Sean Gamble, the CEO of movie theater owner Cinemark Holdings, reflected on how the last writers strike in Hollywood affected movie releases and what the impact of the current Writers Guild of America strike might be for films coming out in 2023 and 2024.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gamble was satisfied with the better-than-expected output of movies in 2023 so far and saw no indications that would change within the year or next, not even with the WGA strike. He said the majority of upcoming films were "unlikely to be materially affected." He conceded, however, that the situation might depend on the length of the strike. Remembering the last writers strike in 2007 and 2008, he acknowledged that it had "some impact" on the film industry, but the disruption to film releases was "fairly limited." The last strike lasted for 100 days.

This article contains spoilers for The Last of Us HBO show and The Last of Us Part 1 game.
The Last of Us first season is finally over. The new true-crime documentary, Stolen Youth: Inside the Cult at Sarah Lawrence, has been met with shock from viewers.
Since the series arrived in US streaming service Hulu on Thursday (9 February), many have posted on social media about how disturbing they have found the story of a sex cult led by a student’s middle-aged father.
Stolen Youth showcases interviews with victims of Larry Ray, incorporating video tapes and audio recordings to tell the story of his grim 10-year influence over a group of young people.
It follows the story from the cult’s origins in 2010 – which began when Ray moved into his daughter’s halls of residence near New York and started to manipulate her friends – to its recent demise.
Last month, Ray was sentenced to 60 years in prison, after being charged with crimes including sex trafficking, extortion and racketeering conspiracy.
Viewers have been posting their first reactions on Twitter.

“Succession” creator Jesse Armstrong made a bit of a dig at King Charles as he accepted the Drama Series award at Monday’s 2022 Emmys.
Armstrong said of the dark comedy’s big win, “Big week for successions, new King in the U.K., this for us.
“Evidently a little more voting involved in our winning than Prince Charles,” he added. “I’m not saying we’re more legitimate in our position than he is, we’ll leave that to other people.”

Armstrong continued, “We are incredibly grateful to have this, it’s a wonderful honour. This group is extraordinary.”
Charles was immediately crowned King after his mother Queen Elizabeth II passed away at age 96 on Thursday at Balmoral Castle.
“Succession” also focuses on a complicated family, the Logans, who control the biggest media and entertainment company in the world.
