It's been a strong year for Hulu, between their continued success with shows like "Only Murders in the Building" and "The Bear," as well as new hits like "Shōgun" and "Paradise." However, one original Hulu series that may have flown under the radar of most viewers is "Tell Me Lies," a drama series that premiered back in 2022 and returned for its second season in 2024. It might be the perfect new series to binge-watch if you can't find a movie to watch on Hulu right now, but its 18 episodes might be not enough for fans.
"Tell Me Lies" stars Grace Van Patten and Jackson White as two college students who fall in and out of love over the span of eight years. Based on a 2018 novel by Carola Lovering, the series has been lauded by critics for its performances, nuanced portrayal of toxic relationships, and its modern take on romantic drama.

During this year's Variety's Actors on Actors series, Academy Award-nominee Mikey Madison confessed to "The Last Showgirl" star Pamela Anderson (a woman with a history of having been exploited by the fame machine) that she had declined to use an intimacy coordinator for "Anora," despite the explicit nature of the film and her character. This situation kicked up a flurry of discourse, with multiple intimacy coordinators speaking with Variety to weigh in on the situation. To be clear, Madison said that the "sex shots" in "Anora" were "a very positive experience" for her. However, the water-cooler conversations that followed showed that the general public still doesn't fully understand what it is that an intimacy coordinator does.

Disney’s planned Tangled live-action remake may have found the perfect actress to play Mother Gothel! Here’s what we know!
Like it or not, Disney’s live-action remakes aren’t going away. The company seems obsessed with making a live-action version of just about every major animated movie in its catalog. It’s not just the classics like Snow White, The Little Mermaid, or Beauty and the Beast either.
Moana is shooting a live-action version with Dwayne Johnson reprising his role as Maui. This summer sees the live-action Lilo & Stitch movie. Disney is also planning a version of Tangled, which makes sense as the 2010 film was one of the bigger hits of that decade.

In a short timeframe, Kathryn Hahn has become one of the most popular figures in the Marvel Cinematic Universe presently. A lot has to do with her Agatha Harkness from Agatha All Along. The character is on the road to redemption after being a Scarlet Witch villain in WandaVision.
Interestingly, while Hahn is known more for comedies, she was in a thought-provoking HBO drama in 2019: Mrs. Fletcher. It ran for seven episodes and broke a problematic trend with how women were depicted. In the process, she carved out a powerful, feminist story of self-discovery.

Shining Vale has found a new streaming home. The Starz horror-comedy show, which was co-created by Jeff Astrof and Sharon Horgan, stars Courteney Cox as an author whose family moves to a new home where she is haunted by supernatural entities. The Shining Vale cast also includes Greg Kinnear, Gus Birney, Merrin Dungey, Dylan Gage, and Mira Sorvino. Less than three weeks after its season 2 finale, the show was cancelled, after which point it was removed from the Starz streaming service in its entirety.
Now, Shining Vale has appeared in the Max library. In the Hulu original series "Tell Me Lies" — adapted by Meaghan Oppenheimer from Carola Lovering's book of the same name — lead Jackson White is saddled with a difficult task: he has to play the worst boyfriend anyone's ever had. As a student at the fictional Baird College (located somewhere in upstate New York) who dreams of becoming a lawyer, White's character Stephen DeMarco is odious right from the very beginning ... and his worst qualities are out in full force as he pursues freshman Lucy Albright (Grace Van Patten). Early in the show's first episode, "Tell Me Lies" establishes not one but two timelines; in 2008, Stephen and Lucy attend Baird and carry on a fraught on-again, off-again relationship, and in 2015, a grown-up Lucy and Stephen are stuck attending the wedding of their friends Bree (Catherine Missal) and Evan (Branden Cook), desperately trying to avoid one another.

Though Kathryn Hahn has only recently (finally) been given her flowers for her performances in WandaVision and Agatha All Along, she's been an established industry veteran for decades, particularly when it comes to supporting roles in comedies. In fact, prior to pivoting toward leading roles in shows like Tiny Beautiful Things and Mrs. Fletcher, scene-stealing supporting roles were Hahns bread and butter. Look no further than her recurring role in NBC's Parks and Recreation, the wildly popular Amy Poehler-led mockumentary sitcom, for evidence of her ability to commandeer an audience. Hahn's brief stint in Pawnee, Indiana is part of what makes Parks and Recreation still so enduring, and her episodes are essential viewing if you're looking to round out your Kathryn Hahn education after Agatha All Along.

