The director of the four main John Wick movies has revealed which of them is his favorite. The franchise kicked off in 2014 with the action movie of the same name. Although the Keanu Reeves-led release hinted at a broader universe with an interconnected network of assassins and constantly shifting alliances, it largely spun a pulse-pounding gun fu adventure from one simple premise: the titular former assassin is seeking revenge for the murder of his dog - a present from his late wife - and the theft of his car.
It was a critical and commercial success, earning a Certified Fresh 86% Rotten Tomatoes score and grossing $86 million against its roughly $25 million budget, and the John Wick franchise has expanded considerably since it debuted. American Animals director Bart Layton is assembling a new Hollywood dream team as Halle Berry joins Chris Hemsworth for the filmmaker’s upcoming thriller Crime 101. Berry, also known as the Master of Dog Fu (watch John Wick 3 – Parabellum), is fresh off her buddy comedy with Mark Wahlberg, The Union, while her latest horror film, Never Let Go, is lighting up silver screens this month. The Amazon MGM Studios project takes inspiration from Don Winslow‘s short story Crime 101, with Layton planning to release the film in theaters next year.
While plot details remain mysterious, Deadline says Crime 101 contains Heat-like elements. According to the synopsis for Winslow’s novella, the story focuses on a string of high-level jewel heists up and down the Pacific Coast Highway. The crimes have gone unsolved for years, mainly because the perpetrator has lived by a strict code he calls “Crime 101”. Police...

Though she's regarded as a Hollywood legend and one of the film industry's most notable actors, Halle Berry admits she still finds opportunities "limited" despite her status. The Academy Award winner suggests her status as a Black woman in Hollywood doesn't afford her time to wait for potential Oscar-worthy roles, leading her to take anything she can get.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Berry claimed being a Black woman has reduced her options given how marginalized she and other actors have been throughout the industry, making her more proactive in choosing roles within different genres rather than waiting for major ones. Well, here's the truth of it. As a Black woman, I have never had the luxury of just doing Oscar-worthy performances and movies. I dont even know what that is. My options at times are so limited, and thats the reality of it, she said.

Despite previously expressing openness to returning as Storm and Patience Phillips, X-Men franchise star and Catwoman actor Halle Berry offers a disappointing update to her potentially reprising her superhero roles. The Hollywood icon insists she wants to "stay in the present" as she claims it's not easy to go back to playing past characters.
Speaking with Comicbook.com, Berry was asked which of her favorite past roles she could see herself returning to down the line. However, Berry cast doubt on reprising any roles, including her superhero characters, focusing on her latest lead role in the upcoming survival horror flick, Never Let Go. "I stay in the present, you know, some of those things have, you know, gone by, and I don't know if you can go back to things like that. So I'm kind of in the present. Halle Berry is back in the spotlight with yet another role that strips her (a bit) of her timeless beauty for the sake of yet another vulnerable, emotionally raw portrayal following Bruised, her directorial debut for Netflix. Our recent in-person interview with the Academy Award winner confirms our suspicions that she, indeed, does not age. Must be nice. And on that note, it's hard to believe she is still the only Black woman to win a Best Actress Oscar, and her latest outing for Never Let Go certainly reminds us of her on-screen talents that earned her said trophy.
Regarding the film's title no, this isn't a nod to Kate Winslet's iconic line from Titanic, but rather an important rule the new film's perpetually distressed mother (Berry) orders her two young sons to obey each and every day as they carry out their dangerous existence in the wilderness. Despite featuring a star-studded duo in Halle Berry and Mark Wahlberg, The Union continues to divide critics and audiences. The new Netflix spy film's negative reaction unfortunately prompted a new low mark for Wahlberg's career.
Via Rotten Tomatoes, The Union boasts rotten critic and audience scores less than a week after its Netflix debut. The film currently has a 36% critical rating and 26% audience score on the popular review aggregator platform, making it one of the worst-rated movies on Berry and Wahlberg's extensive CVs. For Wahlberg, The Union's audience score is the second-lowest ever for a movie featuring the veteran actor, with 2008's The Happening (24%) being the lowest of the bunch. The critics' score also ranks among the bottom 10 all-time for Wahlberg movies.

If you combine stars of Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry's caliber and put them in a high-profile Netflix release, it's bound to be successful on the streamer, and that point has been proven with the release of the action thrillerThe Union. All the ingredients were in place for this film to hit on the platform, so it's not exactly surprising that it shot its way to the top of Netflix's Top Ten Films.
Per Netflix's Global Top Ten Chart, The Union is currently at number one with over 33 million views tallied. In addition to this, 60.1 million hours of the film have been viewed, and it has ranked in the Top 10 in 93 countries on Netflix, including number-one showings in Brazil, Argentina, Canada, Bolivia, and many more. The movie comes out ahead of other established fan-favorites on the chart, including Kingsman: The Secret Service, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, and The Emoji Movie.

