Doomfans have been on a roll. After years of dormancy, the landmark First-Person Shooter (Fps) came back with all guns blazing in 2016 through the franchise's universally-acclaimed return to form, Doom (2016). Then, against all odds, id Software surpassed their already great game with the even better Doom: Eternal. The 2020 sequel is set to be followed up by the highly anticipated Doom: The Dark Ages, which is coming out as soon as May 2025.
Because of this impressive roll, it's easy (or even preferable) to forget that Doom didn't always have it this good. Nothing embodies the franchise's awkward entrance into the 2000s better than the Doom film, which was so bad that its stars, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Rosamund Pike, feel embarrassed about starring in it. This failure didn't stop filmmakers from trying, as seen with the 2019 direct-to-video soft reboot, Doom: Annihilation.Although it has its own flaws, Doom: Annihilation is still everything Doom (2005) should've been.

The Fallout TV series has proven to be a rather massive hit for Amazon with its fresh take on the post-apocalyptic wasteland that still manages to retain the themes, absurdity, and magic of the source material.

For Bethesda, though, this is a big win, given its rough history with live-action adaptations. But with one of its IPs finding its way to the screen so successfully, we feel that it’s the perfect time to resurrect another series, one that desperately needs to be redeemed in the realm of prestige media.

A new episode of the Revisited video series has just been released, and with this one we’re looking back at the 2005 video game adaptation Doom (watch it Here) – a movie that didn’t spawn the sort of franchise the game did, but there was a second movie that was released direct-to-video in 2019. Oddly, the title of that movie was Doom: Annihilation, just like the original video game adaptation of Mortal Kombat received a sequel called Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. That’s a story for another time – for now, you can hear all about Doom by checking out the video embedded above.
Directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak from a screenplay that was crafted by David Callaham and Wesley Strick, Doom has the following synopsis: Something has gone wrong at a remote scientific research station on Mars. All research has ceased. Communication has failed. And the messages that do get through are less than comforting.

Nightdive Studios recently released some new screenshots for The Thing: Remastered and fans are hyped, to say the least. This update arrives as the original game celebrated its 22nd Anniversary.
Fans of the 2002 cult classic are eagerly awaiting the remaster, which promises to bring the chilling experience of survival horror to a new generation. With a release date set for later in 2024, the wait is almost over.
The Thing: Remastered Might Just Be The Thing You Need
The Thing: Remastered is a faithful reimagining of the original third-person survival horror game that was itself inspired by John Carpenter’s iconic 1982 film, The Thing. In this game, players step into the role of Captain J.F. Blake, leader of a U.S. Army Special Forces team, sent to investigate the horrific events at a remote Antarctic research facility.

Doom has made a strong appearance at QuakeCon, with plenty for fans to look forward to. Updated Doom & Doom 2 versions announced with expanded multiplayer support, a new story episode, and an updated soundtrack. Doom Eternal is getting official mod support with a public beta of idStudio for creators and a PC mod preview for players.
As QuakeCon begins, Doom fans have plenty to look forward to. Aside from the general hype for the next mainline release, Doom: The Dark Ages, which was announced at the June 2024 Xbox Showcase and will be launching sometime next year, featuring the Doom Slayer in a medieval-type setting equipped with an array of weapons that introduce more modern advancements to this era, id Software also announced updated versions of Doom and Doom 2 with expanded multiplayer support, a completely new official story episode with new weapons and demons, and a newly-updated soundtrack. The world of gaming is no stranger to unexpected twists. But this new one is a hard hitter for PlayStation fans who are still reeling from the cancellation of The Last of Us Online. The once-promised PS4-exclusive WiLD which was first announced in 2014 has officially been shelved.
The game was intended to be an ambitious open-world survival game, offering a vast map comparable to the size of Europe, where players could control both prehistoric humans and animals.
The Last of Us is The Least of Our Worries With This News
WiLD was the brainchild of Michel Ancel, the legendary game designer behind Rayman and Beyond Good and Evil. When the game was announced at Gamescom in 2014, it was met with great enthusiasm. The concept was groundbreaking: a survival game set in the Neolithic era where players could not only control humans but also animals.