Exclusive: Condé Nast, like all media players, has been forced to reimagine itself.
Over the past year, the company has laid off 5% of its staff, citing the impact of TikTok and other digital competition; reached a settlement with union members; and dealt with a decidedly choppy ad market.
Despite running that gauntlet, however, the media industry mainstay has notably not curtailed its ambitions to make a mark in film and television. In fact, the company is starting to see encouraging returns on its commitment to a print-to-screen pipeline. Condé Nast now has 14 projects in production or post-production set up with distributors like Amazon, Netflix, HBO and Warner Brothers, plus another 23 projects in development with independent financial backers.
Two titles just out this month are based on Vanity Fair pieces. Breath of Fire, a multi-part docuseries on HBO and Max, explores the multi-million-dollar Kundalini yoga industry and its scandalous leader Guru Jagat.

With its first two episodes, "Agatha All Along" has already announced itself as a Marvel show unlike any we've seen before. Gone are the kid-friendly quips and franchise in-jokes, replaced with bits about kegels and an extended "Mare of Easttown" parody. Despite its fairly universal appeal, the show also feels like it's by, for, and about grown women in a way that few previous Marvel properties have. Plus, it's clearly already focused on themes of feminine power and those who wish to strip it away.
It's only natural, then, that "Agatha All Along" would also be daring (for Marvel) in its portrayals of women's bodies. The show's first episode featured something that's been few and far between in the blockbuster franchise over the last 16 years: a bare butt. When Agatha (Kathryn Hahn) finally uncovers the secret to her own identity, she also realizes she's been drained of her powers. After stripping off her many personas,...

Agatha All Along star Kathryn Hahn has been in a handful of brilliant movies and TV series, but she has hardly gotten the recognition she truly deserved. Having played supporting roles in several films, the actress has built up quite an impressive filmography, spread across different genres, including the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Apart from playing the supportive assistant in the iconic rom-com How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days or the drug-induced Bad Moms, Hahn had one of her most risky roles on HBO’s Mrs. Fletcher. Kathryn Hahn has always been more than happy to take on a supporting role. Her comedic career blossomed in the early 2000s with bit parts in Adam McKay films like “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy” and “Step Brothers,” and she also garnered dramatic bonafides with Sam Mendes’ “Revolutionary Road” and M. Night Shyamalan’s “The Visit.” Most recently, she’s helped fill out ensembles in live-action projects like “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” and animated ones such as “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.” As her career has developed in the last decade, so too has her center-stage appeal, with roles in HBO’s “Mrs. Fletcher” and Tamara Jenkins’ “Private Life” placing her in lead position. Now, it seems, Marvel is taking notice as they’ve decided to spin her side character from “WandaVision” off into her own Disney+ show with “Agatha All Along.”

Ron Cephas Jones, who left viewers emotional throughout his breakthrough run on NBC’s “This Is Us,” has died, TheWrap has confirmed via his manager.
Jones, 66, had broken through as an older actor portraying William “Shakespeare” Hill on the soapy NBC drama, father to Sterling K. Brown’s Randall Pearson.
Jones died of a “long-standing pulmonary issue,” according to a statement from his representatives. The actor suffered from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, he told The New York Times in 2021, and had received a double-lung transplant.
The first credited role Jones played was in 1994, but he continued to get work in projects including “Law & Order,” “NYPD Blue” and “He Got Game.” But he hit a new level of prominence as an estranged father on “This Is Us,” one who knew his time was limited and whose arc ultimately depicted his death.

Costume designer Leah Katznelson has worked on a number of contemporary projects in her acclaimed career, including feature films like “21 Jump Street” and “Sleeping With Other People” and television series such as “Mrs. Fletcher” and last year’s “Fleishman Is in Trouble.” For the FX limited series, an Emmy nominee for Best Limited Series and Best Movie/Limited Supporting Actress for Claire Danes, Katznelson was required to recreate the very recent past, as much of the show’s narrative takes place in the summer of 2016.