Say what you will about big movies bypassing the theatrical experience, but this week's most-watched Netflix titles make one thing clear: star power still matters, even on streaming. Case in point: "The Union," a new Netflix Original movie starring Halle Berry and Mark Wahlberg that's been climbing the viewership charts since its release last week, according to streaming chart data site FlixPatrol.
Action rom-com "The Union" is currently beating away the rest of the competition on Netflix's top 10 most-watched list, which as of publication time is mostly made up of family films like "The Super Mario Bros. Kids who demand a dozen rewatches of their animated favorites clearly have nothing on grown-ups who have been itching to see Berry back in action for the first time in a few years, though.

On Wednesday, Halle Berry turned a year older. Proving she still has it, she flaunted her curves in see-through La Perla lingerie at the premiere of her new movie, The Union. However, the internet seemed split on her dress choice.
While conservatives believe that women should give up wearing skimpy, short dresses, and high heels once they turn 50, others argue that it all depends on the figure and shape of the legs. Liberals, on the other hand, believe that older women should be free to express their individuality and that fashion knows no age restrictions.

Halle Berry wouldn't mind returning to play an iconic comic book character once again. Just not the one you're thinking of. During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Berry discussed her recent birthday, carrying the torch at the Paris Olympics, and celebrating the 20th anniversary of her DC Comics film Catwoman. DC fans may have tried to erase that film from their collective memory, but Berry hasn't, and insists she would be willing to reprise the role, under one condition.

A great many superhero films are getting the opportunity for reassessment in the age of multiversal storytelling. "Deadpool & Wolverine," "The Flash," and even the Arrowverse on The CW have all made use of the notion of a multiverse, something the comics have been doing for decades, to bring back actors from eras long since past for another round in the spotlight. So, might Halle Berry's "Catwoman" also be on deck for a redemption arc? It seems unlikely, to say the least. That said, Berry would be willing to return as the character — under one very strict condition.

“Because I can, goddamn.”
So said Halle Berry last night when asked by The Hollywood Reporter why she selected a sheer, lingerie-style La Perla creation last night for the world premiere of Netflix’s The Union. The Julian Farino-directed action drama casts the 57-year-old Oscar winner as Roxanne, a member of a covert intelligence operation who recruits Mike, a down-to-earth construction worker from New Jersey played by Mark Wahlberg, to join a high-stakes mission. They happen to be high school sweethearts, and that’s another reason Berry braved the red carpet in the daring dress.
“I thought with the theme of this movie being lovers reuniting, it was time to bring this out,” she continued. “This is also where I’m at today.”

From playing a super-powered mutant to an Mma fighter, Halle Berry has had her fair share of on-the-job accidents over the years.
The Academy Award winner recently compared battle scars with her The Union co-star Mark Wahlberg as they discussed their dangerous experiences with stunt performances on their many action movies.
“I’ve been knocked out three times, got an arm broken, broke ribs twice — two ribs one time, three ribs another time — broke a tail bone, broke two toes and a finger. This finger,” said Berry in the Netflix clip with a laugh while holding up her middle finger.
One such injury happened on the set of 2003’s Gothika, when Berry broke a bone in her right forearm, delaying the shoot by several weeks. Three of her broken ribs came from John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum (2019) and the other two came from her 2020 Mma drama Bruised, which also marked her directorial debut.

Halle Berry hopes to break her bad spy movie streak with Netflix's The Union, starring Mark Wahlberg in an action thriller. Berry's past spy movie misfires, Kingsman: The Golden Circle and Die Another Day, set a tough precedent for her new project. The Union has potential as a breakout hit with a standout cast and rookie action director.
Halle Berry has the chance to redeem her poor film streak in one genre she can't seem to get the better of with an upcoming Netflix movie set to release this summer. For the past decade, Berry's general film catalog has struggled with mixed or average receptions, filled with movie roles in lackluster titles, including Roland Emmerich's disappointing sci-fi Moonfall, the melodramatic sports drama Bruised, and 2017's love-it-or-hate-it crime thriller, Kidnap. Mma has been steadily catching up to boxing in terms of combat sport films. While there are plenty of action films that utilize the practice, boxing has been able to capitalize on more character dramas, especially since Rocky hit the scene (no pun intended). While there have been movies like Warrior and Bruised that have showcased mixed martial arts in dramatic films, the popular UFC brand has been geared more towards popcorn movies like Here Comes the Boom and the upcoming Road House remake. The producers of Hereditary are now set to make a UFC-based drama where two Mma fighters, who fight for their own reasons, find themselves on a collision course.
Variety reports that Lupita Nyong’o and Chloe Grace Moretz will star in Strawweight as UFC fighters. The synopsis is said to “follow the journeys of two fighters who find themselves competing against each other in the Octagon. One...

Netflix just unveiled the line-up of films they’ll be releasing in 2024, and missing from that list is the Halle Berry sci-fi movie The Mothership – which, as we reported last week, Netflix has decided not to release at all. At the time, their decision to scrap the movie was reminiscent of Warner Bros. scrapping the films Coyote vs. Acme, Batgirl, and Scoob! Holiday Haunt (as well as a couple other Scooby-Doo projects). But, while at a media event yesterday, Bela Bajaria, who is currently serving as chief of Netflix’s film division, said the producers of The Mothership agreed with Netflix that the movie shouldn’t be released. This is different from what goes on at Warner Bros., where filmmakers are shocked and upset to hear their work is being tossed in the trash.