New Doom + Doom 2 bundle includes a brand-new official story episode with new demons and weapons. Crossplatform multiplayer for up to 16 players is supported, with all previously released bonus content included in the collection. Doom + Doom 2 is available on all modern platforms, running at 60 Fps in 1080p resolution minimum.
Few games can claim both the influence and staying power of the iconic, foundational Fps, Doom, and even 31 years after its initial release, official new content has been released. Doom wasn't necessarily the first Fps game, but alongside Wolfenstein, it shaped the genre's landscape in a way that arguably wouldn't be matched until 2001's Halo: Combat Evolved. Even modern games often struggle with long-term development support, but a brand-new episode has just arrived alongside a new Doom bundle.

Expect a slew of new medieval-inspired weapons in Doom: The Dark Ages, from a revamped super shotgun to a skull-crushing minigun. Doom: The Dark Ages is likely to feature a variety of melee weapons, including the return of the Crucible. The trailer teases the Doom Slayer getting to use at least a couple vehicles and mounts.
Doom: The Dark Ages was announced recently at the Xbox Games Showcase, accompanied by a crunchy trailer that introduces many new and outrageous weapons to the Slayers arsenal. As the title suggests, the theme this time around is everything medieval, though DOOMs interpretation predictably has more in common with dark fantasy and metal album covers than it does with smallpox and Chaucer. Considering all the vicious weapons on display, from rail-guns and chainsaw shields to skull-spitting miniguns, hells demons will likely have a poorer life expectancy than even the sickliest tenth-century peasant once the player shows up.

Cold Meat took No. 9 on the Netflix global Top 10 chart. The indie 2024 survival movie was watched for 5.8 million hours in a single week. Cold Meat was perfectly poised to become a Netflix hit after the success of Society of the Snow.
Cold Meat has become a global Netflix hit. A co-production between the United Kingdom and Canada, Cold Meat is a snowy survival thriller movie along the lines of The Mountain Between Us and 2010's Frozen, but with a supernatural twist. It follows a man who rescues a waitress from an abusive ex, only to end up trapped in his broken-down car in a snowy ravine, fighting for survival against a cannibalistic spirit from the forest. The movie, which had a limited theatrical release in February 2024, stars Downton Abbey's Allen Leech and Doom: Annihilation's Nina Bergman.

The next Doom game may be called Doom: The Dark Ages and explore a medieval setting. This brings it more in line with the inspirations behind id Software's Quake and Hexen. Doom: The Dark Ages could take place on Doom Eternal's Argent D'Nur.
The Doom franchise hasn't been afraid to innovate over the years, but there's one yet-unexplored direction that the next game could finally be going in. A big part of Doom's appeal is a sense of consistent momentum and forward progression, an ideal first defined in 1993 with the original game's lightning-fast gameplay and revolutionary engine. If the gameplay innovation ever halted, Doom would lose a lot of its appeal, but there are other ways to pivot that don't involve that kind of stagnation.
The idea that a new Doom game is coming soon has been picking up a lot of traction thanks to recent leaks and reports surrounding an upcoming title.

FBI Agent Victoria Travers seems to be some kind of adrenaline junkie. She has a habit of doing things her own way, risks be damned. And after once again bringing a suspect in without waiting for backup her boss Lockwood tells her she’s taking a vacation whether she likes it or not. Judging by the way she calls him a son of a bitch we can assume she doesn’t like it.
For reasons of budget, the film’s not Victoria’s, she, along with her husband Steve and their daughter Juliette (Alma Petra Vago) decide Romania is the perfect place to take a vacation. Except it’s not much of a vacation because almost immediately after they arrive she spots wanted criminal John Slater.

Every Doom game has been a friend to modders, which is part of the reason that the franchise remains so enduringly popular. The modding scenes for Doom and Doom 2 are still active decades down the line, ensuring that fans of the demonic shooter will never run out of maps to massacre hellspawn in. Doom 3, like its counterparts, is no stranger to modding, but it's also one of the more controversial entries in the franchise, which has lead modders to take the game in a number of wildly different directions.

Soon we’re going to be watching Zack Snyder leave behind the quest for a “grown-up” superhero movie and return to his old playground, the zombie movie. Army of the Dead looks like a huge amount of fun and leaves us wondering why nobody has made a zombie heist movie before, but one of the plot details that has leaked about the film is that Area 51 plays a significant role.
This suggests that the zombie plague may be extraterrestrial in origin. Like most subversions of the zombie apocalypse genre (although Army of the Dead promises a much smaller and more contained “apocalypse” so that all that cash they steal is still worth something) this is actually a plot twist you can trace back to the earliest roots of the genre.
In Night of the Living Dead, the zombie apocalypse is the result of strange radiation emerging from a probe that has returned from Venus.

