On April 14, Deadline broke the news that, after a bidding war, Netflix had secured a new thriller series adaptation based on the book Dead Letters by Caite Dolan-Leach. Lucy Hale (Pretty Little Liars) is set to star and executive produce the drama with Alex Cooper's (Call Her Daddy ) Unwell Productions and Aaron Laplan's Kaptial Entertainment.
The project took off because Lucy Hale loved reading the book. After talking to her manager, Leeds, they looped in Kaplan to collaborate on the thriller series. It's no surprise that Hale is set to play identical twins, Ava and Zelda. Her love for the story could prove crucial to the success of this upcoming Netflix show. Book adaptations can be tricky, but having a fan of the book star in and produce it sounds like a win.

When Sally Thorne's "The Hating Game" was released in 2018, it became what one can only call a TikTok sensation. While the term itself does not inspire confidence for a plethora of reasons, Thorne's rom-com novel made a tangible mark on ardent lovers of the romance genre. Sure, it isn't as influential as Sarah J. Mass' "A Court of Thorns and Roses" book series, but "The Hating Game" checked all the genre boxes that make a rom-com enjoyable. The central couple in question — Lucy Hutton and Joshua Templeman — fulfill the classic enemies-to-lovers trope, oscillating between mutual hatred and a budding tension tinged with silly, feel-good shenanigans.
This is not the kind of novel that etches out complex characters or devastates you with its taut storytelling. However, "The Hating Game" is a solid genre entry that succeeds in making good use of cliched tropes while weaving a love story worth rooting for.

Your favorite streamer is back this week with a somewhat manageable 16 new titles this week. Maybe Netflix figured out that adding a hundred hours of shows in one week was a bit much, even for our binge-watching brains.
Everyone will have their favorite here, of course. Whether kids' shows or baseball are in your wheelhouse, Netflix has you covered this week. Standup comedy or an adaptation of Shakespeare, it's all here. Oh, wait, you like science fiction? Do we ever have good news for you!
I assume that by now you've watched Adolescence. If not, what the heck are you waiting for? I mean, it's only one of the best shows Netflix has introduced in a very long time. You better get crackin', cuz Netflix has more coming up for you this week. Including a new season of one of my favorite shows ever. Well, more or less.

While the role of Hannah Montana is now known as the role that launched the career of superstar Miley Cyrus, in another reality, it would have been the big breakout role of Pretty Little Liars starLucy Hale. From the mid-2000s to the early 2010s, the names Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus were inescapable as they were a cultural phenomenon. After 17 years, Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert still remains the highest-grossing Super Bowl weekend opening and Hannah Montana: The Movie grossed $155 million worldwide in 2009. It is hard to imagine anyone else in the role of Hannah Montana, but it turns out the role could have been very different if she had looked like Katy Keene's star.

After her breakthrough role in Pretty Little Liars, Lucy Hale has recently starred in a string of films that offer her own brand of laughs or terror. She confidently struts down the rom-com path with wholesome installments of The Hating Game, ANice Girl Like You or Which Brings Me To You, where she delivers an offbeat intensity around sex and relationships that is awkwardly relatable. On the other hand, her roles in the horror genre, including Truth or Dare or Fantasy Island, take us back to the constant fear and paranoia of being stalked by "A," just in a more mature setting. In 2025, it is about time that these two worlds collided, giving us the ultimate Hale production: F Marry Kill.

NCIS: Origins subtly recast two original characters for its Gibbs prequel series. The franchise announced the NCIS spinoff in early 2024, exploring the backstory of central NCIS character Leroy Jethro Gibbs as he started on NCIS in 1991. As the Monday, October 14, premiere date for the series looms, more details shed light on the series. It has been clear that the series recast Gibbs' character with The Hating Game's Austin Stowell, and it's also known that Kyle Schmid is stepping into the role of Gibbs' former partner and mentor, Mike Franks.
Additionally, the series will beckon new characters into the shared NCIS universe, like Mariel Molino's Special Agent Lala Dominguez or Caleb Martin Foote's Special Agent Benjamin "Randy" Randolf, tasked with showing Stowell's young Gibbs the ropes. Still, while new characters will be essential to building out Gibbs' story in NCIS: Origins, all eyes will be on existing characters as...

