Marina Sirtis, the actress who played Deanna Troi, was disappointed when her character was cut from an episode in Star Trek: The Next Generation. Troi's storylines often lacked depth and her empathic abilities were often reduced to stating the obvious. However, Troi had moments to shine on the show, particularly in "Face of the Enemy" and throughout season 7 after she was promoted to Commander.
Marina Sirtis was disappointed when her character, Counselor Deanna Troi, was cut from an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation. With a human father and a Betazoid mother, Troi had the ability to sense the emotions of those around her. This not only made her an excellent ship's counselor, but it also allowed her to help Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) determine the intentions of any aliens the crew encountered. Troi also proves herself to be a good counselor on multiple occasions, as she...

The Top Gun movies focus on the human stories of their central pilot characters while using Naval Aviation as a narrative device. The identity of the enemy forces in Top Gun and Top Gun: Maverick is not explicitly revealed, but there are hints suggesting Russia, China, and Iran as potential antagonists. The enemy's identity is deliberately kept ambiguous to avoid controversy and maintain international appeal, with the movies portraying a fictional combination of different nations.
The Top Gun franchise leaves no stone unturned with its depiction of the US Naval Aviation but leaves the details of Maverick's enemies to the viewers' imagination. At its core, Top Gun and Top Gun: Maverick are human stories that explore the journeys and relationships of their central pilot characters. From their pursuits of self-discovery to their struggles with grief and loss, the franchise explores it all by using Naval Aviation as a narrative device.

Why did Reacher's own mother only ever refer to him by his last name? Author Lee Child created Jack Reacher as an antidote to the crime novels that were popular during the '90s. So, instead of being an alcoholic overwhelmed by both personal and work problems, Reacher is a muscle-bound nomad who wanders from town to town and has few personal connections. He's Sherlock Holmes in the body of Dolph Lundgren, and trouble always seems to find him. Reacher season 1 touched on his upbringing a little with flashbacks involving his brother Joe, father Stan (Matthew Marsden), and mother Josephine (Leslie Fray).
These scenes involved Reacher beating up a local bully when the family moves to a new Army base. Joe takes the blame, but the incident ends up damaging their father's career after Reacher refuses to apologize. Not much is revealed about Stan or Josephine, though in a key flashback,...

Comedy-drama is sixth feature from Belgian director Benoit Mariage after festival hits such as Les Convoyeurs Attendent and Cow-Boy.
Brussels-based Be for Films has taken world sales rights on Benoit Mariage’s new comedy-drama Habib about a young Belgian actor of Moroccan parentage who takes a role as Francis of Assisi in a bid to break the cycle of being typecast as an amiable Arab in mediocre films.
Getting into character is a challenge, however, when his father unexpectedly returns to Brussels from Morocco with his new wife for treatment for early-onset Alzheimer’s and Habib finds himself juggling the demands of his different milieu.

During the live-streamed case study “Seven Grams: Solution Journalism and Augmented Reality,” presented on Thursday at the NewImages Festival, director Karim Ben Khelifa explained the origins of his next VR project – once again made with the help of executive producer Chloé Jarry of Lucid Realities.
As mentioned also in the short trailer, shown to the audience gathered in the room as well as the one watching online, “Seven Grams” is a global journalistic project that tells the story of smartphones through a smartphone, using Ar. With each mobile containing roughly seven grams of precious minerals, like gold, one country in particular has an abundance of them: The Democratic Republic of Congo. “But for many, this has been a curse rather than a blessing,” it was said in the video materials, as they are often extracted in horrendous conditions, violating basic human rights.
“I had forgotten I had to do this in English!

The festival is set to go ahead, come what may, and flaunts a tantalising programme toplined by the new, Cannes 2020-approved Thomas Vinterberg title and Venice’s Golden Lion victor Nomadland. Film Fest Gent will once again be celebrating the seventh art between 13 and 24 October, with an enticing selection which comprises a number of much-anticipated works, not least the new Thomas Vinterberg opus Another Round, which has been awarded the Cannes 2020 label. Online participants - and festival organisers - will be amused to note that instead of raising a glass “in person” in honour of the Opening Ceremony, they can at least watch attending actors raise a glass, if not several. A further thirteen feature films will be battling it out in the Official Competition. Opening the line-up is the new film by Stephan Streker, The Enemy, based upon a true story which rocked host country Belgium: a...
