The latest Splitgate 2 was well worth the wait, as the developers, 1047 Games, have introduced a new battle royale mode. It was definitely not on our 2025 bingo cards, especially when this category is already stacked with popular titles like Call of Duty, Pubg, and Apex Legends. Well, according to the CEO of 1047 Games, we needed a game that could revive the craze for the battle royale genre again.
As shown in the launch trailer, the new battle royale looks like Apex Legends, but with portals. While the concept seems intriguing at first glance, we may get one of this year’s best Fps games, courtesy of Splitgate 2.
Splitgate 2 unveils portal-powered battle royale mode
During the Summer Game Fest 2025, the Founder/CEO of 1047 Games, Ian Proulx, surprised the fans by adding a battle royale mode to the action-packed Splitgate 2. While it was a complete shocker, it got a decent reaction from the audience.

Fans of Prey and 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg might want to brace themselves — because some of the most intriguing projects he’s been linked to over the years may not be happening after all. In a new interview with Collider’s Steve Weintraubfor his new anthology movie, Predator: Killer of Killers, the filmmaker delivered a bittersweet update on the long-rumored Waterworld TV series and whether he’d ever tackle a Portal movie following his short film based on the video game.
First up: Waterworld. Yes, that Waterworld — the infamous 1995 post-apocalyptic epic starring Kevin Costner, which, in recent years, found a second life as a cult classic and theme park stunt show. Reports swirled back in 2021 that Trachtenberg was working on a follow-up series. But according to him, the reports were a little… premature. He told Collider:

Splitgate has quickly become one of the most popular shooter games on the market. The title can be best described as a free-to-play mash-up of Halo and Portal, introducing many new challenges and gameplay mechanics that help it stand out from the rest.
In a way, the progression of Splitgate to Splitgate 2 can be compared to that of Bungie’s Destiny 2 transition, which does bear with it a ton of similarities. In particular, both games managed to correct a fatal flaw that made them even more popular than the original.

Valve’s updates about their upcoming titles are so dry that even the slightest bit of news causes chaos in the gaming community. Fans of the critically-acclaimed developer survive on pure copium that maybe, just maybe, Valve will drop something in the future and quench their thirst.
For far too long, we have been fed the delusion that the next Half-Life is in development and nearly ready for release, yet we can’t help but get excited at even the smallest possibility that the rumor has some credibility. However, recent leaks have hinted at a dish that may be cooking inside Valve’s heavily guarded kitchens.

Can anyone say that Todd Howard isn’t one of the most legendary developers out there? He’s the man responsible for Bethesda’s smash hits, such as the Elder Scrolls and Fallout franchises. Seriously, if it weren’t for his works, the RPG genre would’ve probably never achieved the heights it has.
What might shock many is that Howard also finds inspiration in other games. That’s right, the Bethesda head actively studies competitor games and identifies their best mechanics to nail down for his upcoming games.
Howard has a deep appreciation for one game in particular because it tells a story that players don’t even realize is happening.
The game that has earned Todd Howard’s respect
One might assume that Howard spends most of his time playing the best RPGs out there to fuel the next Bethesda titles. However, he’s a very dedicated gamer...

Ever since the rumors of an Xbox handheld started spreading on the internet, it has become a hot topic of discussion in the gaming community. They were obviously rumors that were to be taken with a grain of salt, but now the case seems the opposite, and the Xbox-branded handheld is all but officially confirmed by the companies themselves.
The next hardware from Xbox is not a next-generation console or a mid-gen refresh similar to the PlayStation 5 Pro. Fortnite features a lot of exotic weapons and items, many of which come with quite a few special effects. For example, the Victory Crown is a rather common collectible that is handed out to players after they manage to win a match.
However, there do exist a few additional exotic items which are otherwise quite hard to obtain. One of these items is the Rift Launcher, a gun that is (as the name suggests) capable of opening up portals between two places.

The gun can be used strategically, and brings with it quite a few intriguing gameplay possibilities, but how can players unlock the same in Fortnite? More on the same below.

