Exclusive: Rebecca Wisocky (Ghosts), Joe Lanza (The Americans) and Crosby Fitzgerald (Palm Royale) are set for key recurring roles opposite Grace Van Patten and Sharon Horgan in Hulu‘s Amanda Knox limited series.

Amanda is based on the true story of how Amanda Knox was wrongfully convicted for the murder of her roommate Meredith Kercher and her 16-year odyssey to set herself free.

Wisocky will play Cecilia, an American in prison who moves into Amanda’s (Van Patten) cell to take care of her. Lanza portrays Chris Mellas, Amanda’s stepdad who found love later in life with Edda (Horgan) and is a strong presence in Amanda’s life.

Born in Israel and raised in Los Angeles, Emmy Award-winning producer Reiss began his career at United Talent Agency in 1998 and joined Artists First in 2015.

He recently produced the 20th Century Studios feature Quiz Lady starring Awkwafina, Will Ferrell, and Sandra Oh which won the Emmy for Outstanding Television Movie.

Fortune Feimster is back with another Netflix special, “Crushing It,” set to debut on the streamer on Dec. 3.

In the stand-up special, which follows her 2020 hour “Sweet & Salty” and 2022’s “Good Fortune,” Feimster “shares hilarious stories from her life, including her ‘romantic’ honeymoon with her wife and her reflections on no longer being her mom’s surrogate husband,” per Netflix. According to Yang, the most recent season of “Awkwafina Is Nora From Queens” shot at the same studio as the fourth and final season of “Succession,” and “the ‘Nora From Queens’ production office was pretty close to the ‘Succession’ stages and their production office.” One day, according to Yang, Strong walked into the “Nora From Queens” office and asked where the bathroom was.

Awkwafina may be heading under the sea for “The Little Mermaid” and fighting Dracula in “Renfield” this spring, but at heart, the BAFTA nominee is still Nora from Queens. Season 3 of the star’s Comedy Central series, aptly titled “Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens,” will premiere on April 26. The season comes over a year after the show’s sophomore outing ended in October 2021.

Originally premiering in January 2020, “Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens” stars the “Farewell” actor as a fictionalized version of herself, in a family drama set in her home neighborhood of Flushing, Queens. The show follows Nora as she navigates her twenties in New York City, with the support of her tightknit family. Bd Wong stars as her father Wally, Lori Tan Chinn as her grandmother, Bowen Yang as her cousin Edmund, and Jennifer Esposito as Wally’s girlfriend Brenda.

Season 3 will focus on Nora as she navigates “themes of identity and success.

Comedy Central has released the first official teaser for Season 3 of “Awkwafina Is Nora From Queens” ahead of the series’ April 26 premiere date, Variety can exclusively reveal.

The television comedy “Awkafina Is Nora From Queens” draws inspiration from creator and writer Awkwafina’s life experiences growing up in Queens, N.Y. — and she’ll also make her directorial debut with Season 3. On the show, Awkwafina (aka Nora Lin) maneuvers through the hardships of young adulthood with the support of her closest family members, her father (Bd Wong), grandmother (Lori Tan Chinn) and cousin (Bowen Yang). From the looks of the teaser, it looks like their lively, eccentric family dynamic from previous seasons will still be present in Season 3.

Awkwafina is stilling facing the conflicts that come with navigating the waters of life in this upcoming season, most prominently through how she (according to Comedy Central’s logline “explores themes of identity and success.

Rising star Stephanie Hsu is following up her Oscar-nominated turn in “Everything Everywhere All at Once” by going on a girls’ trip in the R-rated friendship comedy “Joy Ride,” which is coming to theaters this summer and got a new trailer on Friday.

Hsu, who plays an American star of Chinese soap operas named Kat, is part of an ensemble cast led by “Emily in Paris” breakout Ashley Park as Audrey, a woman who was born in China and adopted by white American parents, and “Good Trouble’ star Sherry Cola as Lolo, her childhood friend. Rounding out the foursome is comedian Sabrina Wu, who plays Lolo’s cousin Deadeye, a moniker they received for their dead eyes. The film follows the group on a trip to China in search of Audrey’s birth mother. Comic misadventures involving sex, drugs, culture clash, and K-pop ensue.

Lionsgate has released the first trailer for Adele Lim’s “Joy Ride,” a comedy feature starring Oscar nominee Stephanie Hsu, Ashley Park, Sherry Cola and Sabrina Wu. Premiering March 17 at SXSW, the film is set to be released in theaters July 7.

“Joy Ride” tells the raunchy and fun story of how four best friends embark on a once-in-a-lifetime international adventure. In the film, Audrey (Park) has to go to Asia on a business trip to close a massive deal. Things go drastically wrong when she searches for her birth mother with her childhood best friend Lolo (Cola), her college friend turned Chinese soap star Kat (Hsu) and Lolo’s eccentric cousin Deadeye (Wu). They also nearly end up in a Chinese jail for doing drugs.

The red band trailer features a glimpse into the wild adventure the foursome embark on, including cocaine-filled condoms and impersonating a K-Pop band. And that’s just the beginning.

At the annual pre-dga Awards nominees symposium Saturday morning, “Top Gun: Maverick” nabbed the most enthusiastic applause (after a breathtaking clip of Tom Cruise soaring in an F-14). And as usual for these panels, the “Everything Everywhere All at Once” directing duo Daniels scored the most laughs. They even had the packed audience at the DGA participate in one of their daily warm-up exercises, waving their hands and feet.

After an extended season of prolonged PR exposure, there might not seem to be anything new to learn from these accomplished filmmakers, but here are some nuggets wrested from them by DGA moderator Jeremy Kagan.

When Stephanie Hsu signed on to appear in an episode of fledgling Comedy Central series “Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens” in 2019, she had just wrapped season three of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” and was nearing the end of the Broadway run of “Be More Chill.” She was mostly looking for “something dumb” to do alongside Awkwafina and Hsu’s old college comedy pal Bowen Yang.

Fresh off the 100m global success of Everything Everywhere All At Once, filmmaking duo Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert have signed an exclusive five-year pact with Universal Pictures.

The Daniels and their producer Jonathan Wang will work with the studio on potential projects. No further details were announced on Tuesday (August 2).
