While filming in Jamaica, locals who had personal or at least second-hand ties to Bob Marley had a chance to work on the film, in front of and behind the camera.
For his role as Bob Marley, Kingsley Ben-Adir immersed himself in Jamaican Patois for over a year. On set, he was supported by a team of seven to eight language experts. The language & dialect sounds authentically Jamaican & Ben sounds convincingly like Bob.
Kingsley Ben-Adir said he was Initially hesitant about playing Bob Marley because he's not Jamaican and he couldn't sing or play guitar.
In the film, Bob Marley refuses treatment all together when it's discovered he had cancer. In reality he did seek alternative treatments though he ultimately died in 1981.