Exclusive: Amer Chadha-Patel (Doom: Annihilation) has landed a male lead opposite Ellie Bamber, Ruby Cruz and Erin Kellyman in Willow, Disney+ and Lucasfilm’s upcoming TV series follow-up to the 1988 fantasy movie, with the film’s star Warwick Davis reprising his title role, I have learned. Lucasfilm declined comment.

The Meg 2 director Ben Wheatley has shared some of his cinematic desires beyond the giant shark/Jason Statham sequel, with the filmmaker revealing that he would love to helm an adaptation of the video game series, Doom. In fact, despite the well-known trend of video game adaptations being, well, terrible, Wheatley has his eyes on a few of them.
"Video games and films are so intertwined, aren't they? It's like because they feed backwards and forwards in terms of their referencing, it's tricky. And the things that you think are original about the games are from films often, and so when you take away the interactive element of it, there's not much left to it, you know? I still want to make a Doom film, though. I know it's been done but come on. Or Counter-Strike, that would be the one I'd like to make."

Doom is a hot property right now. The 2016 game received near-universal critical acclaim by boiling the series back to its hi-octane, demon-smashing, heavy metal roots. Its sequel, Doom Eternal, was just released and while it wasn’t received quite as positively as its predecessor, it still kicks an unbelievable amount of ass.
All that on top of video game movies finally proving successful means that Universal is reportedly considering a big push for the franchise. This will include a new film, set to be a reboot, and now, according to our sources – the same ones who told us Extraction is getting a sequel and another Scream movie is in the works – a tie-in TV show.
Admittedly, Doom doesn’t have a great track record when it comes to adaptations. The 2005 film was a stinker and last year’s Doom: Annihilation was such garbage that the makers of the game released...

It looks like Universal are going to just pretend last year’s Doom: Annihilation didn’t happen. That movie was supposed to course-correct from the 2005 Doom, which was also not much cop. But hey, third time’s the charm right? Yes, it seems that the studio is finally planning to do it right, as instead of trying to crowbar the basics of the game’s setting into a crappy Aliens ripoff, they’re just going to do a big screen adaptation of the original.
Sources close to Wgtc – the same ones who told us a new Scream movie is in development and Han was returning in Fast & Furious 9 – have informed us that the wheels are turning on a new project based on the hit video game series that’ll be entirely separate from the previous two. While it’s taken some time for it to rip and tear its way back into the spotlight, the Doom franchise has re-emerged as one of gaming’s most popular shooter series. After lying dormant for a decade or so, it bounced back with a brand new entry in 2016, which ended up being one of our favorite games of the year, in fact. Admittedly, we weren’t thrilled by the pared-back Nintendo Switch port, but id Software blew us away with the release of Doom Eternal, which proved that the series still has plenty of life left in it.
However, when it comes to the franchise’s big screen adaptations, things haven’t fared all that well. The 2005 self-titled movie was, if we’re being honest, pretty garbage, and last year’s 2019 Doom: Annihilation was so embarrassing that publisher Bethesda put out a statement to distance themselves (and their developers) from the project.

Doom is, without a doubt, one of if not the best First-Person Shooters (Fps) of all time. The highly influential game arguably kick-started the entire shooter genre, and its latest games are about to do the same again. The franchise’s cinematic outings, however, are nowhere near as good. Despite being one of the most important games ever made, Doom inspired note one but two underwhelming live-action adaptations.

