrives in the form of Wonder Woman: Bloodlines. For those keeping track, the Amazon Warrior has appeared in many animated team-up flicks in this decade alone, but it’s worth pointing out how this is her first solo outing since 2009’s Wonder Woman. Much like that standalone, this direct-to-video gem is a triumph, and I hope it doesn’t take Warner Bros. long to green light a sequel.
Before I delve further into discussing the specifics of this picture, I can’t help thinking it was originally intended to coincide with Wonder Woman 1984‘s theatrical release. In fact, I’d previously wondered if Bloodlines would be delayed into mid-2020 in order to line up with the Gal Gadot-led feature since it’d been pushed. Well, that didn’t happen,...

Wonder Woman: Bloodlines takes a melodramatic step back from the greatness of DC's last two years of animated films. There's action a plenty and a fair amount of entertainment value, but the story does not match the excellence of recent offerings. The script by Mairghread Scott treads sappy. The mother, daughter, and sister dynamics explored become soap opera-esque. The villains are underdeveloped with a muddy agenda. I wanted more depth from the Villainy Inc. storyline. Wonder Woman: Bloodlines is watchable in its mediocrity, but is not comparable with The Death of Superman, its sequel Reign of the Supermen, and the superb Batman: Hush.
Wonder Woman: Bloodlines begins five years in the past, before the events of Justice League: War. Fighter pilot Steve Trevor (Jeffrey Donovan) crashes into the ocean while battling Darkseid's Parademons. Luckily, he crosses the magical barrier that hides the Amazon refuge of Themyscira. He's saved...

BizarroTV will be a mix of live action, animation, and puppetry bringing weirdness like Ambush Bug and Space Cabbie to DC Universe.
DC Universe announced a number of new projects at New York Comic Con, and the most stunning announcement is probably BizarroTV.
The show, named after the backwards-talking supervillain (?) from the Superman family, is planned as an anthology series that will feature a live action and animation mix with, “a showcase of experimental styles and creative voices and visions.” So...Liquid Television but for DC superheroes. That's a very different approach to take with a superhero show, but not an entirely surprising one for the streaming service that birthed the absurdist masterpiece that was Doom Patrol.
The show will feature less popular heroes like Ambush Bug (imagine Deadpool with the Beyonder’s powers and general temperament), Space Cabbie (exactly what it says on the label), the Creeper,...

Harley Quinn, a bawdy, made-for-adults animated series starring Kaley Cuoco as the daft but deranged fan-favorite character, will premiere November 29 on DC Universe, the subscription streaming service that is beginning its second year of service.
Harley Quinn executive producers Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker made the announcement about the scheduling news during the DC Universe presentation as part of the Day 1 programming at New York Comic Con. The TV show news comes just two days after the release of the trailer for the upcoming Warner Bros. feature film that also spotlights the mercurial Harley Quinn.
The “irreverent” cartoon series features a fractured revamp of the The Mary Tyler Moore Show theme song. Here is the trailer:

Warner Bros. Animation have been adapting numerous classic DC comics for the screen for the past few years, but they’ve still got many more to go. They might be about to tick another seminal storyline off the list, though, as We Got This Covered has been informed that an animated adaptation of Batman: Death in the Family is in development.
Written by Jim Starlin and illustrated by Jim Aparo in 1988, the arc’s infamous for featuring the kidnapping, torture and eventual murder of Jason Todd, the second Robin, at the hands of the Joker. Fans will know that the gruesome end for the sidekick was voted for by bloodthirsty readers. Although, of course, Todd was eventually resurrected and became the anti-hero Red Hood.

Once we’re ready to put 2019 behind us, I’m confident that we’ll be able to say this year was a great time for DC animation. In my view, Reign of the Supermen, Justice League vs. The Fatal Five and Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were each impressive to varying degrees, with Batman: Hush dazzling audiences most recently.
If those weren’t enough, the talented folks behind these flicks have one more ace up their sleeve, that being Wonder Woman: Bloodlines. For those not up to speed, they should know this’ll be an original tale developed for the direct-to-video market, as opposed to an adaptation of any specific comic book. Furthermore, it’ll indeed take place within the New 52-inspired continuity begun by Justice League: War – only it’s set earlier on the timeline.

