For those continuing to feel a hole in their heart since the landmark animated fantasy series Avatar: The Last Airbender concluded in 2008, Netflix's long-running series The Dragon Prince is the perfect substitute. Debuting its seventh season on December 19, 2024, the parallels between the two popular animated TV shows extend beyond the story to include crossover cast members like Jack De Sena.
Furthermore, The Dragon Prince overtly references Avatar: The Last Airbender with a playfully amusing self-awareness that pays homage to Ang and his lovable sidekicks. While The Dragon Prince may never reach the all-time superior status of the #7 ranked TV show on IMDb's Top 250, Avatar: The Last Airbender fans will get the same enthralling jolt from The...

Many great cartoons place emphasis on the values of friendship and teamwork. Sometimes, however, these bonds extend even further into something more familial. Of course, many unrelated groups have found family dynamics, such as the characters from Teen Titans or Avatar: The Last Airbender, but siblings of any variety are an entirely different ballpark.
Family is often a point of tension, from difficult relationships to the most loving of siblings. Despite this, some siblings have an unbreakable bond because it is built upon a foundation of friendship. Whether it's just two or multiple siblings against the world, the best ones shown in cartoons are those whose love for each other is palpable.

The following contains spoilers for The Dragon Prince Season 7, now streaming on Netflix.
Netflix's The Dragon Prince has reached another thrilling climax in Season 7, with the assembled heroes taking on the magical villain Aaravos for the fate of Xadia. Divided after the fall of Katolis in Season 6, King Ezran rallied his kingdom and allies to confront Aaravos and his companion Claudia, as Aaravos opened a Moon Nexus unleashing the vicious undead. Warning! This post contains spoilers for The Dragon Prince.
Netflix's animated fantasy show The Dragon Prince has just concluded with season 7—here's every season of the show ranked worst to best. The Dragon Prince is arguably one of Netflix's most underrated shows. Incredibly, the show has a 100% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, indicating how brilliant it is. Indeed, with its fantasy elements, The Dragon Prince is the perfect show for fans of The Lord of the Rings, even if it is not nearly as prominent as many other popular fantasy shows, given it captured many of the same themes and conventions of the fantasy genre.
The show focuses primarily on Ezra and Callum, two princes of the human kingdom of Katolis, and Rayla, a Moonshadow Elf from the magical realm of Xadia. For generations, the human world and magical world have been at war with each other, yet when Rayla,...

There have been a lot of rumors circulating around the internet concerning the fate of Netflix’s The Dragon Prince, mostly because the streaming platform hasn’t made any official announcements yet. So, let me simplify this for you. The seventh season wasn’t the final conclusion. [Spoiler Alert] It only marked the end of the second arc of the story, with Archmage Aaravos’ death. But as the Celestial Elves had pointed out, the Fallen Star couldn’t be killed as he was destined to be born again. He will return to Xadia in seven years when his stars will once again align with the world. Now, the showmakers had originally planned to conclude the series in 10 seasons, where seasons 8, 9, and 10 would cover the third and final arc of the story. If you have finished watching season 7, then you can speculate that these three seasons will center around how humans and elves...

The criminally underrated Netflix original, The Dragon Prince, has been airing since 2018. Though it hasn't reached the heights of fantasy classics like Avatar: The Last Airbender, it deserves a bigger following. The Dragon Prince chronicles the story of the two young princes, Callum and Ezran, and the Moonshadow Elf Rayla as they attempt to bring peace to the warring nations of Xadia. When the trio comes into possession of the dragon egg that will hatch and become the titular dragon prince, they band together and set off on an epic quest to save the world.
The Dragon Prince isn't similar to Dungeons & Dragons because they both use dragons, but because of the scale and intricacies of their worlds. D&d fans will appreciate the different cultures and magics within The Dragon Prince and the serialized nature of the story. Although The Dragon Prince is ending with season 7, it's not too late...

Christmas is just a few days away, which means that 2024's movie season is ending. We still have some great films to watch in theaters as Mufasa gives us the history of the titular Lion King and his brother Scar. If you're looking for another option for the family, Sonic and his friends battle against the John Wick of Hedgehogs, and The Dragon Prince has its epic finale on Netflix. Here is everything you need to watch this weekend.

Given Netflix’s strange cancellation tendencies, it is extremely rare to find a series in the streaming service’s original animation directory that has successfully completed its journey, let alone gone through seven seasons in the span of six years like The Dragon Prince, created by Aaron Ehasz and Justin Richmond, did. Right from the detailed world-building to its entertaining blend of heart, humor, and action, its deft characterization, and the way it incorporates serious themes and dark undertones in a seemingly light-hearted narrative, there is a lot to like when it comes to the animated series—and it kept its momentum through the first six seasons. Regarding the recently released seventh season, which will conclude the second major arc of the series, my opinion is a bit mixed. Not really sure whether the writing team had multiple different ideas in mind or whether it has to do with Netflix...

