Ewan McGregor Calls for Andor Season 3 & Obi-Wan’s Return to Star Wars
Image
Andorwrapped its two-season run on Disney+ with its May 2025 series finale. Even though Andor was always intended to end with Season 2, one legendary Star Wars actor would love a third season, and he wants to be a part of it.

According to Collider, Ewan McGregor, speaking at Fan Expo Canada in Toronto, pleaded with Disney+ to continue making Andor. The series has earned 22 Emmy nominations throughout its two-season run. Andor has been a hit with fans and critics alike and boasts a nearly perfect 96% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes. Its audience score is slightly lower, but still respectable, at 89%.

What makes a Jedi Master? Ewan McGregor on his journey to Obi-Wan Kenobi
Image
Ewan McGregor has been acting since the 1990s, but he is most renowned for his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequel trilogy. Though critically reviled, the prequels have gained a resurgence in popularity, not least because of McGregor’s performance.

His popularity was more than obvious at this special evening event at Fan Expo Canada in Toronto. McGregor needs to speak only two simple words to drive a crowd wild. And he knows it. McGregor took to the stage with his now memorable ‘Hello there’, before talking about all things Star Wars.

Ewan McGregor Hints At Possible Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2
Image
Star Wars icon Ewan McGregor has given a seemingly positive update on his franchise future. With a strong body of work early in his career, including iconic British movies like Trainspotting, McGregor achieved global fame when he took the role of young Obi-Wan Kenobi in the first Star Wars prequel movie, Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace.

McGregor reprised the role for two more sequels, Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones, and Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. In 2022, 17 years after Revenge of the Sith, McGregor returned to his most iconic role in the miniseries Obi-Wan Kenobi, and now McGregor has discussed...

Ewan McGregor Gives Encouraging Star Wars Update After Recent Report
Image
Actor Ewan McGregor may have won an Emmy for his role in the 2020 miniseries Halston. However, he’s probably best known for playing Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Warsprequel films and the 2022 Disney+ series, Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Following reports that Obi-Wan Kenobi may get a second season, after all, McGregor, per DailyCosmicMarvel on Threads, gave fans an exciting update. At the recent Fan Expo Canada convention, when asked if there were plans for an Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2, McGregor replied, “I don’t know their plans right now…but I’m sure at some point.”

Ahsoka has already been greenlit for Season 2 on Disney+, but that hasn’t officially been the case for Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Liam Neeson Thought His ‘Star Wars’ Death Scene Was “A Bit Namby-Pamby”: “Hardly A Master Jedi”
Image
A somewhat long time ago in a galaxy not so far away, Liam Neeson took a lightsaber to the gut.

The Oscar nominee recently expressed dissatisfaction with his Jedi Master character Qui-Gon Jinn in Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace, noting that he was “supposed to be a Master Jedi” but got duped during a lightsaber duel.

“I thought my death was a bit namby-pamby. I’m supposed to be a Master Jedi,” he told GQ. “My character fell for that. ‘Oh, I’m going for your face! No, I’m not, I’m going for your stomach.’ ‘Oh, you got me!’ Like, oh please. Hardly a Master Jedi.”

“But still, it was great,” noted Neeson of the filming experience.

More than 20 years later, he reprised the role for a reunion with Ewan McGregor in his Disney+ spin-off series Obi-Wan Kenobi. “I kinda liked that. It was just one line.

Joel Edgerton & Felicity Jones Shine in Trailer for Epic Netflix Drama
Image
Netflix just dropped a brand-new teaser trailer for Train Dreams, starring Star Wars alumsJoel Edgerton and Felicity Jones. The film, from the team behind 2023’s Oscar-nominated prison drama Sing Sing, will debut in theaters on Nov. 7 before coming to Netflix on Nov. 21, 2025.

