Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan remains a staple of the franchise over 40 years after its release. It showcased the true pinnacle of what a Star Trek film could be when given a chance to flex its muscles. It started a run of pretty successful films that would last until 2016. Not every film was as good as Wrath of Khan, though a few came close or nearly surpassed it.
Others have their own charm, even if they aren't the most loved films in the franchise. Still, even if you think a film or two has surpassed Wrath of Khan, what can't be denied is that Wrath of Khan established a proof of concept for how to succeed with Star Trek films. It was so important to the franchise and entertainment as a whole, that it's going into the Library of Congress's National Film Registry.

It's official: Tom Hardy, Helen Mirren, and Pierce Brosnan have officially signed on to star in the Paramount+ series previously titled The Associate. The series will be loosely based on Showtimes hit crime drama series Ray Donovan, which ran on air for seven seasons from 2013 to 2019.
After entering into final negotiations back in October, Variety has reported that Hardy, Mirren, and Brosnan have officially joined the Paramount+ series from Guy Ritchie and Ronan Bennett. The casting update was paired with a bit of news that may disappoint Ray Donovan fans, as the series has been reworked into a standalone project with no connections to the Liev Schreiber-led franchise. Guy Ritchie's next movie will no longer be hitting theaters in January 2025. Lionsgate has removed In the Grey, which reteams Ritchie with his The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare star Henry Cavill, from its 2025 release schedule.
According to Deadline, the reason Lionsgate has pulled In the Grey from its Jan. 17, 2025 release date is because the movie isn't finished. Sherlock Holmes, the iconic detective created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, has been reimagined countless times across literature, film, and TV. However, the next three upcoming Sherlock Holmes TV shows have one thing in common, setting them apart from other variations. One of the most popular modern adaptations featuring the character is BBC's Sherlock, a series which earned an 83% Popcornmeter. Starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman as Dr. John Watson, BBCs Sherlock had 4 seasons, which aired from 2010 to 2017, and despite its disappointing ending, there are no plans for a Sherlock season 5.

The many stories of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle see Sherlock come up against a variety of villains, but none so synonymous and terrifying as James Moriarty. It's clear from his first appearance in The Adventure of the Final Problem that Sherlock has met his match in Moriarty. Though the character would go on to be directly featured in only two stories, he's mentioned by Sherlock several times. However, Moriarty has become synonymous with the tales of Sherlock Holmes and is brought to life in many screen iterations of the narratives.

Prime Video’s ad-supported reach in the UK is 19 million viewers, Amazon has revealed for the first time.
At a UK Upfront event in London this evening attended by the likes of Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Idris Elba, the company talked up its streaming biz, saying its customer base is equivalent to more than a third of British adults.
In a bid to persuade advertisers their pounds and dollars are being well spent, Amazon said 52% of UK Prime Video viewers did not watch any paid-for TV, and that among these 36% spent more in the Amazon.co.uk store than the average spend of Amazon customers.
“Last year, we celebrated the news that we were bringing ads to Prime Video’s premium entertainment content in the UK,” said Phil Christer, Managing Director, Amazon Ads UK. “Now we are here to show you what that means in practice.

A real-life private investigator settles the debate regarding whether Sherlock Holmes or Benoit Blanc of the Knives Out franchise is the better detective. Murder mystery movies and TV shows have been popular for decades, and the character of Holmes, created by Arthur Conan Doyle, has remained a fixture of the genre in various incarnations. Recently, a new detective has emerged onto the scene in the form of Daniel Craig's Benoit Blanc, who has now used his genius to solve murders in Knives Out (2019) and Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (2022).
In a recent video for Wired, private investigator Mike Lacorte answers a question from the internet regarding whether Holmes or Blanc comes out on the top as the more effective detective. Lacorte reveals that, while Blanc has the edge in a modern setting, if both were put back in Holmes' era in the late 19th century, it's Holmes who...