Mondays, am I right? First you wake up on an alien planet in an outpost that’s leaking oxygen, surrounded by the bloody remains of your co-workers who you probably killed. With Nintendo Switch 2 knocking on the door, credible insider claims two of the biggest franchises from Xbox will surface on the upcoming handheld console. In February 2024, Microsoft began a focused effort to get its first-party games on third-party platforms. Pentiment, Hi-Fi Rush, Grounded, and Sea of Thieves were the first four Xbox games to be made available on several platforms.

That was a good move considering the expansion of the platform with a potentially enlarged player base. But the recent report suggesting two very popular Microsoft franchises coming into the upcoming rival handheld console might not be a brave decision by the company, as Microsoft itself is working on a handheld device.

The CEO of PlayStation doesn't believe console gaming is dead, and neither should you. Falling console sales, the rapidly declining practice of console exclusivity, and the advent of cloud gaming have caused some players to revive a familiar argument: that the age of console gaming is well and truly over. There may be some merit to the argument, as there are some worrying trends running rampant in the industry. But console gaming as a whole is far from dead, and one of the industry's heaviest hitters is here to prove it.
In an interview with Famitsu, translated by MP1st, Sony Interactive Entertainment Platform Business Group's CEO Hideaki Nishino reaffirmed that console gaming is here to stay, at least in his business plan. Regardless of which direction the industry appears to be moving in, he said, "there is no doubt that home video game consoles will remain at the center...

In the handheld console market right now, the Steam Deck has become a household name. The console not only runs games via cloud streaming; you can also play games through its local storage as well, unlike the Ps Portal. And this unique feature keeps this console from Valve ahead of most of the contemporary handheld devices in the market.

However, two console giants, PlayStation and Xbox, are reportedly gearing up for handheld consoles, which might end the dominance of the Steam Deck in the market. That won’t be easy, but Valve’s device might fall short because of its anti-cheat policy.

First-person shooter fans got to enjoy a lot of amazing games in 2024, but 2025 looks even more stacked with the likes of The Outer Worlds 2 and Splitgate 2 launching throughout the year. There are also a lot of great-looking indies dropping, some of which have incredibly unique art styles that are sure to propel them to Goty status. Suffice it to say, Fps fans will be busy in 2025.
Of course, 2024's offerings were great too, including the surprise hit, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. In fact, some of the best open-world Fps games ever made dropped in 2024. Hopefully, some of the most anticipated Fps games of 2025 will end up being just as fondly remembered too. Fortunately, there's a very good chance of that happening, as many of them look incredible.

The following contains spoilers for Moana 2, now playing in theaters.
Moana 2 subtly hints at its big twist halfway through the movie, having Moana beat Maui in one key feat. The film’s beginning sets Moana to become Motunui's Tautai leader, a connector of the entire sea — making the storm god Nalo particularly keen on destroying her. Though this is a bigger ascension than her chief title in the first installment, the Disney sequel offers a twist, giving the Moana 2 character a role that extends beyond her people and to the realm of the gods.
Moana 2’s reviews praise the sequel for building on what came before and successfully developing Moana’s growth, as she now understands the stakes of her dreams and honors her responsibility to her island. Accordingly, Moana 2’s ending sees the leader sacrifice her life so that her people are connected to...

In the world of consoles, PlayStation holds a heavy ground. Despite being underestimated in the area of subscription services against the Xbox Game Pass, Sony’s console has always leaped over its arch-rival because of its superior hardware specifications and bigger exclusive library.

There's no doubt that Sony's PlayStation Plus subscription service has proven to be a hit with players and a fierce competitor to Microsoft's own Xbox Game Pass. The ability for players to gain instant access to a slew of PlayStation's best and most popular titles only increases the system's popularity as the subscription service provides easier access to these sensational gaming experiences. Yet, there's one aspect in which Ps Plus pales in comparison to its competitor: cloud streaming.
The inclusion of Xbox Cloud Gaming in Game Pass is a huge benefit to members of the service. The ability to play from a huge selection of stellar games from a range of compatible smart devices allows for greater accessibility, as it removes the need to purchase a physical console, thereby making Game Pass a more affordable investment than Ps Plus, which was restricted to PlayStation consoles. Berlinale director Tricia Tuttle has voiced support for the festival’s 2024 Best Documentary winner No Other Land and dismissed suggestions that comments made by co-directors Yuval Abraham and Basel Adra at the awards ceremony were antisemitic.
The festival posted the message from Tuttle on its Instagram account as the film begins its theatrical release in Germany, which has reignited local debate around the filmmakers and their work.
The co-directors – whose film documents the destruction of Palestinian villages in the West Bank by Israel – were publicly accused of antisemitism by Berlin’s mayor last February after Abraham criticized a “situation of apartheid” in Israel and called for a ceasefire in Gaza in his acceptance speech.
“No Other Land won the Berlinale Documentary Award, and also the Panorama Audience Award in February 2024. Israeli/Palestinian directing collective Basel Adra, Hamdan Ballal, Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor have crafted a frank, incisive, powerful...