Based on the 2011 novella by Denis Johnson, Train Dreams follows logger and railroad worker Robert Grainier. In addition to Edgerton and Jones, the movie co-stars Academy Award nominee William H. Macy (Fargo) and Emmy Award nominee Clifton Collins Jr. (Westworld).

The teaser trailer includes a quote from The Playlist calling Edgerton’s performance as Robert Grainier a “career-best.” The film tracks him as he “leads a life of unexpected depth and beauty in the rapidly-changing America of the early 20th Century."

This prompts him to spend time away from his wife Gladys (played by Jones) and their young family. Audiences see scenes of Robert and others working to build a railroad,...

Ted Lasso Season 4 Adds 7 New Actors, 2 More Fan-Favorites Confirmed to Return
Image
Apple TV+ on July 21 confirmed that production is finally underway on the highly anticipated fourth season of the streamer’s popular sports comedy Ted Lasso. Now, it’s being revealed that there will be seven new faces appearing on the show when it returns to the streamer.

In March, shortly after news broke that Ted Lasso had been renewed for a fourth season, it was announced that the role of Ted Lasso’s (Jason Sudeikis) son, Henry, would be recast. For the first three seasons of the show, Henry was played by child actor Gus Turner. While a specific reason for the casting change wasn’t given at that time, it has now been revealed who will fill the role of Henry moving forward.

Expect a New Henry in Season 4

Qui-Gon Jinn Actor Liam Neeson Remains Skillfully Dodges Amid Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 Questions
Image
Qui-Gon Jinn actor, Liam Neeson, has skillfully dodged some Star Wars questions, specifically when quizzed about Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2. Star Wars' TV shows are expected to continue in the future, despite a resurgence in theaters. Upcoming Star Wars movies are a priority, but Disney+ will not be forgotten, with Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 having been long-rumored.

In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant's own Liam Crowley, Liam Neeson was asked about these rumors. Neeson was asked if he agrees with new Superman actor David Corenswet that Qui-Gon should have been the one to train Anakin, to which the veteran actor replied, "I'd love to," specifically in reference to working more with Jake Lloyd.

Neeson was then asked about the rumors of Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 and whether we will see more Qui-Gon in the future. Neeson skillfully dodged any comments about his commitment to Star Wars, however, stating, "Oh has it?...

Disney has two streaming services to use for its Pay 1 window, which means it doesn’t need to license its movies widely.

Disney is one of the oldest and most successful movie studios in operation in the United States. It has a huge catalog of beloved classics, from animated movies to more recent acquisitions like the Marvel and Star Wars canon. Three Years Later, Star Wars' Young Princess Leia Opens Up About The Pressures Of Appealing To The Fanbase
Image
Obi-Wan Kenobi star Vivien Lyra Blair has opened up about what it was like for her to step into such a massive franchise and protect Carrie Fisher’s and Princess LeiaOrgana’s beloved Star Wars legacies. The Obi-Wan Kenobi series may have first and foremost been about Obi-Wan’s hardships in exile, but it also introduced us to a version of Princess Leia we’d never seen before.

While Carrie Fisher’s Leia was just 19 years old in the retitled A New Hope, Vivien Lyra Blair’s version of the character was only 10 years old, a mischievous, wise-cracking, hopeful, and kind young Princess on the cusp of becoming one of the Rebellion’s greatest leaders.

Blair had a difficult balance to strike. How do you show people a new version of such an iconic character while honoring the late Carrie Fisher’s legacy and pleasing Star Wars' notoriously difficult-to-please fanbase?...

'Cancelled' Star Wars show renewed for another season, reports say
Image
The Star Wars franchise is no stranger to stumbling and getting back up. It's one of the most iconic movie series in Hollywood history but there have been some darker days for it through the years as well. Let's not forget the response to the prequel trilogy - particularly that of The Phantom Menace and Jar Jar Binks - or Disney Plus series The Book of Boba Fett. Lucasfilm for sure would have liked stronger responses, but the titles themselves were success stories and the franchise persisted.