The cast of NCIS: Origins is in an exciting position to make NCIS history. The stars of the Leroy Jethro Gibbs prequel series will be the first actors cast in an NCIS spinoff positioned in the past. Mark Harmon played Jethro Gibbs in the original series, but Austin Stowell will take over the character in NCIS: Origins' 1991 setting. Instead, Harmon will return to narrate the prequel story and is also part of the production as an executive producer with his son, Sean Harmon. Aside from Gibbs, NCIS: Origins story will bring back other familiar characters with new faces.
NCIS: Origins is the fifth spinoff in the NCIS franchise, but it is, in many ways, the first of its kind. It's the first offshoot to expand on the story of an original NCIS character. The series will delve into the relationship between Gibbs and Special Agent Mike Franks, played by Muse Watson in the original show.

The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable director M. Night Shyamalan's latest movie, Trap, arrives in theaters today, and the review embargo has only just lifted.
This isn't usually a great sign, and sure enough, the serial killer flick starring Josh Hartnett is currently sitting at 44% on Rotten Tomatoes with 39 verdicts added.
Despite the "rotten" score, quite a few critics have been defending the movie on social media, although most seem to agree that - like a lot of Shyamalan films - the plot starts to get far too convoluted and preposterous in the final act.
Still, Hartnett is said to give a great performance, and it sounds like Trap is an effective enough cat-and-mouse thriller for the majority of its run-time.
Worth catching on the big screen or waiting for streaming? Have a read through some of the reactions/reviews below, and let us know in the comments section.

Warner Bros. has released a new trailer for M. Night Shyamalan's latest high-concept thriller, Trap, which stars Josh Hartnett as a serial killer cornered by the cops while attending a concert with his daughter.
All the brief synopsis tells us is that "a father and teen daughter attend a pop concert, where they realize they’re at the center of a dark and sinister event," but thanks to the first teaser, we already know there's a lot more to the premise.
Noticing a large police presence in and around the venue, Hartnett's Cooper persuades a vendor to tell him what's going on, and finds out that the cops have been tipped off that a notorious serial killer known as The Butcher will be attending the concert.
Cooper then goes to the bathroom to check his home security system, and we see that he has a man tied up in a chair screaming for help.

Mark Harmon's physical appearance in NCIS: Origins is crucial to establishing the show's premise and attracting viewers to check it out. CBS can get creative with staging Harmon's cameo, potentially through his character writing a book about his time with the agency. NCIS: Origins will premiere as part of CBS' 2024-2025 TV schedule, debuting Austin Stowell as the new version of young Gibbs.
Leroy Jethro Gibbs' prequel series, NCIS: Origins, has its cast already locked in but is still missing one more character who could spell the show's success. For years, CBS has been finding ways to further take advantage of the police procedural's popularity by launching shows that focus on satellite offices of the agency. That said, NCIS' new expansion show will tackle Gibbs' early years with the organization, tracking his arc until he becomes the Major Case Response Team's (McRt) leader as first seen in its...

We have seen many rom-com queens stroll on and off the screen, but Lucy Hale is one that has silently slipped between our fingers and deserves more recognition. In 2023, Hale brought depth and complexity to a cynical yet free-spirited character in Which Brings Me To You. Stepping into the role of Jane, a wedding attendee who has been disappointed by troubled men just one too many times, Hale's mature performance is a far-cry from when we first fell in love with her in Pretty Little Liars. But 2023 is not the first time Hale successfully embodied the main role in a modern young adult romance. In 2021's The Hating Game, Hale played a very different YA main character, as a people-pleaser who despises one singular person but inevitably falls in love with them.