The Dragon Prince season 7’s ending doesn’t really deal with the threat but only postpones it for seven years so that our heroes get enough time to prepare to go up against Archmage Aaravos, the most vicious Startouch Elf ever born. [Spoiler Alert] In the previous season, Callum and Rayla, the fabled mage and the warrior, made a trip to Starscraper in the far north looking for a means to destroy Aaravos’ magical prison, a shiny Pearl. Unfortunately, the Celestial Elves revealed that the Great Ones are immortal beings of the heavens who cannot be destroyed. One could destroy the mortal vessel of a Startouch Elf, but they would return to Xadia again when their stars align with the world, giving them a new life. This was the only reason why the archdragons, elder elves, and humans didn’t kill Aaravos. Instead, locked him inside a hidden prison for eternity. But...

The final season of The Dragon Prince will pick up in the aftermath of Season 6, and the stakes have never been higher. The penultimate season ushered in major changes. In the beginning, Aaravos’s (Erik Dellums) prison has been recovered, Viren (Jason Simpson) is done with dark magic, the Sunfire Elves are on the brink of war, and the dragon queen, Zubeia (Nicole Oliver), is injured and missing, giving the story plenty to cover. Still, the season leaves Callum (Jack De Sena), Rayla (Paula Burrows), Ezran (Sasha Rojen), and the rest in even more danger.

Since first debuting in 2018, The Dragon Prince has continued to win over critics and audiences with its impressive world-building and rich storytelling across the magical continent of Xadia. The series began with two royal half-brothers, Callum and Ezran, teaming up with Rayla, a Moonshadow Elf assassin, to safely deliver a dragon egg back to its mother. Since then, we’ve watched our favorite characters head to war, explore countless new locations and cultures, fall in love, and embrace their destinies to ultimately restore peace between humans and magical creatures in Xadia. It’s been a journey of epic proportions so far, and now it’s time to see how the show’s second saga, “Mystery of Aaravos,” will reach its end.

Now, we need to prepare ourselves for the journey’s end and what will become of Xadia after one last stand against the continent’s most fearsome threat yet. Read on to learn everything we know so far about Season 7 of The Dragon Prince.

As the year comes to an end, one of Netflix’s most beloved and pioneering animated ventures, The Dragon Prince, returns to conclude the second arc of its overarching storytelling journey with the seventh season of the series. Turns out, the resounding success of the sixth season, released earlier this year, has given makers the confidence to add a third arc, consisting of three more seasons, which means, contrary to the initial assumptions, the seventh season is not going to be the final chapter of The Dragon Prince after all. Following the tradition of the primal source of magic being the theme of each season, the seventh one is going to be based on the final fount—dark magic. Beyond this, we can only guess what thematic signifier the final three seasons will use. However, at this stage of the narrative as a whole, there are crucial plot points from...

Warning! This post contains minor spoilers for The Dragon Prince.
Netflix's underrated fantasy show The Dragon Prince is sadly concluding on December 19th, coming to an end with its seventh and final season after 6 absolutely brilliant seasons over the last six years. The Dragon Prince premiered on August 14th, 2018, and introduced main characters Ezran, Callum, Rayla, and Claudia, who remain some of The Dragon Prince's best characters. At first, it seemed as though Rayla, a Moonshadow Elf—one of the many elf races in The Dragon Prince—was going to be a major antagonist in the show, as she was after Callum and Ezran's father, King Harrow.
The dynamics of the show ended up being much more complicated than that, however, particularly when Ezran, Callum, and Rayla end up on a mission together, trying to get the last dragon egg known to exist back to its mother. That original...

Netflix's The Dragon Prince is a fantasy series that's been quietly building a dedicated following, and it's a perfect watch for fans of The Lord of the Rings. Created by Aaron Ehasz and Justin Richmond, the show follows a group of young heroes as they navigate a world filled with magic, dragons, and ancient conflicts. Its final season is coming on December 19, closely following The Dragon Prince's season 6 release date.
While it may not be receiving the same level of mainstream attention as other popular fantasy TV shows of the past decade, The Dragon Prince has earned praise for its intricate world-building, engaging characters, and stunning animation. The series' popularity is warranted, as it's one of the best animated fantasy shows currently airing. It's well worth checking out, especially for those who love complex worlds like Middle-earth.

Making live-action adaptations of beloved animated content can be risky, especially within the fantasy genre. Most often, there's a reason that the stories were told through animation in the first place. Thanks to the expansive animation techniques that make visuals possible that would be difficult to create in real life, there are many obstacles that live-action iterations of animated fantasy TV shows face. However, this doesn't mean that these projects shouldn't happen, as they can be a great way to bring renewed interest and enthusiasm back to an underrated piece of television.
While the best animated fantasy movies are widely discussed, there are many fantastic additions to the magical side of animation on television. Famous additions to the genre, like Avatar: The Last Airbender or Adventure Time, are well known even by audiences who don't traditionally seek out animation. The following contains spoilers for The Dragon Prince Season 6, available to stream on Netflix now.
Six seasons in and The Dragon Prince remains one of Netflix's consistently most popular original animated series, with significant audience spikes whenever a new season drops. The sixth season is no different, topping the streaming charts for young viewers and breaking into Netflix's coveted Top Ten overall upon its debut this past July, a position it has held for several weeks. In the new season, the ancient Startouch Elf Aaravos prepares to reemerge for a renewed bid to conquer the fantasy world of Xadia thanks to Claudia's dark magic, with the heroic Rayla and Callum reunited with Rayla's adoptive father Runaan ahead of the climactic battle. And though initially renewed to run through just seven seasons, The Dragon Prince creators have plans for additional seasons if fan support continues to grow.