Star Wars' newest era has provided its devoted fans with plenty of opportunities for discussion, as there have been plenty of ups and downs that have come with it. While the Skywalker movie series has come to an end and both Disney and Lucasfilm figured out the next steps for the stories in that galaxy so far, far away, the franchise lived on...

New rumor suggests Ewan McGregor could return for Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2
Image
More than three years after Obi-Wan Kenobi debuted on Disney+, a new rumor suggests the Jedi Master’s journey may not be over just yet.

According to a recent report from industry insider Daniel Richtman, Star Wars actor Ewan McGregor could return as Obi-Wan in a potential second season. No additional details were provided with no production timeline, casting confirmations, and no official green light from Lucasfilm has been announced.

Originally developed as a limited series, Obi-Wan Kenobi was marketed as "The Complete Series" upon its physical release. The show premiered in May 2022 to strong viewership and fan engagement.

Set ten years after the events of Revenge of the Sith, the show followed Obi-Wan living in exile on Tatooine as he quietly watched over a young Luke Skywalker. When young Princess Leia is kidnapped, Obi-Wan is forced out of hiding, triggering a confrontation with his former apprentice, Darth Vader, in...

Rumor mill: Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 is happening
Image
Obi-Wan Kenobi was one of the stranger Star Wars projects at Disney. On the one hand, it marked a fun return for some franchise veterans, with Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen both coming back to play Obi-Wan and Anakin Skywalker respectively. That said, the story, which bridged the gap between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, felt a little unnecessary.

Season 1 debuted way back in 2022. It left room for a second outing, but Disney went quiet on the project very quickly. It was presumed that the series would end with one season. In terms of reviews, Obi-Wan Kenobi received a lot of praise from critics; when it came to viewership, its debut even surpassed the premiere of The Mandalorian season 2. On paper, it more than deserved to be renewed, but Disney did bill the series as limited.

The rumor of another season comes from insider Daniel Richtman, who's...

Rumor: Obi-wan Kenobi Season 2 Is Now "In Development" At Lucasfilm Following Fan Demand
Image
Obi-Wan Kenobi was originally conceived as a movie and would have fallen under the "A Star Wars Story" banner. Solo's poor box office performance ended that possibility, and with Disney eager to bolster its streaming offerings, it became a six-part TV series.

Despite some divisive ideas and characters, the show was a hit and was praised for filling in the gaps between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. Lucasfilm even found a way to give fans an Obi-Wan vs. Darth Vader rematch, leading to that now-iconic scene where we caught a glimpse of what remains of Anakin Skywalker beneath the Sith Lord's helmet.

With a decade to go until Ben's demise on the Death Star, Star Wars fans are optimistic that a second season could happen, potentially exploring the Jedi Master's rivalry with Maul by expanding what we saw in Star Wars Rebels.

After Ahsoka, Another Star Wars Show on Disney+ Is Reportedly Moving Forward With a Second Season
Image
Ahsoka may no longer be the only recent live-action Star Wars series to receive a second season. A new rumor claims that Lucasfilm is in development on another season of Obi-Wan Kenobi.

According to Daniel Richtman (via The Direct), Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 is now in development at Lucasfilm. Unfortunately, the scooper did not indicate when the second season might go into production or be released on Disney+. Originally envisioned as a solo film, Obi-Wan Kenobi was redeveloped into a limited series following the financial failure of Solo: A Star Wars Story. With the physical media release of Obi-Wan Kenobi labeling it as "The Complete Series" as opposed to "Season 1," it's clear that Lucasfilm initially had no intention of continuing the Disney+ show despite fan interest.

Set a decade after the Jedi Order was purged during the events of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, the first season...