Horror fans, get ready for a new trip to the pet cemetery. Paramount+ has revealed the first look at the upcoming prequel to Stephen King’s Pet Sematary, titled Pet Sematary: Bloodlines. The prequel will explore the origins of the cursed burial ground that brings back the dead, but not as they were before.
The first look image shows a brown dog walking on a dirt path in front of a sign that reads “Ludlow”. The dog is presumably one of the pets that will be buried and resurrected in the prequel, and the sign indicates that the story will take place in the same town as the original novel and its adaptations. The image has a vintage feel to it, suggesting that the prequel will be set in an earlier time period than the 2019 film.

Pet Sematary: Bloodlines is directed by Lindsey Beer, who is making her directorial debut.

Add Vice to the list of disappeared series from cable and streaming outlets.
The documentary series was removed from Showtime and Paramount+ earlier in July as part of a broader set of programs taken off the Paramount Global services. Vice joins the likes of The L Word: Generation Q, Ziwe, I Love That for You and American Gigolo in being taken down from Showtime, which is focusing its programming on key franchises like Billions — which has several spinoffs in development — Dexter and The Chi.
But while the other pulled shows had finished their runs, Vice still had half a season remaining on its order, plus an episode featuring a segment on Florida governor and presidential candidate Ron DeSantis that was taken out of the rotation in May. At the time, Vice News, which produces the series, said in a statement, “As with all current affairs programming there can be scheduling changes,...

Owen Teague is busy. So much so that even the rising young actor still hasn’t seen his latest film “Eileen” (Neon), co-starring Anne Hathaway and Thomasin McKenzie, which premiered at Sundance in January.
“How is the movie?,” he asked on a recent Zoom call with IndieWire. That’s because he was down in Australia for six months playing Cornelius, the horse-riding chimpanzee lead in the upcoming sequel, “The Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes”.
Ever since he first moved to California from Florida at age 18, ditching NYU in order to shoot a movie with Gary Oldman (“Mary”) in Alabama, he has lived out of a suitcase. “I was just working. Kathryn Hahn's best roles have been getting better and better since she first appeared as friend and colleague to Kate Hudson's Andie Anderson in How To Lose A Guy In Ten Days. Hahn may have started out playing many best friends and supporting roles, but she has undoubtedly grown into leading actress material. In recent years, Hahn has played the lead character in HBO's Mrs. Fletcher, voiced Paige Hunter in the animated comedy, Central Park, and brought Rabbi Raquel Fein to Amazon's Transparent. Hahn's wide range has been made abundantly clear and her filmography is a testament to her diversity as an actor.
Kathryn Hahn continues to build an incredibly impressive career for herself after years of smaller roles. She was part of the star-studded murder mystery cast of Glass Onion in 2022 and received her own MCU show with Agatha: Coven of Chaos following her fan-favorite breakout in WandaVision.

Tiny Beautiful Things Review: Kathryn Hahn Leads A Gorgeously-Written Take On Grief, Art, And Family
We've all seen stories where fictional art falls short: films where supposedly world-famous pop stars actually sound just okay, or TV shows where fictional acclaimed poets aren't nearly as talented as they're clearly meant to be. It's a tricky business to write art within art, and more often than not, the end results fall short. Hulu's new series "Tiny Beautiful Things," based on an essay collection by Cheryl Strayed, doesn't have that problem. Rather, the show about a woman who takes on a self-help column writing gig despite the fact that her own life is falling apart features some of the most beautiful, aching, soulful writing I've ever heard, delivered with assured emotion by star Kathryn Hahn.
Hahn delivers a powerful performance here, one that feels as if it continues a conversation started by her dynamic, sexually and emotionally complex turn in the underrated series "Mrs. Fletcher." The two shows aren't related,...

NBC has placed a pilot order for “St. Denis Medical,” the latest workplace comedy series to come from “Superstore” alums Justin Spitzer and Eric Ledgin, as well as Simon Heuer.
According to the show’s logline, the forthcoming comedy will be “a mockumentary about an underfunded, understaffed Oregon hospital where the dedicated doctors and nurses try their best to treat patients while maintaining their own sanity.”
The pilot first received a production commitment from NBC in August.
Spitzer will serve as a writer and executive producer with Ledgin and Heuer under his Spitzer Holding Company’s banner. Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, will produce the series for NBC. Spitzer and Ledgin both remain under overall deals with Universal.

