Image
Thug Life X Review: Kamal Haasan’s Film Opens To Mixed Review!(Photo Credit –YouTube)

Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam reunited after 38 long years for Thug Life. The gangster action drama has been released in theatres today, i.e., June 5, 2025. The early reviews are in and unfortunately, not very favorable. Scroll below to know what the netizens are saying on X (formerly Twitter).

Thug Life on-going controversy

Thug Life fell into the lap of controversy days before its theatrical release. It all happened over Kamal Haasan’s alleged scandalous remark, which claimed, “Kannada is born out of Tamil.” He was advised by the Karnataka High Court to either retract his statement or issue a public apology. But the Tamil superstar stood by his remarks, clarifying it was made without malice, and decided not to release his film in the state.

Amid the negativity, Thug Life has opened to mixed reviews,...

Image
The next Evil Dead movie is officially a go at Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema. The companies have announced that the Evil Dead Rise follow-up will be released in theaters in Summer 2026.

Per Deadline, the next Evil Dead movie is scheduled to hit theaters on July 24, 2026. Additionally, Dune: Part Two actress Souheila Yacoub — who played Shishakli, a Fremen warrior and Chani's friend, in the 2024 movie — has been announced as the star of the horror movie. Yacoub's other film and television credits include the 2019 miniseries Savages, the 2018 horror film Climax, the 2023 drama film Making Of, and the 2024 comedy horror film The Balconettes. While the Dune franchise is set to continue with a third movie, an adaptation of the novel Dune: Messiah, Yacoub is not expected to return as Shishakli, given her character's death in Part Two.

Nell Fisher, Gabrielle Echols, Alyssa Sutherland, and Morgan Davies in Evil Dead Rise (2023)
In the build-up to the release of Evil Dead Rise (read our review right Here) in 2023, Evil Dead franchise rights holders Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell, and Rob Tapert let it be known that they were already looking forward to producing more entries in the series, with Campbell revealing they were hoping to make a new sequel / spin-off every two or three years. Last year, they proved their commitment to this idea by hiring Sébastien Vaniček, who made his feature directorial debut on the French horror film Vermin, a.k.a. Infested, to write and direct a new installment in the franchise. And now the project has a cast member: Deadline reports that Souheila Yacoub, a Swiss former rhythmic gymnast who won the Miss Suisse Romande beauty pageant before getting her acting career started, has signed on to star in the film. James Bond's First Filmed Appearance Was Nearly Unrecognizable
Image
There are certain characters in pop culture who, no matter the actor portraying them, conjure up a particular look and feeling about them when they're thought of or talked about. For instance, the general public image of Batman is someone in a cape and cowl who broods about while fighting crime, a persona that dominates despite the gulf of difference between Adam West and Christian Bale's screen portrayals of the Caped Crusader. James Bond is undoubtedly such a character; while he's only been played by six different actors during his 63 years on cinema screens — and these actors all brought something so unique to their portrayals that they're frequently ranked against each other in order of personal preference — there still exists a consistency to Bond's pop culture persona.

The reason for this is actually a fairly direct one. When Albert R. "Cubby" Broccoli and Harry Saltzman formed Eon Productions in...

10 Naruto Arcs With the Best Fights, Ranked
Image
The legendary shonen anime Narutopacks plenty of action, drama, worldbuilding, and comedy in each major story arc, but if anime fans focus entirely on the battles, then some arcs are definitely stronger than others. Anime fans will agree Naruto has excellent fights by any standard, but even so, not all Naruto arcs are truly equal to each other. Filler arcs might not even be counted by some fans, for example, and some arcs in Naruto Shippuden were surprisingly forgettable in the long run.

Some arcs in Naruto certainly have the biggest and most explosive battles, but scale alone does not make any story arc's battles rank among the best in the anime. Naruto fans also look for essential factors like the character drama or themes involved, clever and smart moves, unique or creative exchanges of jutsu, and personal stakes involved. The combination of all helps even some of the smaller,...

Will ‘Kingdom’ Season 3 Ever Happen at Netflix? New Interview Gives Hope More Is Coming
Image
Picture: Ju Ji Hoon in Kingdom – Netflix

It has been nearly five years since the second season of Kingdom premiered on Netflix, and there is still no indication of when we might get a third season. The cast, including the lead actor Ju Ji Hoon, has been busy with other projects, and the head writer is also busy, which means we won’t see a third season in 2025 or even 2026. However, recent comments from Ju Ji Hoon have raised hopes for a potential revival of Kingdom soon.

Debuting on Netflix in January 2019, zombie horror Kingdom was an incredible addition. Praised extensively for its story, costume design, make-up, cinematography, acting, and more, fans were just as ravenous as the undead for more Kingdom. The second season laid the groundwork for even more Kingdom, and over a year later, in July 2021, its sidequel, Kingdom: Ashin of the North, was released. However, since...

10 Terrifying Horror Movies You Need to Mentally Prepare For
Image
Horror movie fans are always looking for the next truly terrifying cinematic experience. Of course, not every kind of scare works for every viewer, and some horror subgenres that leave some of the audience paralyzed can fall flat to another part of the audience. While jumpscares feel necessary to some, for example, they completely ruin the experience for others, who prefer well-crafted psychological tension. Yet, in every horror subgenre, what seems to truly push a movie from "scary" into "terrifying" territory for most people is when it makes the audience feel extremely uncomfortable.