Colin Firth is in early talks to join Emily Blunt in Steven Spielberg’s next film.
It’s unclear who the Oscar-winning actor will play or what the movie is even about, though it has been described as an “event film,” and the fact that is has been slated to open in the summer of 2026 suggests it will be a return to the kind of blockbusters that made Spielberg a household name. Otherwise, mums the word on what on screen action awaits. Spielberg cooked up the story and David Koepp, who wrote “Jurassic Park” and the first “Mission: Impossible,” penned the script. Universal will release the film, which is produced by Spielberg’s company, Amblin.
Firth is set to appear in “Lockerbie,” a Peacock series about the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103, as well as “Young Sherlock,” a Prime Video series about the famous detective’s early years from Guy Ritchie.

This 15-Year Old Robert Downey Jr. Hit With 70% on Rotten Tomatoes Is Climbing Maxs Streaming Charts
Just one year after what many would consider Robert Downey Jr.'s most important role of his career, he starred in another movie which is shaking up the Max top 10 streaming chart. Sherlock Holmes, which Downey stars in alongside Jude Law, has crept into the top three on Max, overtaking Michael Keaton's Knox Goes Away, but falling short of both Grown Ups and Grown Ups 2. In addition to Downey and Law, Sherlock Holmes also stars Oscar-nominee Rachel McAdams, Mark Strong, and Eddie Marsan. The film comes from acclaimed director Guy Ritchie, who is reuniting with the character of Sherlock Holmes after all these years to work on a TV series titled Young Sherlock.

Young Sherlock TV series can explore Holmes & Moriarty's rivalry origin story. Professor Moriarty wasn't expected to appear, but Young Sherlock offers a chance to explore their backstory. Recent adaptations failed to show how Holmes and Moriarty met, but Young Sherlock has the opportunity to fill that gap.
Sherlock Holmes is returning to TV with the series Young Sherlock, directed by Guy Ritchie, and thanks to one character, it can finally answer a big question about the famous detective and his equally famous archenemy, Moriarty. Guy Ritchie is no stranger to the world of Sherlock Holmes after directing Sherlock Holmes and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows in 2009 and 2011, with Robert Downey Jr. as Holmes and Jude Law as Dr. Watson. Ritchie is now returning to the world of the Great Detective, though not as expected.

Jake Gyllenhaal is set to return for Road House 2, but director Doug Liman's involvement is uncertain due to past issues with streaming release. Guy Ritchie could be the ideal replacement director for Road House 2, given his comedic action style and previous work with Gyllenhaal. Young Sherlock offers a chance to delve into Sherlock's younger years and reveal new aspects of the iconic character. Prequels often do not benefit from including several characters from their source material. Young Sherlock will likely be better if it focuses on Sherlock and not side characters like Watson.
Though Guy Ritchie's upcoming Young Sherlock show could be amazing, the nature of the prequel means that it could easily fall into a disappointing trap. Since the late 1990s, British director Guy Ritchie has helmed iconic crime movies, including Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch. However, in 2009, Ritchie tried his hand at franchises by directing two Sherlock Holmes movies starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. Now, 15 years later, it seems that Ritchie is ready to return to the world of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's incredible detective.

Guy Ritchie will be returning to the Sherlock Holmes IP with a new Young Sherlock show on Prime Video. Due to similar plots and characters, it seems like Young Sherlock could have to compete with CBS' Einstein. However, despite their similarities, Young Sherlock may not face much competition if Einstein's production doesn't happen.
The upcoming Prime Video show Young Sherlock will have an upcoming network rival. Young Sherlock will mark director Guy Ritchies return to the popular detective IP. Ritchie originally directed the 2009 Robert Downey Jr.-led version of Sherlock Holmes, which was then followed up by Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows in 2011. A Sherlock Holmes 3 movie has been in development for years, but the official production of the TV series Young Sherlock has been announced, marking the next entry into Ritchies Holmesian oeuvre.
