The film is inspired by the real life case of Wisconsin 12 year olds, Anissa Weier and Morgan Geyser, who on May 31st 2014, lured their friend Payton Leutner into the woods near Geyser's home and stabbed her 19 times in an attempt to impress the urban legend, Slender Man.
