Sharon Horgan is setting up shop at HBO.
The creator and star of Bad Sisters and Catastrophe — along with her production company, Merman — has signed a two-year, first-look deal with HBO. The first project under the deal is a comedy series that Horgan will write, executive produce and star in; HBO has given the untitled show a straight-to-series order.
“We’re thrilled to be reunited with Sharon. Her willingness to offer up her own experiences through the characters she creates makes us all feel a little less lonely, that is what sets her comedy apart so brilliantly,” said Amy Gravitt, executive vp comedy programming at HBO and Max. “She also has such a sharp eye for material and a strong desire to shepherd other people’s stories, we’re looking forward to the new talent she will bring into the fold.”
Horgan previously had a first-look deal at Apple TV.

The AppleTV+ series Bad Sisters is wrapping up its second season and there hasn’t been any word about a renewal for Season 3. Fans looking for another black comedy starring Sharon Horgan as a protective older sister should check out This Way Up on Hulu. Just like on Bad Sisters, Horgan plays a complex, flawed character who sees her younger sister through a very difficult time. While Bad Sisters' Eva Garvey tries to save her sister from an abusive marriage, Horgan's character on This Way Up, Shona, is helping her sister Áine (series creator Aisling Bea) after a mental breakdown. Unlike Bad Sisters, Horgan didn’t develop or write on This Way Up. But, Bea's comedy style as both a showrunner and a co-lead is perfectly suited to Horgan's sensibilities. This Way Up has the same laugh-until-you-cry dark humor as Bad Sisters.

Nick Frost is taking it back to his horror comedy roots in the new trailer for his upcoming film, Get Away. Leaving the world of zombies behind and stepping into a supernatural and slasher vibe, the movie follows Frost as a husband and father who takes his family on a getaway to a desolate Swedish island that may have a serial killer stalking its residents. Helmed by Steffen Haars, the feature-length production is the latest to come from one of the founding members of the uber-popular Dutch comedy group known as New Kids. Joining Frost in the films leading cast and putting the ho-ho back in horror is a lineup that includes Aisling Bea (This Way Up), Sebastian Croft (How to Date Billy Walsh), Maisie Ayres (Criminal Record) and Eero Milonoff (Four Little Adults).

A new slasher comedy film is coming to Shudder in 2025 and even better, it's from writer Nick Frost, who fans likely know best from his work in the Cornetto trilogy starring alongside Simon Pegg. Frost has been in all three films, starting with Shaun of the Dead (which turned 20 this year!).
His next project, Get Away, is a Sweden-set slasher movie following the Smith family on a vacation that goes terribly wrong when they realize they're stuck on an island with a serial killer. So, in a way, it's kind of like an island-set Trap.
Previously titled Svalta, the new title is far more fitting, featuring a clever play on words, though Svalta is the title of the island where the family vacations.
According to Deadline, IFC Films and Shudder have picked up the streaming rights for the XYZ film-produced in North America. It will start streaming on Shudder sometime in 2025. For those unfamiliar,...

In the canon of unexpected streaming successes, Netflix‘s Baby Reindeer looms large as a particularly unlikely hit.
The seven-episode British series, created by and starring comedian Richard Gadd has taken the media world by storm. Per Netflix’s metrics, Baby Reindeer is on its way to becoming one of the most-watched shows in the streamer’s history. Audiences remain captivated by Gadd’s depiction of real life events – perhaps too captivated, as the internet continues its attempts to dox every actual person involved (Note: Stop doing that!)
Still, it’s not hard to see why Baby Reindeer has invoked such a passionate reaction in viewers. The story is an intensely personal one for Gadd and oftentimes, the more personal something is, the more universal its appeal becomes. Not everyone can directly relate to Gadd’s traumatic experience of being stalked, but everyone knows what pain, confusion, and fear looks like.