Excessive gore naturally causes discomfort, but films that depict oddily specific graphic violence stand out among the vast catalog of bloody horror films out there. Within examples of gore-y films, Martyrs takes the violence to a surrealist extreme, while Angst and Backcountry highly contrast with it for being realistic and based on true events. Either way, they...

‘B Is For Bachata’ Review: An Educational Short Film On Preserving Culture Through Music & Dance
Image
Growing up with Bollywood and Hollywood films, music and dance have always seemed like an integral aspect of our lives. But due to the nature of the musical sequences in those movies, those songs and choreographies have always been used to celebrate something or the other in real life. Sure, we’ve had narratives centered around dance where someone has broken the shackles of poverty or mediocrity by becoming proficient in that art form, e.g., Step Up. We’ve had stories about a skilled artist using their expertise to save their dance school or rejuvenate the spirit of their hometown, e.g., Aaja Nachle. And there have also been tales about using dance to induce horror, e.g., Suspiria and Climax. However, very rarely have we come across films where dance has been used to cherish the genre it stems from while also preserving the history and culture that’s associated with it.

Three Women Season 1 Report Card: Dissecting The Emotional and Sexy Starz Drama
Image
If you’ve watched the Starz drama, you were probably blown away by how well showrunner Laura Eason adapted Lisa Taddeo’s novel. I love book-to-screen adaptations, and Three Women was one of the best I’ve watched.

While Shailene Woodley and Betty Gilpin headlined the series, DeWanda Wise and Gabrielle Creevy also gave powerful performances.

Since its beginning, Three Women has kept viewers engrossed with Lina, Sloane, Maggie, and Gia’s relationship journeys and sexual awakenings. This series features quality writing, impressive acting, and beautiful cinematography.

It was challenging to create this report card because so much of the season was well done. However, after careful consideration, I’m happy with these results.

Which American Actor Was Actually Signed to Play James Bond?
Image
Movie Legend: An American actor was cast to play James Bond, and even signed an official studio contract!

A key aspect of the iconic film, Back to the Future, is that when Marty McFly sees his mother as a teenager, he learns that all of these rules and beliefs that she had repeated to him his whole life were mostly just hogwash, and that his mother didn't believe in any of them when she was actually his age. That is a powerful lesson about how often "traditions" weren't actually traditions until they were long divorced from the original intent.

I mention this because of the longstanding tradition that James Bond can never be played by an American actor in an "official" Eon Productions James Bond film. Bond has been played by a Scottish actor, an Irish actor, an Australian actor, and three English actors, but never an American. That has...

Review: Smile 2 is a Scarier, Grander Powerhouse Sequel
Image
What are you looking for in a sequel? Dependable familiarity or narrative evolutions? Parker Finn's Smile 2 is a sharper, meaner, and despicably addictive amplification of Smile that doesn’t tamper with what works. Finn's execution of trauma-driven haunts is an upgrade across the board, albeit recognizable. It's funnier, flashier, scarier, and doesn't feign complacency even for a millisecond. Smile 2 is an invigoration of exposed demonic templates (typed by someone lukewarm on Finn's successful original). Move over, Lady Raven; Skye Riley's taking center stage.

Naomi Scott is a knockout as pop music megastar Skye Riley, an ex-addict who's just announced her hotly anticipated "Welcome Back" tour. She's a sober and rebranded shell of herself but pushes forward, driven by the pressures of not letting down her ravenous fans, profiting record executives (Raúl Castillo), or supportive loved ones. Skye's mother and acting manager, Elizabeth (Rosemarie DeWitt), keeps a...

‘The Idol’ Choreographer Breaks Down Lily-Rose Depp’s Epic ‘I’m Just a Freak’ Dance and the Influences Behind That Disastrous Music Video
Image
To craft the now iconic dance behind “World Class Sinner/I’m A Freak” from HBO’s “The Ido,l” choreographer Nina McNeely first needed to understand the root of pop star and musical sensation Jocelyn’s (played by Lily-Rose Depp).

“She’s a former child star. She was at the pinnacle of her fame, then went through a rough patch and had a mental breakdown. And in the rehearsal scene, that’s her big comeback; she’s rehearsing for her big comeback, so there’s an insane amount of pressure on her,” McNeely explained in Variety’s Artisans series, presented by HBO. “She had canceled tours; she needs to get that money back. She needs to top the charts, and she’s also having that rehearsal in the midst of a scandal.”

Visual artist and dance legend McNeely has worked with Major Lazer, Björk, the Foo Fighters, and (of course) The Weeknd.

10 Horror Movie Threats That Could Actually Happen
Image
Horror films like Contagion and The Purge tap into real-life fears, sparking nationwide conversations on the potential for such events. Cujo and The Shallows prey on realistic fears of animal attacks, showcasing worst-case scenarios for viewers to feel truly terrified. Movies like Climax and Barbarian delve into real-life threats like drink spiking and the unexpected dangers of renting through platforms like Airbnb.

Horror films have the unique ability to connect with their audiences on an entirely different level, using fear and disturbing themes to reach them. It's important that audiences can latch onto the characters and feel empathy for them, but monsters and supernatural things aren't always relatable. Movies are somehow even scarier when they're entirely realistic, featuring a story or element that can happen in real life.

From apocalyptic themes based on science like in Contagion, to terrifying government decisions like in The Purge, many horror films address the...