Baldur's Gate 3 has been a treat for Dungeons & Dragons fans from the get-go, but thanks to opportunities introduced by its most recent update, it's on a path to becoming something even more special. Patch 7 for the game added a modding toolkit that makes custom content easier than ever before, and there's already been a lot of interesting content created in the toolkit. Although the toolkit still comes with some major restrictions, officially disallowing map editing and custom campaigns, some community solutions have bypassed these barriers to make it even more versatile and powerful.
Thanks to the new modding possibilities, Reddit user Foreign-Character-29 made a Baldur's Gate 3 recreation of the Yawning Inn from DnD, and the results are seriously impressive. Five screenshots show off details of a large taproom and everything that fills it, including the 40-foot well that grants adventurers access to the Undermountain beneath.

As anticipation builds for MachineGames’ upcoming Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, fans have been eagerly dissecting every morsel of information about the game. However, a recent interview with the game’s design and creative directors at Gamescom 2024 has raised some eyebrows—particularly when it comes to the studio’s choice to make the game a first-person experience.

The X-Men prove to be no slouches at fending off Marvel's vampiric Blood Hunt, which mutant hero Magik proves with aplomb as she pushes her mutant gifts to their fullest potential. Using her teleporting "stepping discs" to save a village of human prisoners from an ancient vampire and his minions, Magik takes a page out of the famous video game Portal's playbook to put the kibosh on these bloodsuckers.
X-Men: Blood Hunt - Magik #1 written by Ashley Allen, with art by Jess Hervs, and Yen Nitro, covers Magik's time during the Blood Hunt as she hunts for a vampire nest in Siberia. In the process, she uses a technique that seems to have been inspired by Portal, the classic Valve puzzle-and-platform game. Placing portals directly above and below her, Magik throws herself into freefall to build up momentum before launching herself toward her foe at terminal velocity a move that comes straight from Portal.

As Half Life 2 approaches its 20th anniversary, there is new speculation that not Half Life 3, but something else is coming. While rumors about Half Life 3 have been heard for years, it seems Valve might have another trick up its sleeve to celebrate this milestone.
A recent update to Half Life 2’s Steam backend has sparked speculation that a major overhaul or re-release could be in the works, much like the one the original Half-Life received for its 25th anniversary last year.
Half Life 3 May Be Coming Soon, But What Does This Mean For Half Life 2
On August 17, 2024, Valve quietly added a “test” branch to Half Life 2’s backend on Steam. By itself, this might not seem particularly noteworthy, but the timing has gotten fans talking. With the 20th anniversary of Half Life 2 just around the corner in November, this update feels eerily similar to the one Valve released for the original Half Life last year.

An occasional look at the surprising creative outlets of members of the Hollywood community.
Producer Denise Di Novi has been a fixture in Hollywood since she first arrived on the scene with Heathers, the pitch-black comedy that became one of the breakout hits at Sundance when that festival was establishing itself. She has followed with credits including Edward Scissorhands, Message In A Bottle, James and the Giant Peach, The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Batman Returns, Little Women, Ed Wood and many others.
Di Novi will reveal another side of herself when she unveils Portal, an exhibit of her paintings beginning August 10 at the Honarker Foundation Gallery in Laguna Beach. The exhibition runs through September 14.
She is passionate about her art, though she cannot really describe her style, because she isn’t trained in the traditional manner. It is just something that bubbles up and comes out of her.

