Harmful algal blooms in Arabian Sea increasing, warns experts
Image
Kochi, Feb 21 (Ians) Underlining that climate change poses a serious threat to the fisheries and aquaculture in the country, marine scientists have warned of increasing frequency and intensity of the harmful algal blooms (Hab) in the Arabian Sea.

Roughly a three-fold increase in Hab was reported during the period from 2000 to 2020, the experts said at an One Health Aquaculture India workshop being organised by the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (Cefas) of the UK government’s Department for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs and the Icar-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (Cmfri) here.

The Hab are a leading cause of aquatic food-borne health risk to fish consumers and fish mortality that can potentially affect mariculture activities in particular and fisheries in general.

Presenting the status of Hab in Indian waters, Dr Grinson George, Senior Programme Specialist of the Saarc Agriculture Centre (Sac), Dhaka said issuing early advisories are essential...

Finnish Fire Monkey Takes ‘Enemy of the People’ to Mipcom, Reveals Full Slate (Exclusive)
Image
Mikko Pöllä and Roope Lehtinen, seasoned Finnish showrunners and co-founders of Fire Monkey, are bringing to market a handful of premium dramas in post and development.

Headlining their production slate under REinvent’s sales banner is the thriller “Enemy of the People,” from “Man in Room 301” helmer Mikko Kuparinen, currently in post.

Co-created by Lehtinen and Timo Varpio (“Easy Living”), the eight-part TV show boasts a stellar cast, including Kreeta Salminen, Mikko Nousiainen (“Peacemaker”), Tobias Zilliacus (“Beartown”), and Johannes Holopainen (“All the Sins”).

Co-penned by Varpio and Fire Monkey’s in-house writer Laura Suhonen, the thriller explores investigative reporting in an era of trolls and fake news. After writing a critical piece about the local town’s soccer star and biggest celebrity, involved in a dubious business scheme, reporter Katja Salonen finds herself drawn into a whirlpool of lies, deceit and abuse of power, in the middle of which...

‘The Masked Singer’ Premiere Reveals the Identity of the Octopus: Here’s the Star Under the Mask
Image
Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched the Season 6 season premiere, part one, of “The Masked Singer,” which aired September 22 on Fox.

Basketball star Dwight Howard will at least have more time now to focus on bringing a championship back to Los Angeles. The Lakers player was the first celebrity to be unmasked on Season 6 of Fox’s “The Masked Season,” which returned on Wednesday — the first of a two-night premiere and double elimination.

The other eliminated contestant, Mother Nature, won’t be unmasked until Thursday’s episode.

Howard wore the Octopus costume, and sang “Tutti Frutti,” by Little Richard. He said it was his mom’s favorite show, hence the choice to join “Masked Singer.”

“I enjoyed every moment,” Howard told Variety in his exit interview. “Oh man, it was hot and sweaty. I couldn’t really move my head a lot like I wanted to.

Surviving Bee Gee Barry Gibb Says He’d Rather Have His Brothers ‘Back Here and No Hits at All’
"The Bee Gees" Barry Gibb
As the last surviving member of the iconic pop group The Bee Gees, Barry Gibb explained during the new HBO documentary “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart,” which charts the history of the hit factory behind “Stayin’ Alive,” that he thinks often about his deceased brothers — and still hasn’t fully accepted that they’re gone.

Gibb founded The Bee Gees with his brothers Robin and Maurice in 1958, and they remained the core of the group through their early success in the 1960s through their disco-infused superstardom in the 1970s and beyond. Their youngest brother, Andy, was too young to join the band but he became a musical star and teen idol in his own right in the late 70s and early 80s. Andy unfortunately struggled with drug addiction that eventually killed him in 1988, when he was just 30 years old. Maurice meanwhile died of a heart attack at age...
