Derivative and not at all funny. Has a sort of fly on the wall approach where most characters know they are being filmed and play up to the camera. But in other scenes we're supposed to believe that the characters are unaware of the cameras. It just distant work. I can see why people see a parallel to the office, but poor office derivatives are themselves passé and this one is exceptionally poor. It's a shame. Wales does have a lot to offer but this comedy won't do it any favours. I have to say more to be able to submit this review and the show doesn't merit more. So I'll just write nothing to fill in this space.
I suspected a tourist office would be just like this. I was in England when I watched it the first time. Now I live in Wales - it's spot on.
Having previously worked for the Welsh tourist board, I'm wondering if one of the writers did, too...! Funny performances from home-grown talent.
There are mockumantaries in the style of 'The Office' that are very good, most recently the wonder BBC comedy 'This Country', but you've got to do something different with the format and most importantly it has to actually be funny, this is neither funny nor original which is a shame because I like Sally Phillips.
I just discovered this series and watched the first two episodes of series 2. Some reviewers are comparing it to The Office, but it was cringey (which I didn't overly appreciate) and The Tourist Trap is not. I prefer The Tourist Trap. I thought some of the concepts were very clever and my husband and I both really enjoyed watching it (from Scotland). Especially liked the outdoor scenes and it's a double win for Wales because viewers are being encouraged to visit it.