With the debut of the newest DC animated movie, Batman: Hush, comes a fresh batch of information about its successor. DC has finally given us a good look at Wonder Woman: Bloodlines, the last movie on the slate for 2019, and while much of the information released is not new, there is one extremely promising tidbit that is officially out in the world.
Rosario Dawson continues as Diana, a role she will be playing for the sixth time, and she is joined on the project by veteran comics and cartoon writer Mairghread Scott. Scott has written Diana before, on screen for Justice League Action and on the page as part of Wonder Woman's 75th anniversary special. You might recognize her name from a fun run on Batgirl or as one of the minds behind Windblade and Victarion,...

With Batman: Hush now in our rearview mirror (you can check out our review for that one here), our attention now turns toward the next major entry in the hallowed library of DC animated movies. If you’ve been keeping up with recent news, then you know that to be Wonder Woman: Bloodlines.
To bring those late to the party up to speed, know this flick does indeed follow the New 52-inspired continuity begun by Justice League: War – but it’s set earlier on the timeline. From the look of it, we could consider it animation’s answer to Wonder Woman: Year One, though I must be quick to point out this isn’t an adaptation of Greg Rucka and Nicola Scott’s work on the comic book side. I mean, it’s possible some cues could be taken from the book, but this is an original story.

Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for Wonder Woman: Bloodlines. This is the latest in what DC has dubbed simply the DC Universe Movies, but it comes from a much longer line of animated DC Comics adaptations that, on the whole, have been embraced in a big way by fans. Where some of the live-action movies have left something to be desired in the eyes of many, these animated offerings tend to please and this looks to be no exception, as we've got a big, slick spectacle on the way.
The trailer kicks off with the familiar origin story for Diana Prince, who decides to become a hero to the human race after saving a man named Steve Trevor. Beyond that, the footage we see here is loaded down with action. We see Wonder Woman duking it out with the likes of Giganta, amongst many other foes. Things eventually...

Odd as it may seem, a certain Amazon Warrior hasn’t actually headlined an animated film of her own since 2009’s Wonder Woman. She’s played a huge part in numerous direct-to-video Justice League flicks in the time since, sure, but it’s probably safe to say her fanbase has been waiting with bated breath for some sort of followup.
Thankfully, the hiatus will end later this year once Wonder Woman: Bloodlines arrives on home video. According to a first look featurette included on the Batman: Hush Blu-ray (stay tuned to We Got This Covered for our full review pertaining to that one), this tale will indeed fall in line with the New 52-inspired continuity started with Justice League: War – but it’ll take place earlier in Diana’s superhero career.

Like the recently released Justice League vs. The Fatal Five and the upcoming Wonder Woman: Bloodlines, this is an original story and won’t be based on any comic book in particular.

Now that the likes of Year One, The Dark Knight Returns, The Killing Joke and Under the Red Hood are out of the way, it’s long overdue that Batman: Hush be adapted as an animated film. Not only does the source material remain my favorite comic book story arc to feature the Caped Crusader, but it also serves as a perfect jumping on point because it includes so many essential characters.

If you were to ask me, 2019 is shaping up to be one heck of a year for DC animation. Already, we’ve been impressed by Reign of the Supermen and Justice League vs. The Fatal Five, with the long awaited Batman: Hush adaptation also set to arrive sometime this summer. Wonder Woman: Bloodlines, meanwhile, is scheduled for release in the fall, but I wouldn’t doubt if that gets pushed to 2020 so that it can coincide with Wonder Woman 1984‘s theatrical debut.
Much to my delight, a fifth offering was worked into the middle of that slate, as Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has been confirmed for a late spring release. Not only is this making a fantasy many of us have been pondering since childhood a reality, but it should also satisfy fans of the comic book crossover which served as inspiration.

2019 is shaping up to be an amazing year for DC animation. Already, we’ve seen the impressive Reign of the Supermen, and if that weren’t enough, Justice League vs. The Fatal Five arrives in April, with the long awaited Batman: Hush adaptation also set to debut at some point this summer. Wonder Woman: Bloodlines, meanwhile, is scheduled for release in the fall and finally, we have the cherry on top of it all in the form of Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
The Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic book miniseries written by James Tynion IV and illustrated by Freddie Williams II is acting as the source material for this effort and given that every character was penned perfectly, not to mention the narrative itself being top notch as well, our hopes are certainly high for this one.