Back in 2021, a Netflix production called The Mothership was filmed with Halle Berry in the lead role and Bridge of Spies writer Matthew Charman at the helm, making his feature directorial debut. Unfortunately, there have been “multiple delays in post-production” for unspecified reasons… and now Variety has confirmed that Netflix has made the decision to scrap the film instead of completing post-production.
Most people thought it was a questionable move when Warner Bros. decided to scrap the films Coyote vs. Acme, Batgirl, and Scoob! Holiday Haunt for the purpose of tax write-offs, but apparently Netflix thought it was a good idea, since they’ve decided to do the same thing with this project.
If we had the chance to watch The Mothership, we would have found that the story of the sci-fi movie took place one year after the husband of Berry’s character mysteriously vanishes from their rural farm.

Netflix has shelved Halle Berry sci-fi The Mothership, Screen understands.
Production on the film wrapped in 2021 however the streamer elected not to continue after multiple delays in post-production.
The film centres on a mother who uncovers an alien object under her farmhouse which may solve the mystery of her husband’s disappearance a year prior. MRC was producing the film and Matthew Charman was the director.
The Mothership joins a line of Hollywood films which have been axed despite wrapping production. Warner Bros did this with its DC feature Batgirl, as well as animation Scoob! Holiday Haunt, and Coyote vs. Acme.

In a surprising development, Netflix will no longer be releasing Halle Berry’s sci-fi movie The Mothership, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Berry and the Mothership team already completed much of the filming on the project, but it was in need of extensive reshoots to get it over the finish line. Netflix opted not to move forward with those reshoots and shelved the film instead. The InSneider newsletter first reported the news.
The sci-fi film starred Berry as a woman who discovers an extraterrestrial object under her home one year after the disappearance of her husband. Matthew Charman (Bridge of Spies) wrote and directed The Mothership as his feature directorial debut. The ensemble cast included Molly Parker, John Ortiz and Omari Hardwick.
That move recalls Warner Bros. Discovery’s 2022 decision to ax Batgirl, the DC film that already completed shooting and was expected to arrive on HBO Max. The company...

Netflix has scrapped the release of “The Mothership,” a science-fiction film starring Halle Berry.
The movie finished filming in 2021, but it couldn’t be completed after multiple delays in post-production, Variety has confirmed.
“The Mothership” is the latest Hollywood movie to disappear even though filming had wrapped. Since 2022, Warner Bros. has axed three movies — John Cena’s “Coyote vs. Acme,” the $90 million budgeted DC adventure “Batgirl” and the animated “Scoob! Holiday Haunt” — for the purpose of tax write-offs.
“Bridge of Spies” writer Matthew Charman directed “The Mothership,” which takes place one year after the husband of Berry’s character mysteriously vanishes from their rural farm. Speaking in her masterclass at Red Sea International Film Festival, Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry said that launching her own production company is finally empowering her to make the stories she has always wanted to produce and direct – including a project that she identified on the plane on the way to Jeddah.
“Finally on the plane coming here I saw a story, I saw what’s in my heart, and realised what I wanted to share,” said Berry, who recently launched production company HalleHolly with former WME partner Holly Jeter.
When pressed further she said: “It’s a love story at its core, but it deals with the supernatural and time travel and the future. It’s taken me the last few years to figure this out.”
Berry said having her own banner – which she has previously said will make content with strong, multicultural, female protagonists – is finally giving her the...

Oscar-winning actor Halle Berry had a strike of inspiration on the flight to Saudi Arabia, where she gave a career-spanning conversation at the third edition of the Red Sea Film Festival. The flight, she said, led her to figure out what she wants to direct next: “It’s a love story at its core but it deals with the supernatural, time travel and the future.”
This will mark Berry’s sophomore feature after 2020’s Mma drama “Bruised.” When asked about her first directing experience, the actor was frank, labelling the entire process “hell.” “Because I was a woman, and a Black woman, the treatment I received and the things I had to put up with were unconscionable,” she said. “If I were a white man or even a Black man, it would have been easier. It’s amazing I even made it and a miracle Netflix bought it.”

Some actors, like Jon Favreau and George Clooney, have successfully transitioned into directing, earning respect from both audiences and fellow directors. While some actors-turned-directors, such as Drew Barrymore and Chris Evans, have received critical praise for their directorial debuts, they have not pursued directing as a full-time career. Halle Berry and Natalie Portman have also tried their hand at directing, with mixed reception for their debut films, but there is still potential for them to continue their directing careers in the future.
Many actors have made the jump to behind the cameras and added the title of directors to their careers, and some great movies from the past 20 years were actually directed by actors. It’s not uncommon for actors to give directing a try at some point in their careers, and many end up making a whole career shift or splitting their time between being in front of the camera and behind it.
