It's a very authentic and Mexican story (thank God is not another cheap Mexican Soap Opera). With a great production, the story stands out. Strong characters in an actual Mexican context, it really worth it to watch it!

This series gives you an inside look of what it is like to be living in Mexico. Not just about the prevalence of corruption, but about homosexuality, social/economic classes, reputation and narcos.
While the country has made the transition smoothly into modern times in many things, traditional conservative values still have a strong hold on many of its people today and the series does a good job of portraying that.
Homosexuality can still be very taboo for many even though mainstream media is open and accepting about it. The gap between the rich and the poor is pretty wide and these two opposing classes do avoid and hardly interact with each other. Not to say there isn't exceptions but what you see in this series does still happen everyday and is more common than what others think. I know because I am Mexican. I may have been born and raised stateside but i have plenty of family still living in Mexico, have visited and spent many summers there to know these things are very much real.
The series has a great production behind it and wonderful cinematography. Loved the scenery that was shot. There may be some predictable story lines but the show is still very good. it leaves you wanting more. Hurry up Season 2!

I watched it one sitting and it had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. It was even more gripping than season 1 I can't wait for season 3.
The series is so well crafted. The characters are very well created. Definitely they need to make the 2nd season.

I really loved watching this first season. Here is hoping to see Season 2. This series is about a Mexican tequila empire and the family that oversees the business. Very well done and made so that anyone anywhere can make sense of the story. Full of murder, deceit, corruption, betrayal, as well as family, love and partnerships.

Although, the general plot is threshed and has been told a thousand times before, the merit of Monarch is in its agile and intelligible narrative, the clear definition of complex characters and great suspense management. The performances are impeccable, at a high level. You will devour the series with a single blow. Excellent job

In many ways your typical TeleNovela from Mexico.
Two seasons, 18 episodes in total.
A family business where the siblings feud, collude and essentially fight for control of their Hotel and Tequila biz.
A bit slow at times, but there's plenty of action and many twists and turns. The final episode of Series One is a showstopper.
Dubbed in English, so no need for subs unless you need them. Give Monarca a go, it's not bad. 7/10.

Monarca is a very good show. The big question is will it continue. Netflix has an extremely high cancellation rate.
This show is everything the new Dynasty could have been.
The core family has secrets, and there are twists, turns, suspense, and it's amazingly entertaining while relying on good writing. The actors have plenty of material to shine.
This is a show where everyone from the producers, crew, and cast are just spot on. The performances were right on cue.
If you don't speak Spanish, subtitles are available. With the theatrical cinematography, it will be like seeing a foreign movie.
The cast is too large to mention everyone, but this show is perfectly cast. Different generations of actors seem like a real family.

The story is serviceable but the acting is stiff to very poor. The dialogue very unnatural and humorless - I know it's a drama but does it hurt to slip a bit of joy here and there. Overall a poor attempt
Just finished watching Season 1 of "Monarca"and i must say that it has been outstanding in every sense of the word,be it the direction, acting, screenplay, dialogues, editing and/or production values .Simply brilliant !
Hope the second season is as good as the first one!

I love watching spanish series, since I'm learning spanish at this time. I discovered this series just a week ago. I binge watched it. The story is like narcos but with tecila. Nice acting by the most of the crew. It's has nice rythm and interesting plot. You can really give it a try.

Due to the high ratings I gave this a shot. Foreign Netflix originals are often interesting. This one didn't meet my expectations. And I don't understand the high ratings. Direction and editing of the episodes is bad. The tempo is way to high and the whole 'social media' episodes were terrible and had nothing to do with what was actually happening. Acting isn't very well to. There are a few good acting ones, but most of them are B or C actors who usually appear in soap series. And thats what this series feels like. A soap series, not well made and acted.

... truly unfortunate this series-ended-was-cancelled after only-two-seasons... of all productions from Mexico, Monarca is undoubtedly one of the better ones... (to date 80% of IMDb reviewers giving it a rating of 8 or higher)
... well written-cast-acted-produced, it deserved a better fate... one that at least allowed for an adequate resolution of the storyline, rather than to just leave all viewers hanging with an unresolved ending.

Have been waiting for season 2 for a while now. And finally it's here!
I completely swallowed every episode in a row. There is nothing I don't like about this series.
The actors, the story, the characters......... cant stop watching! Hoping for season 3 now.

A Gripping Mexican Web Series about family feud over taking control of the tequila business empire. Excellent art of storytelling with crisp editing. A must see for those who haven't watched. Waiting for Season 2
This was worth the time spent watching it. The twists & turns in the plot were interesting. Some of it was a little off like the storylines about the younger Carranza kids were weak. Still good to watch. Similar to Succession on HBO.
A tv show that has all the straight up family drama you could ask for. The storylines are just short of ridiculous and keep the pace of this show at full steam ahead. Well developed characters and captivating storylines. Decent acting and good cinematography.

I enjoy'd the show. Would of been improved by removing the sometimes ridiculous decision making of the main characters, though this seems part and parcel of modern tv shows.
Having said the above I will definately be watching a second season if there is one.

As intriguing and original season 1 was , season 2 is equally shoddy and choppy. No plot and just carrying on with some random stuff like change the CEO, send Pablo to jail, bring dementia to Mom. I have watched 4 episodes and there is nothing to add to first season. Just trying to capitalize the first season.
