After the star studded but off brand reboot, it's great to have our actual chucky back with the creators and some original cast back too. It's weird how the show goes from cheesy to serious but chucky as an anti hero is a great take. The humor was always the most important part to me and I'm glad it's still intact. Also nick's touch can be seen in it too but not so heavy handedly.
This show has had a strong start giving us our original Chucky the one we all love and our scared of. I will say the do have a few reasons it's lower than expected. First the characters are very annoying most of them at least will that make theirs deaths more enjoyable, yes. Will it make up for listening to them, no. Again start of season so their could be more development but so far each one is just rude and annoying for no reason and even if they do their not funny and it doesn't make them evil. Doesn't help it's some of the worse dialogue I've heard making it harder to pay attention. Will all this saying I want to mention I have nothing against the actors and they all played their part great. I should add I'm very disappointed with the first kill although creative I want to see burn marks, eyes blowing up, blood pouring out of their mouth something a little black eye dose not satisfy my taste for horror and certainly is not what Chucky is famous for. I hope to see some real carnage later on. As I end this I will say although this seems like a negative review it is not this movie has a lot of things going for it and I just wanted to highlight some areas of improvement. With that I can't wait to see more. And I can't wait for next week for a little more playtime...
I never knew that this show was on tv. Again I have to say that bad promotions on horror shows will do that. I was curious about this show when I saw a clip of it on youtube. Now I am hooked. I never thought a tv show about a creepy doll would work well in tv. But this show is really good. I also find it very funny that Jennifer Tilly is in this show acting as Tiffany and acting as her self. I find it very clever. Also I like that each season to different story lines. I also enjoy the music it can sound haunting or sad but it puts the mood in each episode of the different story time lines. I am very happy watching this show.
This 2021 series "Chucky" is such a blast. Especially if you enjoyed the original "Child's Play" movies.
I have to admit that when I stumbled upon this series, then I hadn't actually heard about it being made, so it was a surprise to find this. Needless to say that I had to watch it, as I have seen all of the movies in the franchise and always found the movies enjoyable.
And "Chucky" is a blast. I have to say that. Especially since it is so much in tune with the spirit and the essence of the original movies, and let's just completely forget about that abysmal 2019 remake. And it was such a thrill to have Brad Dourif return to do the voice of Chucky, as there simply can be none other to voice that psychotic murdering doll. And the series also have the likes of Jennifer Tilly, Devon Sawa and Lexa Doig on the cast list, so that was quite nice.
The storyline told in the 2021 series is good, as it is a mixture of the old classics and spruced up with up-to-date contents, for better or worse. I have to say that it is sort of wearing thin that everything that is churned out from Hollywood now needs to please that whole Woke movement. Yeah, even in here, you have teen gay romance. I have nothing against gay, but it just becomes sort of a drag that is has to be forced in to be as politically correct as possible.
Visually then "Chucky" is a joy to watch, as it is every bit as bloody and gruesome as the movies, and has all the wonderful witty banter from Chucky.
I am rating this 2021 series a well-deserved seven out of ten stars.

3 episodes in and I'm probably about to give up on this honestly. Started ok with a first episode that's enjoyable. And the doll looks great in general, but it's been almost unwatchable after that pilot. Other than being tame for TV, it's just downright boring most of the time. Some episodes even have zero or maybe 1 kill in them and consist of just people talking. When they do die, it's mostly just random side character who was introduced 5 mins ago usually.
The gore is neutered, chuckys plan makes no sense (why is he helping this kid at all or trying to get him to kill people - he gets busted and chucky is in an evidence locker sooo...?), the characters are so over the top as to not even belong in reality, it's clearly some old man trying to write dialogue for current teenage characters, they forced Dourif's daughter into a character for some reason even though she's awful and couldn't save the series in those mediocre cult or curse movies, etc.
This is basically just trying to get tweens into the child's play franchise, and I don't know why. It's all the worst parts of curse and cult of chucky thrown together with some CW type garbage, and made boring and episodic for mainstream TV.
The less said about the editing the better. Episode 2 was seriously hard to follow because obviously scenes were cut to fit into the hour time slot - stuff made no sense and we were constantly wondering if we had missed a scene somehow. But no, it was just legitimately that poorly put together.
If you want to see a teenage drama TV show with little sprinklings of a chucky doll cursing here and there, this will fit the bill. Otherwise just skip this if you're a fan of the original movies...