“Sound of Metal” star Olivia Cooke, soon to be returning to “House of the Dragon” for its second season, and BAFTA winner Jamie Bell, recently seen in “All of Us Strangers,” are set to star in “Takes One to Know One.” The film is billed as an “unconventional and contemporary take on romance.”
The feature comes from Italian director Nathalie Biancheri, working from a 2022 Black List screenplay by WGA-nominated writer Brooke Baker. Production is due to commence in Italy later this year, with Cornerstone handling international sales and distribution and and launching sales at Cannes and co-repping the U.S. with CAA Media Finance.
“Takes One to Know One” follows Eleanor (Cooke) and Lucas (Bell). When the two meet in Rome, their chemistry is electric. NCIS: Origins recasts Sean Harmon from the main show, raising questions about why he just won't reprise his NCIS role. Austin Stowell has been confirmed to play young Gibbs, and there are several possible reasons for this, including Sean Harmon's schedule hindering him from committing to a network procedural. Regardless, Sean Harmon is still involved in NCIS: Origins, co-executive producing the show with Mark Harmon.
The upcoming NCIS prequel series, NCIS: Origins, has recast Sean Harmon to play young Leroy Jethro Gibbs despite brilliantly playing the character in the main show. CBS' new expansion show will tackle Gibbs' early years with the organization, tracking his arc until he is awarded his team, as seen in the series' debut year. Specific details about the project are still being kept under wraps, but it is expected to premiere during the 2024-2025 TV season on CBS. Austin Stowell's casting as young Gibbs in NCIS: Origins is a strong choice due to his authoritative roles in past TV series and movies. Stowell's performance in A Friend of the Family showcases his ability to embody a government agent, setting him up for success in NCIS: Origins. Like Mark Harmon, Stowell's varied career experiences prior to NCIS: Origins make him a fitting choice for the iconic role of Gibbs.
The announcement of an NCIS prequel, NCIS: Origins, was exciting enough, but now the new series has revealed who will play the younger Leory Jethro Gibbs, and this casting is improved by the actor's previous action series credits. Also starring Nat Wolff, Which Brings Me to You plays out almost entirely in real-time, a day in the life of two millennials who have been around the block when it comes to failed relationships. Love hurts. Love is kind. Love is (insert Paul's epistles here). In a new film titled Which Brings Me to You, love is certainly complicated. It's a tale led by two young Hollywood talents, the striking Lucy Hale and the devilishly charismatic Nat Wolff. They recently opened up to MovieWeb about their love for music, the layered characters they play in this latest feature, and award-winning Greek filmmaker Yorgos Lathimos.
Yes, it's a wide-ranging interview just in time for the release of their new rom-com, though some could argue it's more of a dramedy. There's a sort of sultry romance here between their characters, Will and Jane, and you might just find yourself relating to a variety of stories they tell each other after a chance meeting at a friend's East Coast wedding. Playing out in real-time, the new movie from director Peter Hutchings (The Hating Game) is out now.

Which Brings Me to You is a dialogue-heavy rom-com set in New York that tries to distinguish itself from other films in the genre. Lucy Hale and Nat Wolff give it their all, but their characters' checkered pasts and the supporting personas introduced in the film may not be enough to make it stand out. The film mixes emotional drama with comedic moments, but the film leaves viewers wanting more of a climactic explosion in the story.

Lucy Hale and Nat Wolff make a gorgeous pair in the witty modern rom-com, Which Brings Me to You, which is in theaters Jan. 19, 2024, from Decal. The full synopsis for the new film reads as follows:
"Two romantic messes. One boring wedding. One heated embrace in a quiet coatroom. This is not exactly the recipe for true love. Will and Jane’s encounter at a friend’s wedding isn’t really the beginning of anything with any weight to it; even they know that. When they manage to pull back, it occurs to them that they might start this whole thing over properly. They might try getting to know one another first.

"You run out on every guy you've ever been with!" Decal Releasing has unveiled the trailer for a romantic comedy called Which Brings Me To You, arriving in theaters in January 2024 next month. It's from the same filmmaker who previously made the romcoms Then Came You and The Hating Game, and this one will probably be just like those two. Lucy Hale and Nat Wolff star in this hilarious tale of love and disaster. Two romantic burnouts meet at a wedding and almost hook up in the coatroom before putting the brakes on. They agree to exchange candid confessions about their pasts on the off chance that this might be the real thing. "Trading candid confessions of messy histories and heartbreak" - revisiting their own "past lives" on screen. The film's supporting cast includes John Gallagher Jr., Ward Horton, Genevieve Angelson, Alexander Hodge, Britne Oldford, Marceline Hugot, and Laura Kai Chen.