'Star Wars' Rumor Reveals That 'Obi-Wan Kenobi' Season 2 Is in the Works
Image
Star Wars fans might be headed back to a galaxy far, far away alongside their favorite bearded Jedi. Ever since Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 1 was released in 2022 on Disney+, there has been little to no movement on the Star Wars series. Well, until now. A new rumor points to a long-awaited return for the miniseries, which featured Ewan McGregor reprising his beloved role.

According to Daniel Richtman, Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 is in the works. No other details were included in the report, and, until further confirmation, it should be taken with a grain of salt. However, after McGregor has consistently expressed his desire to tell more stories featuring Obi-Wan, there may be some validity to the latest rumor. The first season of Obi-Wan Kenobi has an 82% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, while audience reviews garnered a lower 61% rating. It should be noted that the latter score was likely affected by review bombing,...

Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 Gets Major Update 3 Years After Season 1 Ended
Image
Obi-Wan Kenobi just got its first potentially major update over three years after its first season ended on Disney+. Coming in as Star Wars' third live-action series developed exclusively for Disney+, Obi-Wan Kenobi gave fans a nostalgic look at one of the franchise's most famous legacy characters. While Kenobi's future has been a question mark since then, there may be hope that Star Wars will revisit him.

A new rumor indicated that a second season of Obi-Wan Kenobi is in development for Lucasfilm. Obi-Wan was originally billed as a limited series for Lucasfilm, giving star Ewan McGregor another chance to portray the character he made famous in Star Wars' prequel trilogy. However, that status may be in line to change, with Lucasfilm and Star Wars hoping to bring another massive hit to Disney+.

While scooper Daniel Richtman shared the rumor, he gave no sign of when Obi-Wan Kenobi's second season...

Every Live-Action Star Wars TV Season Ranked
Image
Spoilers ahead for all live-action "Star Wars" shows.

It's been nearly six years since the great Disney+ "Star Wars" project began with "The Mandalorian" season 1 in 2019. In the absence of any theatrical films since "Star Wars: Episode IX -- The Rise of Skywalker," streaming has become the de facto platform for the franchise, and Lucasfilm has put out an honestly staggering amount of live-action television in just over half a decade. That's in addition to the fantastic work constantly being done by Lucasfilm Animation, but today, we're specifically talking about the live-action "Star Wars" series.

As of right now, the future of live-action "Star Wars" on Disney+ is unclear, with "Ahsoka" season 2 being the lone exception to the rule. Not only that, but "Andor" creator Tony Gilroy (while addressing the show's massive budget) has also claimed Disney told him, in his own words, "Streaming is dead, we don't have the money we had before.

Star Wars legend officially rules out return: 'They should focus on the future'
Image
The world of pop-culture owes the Star Wars franchise a huge debt of gratitude. What started with George Lucas' vision of a space adventure in the 1970s has spawned into one of the most successful film series of all time. Now, almost five decades later, and it's still going strong as one of the titans of Hollywood.

One of the biggest reasons that Star Wars has been so enduring over the years is the popularity of the characters involved in the intergalactic adventures. From Han Solo and Luke Skywalker to Darth Vader and Cassian Andor, there have been a multitude of fan-favorites that have helped Star Wars stand the test of time.

With the phenomenon still entertaining fans on the big screen and small screen, the stories for the franchise will continue. However, don't expect to see one of its biggest stars feature anymore.

All 10 Star Wars TV shows, ranked worst to best

Lucasfilm has been making Star Wars TV shows for nearly two decades, starting with the animated series The Clone Wars, which began in 2008. But production really ramped up when The Mandalorian, the first-ever live-action Star Wars show, premiered in 2019. After that, Lucasfilm and Disney went crazy, making new shows almost faster than fans could keep up.

Some shows hit and some shows didn't. Now that we're deep into this experiment, it's time to take stock. Here all all 10 Star Wars TV shows yet made, ranked worst to best.

How 'Tales of the Underworld' ties into 'Obi-Wan Kenobi'
Image
It's always satisfying when one Star Wars project connects to another and expands on a previous idea. Recently, the Star Wars anthology series, Tales of the Underworld, made a surprising connection to Obi-Wan Kenobi.