Do not be deceived by the title of Doom: Annihilation, or the fact that IMDb claims it “follows” Andrzej Bartkowiak’s mostly-awful Doom. The new film from writer/director Tony Giglio (S.W.A.T. It is a glorious week to be a horror fan, because we have a ton of amazing Blu-rays and DVDs heading home on Tuesday. And while there’s a lot to be excited about, on a personal note, I’m beyond thrilled that Anna and the Apocalypse is finally getting a tangible home media release, because I feel like I’ve been waiting forever to add a copy of John McPhail’s delightful musical to my own collection of movies.
Beyond that, the amazing-looking House of Hitchcock Collection arrives this Tuesday, and looks to be a must-own set for any Alfred Hitchcock fans out there. Kino Lorber is showing some love to Nightmare Beach this week with their special edition release, and Arrow Video has put together a much-deserved limited edition set for The Prey as well. Universal have released a brand new trailer for its upcoming franchise reboot Doom: Annihilation, which is based upon the iconic Doom video game series (as was the original movie starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) and comes from Universal’s Dtv arm, Universal 1440 Entertainment, who were responsible for bringing us the many, many Scorpion King sequels, the Fantastic Death Race Dtv prequel franchise.
This time round the cast includes Amy Manson, Luke Allen-Gale, Dominic Mafham and Nina Bergman and the film is directed by one of my favourite filmmakers, Tony Giglio, who previously directed the superb slasher Timber Falls and the “as good as The Raid and Dredd” (at least Imho) actioner Extraction; and who also penned a couple of the Death Race sequels.

Let’s face it, Doom: Annihilation isn’t going to be very good. First came the extremely dodgy-looking stills, then the cheap-looking trailer and the revelation that the movie was headed straight-to-video. But none of that means it couldn’t be a lot of cheesy fun to enjoy whilst drunk, right?
After all, if the flick can capture even a smidge of the pleasure of sprinting through the halls of hell clutching a super shotgun and dispatching waves of imps, pinkies and cacodemons, then it should at least be entertaining. We hope.
Now, a new teaser for the movie shows that someone has at least been paying attention to the original game. The latest teaser for Doom: Annihilation has arrived and it looks pretty creepy. Universal 1440 Entertainment dropped the first trailer for the movie at the beginning of the year and fans of the mega successful video game franchise were left wanting more. Thankfully, the studio has provided us with another brief look at the project before it gets released on Blu-ray, DVD, and digital platforms on October 1st. There is no plan for a limited theatrical release at this time, though that could change in the near future.
Thankfully, Doom: Annihilation looks a lot different from the 2005 take on the movie starring Dwayne Johnson. Things are much darker and closer to the vibe of the original video game, which is what fans have been asking for over the years. The latest teaser trailer features a fight against demons that scientists stumbled upon after opening a portal to hell. Needless to say,...

Exclusive: German powerhouse Constantin Film and U.S. outfit Jb Pictures are fast-tracking development on an as-yet-untitled action-horror movie based on the re-emergence of giant snake the Titanoboa. Think The Meg with serpent scales.
Jb Pictures’ Jeremy Bolt and Constantin’s Robert Kulzer are producing the film, which is slated to shoot in 2020. Constantin’s Martin Moszkowicz is executive-producing. This is the same producing team behind the smash Resident Evil movie series and the upcoming franchise hopeful Monster Hunter, another video-game adaptation starring Milla Jovovich.
Tony Giglio, second unit director on Resident Evil: Afterlife and writer-director on upcoming live-action first-person shooter update Doom: Annihilation, is aboard to write the screenplay.
The Titanoboa is an extinct species of giant snake which lived in northeastern Colombia. They could grow up to 12.8 m (42 ft) long and reach a weight of 1,135 kg. The reptile existed around 58 to 60 million years ago and is the largest snake ever discovered.

Doom: Annihilation proves that the only thing scarier than demons on Mars is going direct-to-video.
After fans expressed their concerns regarding Doom: Annihilation (an upcoming direct-to-video Doom movie adaptation), iD Software took to Twitter to clarify that they are "not involved with the movie." Tagline: "You're Mission: Don't Die." Another Doom film is coming your way via Universal 1440 Entertainment and director Tony Giglio, titled Doom: Annihilation. Universal 1440 is the same production house behind Death Race 4: Beyond Anarchy and Giglio also wrote this film venture. Both Doom: Annihilation and Death Race 4 where shot in Bulgaria. And, the latest Doom production sounds very similar, in story, to the original 2005 film. Of course, both films are based off of the 1993 first-person action shooter game. This latest release borrows from the game's story with Space Marines investigating a distress call from a Martian moon. The 2019 version stars: Louis Mandylor (Daylight's End), Amy Manson (The Chameleon), Nina Bergman (Assassin X), Gavin Brocker and many more. The film's official teaser trailer is here. "What is going on??" "They opened up a portal to Hell!" Universal 1440 Entertainment has just debuted the first brief teaser trailer Doom: Annihilation, another new live-action Doom movie arriving some 14 years after the original attempt at adapting the classic video game. This one is heading straight-to-vod, skipping theaters entirely, but has a major producer behind it (Lorenzo di Bonaventura of the Transformers series) and doesn't look that cheap. Described as an "intense action-packed" thriller, the sci-fi action horror movie is about a group of space marines who land on a Martian moon, but "discover it's been overrun by demonic creatures who threaten to create Hell on Earth." Of course. Starring Amy Manson, Dominic Mafham, Luke Allen-Gale, Hari Dhillon, Jemma Moore, and Nina Bergman. There isn't much footage so far, but it does look pretty cool. Some big guns, some cool sets, might not turn out too bad. I'd like to see more.

