The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs

Wonderful

Its awesome to see Joe Bob Briggs have a platform again to dish out cheesy, trashy, over the top and obscure horror/drive in gems. If you grew up watching Monstervision or enjoy stuff like Mystery Science Theater 3000 give this show a shot. This show is legit the only reason I have a Shudder subscription. Cant wait to see another season come out soon, I'm jonesing for more.

What else is there to say..?

Joe Bob is THE horror expert of our time.. and he sagaciously explains each & every film as if he could be the director of the film himself. His wealth of knowledge is downright crazy. I honestly subscribe to Shudder just to watch Joe Bob & his commentary on classic horror films. If you haven't watched it yet for some reason, drop everything and do so right now.

The best reason to subscribe to Shudder!

I've been a fan of Joe Bob Briggs ever since the 90s. I subscribed to Shudder just to check out his new show, and I'm so happy to see that he hasn't missed a beat! 'The Last Drive In' delivers, and thankfully Shudder hasn't toned down Briggs' non-pc humor.

Amazing

This is one of the greatest shows to ever grace television. Perfection in its purest form, bloody.

Hilarious!

Thanks for coming back Joe Bob! Your wealth of knowledge on, well everything apparently, is truly astounding. Darcy is great too, love the interactions between you two! My favorite show.

For the True Horror Connoisseurs

Those of us who grew up in the 60s and 70s remember it well- when the muti-screen cinemas (we didn't call them "cineplexes" then) came to town and suddenly our beloved drive-ins stopped showing all the first-run flicks. They resorted to showing the worst, most disgusting, depraved, violently gross (or grossly violent) low-budget horror movies ever dug out of the slop trough, and we kept going to the drive-in. Why? Because that miasma of gore and chaos was, 9 times out of 10, much easier to take than the horror show going on in our own homes. So we sat there, gorging ourselves on rancid hot dogs, popcorn, Jujubes and soda while we watched the mutant babies, bloodthirsty butchers and mama's murdering boys do their thing on the giant screen.

Years later, when it became possibly to actually rent a DVD player and a movie, did you reach for one of those flicks, as I did? (Mine was HG Lewis' "Wizard of Gore." What was yours?)

We thought we were alone, and weird-mutants ourselves, in fact-until we met "Joe Bob Briggs" the character created by the positively brilliant John Bloom, and we realized that, hey! Not only does he like these movies, he knows a boatload about them! AND, while watching "The Last Drive-In," we have found a gigantic community of other mutants and we are welcomed by them and they GET IT. They are just as able to enjoy a classic like "Nosferatu" as they are to enjoy a crazy mess like "HOGZILLA!" The bonus of the show? The effervescent "Darcy the Mail Girl!" She interacts with fans, gives Joe Bob the what-for when required, cosplays, and has an eye-roll for the record books!

This show is not for everyone, and that's ok. Because in spite of the bullying and other tortures many TLDI fans endured when we were young, we always knew WE were special! 😉

A Shell of the Earlier Episodes

I stumbled upon this show a few years ago on Shudder. Some of the movies they show are way too gory for my taste but I enjoyed watching Joe Bob's commentary. He has a conversational tone when talking about the movies and digs into details about the writing, production and directing. He would also dig up facts about the historical event or person the film may have been based upon. That is what I enjoyed because it wasn't a show just fawning over the actors in the movie they were showing.

My favorite of his episodes are the one where he talks about Tobe Hooper's career. It will bring you to tears when he talks about how Tobe just couldn't catch a break in trying to move from indie to big budget movies. Another monologue that is really good is one in which is discusses why an aspiring filmmaker should stop making excuses and just start making a movie. I could go on with my favorites but there are way too many.

When the show started out the character of the mail girl was mostly off screen. Occasionally Joe Bob might ask her about the audience comments on social media or her reaction to the movie. At the end of the episode he would bring her out so she could give a letter from a viewer of the show. He would read the letter then end the show with a silly joke.