The great thing about this is that by connecting both shows, Star Wars is rewarding fans for watching animated shows. This is something we've seen often in the franchise over the last few years, beginning with The Mandalorian and continuing with other shows like Ahsoka. Several characters from animated series like The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels were brought to life on The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Ahsoka, including Ahsoka Tano, Sabine Wren, Hera Syndulla, Chopper, Cad Bane, and more.

Andor Season 2 Ending Explained: A Complicated Show Gets A Complicated Ending
Image
This post contains spoilers for all of "Andor" season 2.

I wonder sometimes how we would view the first decade of Disney's ownership of Star Wars as a whole if it weren't for "Andor." The sequel trilogy, which started strong, ended with the most universally disliked film in franchise history. A new streaming era on Disney+ kicked off with a fantastic spin-off in "The Mandalorian," then slowly devolved with less stellar entries like "Obi-Wan Kenobi" and "The Book of Boba Fett." I like "The Bad Batch" and "Tales of the Jedi" as much as the next guy, but the flagship Star Wars stories just started to seem like bad bets. And then "Andor" arrived in 2022, and as far as I'm concerned, none of that other stuff really matters.

It may seem like I'm being hyperbolic, but bear with me. "Andor" is over now, with the final three episodes of season 2 hitting Disney+ this week,...

Star Wars Resurrects One Forgotten Obi-Wan Kenobi Plotline In New Disney+ Show
Image
The Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series spent valuable time introducing and explaining an important plot point in the world of Star Wars that many fans likely forgot about, but the franchise's newest Disney+ series recently brought it back and expanded upon it. As time has gone on, more and more projects in the galaxy far, far away have been set during the rise of the Empire era between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, including Obi-Wan Kenobi and the recently released Tales of the Underworld.

Three years ago, Obi-Wan Kenobi premiered on Disney+ and allowed fans to catch up with Ewan McGregor's Obi-Wan Kenobi as he was forced back into action following the events of Revenge of the Sith (find out if Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 will ever happen here). In that series, one of the biggest plotlines that was expanded on featured something known as the Hidden Path...

It’s Time to Revisit Ewan McGregor’s Brilliant Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 Pitch
Image
Ewan McGregor is a leading pop culture icon, thanks to his brilliant performance as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars franchise. The fans were elated when he returned to his iconic role, years after the Prequel Trilogy, in the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series.

The Obi-Wan Kenobi series was set after the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. It followed Ewan McGregor’s surviving Jedi Master, coming out from his hiding to rescue a young Princess Leia, kidnapped by the Galactic Empire. Interestingly, McGregor had a brilliant idea for a second season of the show that never came to fruition.

Love scum and villainy? Try 'Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld'

The new animated series will see two beloved villains return to the Star Wars universe.

The Star Wars galaxy isn’t made up solely of dashing heroes, terrifying villains, and cute little critters. Andor Showrunner Tony Gilroy Reveals Why Season 2 Had To Recast Returning Star Wars Character [Spoiler]
Image
In the sixth episode of Andor, "What a Festive Evening," Mon Mothma and her husband, Perrin, bump into a familiar character who now has a new face: Senator Bail Organa.

Bail was played by Jimmy Smits in the Star Wars prequels, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, and later returned in Disney-era projects Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Obi-Wan Kenobi. However, in Andor season 2, Benjamin Bratt (Doctor Strange) takes over as Princess Leia's father.

Entertainment Weekly (via SFFGazette.com) caught up with showrunner Tony Gilroy to discuss his decision to recast the role, and, as expected, it came down to a simple case of logistics.

"We couldn't work it out," he confirmed. "The scheduling didn’t work out. We really tried hard, but he wasn't available and couldn't make it. Bringing back legacy characters is really complicated. It's very expensive. It's very, who's working when.

