Park Chan-wook Drops The Ax with Lee Byung-hun and Son Ye-jin

Park Chan-wook has kicked off production on his next feature, tentatively titled “The Ax” (literaly Korean title “I Can't Help It”) with megastars Lee Byung-hun and Son Ye-jin in the lead.

Based on “The Ax” by Donald E. Westlake, which has also had a French film adaptation so far, the tragic-comic thriller will follow Yoo Man-soo, a salaried man who loses his job under an envious boss and goes to extreme measure to provide for his family. Lee will play Man-soo while Son Ye-jin will portray his devoted wife Mi-ri, who must step up for her husband and her family.

This will of course be the third collaboration between Park and Lee, with the actor having previously worked in the prolific director's breakout early feature “Jsa: Joint Securiry Area” as well as his segment “Box” in the horror anthology “Three… Extremes”. Epic Pictures Sets North America Release For Korean Actioner ‘A Man Of Reason’

Exclusive: Epic Pictures has set a North American release date for Korean action film A Man of Reason which it acquired from Acemaker Movieworks. The feature directorial debut of veteran actor Jung Woo-sung will have a limited theatrical release on July 5 before heading to VOD on July 9.

Jung also stars in A Man of Reason with supporting cast including Kim Nam-gil (The Fiery Priest), Park Sung-woong (The Killing Vote), Kim Jun-han (Hospital Playlist), Park You-na (Hotel del Luna) and Lee Elijah (The Good Detective).

The story follows a hitman who, after spending a decade in prison, learns he has a daughter and just wants a chance at a normal life. However, his former mob boss wants him back at any cost, sending merciless assassins after him. The movie first debuted at the Toronto Film Festival in 2022.

Netflix announced in its worldwide “Tudum” event last year that they were going in hard on their investment in Korean content and while they had been producing tv dramas more often, they confirmed their resolution of doubling down on film productions. One of the most exciting titles they announced at the event was “Seoul Vibe” by “As One” director Moon Hyun-sung, which is finally gearing up for a release.

Synopsis

Worldwide excitement is escalating in Seoul in the days leading up to the opening of the 1988 Summer Olympics. The fashion is old school, the music is sentimental and the racing is the best in the world. Synopsis

Ah-yeong who graduated with child studies major becomes the babysitter for Yeong-chae who is raising a six-month-old child by herself.

Alongside Kim, Ryu Hyun-kyung (“A Tiger in Winter”) stars as Yeong-chae while Yum Hye-ran, who also featured in “Innocent Witness” with Kim, is also a part of the cast-list. “I” is scheduled to release on February 10th, 2021.
