9-1-1's latest episode made fans believe Eddie Diaz (Ryan Guzman) had packed his belongings in a U-Haul and bid Los Angeles farewell – permanently. While the reason for his departure was made clear in Episode 10 of Season 8, "Voices," his return remains murky. Some have suggested Eddie will star in the new spin-off, although the latest city announced as its setting conflicts with Eddie’s most recent destination. Perhaps a migration is in the cards.
Holding the answers is showrunner Tim Minear, who recently spoke about Eddie’s fate on 9-1-1 moving forward. However, with only two episodes left in Season 8, chances are slim of Eddie’s return by the finale. Whether he appears in the latest spin-off in the 9-1-1 universe, it’s worth wondering why Eddie left Los Angeles and whether he’ll return to the 118 again.

9-1-1 Season 8, Episode 10, "Voices," ended with Buck (Oliver Stark) mourning the departure of his best buddy, Eddie (Ryan Guzman). However, the concluding chapter of the two-part mid-season premiere could've been much worse for him, had he also lost his sister Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt). Thank heavens, Maddie survived being captured by the unhinged detective Amber Braeburn (Abigail Spencer) because one can only imagine how Buck would have handled the gravity of such a tragedy. One thing not left to the imagination, though, is how Buck will cope with Eddie's departure, because he'll turn to a habit fans are well familiar with.

The following contains spoilers from 9-1-1 Season 8, Episode 10, "Voices," which debuted Thursday, March 13 on ABC.
In hindsight, 9-1-1 naming its missing child detective "Amber" should've been indicative that Maddie Buckley's kidnapping would've been full of cliché. Continuing off the previous episode's cliffhanger ending, Season 8, Episode 10 of 9-1-1 gets straight to the source of the problem. Amber Braeburn (portrayed by Abigail Spencer) has tied Maddie up in her basement for a mean death. In the meantime, Maddie discovers why Amber has been living a double life, and Chimney gets to the bottom of Maddie's disappearance.
"Voices" plays similarly to another Maddie kidnapping episode, Season 2, Episode 13, "Fight of Flight." It's déjà vu for Maddie and the gang, except this time, the rescuers don't have the slightest idea who is behind the crime, and Maddie's mental health history gives Amber a convenient cover story. The problematic story doesn't pay off the fantastic build-up,...

9-1-1 has once again delivered on another exhilarating two-parter, one with a shocking twist that kept viewers on the edge right until the end credits rolled. The Season 8 mid-season premiere wrapped up with last night's episode "Voices," which for a tense moment had fans believing the show had killed off Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt). If her past abduction wasn't proof enough of her resilience, the latest ordeal dashed every doubt. Maddie's a fighter who not only survives her captor's den but does so against the slimmest of odds, fighting her way to freedom with a slit throat. Just like before, the latest trauma is bound to leave a lingering aftereffect, but thankfully, she has her brother Buck (Oliver Stark) and the rest of her family to lean on. And according to Hewitt, fans can expect a lighter, sibling-focused episode ahead.