Ryan Gosling Met with Hayden Christensen to Prepare for ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’ Debut
Image
Ryan Gosling is calling on Anakin Skywalker for assistance. Gosling, who is set to lead “Star Wars” franchise installment “Star Wars: Starfighter,” had dinner with iconic star Hayden Christensen, who famously played the young Darth Vader in the prequel films (he later reprised the role for series “Obi-Wan Kenobi” and “Ahsoka.”)

Christensen told Et while at “Star Wars” Celebration in Tokyo that Gosling is an “awesome” actor who would fit into the franchise well. “I don’t think he needs any advice. He’s awesome,” Christensen said. “I got to have dinner with him last night, and I know he’s really excited to now be in the ‘Star Wars’ family, and I’m excited for his film.”

“Star Wars: Starfighter” will be directed by Shawn Levy, and is billed as a standalone film that takes place five years after the events of 2019’s “Star Wars: Episode IX — The Rise of Skywalker.

Hayden Christensen Teases Return To ‘Star Wars’ Universe In Darth Vader Role: “There’s A Lot Of Rich Stories We Could Still Tell”
Image
Hayden Christensen will reprise his role as Anakin Skywalker in Ahsoka Season 2, teasing his appearance on the Disney+ series.

During the Star Wars Celebration in Japan, the actor confirmed that he would return to the Star Wars universe as the Jedi Knight who turned to the dark side of the Force, becoming the Sith Lord Darth Vader.

“There’s a lot that we could still explore with Vader,” Christensen told ComicBook in an interview. “I think from where we left off, after Episode III, and everything that he has to reconcile after he’s trapped in this new version of himself, there’s just a lot of very rich stories that we could still tell.”

Christensen noted that he loves the character and added, “I’d love to get to continue with it, and so hopefully we’ll get to do more of it.”

Hayden Christensen Returns as Anakin Skywalker for ‘Ahsoka’ Season 2
Image
Hayden Christensen will reprise his role of the moody teen padawan turned Sith overlord, Anakin Skywalker, for Season 2 of “Ahsoka.” The news was confirmed by the actor himself late Friday evening during Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo.

During a panel between series star Rosario Dawson, creator Dave Filoni and executive producer Jon Favreau, Christensen emerged from off-stage, joining the trio for the discussion. He waited until the last moments of the panel to announce his return to the “Star Wars” universe (via The Hollywood Reporter).

“There’s not much I can share, but Anakin will be back for season two,” Christensen said.

Christensen debuted as Anakin Skywalker in 2002’s “Star Wars: Attack of the Clones” and its follow-up, “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith” in 2005. He later appeared as both Skywalker and Darth Vader in the Disney+ series “Obi-Wan Kenobi.” He was also featured in two episodes of “Ahsoka” Season 1.

How ‘Star Wars’ Is Changing Its Tune
Image
What is the definition of “Star Wars music”? Maybe, to paraphrase Jimmy Carter, you just know it when you hear it.

Most people would answer by pointing to the man who invented and canonized this unique subgenre: John Williams, composer of nine Star Wars films from 1977 to 2019, the original themes for two spinoffs and a district of Disneyland. Williams established an orchestral, operatic musical language, rich with tuneful character themes and draped in classical tradition, a style now so deeply familiar and revered that it is, for many fans, holy scripture.

But as this sprawling galaxy continues to expand, the artists behind every new adventure are questioning what the musical topography should — and can — be.

In the most recent Darwinian leap, a trailer for the second season of Andor was soundtracked with the countrified clang of electric guitar in Steve Earle’s Iraq War protest anthem, “The Revolution Starts Now.

Via ScreenRant, Gilroy said, "Holy crap, we put the bar down here, and we're gonna get crushed if we don't deliver," while discussing possible fan backlash should Season 2 disappoint. Taking it a bit further, Gilroy added, "You see all the other shows, you see other shows where people had trouble sticking the landing, and you're like, 'Oh, my god, we have to,' like, so there's a new pressure."