Máiréad Tyers’ first on-screen role straight out of drama school was in Kenneth Branagh’s “Belfast.” “You don’t really see me in the film at all,” she says. “[But] I’m so proud of it.” A year later, she wrapped her first leading role in U.K. Disney+ original comedy “Extraordinary.” In the show — basically a flatshare sitcom with a twist — Tyers plays 20-something Jen, who is messy, funny and the only person in the world without a superpower.
But Jen can also be selfish and occasionally obnoxious – mostly to her flatmates Carrie (Sofia Oxenham), Kash (Bilal Hasna) and, erm, Jizzlord (Luke Rollason) — and Tyers’ superpower is making her not just relatable, but likeable. So much so that the show, which was created and written by newcomer Emma Moran, has been renewed for a second season, which drops today on Disney+ and on Hulu in the U.S.

With the new series Colin From Accounts — streaming on Paramount+ following a Foxtel/Binge debut in its native Australia — creator/stars Patrick Brammall and Harriet Dyer have set themselves possibly one of the most difficult challenges in the history of romantic comedies.
How do you make a show in which, within the first five minutes, the main characters are responsible for running over an adorable dog and, by the end of eight episodes, have the audience liking those characters, if not necessarily rooting for their coupling?
The answer comes down to clever writing and the chemistry between Brammall and Dyer, who are married in addition to their collaborations here. Colin From Accounts never wholly shakes its “They ran over a dog!” bleakness — the dog, it should be emphasized clearly, is mostly Ok — nor does it wholly break out from the rom-com conventions it’s so keenly aware of. But it...

Last year, it was announced that Fighting with My Family co-stars Nick Frost and Lena Headey were going to reunite to work on the serial killer thriller Svalta, which was set to start filming in Finland soon. Well, the movie was shot in Finland and production recently wrapped, but Headey had to drop out of the project due to scheduling issues before it started rolling. Deadline reports that her character ended up being played by Aisling Bea, whose previous credits include This Way Up, Living with Yourself, and Home Sweet Home Alone.
Svalta was directed by Steffen Haars (New Kids Turbo) from a screenplay Frost wrote himself. The story follows a family on their summer vacation to a remote island where they discover a serial killer is on the loose. Unfortunately for them, the locals have no interest in helping the stranded family. The title is taken from the name of the fictional island.

R.E.M. are celebrating the 25th anniversary of their 11th studio album Up with a new remastered reissue, set for release on November 10th via Craft Recordings. It features a collection of bonus material including, but not limited to, an 11-song performance recorded at…the Party of Five set.
Party of Five was a pretty depressing late-1990s drama series that starred a Scream-era Neve Campbell, a pre-Lost Matthew Fox, and teen-superstar-in-the-making Jennifer Love Hewitt. It also gave R.E.M. their first appearance on a scripted TV show, which they filmed in 1999 at Los Angeles’ Palace Theatre in front of 175 fan club members. Their single at the time, the Up track “At My Most Beautiful,” was the one that made it into the Party of Five episode — but the members figured they’d use the studio to rehearse for their tour while they were at it.

Check out “Shining Vale” Season 2 images below and see more over on EW now.
In season one of “Shining Vale,” Pat (Cox) and Terry Phelps (Kinnear) cash in their life savings and move from a cramped Brooklyn apartment to an old Victorian mansion in Connecticut, as a last-ditch effort to save their marriage after Pat’s torrid affair with the handyman. Gaynor and Jake are pissed, and as disconnected as teenagers can get. Terry tries to rally the family, but the pushback is relentless.

Do people want honesty or better fiction? We've all heard the thought experiment of someone stepping out of the changing room, asking their spouse, "Does this make me look fat?" Most of us have probably experienced something similar, and if it's someone we love, we probably gravitate more toward kind flattery than cold objectivity. It's even trickier when we share a piece of ourselves, something we're passionate about, or our profession. When we invite others to judge us, how open is the invitation, really? Are we asking for facts or comfort? And how comfortable is a lie?
These are some of the questions asked by the new film You Hurt My Feelings, which even in May, sits confidently among the best films of the year. British actor Tobias Menzies, Emmy winner for Netflix’s “The Crown,” will next be seen in A24’s “You Hurt My Feelings,” directed by Nicole Holofcener.
In the film, which bowed at Sundance earlier this year, Menzies plays Don, a psychologist whose long-standing happy marriage to author Beth (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) is upended when she overhears his honest reaction to her latest book.
Menzies says that the initial brief provided by Holofcener was about a key aspect of his character – his insecurities about his looks and ageing. Going into the project, both Menzies and Holofcener, whose credits include comedy-drama films “Walking and Talking” (1996), “Friends with Money” (2006) and “Enough Said” (2013), were already keen to work with each other. The director cast the London-born star after watching “This Way Up,” the BAFTA-winning British television comedy in which he played straight man to stand-up comic Aisling Bea.