This article contains spoilers for 9-1-1 season 8, episode 10, "Voices."
9-1-1 star Ryan Guzman seemingly confirms that Eddie Diaz will be back in the 118. 9-1-1 season 8, episode 10, "Voices," largely deals with the fallout from Maddie's abduction at the hands of a twisted killer. But it also ends with an emotional farewell between Eddie (Guzman) and Buck (Oliver Stark), with Guzman's character moving to Texas to reunite with his son Christopher (Gavin McHugh).
In a post-episode interview with TheWrap, Guzman seemingly confirms that Eddie's time in Texas is temporary. At one point during the interview, he says: “We will be in Texas for a bit. The end goal is to get Eddie back to the 118, but we’ll see what happens.” The actor leaves just enough doubt in his response. However, when asked directly, Guzman doesn't deny that Eddie will try to convince Christopher to return to Los Angeles.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 10 “Voices.”] The moment Abigail Spencer was revealed to be playing a missing persons detective on 9-1-1, we had a feeling there was more to the character than meets the eye. Such was the case: The first of the two-parter ended with her kidnapping Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt). The thriller concluded with Episode 10, in which Amber held Maddie in her basement — she had multiple personalities, and it was Peter who called 9-1-1 as John and whom the dispatcher had spoken to. When Maddie’s husband Chimney (Kenneth Choi) went to Amber’s to talk to her about the investigation, it was just as Athena (Angela Bassett) realized who was really responsible for a string of kidnappings and murders. Maddie, with her throat slashed, was the one to save Chimney by hitting Amber over the head. Then, Athena saved Chimney while he was busy ...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 10 “Voices.”] Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) knows how to fight. 9-1-1 has shown us that time and time again. (“Fight or Flight”? Still the most traumatic episode ever.) Maddie spends most of this episode held captive in a basement by Detective Amber Braeburn (Abigail Spencer), who had once been a kidnap victim herself. But she’s the one who’s been responsible for the string of kidnappings and killings; Maddie hadn’t talked “John” through dying by suicide but rather Amber had been there and pulled the trigger on her patsy in the previous episode. Maddie fights for her life, even after Amber slashes her throat, and she’s the one to save her husband Chimney (Kenneth Choi) when he shows up to talk to Amber, thinking she’s just the detective in charge of the case. But she just knocks Amber out, and it’s Athena (Angela Bassett) ...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoiler for 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 10 “Voices.”] The 118 just said goodbye to one of its own. While most of the latest 9-1-1 episode is centered around finding Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt), who’d been kidnapped by a serial killer, it also ends with, once she’s been found and is recovering in the hospital, Buck (Oliver Stark) saying goodbye to his best friend Eddie (Ryan Guzman) as he leaves for Texas. The move has been in the works since the midseason finale, during which Eddie revealed he’d started looking at houses in Texas to be closer to his son; Christopher (Gavin McHugh) moved in with Eddie’s parents after catching his father with the doppelgänger of his late mother. In the midseason premiere, Buck first sabotaged Eddie’s attempts to find a renter for his house before ultimately subletting it (and giving up his loft). He knew that Eddie was ultimately going ...

9-1-1 has gone to some dark places over the course of its eight-season run, but it appears the show is about to dive deeper into even darker territory as teased by a new sneak peek for the next episode. Season 8, Episode 10, "Voices" will cap off the mid-season two-part premiere and at the center of it is Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt), who has yet again found herself a victim of abduction at the hands of the most unlikely suspect. Episode 9, "Sob Stories", sets up the horror story beginning with the dispatcher receiving a distress call from a serial killer initially suspected to be Richard Bullock. However, in an unexpected twist, it turns out the caller is Detective Amber Brayburn (Abigail Spencer) who kidnaps Maddie at the end of the episode. The synopsis for "Voices" reads:...

As more Star Wars continue to come out, filmmakers will continue to carefully add more dimensions to the concept of the Force. Since the Force is at the center of all things Star Wars, the franchise needs to do this. In 2011, one of...

Actor Djimon Hounsou recently spoke with CNNs Larry Madowo for African Voices: Changemakers about his non-profit, the Djimon Hounsou Foundation, which carries the mission of "strengthening connections among the African diaspora." In the interview, the two-time Oscar-nominated actor revealed that he struggles financially due to systemic racism in Hollywood.
Hailing from the West African country of Benin, Hounsou recalled in the CNN interview walking the beaches in Ouidah and seeing the "Door of No Return," a memorial to enslaved Africans who were taken from the port of Ouidah to the Americas. Hounsou and Madowo conducted the recent interview in Richmond, Virginia, a major entry point on the other end of the slave trade and the capital of the Confederacy during the American Civil War.