Dave Filoni and Kevin Feige: these names have been making the rounds in the news cycles ever since it was reported that Kathleen Kennedy will probably be stepping down at the end of 2025 from her position as Lucasfilm’s president.

Her tumultuous reign as Lucasfilm’s head has had fans very disappointed in the Disney era of Star Wars, with shows like The Acolyte, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and The Book of Boba Fett being the steps that led to her descent from grace in the eyes of fans. There is one name that seems like a logical choice to take over from Kennedy, but remains to be seen how this person could usher in a new regime.

Disney Spending $90 Million on a Star Wars Show Only to Nostalgia Bait Fans Is Why It Deserves All That Hate
Image
The Obi-Wan Kenobi miniseries, released on Disney+ in 2022, has been a highly polarizing show for many Star Wars fans. While it was undeniably a major event in the Star Wars universe, especially with Ewan McGregor reprising his iconic role as Obi-Wan Kenobi, it left many fans feeling disappointed and disillusioned with how the franchise evolved under Disney’s stewardship.

The show had a production budget of $90 million, making it Star Wars‘ least expensive live-action series to date. Despite this, the show’s six-episode format, with a hefty budget for each episode, left many fans disappointed. While the series was expected to deliver high production values and groundbreaking storytelling, it instead leaned heavily on nostalgia, ultimately missing an opportunity to offer something fresh and new to the franchise.

Hayden Christensen wanted to return to Star Wars 14 years earlier but never got the call
Image
Hayden Christensen’s return as Anakin Skywalker in Obi-Wan Kenobi was a triumphant moment for Star Wars fans, but a recently resurfaced interview via Reddit reveals that he was ready to reprise the role over a decade earlier. In a 2008 red carpet interview, Christensen admitted that he would have loved to voice Anakin in Star Wars: The Clone Wars — but, surprisingly, he was never approached for the role.

Given Anakin Skywalker’s significance in Star Wars lore, it’s fascinating to learn that Christensen was willing to continue playing the character so soon after Revenge of the Sith. Ultimately, Matt Lanter was cast instead, delivering a fantastic performance that added depth to Anakin’s character throughout The Clone Wars. Still, Christensen’s absence raises an interesting question: Why didn’t George Lucas and Dave Filoni bring him back?

‘Star Wars’ Reportedly Cut Natalie Portman’s Secret Return as Padme in ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’
Image
Some time ago rumors surfaced that Natalie Portman will reprise her role as Padme in the upcoming ‘Ahsoka’ season 2. It made sense at the time considering that we’ve already seen Hayden Christensen return as Anakin in season 1 and the show clearly has perfectly valid mechanisms for deceased characters to return.

The rumor was ultimately debunked, but it appears that Portman was at one point in time ready to return to the franchise, and even filmed her scenes.

Industry insider Jeff Sneider revealed on John Rocha’s The Hot Mic that Natalie Portman filmed scenes for ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ while working on MCU’s ‘Thor: Love and Thunder.’ However, the footage featuring her as Padmé did not make it into the final version of the show.

We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

As of this writing, it's been more than five years since we've had a "Star Wars" movie in theaters, dating back to "The Rise of Skywalker" at the end of 2019 -- though it hasn't been for a lack of trying on Disney and Lucasfilm's part. In the years since Disney purchased Lucasfilm in 2012, many, many "Star Wars" movies have entered development. There are probably several that we'll never hear about. Most of these movies never actually got made.

We're finally getting back to a place where this beloved franchise will return to theaters, with director Jon Favreau's "The Mandalorian and Grogu" set to arrive in 2026. Beyond that, we've got a new movie starring Daisy Ridley's Rey in development, as well as a movie from "Clone Wars" maestro Dave Filoni that will tie together all of the shows in the "Mandalorian" universe.
