Beautiful Story

The movie isn't great, but the story and the message it brings is. Well worth the time to watch. I have enjoyed these these actors on screen in other presentations, but I fear the director did not optimize their talents in this film- yet their conveyance of the elephants' plight rings strong and true. This movie makes me want to return to Africa with haste.

A sweet little movie

Cute romantic movie. A bit on the sappy side, but does a good job of not offending anyone.

I like the elephant conservation message.

A good way to bring a very important message in a non-confrontational way.

Cute, Fun to Watch

I watch a lot of dramas, SciFi and so forth, but at times I like a break, something easy but not stupid. This movie fit the bill, no I did not find life's epiphany here, just a nice sweet movie. I can see that it's not difficult to have a movie without swearing, guns, fighting, sex scenes and still entertain us.

Nice little movie with a message

Ok, it was a little cheesy, as someone said, but I liked it. I liked the actors, the scenery, the animals, and the message about elephant conservation. People love to pick apart movies but you can just sit back and enjoy it for what it is. It was never meant to be an award winner. It's just a pleasant film to watch at Christmas or anytime.

Nice movie, not very Zambian

This is a nice little movie. My only issues are with the lack of actual Zambian culture. My reference: I'm married to a Zambian. There are a couple locations I know for sure are in Zambia, the original hotel and the elephant orphanage are real locations in Zambia. The "local" characters are mostly not played by Zambian actors, there is no Zambian music, and almost none of the Zambian languages. There is more Swahili and Zulu in the film than any of the 140+ languages that exist in Zambia. Also, Christmas isn't really celebrated in Zambia, at least not how it's portrayed in the film. It's a shame really, it's a beautiful country with a rich culture and they didn't access really any of it.

Cute little movie

I always fancy an African Safari and this movie just pandered to my taste. It just takes you away to a totally different world. Forget logic just sit back and indulge in it.

Elephants had more acting skills

Script was poor. Acting made it worse. And this was all wrapped and put in a bow by someone who shouldn't have been given the chance at directing it. I get the awareness piece for Elephants, but don't dress it like this. I'm sorry to say, but they could have learned something from Lifetime's Christmas library. And that's saying something.

Finally a smart woman in a love story!!!

Actually both the main man and the main woman in this movie were smart and interesting. So if you want to see a brainless couple fall in love, not the right movie. And who hasn't always loved Rob Lowe.

Pleasant moment

A perfect movie to spend a pleasant moment. Good cinematography and acting. The only thing I would reproach is that it doesn't feel much as a Christmas movie. It do not transmit that Christmas spirit, that often Christmas movies does. However, with more than a month before christmas, is perfect to watch in family .

Utterly predictable feel-good movie in a beautiful setting

The story in and of itself is nothing original or surprising. The story doesn't make much sense and the dialogue is super cheesy. But it's a feel-good movie and the scenery is gorgeous.

Probably

It is probably the best romcom I watched in the past 3 years. Educational and not only love. Messages not only the elephant as well as what we pursuing in life. Quite mind blowing and fun to watch.

What rom com, I watched it for the baby animals.

It's rare to see such aged leads in a rom com, usually they are much younger so I suppose this movie gives hope to older people still searching for love. There is a underlining message of the plight of animals who are hunted and killed by poachers as well and the backdrop for most of the movie is on an animal sanctuary. I don't know what I liked more, seeing exotic baby animals interact with people or the rom com part of the movie. As a rom com you already know the ending as it's text book but the journey to get there was worth watching.

A bit of heat for Christmas!

Barely a Christmas film, has some tentative links, with some of it being set at Christmas, but an enjoyable story, Rob Lowe oozes Rob Lowe all over the place and Kristin Davis is a likeable lead. And it has Elephants, lots of Elephants, Elephants are always good!

Wonderful , sweet movie

I seriously don't understand all of the haters. Why watch a romantic movie and then diss it for being just that!? Anyway-this movie was much more than just terrific romance. The African scenery was striking and beautiful, and the elephants were adorable. I could watch them all day. Plus, it has a great message about the depletion of the elephant population due to poaching, but it isn't too preachy. It does make me want to donate to the conservation efforts, for sure. I've watched them movie twice so far and will definitely watch it again.

Made in a large cheese factory

Watched this for Rob Lowe. He is still so hot. Story was completely predictable me and my sister guessed every plot development ahead of time. Some hilarious cheese ball lines. Zero chemistry with two leads and little chemistry between mother and son either. Gave it 5 for the laughs it gave us and rob lowes gorgeous face.

Yes, to this heartwarming movie

This sweet movie really had me tearing up with happy emotions throughout the entire movie. Please Do not listen to any of the negative reviews. This beautiful movie was tugging at my heartstrings from the very beginning to the very end. Thank you for bringing up the importance of the elephant conservation and rescue to the forefront. We all could learn more about this cause. Add in Rob Lowe and Kristen Davis and it's a truly adorable and fun holiday movie to watch and enjoy. Would love to see a sequel!!

If you don't like this your made of stone

I knew from the premis you would know the end by the first 15 minutes however its is a good heartwarming Christmas chick flick but with some conscious on the side to remind us we need to help the elephants. Perfect chilled easy viewing (and why does Rob Lowe never age)

Elephant Dung

It's as if this movie was written by a 16 year old for their high school project.

Everything is so obvious you could guess it from the start. Rob Lowe is also hideously annoying.

It worries me that people would give this 10/10.

Excellent antidote to a difficult 2020

Nice to see Netflix offering Hallmark style movies as a feel good balance to the usual fare. It's a nice story ably supported by nice acting. And it makes two very important points. One is the preciousness of elephants, which are highly intelligent social beings that are being decimated because people want to carve their tusks into pretty ornaments or grind them down to make aphrodisiacs (as if there weren't more than enough people on this planet already), while the meat is left to rot and the orphaned young are left to die. The more we are learning about elephants the more amazing they are perceived to be (as with so many other creatures that share this planet with us). The other is the contrast between the artificial (and let's be frank, largely superficial) life of humans in cities and the authentic natural world. The film has been criticised for lack of realism (where are the insects, the non-human predators?), but my guess is that when Kate arrived in Zambia she probably felt truly alive for the first time since she was a child. Of course we like our comforts, but what proportion of the resident population of NYC (for example) actually live more comfortable lives than they would in much of the so-called Third World? The privileges of development are not spread nearly as widely as they should be. imho, it should be part of young people's education in the west to spend at least a year living in the Third World. It would not only teach them how most people in the world are actually living (and coping, and finding love and happiness) but would help them to appreciate the benefits that 'development' has brought them, to value those benefits and to seek to spread them worldwide.

Hallmark goes to Africa?

I started this movie before Christmas, thinking it was a Christmas movie. Stopped about 20 minutes thinking maybe it wasn't. Finished it in the new year realizing it actually sort of was. A very typical romance story (Hallmark) in an entirely different location. It was nice to see the elephants added to the story, but otherwise nothing new to see here.