Sky and AMC have released a series of first-look images for the upcoming limited event series, ‘Mary & George’, starring Academy Award and BAFTA-winning actor Julianne Moore, alongside Nicholas Galitzine and Tony Curran.
The series is inspired by the unbelievable true story of Mary Villiers, who moulded her beautiful and charismatic son, George, to seduce King James VI of Scotland and I of England and become his all-powerful lover. Through outrageous scheming, the pair rose from humble beginnings to become the richest, most titled and influential players the English court had ever seen, and the King’s most trusted advisors. And with England’s place on the world stage under threat from a Spanish invasion and rioters taking to the streets to denounce the King, the stakes could not have been higher.

Taskmaster seems to be one of those magically perfect TV shows, but of course the root of its genius isn’t magic at all: it’s a whip-smart combination of Alex Horne’s original format, the comedic force of nature that is Greg Davies in the role of the Taskmaster, and relentlessly good casting.
As we’ve said before, there’s no such thing as a bad series of Taskmaster, and we’re sure Series 15 will be no different, but until it arrives, what should fans fill their time watching?
Take a look at these similarly delightful TV shows, including plenty featuring previous Taskmaster series alumni:
Man Down (Channel 4)

Editor's note: The below contains spoilers for Bad Sisters.Bad Sisters, debuting this past August, has proven itself to be Apple TV+'s most powerful dark comedy. Created by multitalented Irish actress, director, and producer Sharon Horgan (Catastrophe; This Way Up), it tells the story of five idiosyncratic sisters, orphaned young and living near each other on Ireland's gorgeous coastline. But the siblings — Eva Garvey (Horgan), Grace Williams (Anne-Marie Duff), Ursula Flynn (Eva Birthistle), Bibi Garvey (Sarah Greene), and Becka Garvey (Eve Hewson) — find their adult happiness overshadowed by the oppressive John Paul Williams (Claes Bang), Grace's quietly cruel and overbearing husband. The series delves into his longstanding emotional abuse, which, in turn, becomes the catalyst for Grace's four sisters to cook up various harebrained schemes to "help nature out" and bring about their middle-aged brother-in-law's demise.

She-Hulk star Ginger Gonzaga has such a keen fashion sense that her own clothing ended up in the MCU.
Gonzaga plays Jen Walters/She-Hulk’s (Tatiana Maslany) best friend and paralegal, Nikki Ramos, and besides being an ideal companion that everyone dreams of having, Nikki’s eye for fashion stands out in virtually every scene of hers. Gonzaga credits costume designer Ann Foley for being so open to collaboration as wardrobe is a key component of Gonzaga’s process as an actor.
“I didn’t feel comfortable as Nikki unless she was wearing something a little defiant or something that she shouldn’t be wearing at work or something that’s a little too high fashion and really racks up her credit cards,” Gonzaga tells The Hollywood Reporter.

Boris Johnson and his populist approach to politics have long divided people and observers in Britain and beyond.
Some celebrities have regularly criticized his style and agenda, including Brexit and immigration policy.
So it was no surprise that stars chimed in with their reactions when the 58-year-old confirmed on Thursday that he was stepping down as leader of the Conservative Party, but was planning to remain Prime Minister until a successor is picked.
Hugh Grant, who famously portrayed a fictional British prime minister in Love Actually, asked well-known anti-Brexit activist Steve Bray via Twitter to send off Johnson with the famous theme tune of sketch comedy show The Benny Hill Show, which aired on the BBC and later ITV between 1955 until 1989. “Do you by any chance have the Benny Hill music to hand?” Grant put in his request.