The sixth season of The Dragon Prince has turned out to be the animated series’ darkest, most reflective chapter so far. And in a number of ways, The Dragon Prince season 6’s ending has set the stage for the final arc of the overarching saga. The harrowing fate of Katolis will surely disrupt the existing hard-earned alliance among humans and the rest of Xadia’s denizens; Aaravos’ return will complicate things further; and Ezran and his friends are going to have the toughest time finding a way to restore peace amidst this mess. At the end, it will boil down to the question of legacies—whether the new generation can guide the world down a better path despite experiencing the worst, or are they doomed to repeat the cycle of violence by following in the footsteps of their parents? Callum, Rayla, Soren, Claudia, and Ezran—all the major characters are...

In The Dragon Prince, the godly Startouch elf, Aaravos, has played the role of overarching antagonist over the course of six seasons so far, manipulating events from behind the scenes like a puppet master, corrupting the minds of susceptible mages to make them do his bidding, and thereby creating prolonged animosity between humans and other magical species like elves and dragons. Despite remaining imprisoned, Aaravos managed to easily target his prey—Lord Viren, Pharos, or Claudia—and use them to get himself freed.
In the previous season of The Dragon Prince, Callum and his friends had learned just how dangerous Aaravos is, as during his stay in Xadia, he was able to turn humans, elves, and dragons against each other by multiple times enacting his cruel, malevolent schemes—throwing the world into utter chaos as a result. Callum himself experienced a glimpse of the legendary archmage’s powers while being possessed by him,...

History is a narrative forged upon strength, which inadvertently gives birth to the perpetual cycle of violence, enmity, and hatred. To break the cycle, the foundation of history needs to be moulded with more sympathetic traits, with love—at least that’s the revelation which King Harrow had during his final moments, which he had shared with his stepson Prince Callum in a letter addressed to him. The Dragon Prince has dissected this realization through a number of plotpoints, story arcs, and character interactions, but nowhere has the impact felt as strong as it did in the recently released sixth and penultimate season of the acclaimed animated series. Picking up directly from the ending of the previous season, the latest chapter of The Dragon Prince: Mystery of Aaravos follows Callum and Rayla trying to find a way to stop the malevolent Startouch elf Aaravos from freeing himself in order to avert a world-ending crisis,...

When Netflix broke into original animated content, one of their most promising shows was The Dragon Prince. Created by Aaron Ehasz and Justin Richmond, it focuses on the land of Xadia, divided between the elves and dragons of the East, who can connect with primal magic, and the human kingdoms of the West, who take magic from other creatures through Dark Magic. As tensions rise and war brews, two human princes and an elven assassin attempt to reunite the dragon queen with her missing child while dark forces manipulate things from the shadows.

The Dragon Prince is an animated Netflix series set in Xadia a world rich with magic and diverse characters. The characters in The Dragon Prince are often defined by their relationship to the primal sources of magic. The Dragon Prince contains the same kind of world-building and moral lessons as The Lord of the Rings.
The Lord of the Rings essentially kickstarted the modern fantasy genre, inspiring many iconic writers to create their own fantasy series that could be considered spiritual successors to Tolkien's works. Then came the age of television and movies, when these beloved books could be showcased in all their glory to fans on a global scale. Ever since then, other shows and movies have tried to replicate this formula, crafting their own fantasy worlds, either from books or fresh ideas, in an attempt to satisfy their audience's craving for an epic fantasy series with deep world-building.

The Dragon Prince has a wide variety of villains with complex motivations that offer a great deal of variety in terms of villain archetype and plot significance. While some villains in the show are downright despicable in their actions, others are more nuanced in their villainy.
From evil schemes that dabble in court intrigue to the outright murder of innocents, there's a lot to be said about who should be considered the most villainous in the series. Something about complex antagonists with motives and goals that seem justifiable on the surface level can be thrilling to watch, even if the ends rarely justify the means.

Back when it first premiered in 2018, The Dragon Prince proved to be a surprise hit for Netflix. The fantasy animated series has since been picked up for five seasons, each serving to expand both the show's lore and fandom. The latest installment dropped not too long ago in July, having been given a surprise early release on Netflix. The quest for peace in Xadia continues, and right now it seems temporary. The show adopted the title The Dragon Prince: Mystery of Aaravos starting with Season 4, and there has been a mounting feeling of unease amongst the heroes since then. There has been a growing tension not only amongst the humans, elves, and dragons but within the team of our heroic youngsters as well. Season 6 will walk along the same storyline, however, this time, the stakes are much higher. In anticipation of all the exciting things that are likely to occur...