The world of "Planet of the Apes" continues to grow, and the latest film has just cast Dichen Lachman in an undisclosed role, per The Hollywood Reporter. These days Lachman is most recognizable for her turn as the mysterious corporate counselor Ms. Casey on the excellent Apple TV+ series "Severance," but she's been a stand-out in sci-fi projects in particular for years now, with memorable turns in "The 100," "Dollhouse," "Altered Carbon," and more. She also appeared in last year's blockbuster "Jurassic World Dominion."
While Lachman's part in the story is still under wraps, THR's report also includes some plot details for "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes," and the story frankly sounds pretty wild. The follow-up to 2017's "War For The Planet of the Apes" will take place years after the third film in the new franchise and bring viewers to a version of the world that sounds...

In August 2022, amidst a bevy of other cost-cutting but callous decisions, Warner Brothers Discovery began removing shows and movies from HBO Max that couldn't be found anywhere else. It wasn't subtle; dozens of titles disappeared across the course of the month, including "Vinyl," which was created by Martin Scorsese, "Mrs. Fletcher," starring Kathryn Hahn, and an inordinate amount of animated and kids' shows. The streamer didn't stop there, though. By December, one of its former flagship shows, "Westworld," was gone, along with a total of 80 other movies and series according to IndieWire.
Even as creators began speaking openly about the broken trust between artists and a powerhouse network that was once known for letting creativity thrive, other streamers were already following in HBO Max's footsteps. HBO Max has canceled Love Life and Minx, in a move that has drawn criticism online. The news is the latest in of a row of cost-cutting measures. Under the leadership of CEO David Zaslav, Warner Bros. Discovery - which owns HBO Max - has told investors it will make 3.5 billion in cost savings as the result of the merger between WarnerMedia and Discovery. The approach to cost-cutting has led to a number of cancelations, perhaps most notably the high-profile DC adaptation Batgirl. It has also led to the removal of already completed shows and movies from its service, in addition to the reduced number of scripted series on other networks owned by Wbd.
Now, Variety reports that Love Life and Minx have been canceled by HBO Max, and will be removed from the platform. In the case of Minx, the 1970s comedy starring Ophelia Lovibond and Jake Johnson, the...

Reese Witherspoon is reprising her fan-favourite starring role as Tracy Flick, 23 years after the cult-classic film “Election” released back in 1999.
The actress, who played the over-achieving student politician that ran for high school president, will step back into the character as an adult. Reese Witherspoon is reprising her role as go-getter Tracy Flick in “Tracy Flick Can’t Win,” a sequel to the 1999 political comedy “Election.”
Alexander Payne, who co-wrote and directed the original film, is returning for the follow-up, which is set to debut on Paramount’s streaming service, Paramount+. In addition to directing, Payne will write the movie adaptation with Jim Taylor.
In “Election,” based on the 1998 novel by Tom Perrotta, Witherspoon portrayed an ambitious, Type-a student whose social studies teacher (played by Matthew Broderick) attempts to sabotage her campaign to become school president. Although it wasn’t a box office draw, the movie was nominated at the Oscars for best adapted screenplay, while Witherspoon landed attention at the Golden Globes in the best actress race.

Both the book and the film have been described as biting, darkly comedic satires in the way that Payne’s original “Election” was.

Paramount Pictures has announced that Tracy Flick Can’t Win — a sequel to Alexander Payne’s cult classic 1999 comedy Election — is being made for Paramount+. Payne is returning as director, with the original film’s lead Reese Witherspoon to produce and reprise her starring role.
Based on Tom Perrotta’s 1998 novel of the same name, Election watches as the high school teacher Jim McAllister (Matthew Broderick) finds himself on a collision course with the over-achieving student politician, Tracy Flick (Witherspoon). The satire drawing parallels between the worlds of high school and politics was Payne’s second feature on the heels of 1996’s Citizen Ruth and proved to be his breakthrough project, netting him and his collaborators three Independent Spirit Awards, a WGA Award and an Oscar nomination, with Witherspoon landing her first Golden Globe nomination.
The Election sequel is based on a follow-up novel by Perrotta, which was published by Scribner in June.