The first trailer for “Doom: Annihilation,” the latest live-action adaptation of the popular first-person shooter, is out in the wild.
An NBC/Universal spokesperson told Variety the new “Doom” is being handled by Universal 1440 Entertainment, which produces live-action and animated non-theatrical productions directly for distribution in all media worldwide. That means the film may be direct-to-dvd, or it could possibly appear on a digital platform like Netflix. Universal 1440’s other projects currently include the latest “Tremors” movie, a “Death Race” sequel, and an adaptation of Bruce Coville’s sci-fi classic “Aliens Ate My Homework.”

This Fall, Universal's straight-to-video arm Universal 1440 Entertainment has an all-new Doom movie headed our way. And today we have word that the film has been officially titled Doom: Annihilation. Not only that, but we have three first-look stills for you guys to check out. You can give them a look-see below. Another bit of info to keep in mind when it comes to Doom: Annihilation is that the movie is not - I repeat not - a direct sequel to the 2005 version like we were led to believe. But that's all good as that version was pretty much a waste of movie-making magic. The part that goes first-person-shooter was pretty cool though. Anyhow, no, this new movie isn't a sequel to that Doom movie which starred Karl Urban, Rosamund Pike, and Dwyane "The Rock" Johnson.

There are few purer pleasures in video games than sprinting through the halls of hell clutching a super shotgun and dispatching waves of imps, pinkies and cacodemons. Whether you’re playing the original 90s masterpiece or the thoroughly amazing Doom reboot from 2016, there’s a purity and simplicity to the gameplay that you just don’t see very often. Nearly all of the above was missing in the 2005 cinematic flop of the same name, but now Universal’s having another bite at the apple with Doom: Annihilation (and yes, the title is in all caps).
The project has been in production for about a year now, with the release reportedly delayed in order to spruce up the CGI and make the scenes set in hell more terrifying. “All I’ve ever dreamed about is living on a couch, playing video games with no one bugging me. Relaxer is the nightmare version of my fantasy,” so says Joel Potrykus when it comes to his latest unsettling, yet riveting film. A fitting companion with his brilliant Buzzard, the Y2K-set feature stars Joshua Burge as he undertakes a challenge with grave consequences. Oscilloscope Pictures has now released the first trailer, which grabs a quote from our SXSW review.
John Fink said in our review, “While many indie filmmakers like Andrew Bujalski started making films in apartments with their friends and scaled up to larger projects, Michigan-based madman Joel Potrykus has gleefully and unapologetically scaled down as his career has progressed. His fourth outing, Relaxer, barely even takes place in an apartment, but rather in the corner of a living room where Abbie (Joshua Burge) is stuck on a couch for nearly six months.

"You do not leave this couch until the challenge is completed!" Oscilloscope Labs has debuted the trailer for a demented, wacky indie film titled Relaxer, which premiered at the SXSW Film Festival last year. Relaxer is the latest work from American filmmaker Joel Potrykus, who has been making some super funky little films including Ape, Buzzard, and The Alchemist Cookbook. This one is just as funky as all of those: With the impending Y2K apocalypse fast approaching, Abbie is faced with the ultimate challenge - the unbeatable level 256 on Pac-Man - and he can't get off the couch until he conquers it. A survival story in a living room. Starring Joshua Burge, David Dastmalchian, Andre Hyland, Madi Bachman, & Amari Cheatom. This looks totally gross and ridiculous, but apparently "an unforgettable experience" according to one critic.