Out of My Mind is a powerful film exploration of disability, tenacity, and human potential. The Disney+ original, directed by Amber Sealey, is based on Sharon M. Draper’s novel and introduces spectators to a fascinating protagonist who experiences the world with extraordinary depth and intelligence despite her physical communication limitations.
The story focuses on Melody’s transformation. It begins when a forward-thinking PhD student, Dr. Katherine Post, lobbies for her inclusion in a mainstream sixth-grade classroom. The Force is a source of not only life, but also in the vast Star Wars galaxy. But one of the most iconic usages of its power is the Jedi ability to transcend life and death itself, preserving their consciousnesses and becoming Force Ghosts. But is there a way to accomplish this through usage of the dark side of the Force?
The dark side is a perversion of the light, and not an equal set of powers, it's simply an imitation of true oneness with the Force. One can tap into immense power through their rage and hatred by using the dark side, but it will always damage them in some way, often times decaying a dark-sider until they are decrepit. Despite wanting to use this power to live forever as a Jedi can through becoming a Force ghost, Sith can never achieve this in the same way but they absolutely have tried.

Texas country artist Joshua Ray Walker, known for songs like “Voices” and “Lot Lizard,” has launched a GoFundMe upon revealing that his 2023 cancer diagnosis had unexpectedly spread.
Walker told fans late last year that he’d been diagnosed with colon cancer; he subsequently underwent surgery in January before beginning chemotherapy. In a note shared on social media Tuesday, Sept. 10, Walker said that before he started chemo he was given a 90 percent chance of “having clear tests post treatment.” Those tests, however, revealed “multiple nodes of varying sizes” in both his lungs.

Dream Theater have detailed a new vinyl box set, Dream Theater Vol. 1, that houses their studio albums released during the 1990s. The 7-lp collection is set to drop on September 27th via Rhino.
The first of three planned box set releases, Vol. 1 charts the prog-metal legends’ most critically lauded decade, the ’90s, picking up after vocalist James Labrie joined the band in 1991.
Spread across seven discs, the box set includes: Images and Words (1992); Awake (1994); Falling Into Infinity (1997); and Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory (1999). They’re housed in a slipcase featuring new artwork from the band’s longtime collaborator Hugh Syme.
The set is a boon for fans who’ve struggled to track down these albums on vinyl over the years, as some had gone out-of-print. Per Rhino’s press release, Vol. 2 and Vol. 3 will follow in 2025 and ostensibly collect the band’s output in chronological order,...

Across more than two decades as the parallel arm of the Sarajevo Film Festival, CineLink Industry Days has grown into the leading film and TV industry event in the Balkan region, an incubator of talent from Southeast Europe — and, increasingly, beyond — and a crucial stop for globetrotting industry executives looking to discover fresh cinematic voices.
The mid-summer event, which this year takes place Aug. 17 – 22, traditionally comes on the heels of the Locarno Film Festival and wraps in the run-up to Venice and Toronto, occupying a perhaps fitting slot in the calendar. “Not too big, but not small at all,” is how Maša Marković, now in her third year as the festival’s head of industry, characterizes it. As a result, Sarajevo “manages to create this sense of being the place to be.”

The Simpsons has done it again by killing off another character, this one after a 34-year run. Larry Dalrymple, also known as "Larry the Barfly," passed away in the latest episode of the series, and the decision has now been explained.
In the episode, Larry dies on his barstool in Moe's Tavern, the place that had served as his favorite spot for the past 34 years. Larry first debuted in a 1990 episode from the first season of The Simpsons, and while he's since been serving mostly as a background character, many fans were moved by his unexpected death. Per Variety, co-executive producer Tim Long apologized for the emotional episode, though he stressed that the whole point was to show that the lives of Larry, and even the "peripheral people" in our own real lives, have value.

Safe to assume the ongoing atrocities in Gaza will engender cinema, fiction and documentary alike, further into the future than we can imagine. Decades of aggression have yielded, in just this last year, the TIFF selection Alam and Berlinale winner No Other Land; if what absurd, horrific controversy the latter quickly engendered is any indication, the industry faces many moments of reckoning. It remains to be seen what, if any, attention comes from Lyd, a “sci-fi documentary” that examines the eponymous city––once Palestinian, now Israeli, and since 1948 a site of considerable exile and strife––from its imagined perspective. Ahead of an April 26 engagement that starts at New York’s Firehouse Cinema, we’re pleased to exclusively debut the trailer.