“The grand experiment of creating something at any cost is over,” warned David Zaslav.
But the President and CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery believes that the “golden age of content” is “absolutely not over”.
This comes as Zaslav revealed plans to raise its savings target to 3.5B, up 500M over its initial target.
The new owners of HBO et al. have been cutting content costs across the company, killing a number of high-profile series such as J.J. Abrams’ HBO drama series Demimonde, which was reported to have a budget of mid-200M, as well as slashing series such as The Big D, Chad and others on the Turner networks side.
It has also got HBO Max out of the reality business and killed its kids and young adults content on the streamer.

Brought to you by the letters G-o-n-e: The content purge at HBO Max continues as the streaming platform has pulled about 200 older episodes of classic kids’ show “Sesame Street.”
The removal of the “Sesame Street” episodes and other recent content by HBO Max appears to be part of new owner Warner Bros. Discovery’s belt-tightening moves, aimed at reducing streaming-content payment obligations.
As of Friday, HBO Max listed 456 total episodes of “Sesame Street,” with a selection from Seasons 1, 5 and 7 and the full lineup from the most recent Seasons 39-52. Of those, only 29 are from the earliest seasons. The removal of the “Sesame Street” episodes and other recent content by HBO Max appears to be part of new owner Warner Bros. Discovery’s belt-tightening moves, aimed at reducing streaming-content payment obligations.

Warner Bros. Discovery’s crusade against its own content continued this week as 37 more titles were unceremoniously pulled from HBO Max. Children’s programming and animated series were hit especially hard following news the company was tamping down efforts in those areas. Reality TV on HBO Max has been similarly decimated, a decision underscored by layoffs in the company’s unscripted division earlier this week.
“As we work toward bringing our content catalogs together under one platform, we will be making changes to the content offering available on both HBO Max and Discovery+,” Warner Bros. Discovery execs explained per Deadline. “That will include the removal of some content from both platforms.”
“At the same time, we’re already starting to bring our content catalogs together like the launch of the new CNN Originals Hub on Discovery+ and a curated collection of Magnolia Network content coming soon to HBO Max,” the statement continued.

Summer Camp Island creator Julia Pott is sharing her disappointment with HBO Max’s decision to pull the series as part of an upcoming content purge in unscripted and animated genres.
“We worked for five years to make 100 episodes of animation,” Pott wrote on Twitter. “We worked late into the night, we let ourselves go, we were a family of hard working artists who wanted to make something beautiful, and HBO Max just pulled them all like we were nothing. Animation is not nothing!”
She also addressed the upcoming final season which was slated for release in 2023. “We worked through the pandemic to make 20 linear episodes that are our most beautiful work yet,” she said. “I cannot wait for you to see them. You Will See Them! I will not rest!”

The changes continue at Warner Bros. Discovery as it has been reported that HBO Max will remove 36 titles, including 20 originals, from streaming as early as this week. According to Variety, the decision was made due to the upcoming merger of the HBO Max and Discovery+ streaming services. The company is looking to streamline its services in addition to cutting costs. HBO Max has dropped several titles over the past few weeks, including several Warner Bros. movies and HBO TV shows such as Camping, Vinyl, Mrs. Fletcher, and Run. The latest announcement marks the most significant removal of titles so far, with 20 originals set to be taken off the platform, including teen drama Generation, animated series Summer Camp Island, and holiday-themed dating show 12 Dates of Christmas. There is also said to be a “select group of Sesame Street specials” that will leave the streamer, as well as seven acquired titles,...

HBO Max will remove almost 36 titles from its service as early as this week, Variety has confirmed.
A spokesperson for HBO Max attributed the decision to the pending merge of the platform with Discovery+, which is also owned by Warner Bros. Discovery.
“As we work toward bringing our content catalogs together under one platform, we will be making changes to the content offering available on both HBO Max and discovery+,” HBO Max’s statement reads. “That will include the removal of some content from both platforms.”
Taking off the titles from streaming would also help Warner Bros. Discovery cut costs by removing lesser-watched programs to save money on residuals. An exact date or time when the titles will be taken off has not been announced.
Although HBO Max has removed several titles in the past weeks, including several Warner Bros. films and HBO TV shows such as “Camping,” “Vinyl,” “Mrs. Fletcher” and “Run,...