Every Marvel fan is currently busy binging on the X-Men ’97 series. The premise of the animated series picks up where the 1990s X-Men: The Animated Series ends. The MCU series is created by Beau DeMayo. So far, seven episodes have dropped on Disney+ Hotstar. In the latest episode, ‘Bright Eyes’, the team has brought back Steve Rogers, aka Captain America.
In MCU movies, Chris Evans, who played Steve Rogers, is probably dead after Avengers: Endgame. But seeing the Cap return in X-Men ’97 made the Marvel fans happy. However, not everyone is pleased with the way they treated him in the animated series. Fans are unhappy with how the makers showed Steve’s alignment towards the government when he stood against their wrongdoings in movies. It’s a scene between Rogue (voiced by Lenore Zann) and Cap (Josh Keaton) that has got the reactions.

TikTok just held its biggest creator summit yet, and used the event to announce it’s making two big changes in monetization: first, it’s bringing the Creativity Program out of beta, and second, it’s expanding Live Subscriptions beyond live content.
The Creativity Program, as you probably know, is TikTok’s replacement for the $1 billion let’s-get-creators-paid fund it established in 2020. It first introduced the Creativity Program around this time last year, paying out only on videos longer than 60 seconds.
As TikTok revealed at its For Creators: Future Formats Summit today in Los Angeles, that stipulation is remaining as the program comes out of beta, but one thing that isn’t staying is the name. TikTok has gone from Creator Fund to Creativity Program and now to the (possibly permanent?) moniker Creator Rewards Program.
The Rewards Program will release in the coming weeks “with some improvements,” TikTok says, without...

The PlayStation portal has been around for just over two months now, the remote play device has been one of their most successful launches in recent memory becoming the fourth best-selling system in the United States for gaming, the system itself only allows players to connect to an already powered on PlayStation 5 that has a stable network connection.
However, this could all be about to change with a new hack released for the device this week that will elevate the portal to a whole new level. This hack may just make the device very much worth the money for those who love more than just their current PlayStation library
So what is this new hack for the Playstation portal? An X user confirmed in a post that Ppsspp is now native on the portal

Canceling the PS4 to PS5 save data transfer is possible but not recommended due to the risk of data corruption. Turning off the PS5 during the transfer will restart the process, allowing the transfer to be skipped. To cancel the transfer on the PS4, shut it down completely and start it up in safe mode to "Rebuild Database" and preserve data.
The backward compatibility of the PlayStation 5 is a major point of its appeal, but transitioning over to the new console from the PS4 can be a confusing process with a lot of questions. This is especially true for players attached to accounts they've been using for a while, like a Psn profile. Luckily, for those coming to a PS5 from a PS4, the new console will display a prompt asking about save data transfer during its initial setup. This process isn't always smooth sailing, however, which can raise issues of its own.

Several X-Men-related characters seem set to appear in Deadpool 3, and more than one will likely fight with Wade Wilson. Characters like Blink, Domino, and Colossus have unique abilities that can give them an advantage over Deadpool. Characters with strong telepathic powers, such as Jason Stryker and Professor X, could potentially overpower Deadpool's chaotic mind.
Several of Fox's X-Men characters are confirmed or rumored to be appearing in Deadpool 3, the only MCU movie of 2024, which could see them taking on (and possibly beating) Deadpool in a fight. While Deadpool 3 is bound to depict Wolverine and Deadpool locked in a brutal to-and-fro as they struggle to overcome identical healing factors, there are plenty of other X-Men characters that would have a distinct edge over the Merc' with a Mouth. Part of what makes the mutants' inclusion in the MCU so exciting is the sheer breadth of their powers, with some being practically unbeatable.

Valve is notorious for never making a third game in any of its beloved series, but that hasn't stopped the games' communities from picking up the slack. Portal 2 is set to receive Portal: Revolution, a prequel mod with a new story, puzzles, and mechanics. The mod promises a runtime of 5–8 hours, almost matching the average time it takes to beat Portal 2.
Acclaimed developer Valve is well-known for its tendency not to revisit franchises after the second entry, but that doesn't mean that a game like Portal 2 can never be expanded upon. Portal 2 serves as a model sequel in many ways, taking the original game's interesting concept and story and expanding on it across the board without losing the fundamental ingenuity. It's hard to imagine a great way to revisit the Aperture Science Enrichment Center in Chell's shoes after the credits of Portal 2 roll, but there's still room for interesting surrounding stories in the facility.