Liam Neeson seems content putting his Star Wars Jedi adventuring days behind him.
In a recent ScreenRant interview, the Phantom Menace actor revealed whether he'd consider coming back as Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn somehow, be it in live-action or cartoon form. Though he briefly returned as a Force Ghost in Obi-Wan Kenobi opposite co-star Ewan McGregor and "enjoyed very much being with Ewan and George Lucas on The Phantom Menace," Neeson felt it was time to move on from that character on the live-action side. "We shot that 26 years ago! Would I do it again? I don't think so," he said, adding that he's "too f***ing old, ya know? I can't see the situation, I really can't, you know?"

The 5th edition of Podes, the Portuguese podcast festival, took place on 18 November in Lisbon, Portugal. The event was focused on podcasters and podcasting, marking a shift from previous editions where the biggest sessions were podcast liveshows. As such, Podes offered capacity-building workshops and panel debates on growth, technology and the state of Portuguese podcasting in 2023, and invited all podcasters to attend a podcasting town hall meeting to openly discuss the state of affairs, what can be done in the future and what role should a podcasting festival have in a growing industry.
The festival ended with a live ceremony that celebrated Portuguese podcasts and the people who make them.
The awards process started in September, when a free registration was open for all podcasts. At the same time, open submission was available for the People’s choice award, which ran until 31 October. After registration was closed, shortlists were created for each category,...

Celebrating 35 years as New York City’s premiere destination for LGBTQ+ filmmakers, indie cinephiles and the industry who’s who alike, NewFest kicked off one week ago, Oct. 12, at Chelsea’s Sva Theatre with the New York premiere of screenwriter Dustin Lance Black’s latest biopic, “Rustin.”
The days that followed included New York premieres and special screenings for anticipated festival darlings like “Eileen” with Anne Hathaway and Thomasin McKenzie, “Nyad” with Annette Bening and Jodie Foster and the world premiere of “Beyond the Aggressives,” the documentary centerpiece and follow-up to 2005’s groundbreaking “The Aggressives.” And the days ahead promise even more – among them “May December” from director Todd Haynes and starring Julianne Moore and Natalie Portman, Cannes award winner “Monster” from Japanese filmmaker Hirokazu Kore-eda and the closing night feature presentation of Andrew Haigh’s “All of Us Strangers,” starring Andrew Scott, Paul Mescal, Claire Foy and Jamie Bell.

For the second September in a row, TikTok is pulling out all the stops to celebrate Latin Heritage Month. Among other initiatives, the video app has released a new Visionary Voices list that highlights several exemplary Latin creators.
As with previous Visionary Voices lists, TikTok has split its Latin Heritage Month VIPs into several categories. The honor roll includes small businesses like Pinole Blue, top creators like comedian Jesus Nalgas, and “industry disruptors” like Myke Towers. Though he’s best known for his music, Towers has emerged as a short-form innovator by uploading viral clips set to his songs.
The Visionary Voices initiative grew out of a dinner series launched by TikTok. One of those dinners brought Latin creators together during last year’s Heritage Month. Other Visionary Voices lists have tied into other month-long cultural happenings, such as Black History Month and Aapi Heritage Month.

If Halloween is indeed "gay Christmas," as it is lovingly called by many folks in the LGBTQ+ community, then My Animal makes for a solid teaser. Directed by Jacqueline Castel and written by Jae Matthews, both of whom are making their feature film debuts here, My Animal follows Heather (played by non-binary actor Bobbi Salvör Menuez) as she moves through her small northern town as an outcast, trying to keep her darkest secrets from coming to light. Tomboyish and desperate to play on her town's all-male hockey team, not only is Heather secretly queer, but she is also a werewolf (the product of a family curse).
Every full moon, her father — also a werewolf — and her overbearing alcoholic of a mother chain Heather to her bed as she completes her lycan transformation. Though it seems this is done to protect herself and others, it wouldn't be surprising if the main...