Sadly this new season has become the Joe Bob and Darcy the mail girl show. They try to make it seem as if she is having a conversation with Joe Bob about the movie but it is obvious it is all scripted. When they had an actress from one of the movies on the show, Darcy's idea of an interview is to talk to the actress about all the things they have in common. That is not an interview, it is a boring conversation between two people. Darcy would always do cosplay based on a character in the movie. Now that cosplay has evolved into silly skits. Most of the skits or conversations always end with Darcy making Joe Bob look like an idiot. Also, they have incorporated wrestlers into the show as guests since Darcy is a fan of wrestling. It seems as if they are pushing her on the audience in order to try to launch her own show or take over the Last Drive-In.

I miss the original format of the show. The mail girl needs to go back to being a mainly offscreen character and let Joe Bob talk about the movie. The low rating reflects the new season. I would have given the earlier seasons a 9 or 10 star rating.

The Horror Gods Have Answered!

Thank you SHUDDER for giving back to the horror community...reincarnating the horror hosts of old with a horror host of old! Joe Bob lights the nostalgic candles and waxes poetic on all manners of horrors and exploitation like only he can. He's a little more pointed politically, which is a welcomed addition to an already air-tight repertoire of sarcasm, wit, drive-in totals, and commentary. There is nothing better to fall asleep to than the sweet sounds of Joe Bob slinging a diatribe about the sleaze-fest PIECES. Give us more, SHUDDER, for heaven's sake, give us more Joe Bob Briggs!!!!!

Let's be real

If you're comparing this show to other styles of shows, you're engaging in an exercise in futility and not that bright. This show, for what it is, is best in class. Joe Bob knows his movies and brings a wealth of knowledge to each episode. Paired with his wit and humor, his knowledge makes even the cheesiest movies interesting.

Can't wait for new episodes in season 3! Joe Bob was the best horror host in the 80s and 90s, and he's the best now.

Love the show but...

It is growing further and further from what I love about it. I think this has a lot to do with Darcy's increasing popularity and bringing in PC followers who just want to be part of her clan instead of a fan of the show and horror in general. She is the problem with all of current life. She's 100% fake. Fake body, fake face, fake accent, fake character. Fake fake fake. Joe Bob is the real deal. Darcy has little to no insight on anything she is asked to expand on. Joe Bob can spit out a ton of ideas, thoughts, theories, funny antidotes, and entertaining rants that show his wisdom. Darcy just shows her body and annoying voice that says a whole lotta nothing.

And to top it all off, they are playing on the feminist trend where the woman demeans the man and tells him to stop talking because he's not interesting. This comes from a woman who has zero interesting qualities towards a man who is actually interesting. She is a social media influencer through and through, and this is why I dislike her growing involvement in the show. She is Joe Bob's Yoko and will run this show into the ground.

Just like everything else in life, the show is beginning to cater to new superficial fans instead of the old loyal fans.

Stop with the political rants and get back to monstervision humor

Nobody wants to constantly hear about transgender bathrooms, Colin Capernik and Donald Trump.

What happened to those bad jokes like the one about your subwoofers on your old car.

This show could be so much better. It seems forced where monstervision sand summer school seemed more natural.

Boomer Humor.

I heard good things about this show and I was expecting it to be a refreshing movie marathon type of show. I live for terrible B-films and horror films.

However, I'm always whipped with outdated adult humor and a boomer mindset. I watched one episode from each season and special hoping the humor and unnecessary comments about actors, characters, and themes would change, but it stays consistent. It feels wrong and disrespectful at times. I feel like these people are stuck in 2009 with their certain views of people and topics. I can tell there's a lot of heart put into this show from the cast, but the humor and comments that are made are just ... no.

You can disagree with me that's fine, I'm just giving you my two cents.

What a joke

What a joke. I can't believe these hoedown hillbillies they bring in. Can't stomach to watch this. You guys really really need to bring back Chris Hardwick with talking dead. He was so great with all of the dead universe replacing Chris Hardwick with this joke of a character is like trying to replace Rick Grimes with some other actor you just don't do that to the show. This last drive-in thing is about as ridiculous as Elvira was. Please bring back Chris Hardwick and talking dead. We need him to follow up every episode of the ones who live, and Daryl Dixon And whatever spinoff The Walking Dead universe brings our way we need Chris back!!!!
