Confessional

Dashboard Confessional Is an Endearing Sleeve-Tat Dad on ‘All the Truth That I Can Tell’
Image
“I feel heavy,” Chris Carraba sings on “Burning Heart,” the first song on All the Truth That I Can Tell, the first new Dashboard Confessional album in four years. We’re right there with you, man.

For most of the 21st century, Carraba, the artist concurrently known as Dashboard Confessional, pretty well embodied the idea of “emo.” Older punks might take issue with this, but for fans perhaps not even alive in ‘85, Dashboard’s deadly earnest version of that amorphous genre tag has meant everything from college-cafe acoustic tunes (emo as shout-along folk,...

Confessional Booth Psychological Thriller Film 'Confessional' Trailer
Vanessa Marano, Jake Short, Brandon Larracuente, Marcus Scribner, Lucas Adams, Paris Berelc, Annalisa Cochrane, Jess Gabor, and Mia Xitlali in Confessional (2019)
"Is there something you want to confess?" Rlje Films has debuted a full trailer for an indie psychological thriller titled Confessional, made by filmmaker Brad T. Gottfred (Orgies and the Meaning of Life). This originally premiered at the Chattanooga Film Festival last year, and is already streaming on Shudder if you want to catch it now. After two seemingly unconnected deaths at a college on the same night, seven students receive invitations to a confessional booth hidden on campus. Uh oh... Their confessions slowly unveil the truth behind the deaths and the mysterious person who brought all of them to the booth. Confessional stars Marcus Scribner, Vanessa Marano, Lucas Adams, Jess Gabor, Brandon Larracuente, Jake Short, Annalisa Cochrane, Paris Berelc, and Mia Xitali. This is a cool concept, but it's not easy to pull this off as a film. From the looks of it, this will certainly by suspenseful. I...

‘Succession’ Star Nicholas Braun Reveals Whether Cousin Greg Has a Future in Music
Image
Emmy-nominated actor Nicholas Braun, who plays the beloved character Cousin Greg on HBO’s “Succession,” is following in Kendall Roy’s footsteps by trying his hand at music.

Braun released a song called “Antibodies” earlier this week. Inspired to write the tune during the coronavirus lockdown, he crowd-sourced lyrics via Instagram, asking musicians to help with verses to the melodies he had stuck in his head.

After an overwhelming response, the music, lyrics and video (watch it above) came together. Variety caught up with Braun to talk “Antibodies” and whether he sees a musical future for Cousin Greg on the show, which won an Emmy for last year — and is nominated again — for outstanding original main title theme music.

Your May Instagram post had over 150,000 views, were you surprised at the reaction?

Totally! I was staying at my friend’s guest house in LA and I wasn’t posting a lot of stuff.

Here’s What’s Still Open for Business in Hollywood

Editor’s note: The list is constantly updated. Dates refer to when announcements were made, or when an event is scheduled to happen.

You’ve probably seen our other Covid-19 list, the one where we are examining every cancellation that has taken place as the pandemic takes hold in our community. This is the counterpoint to that “Houston, we have a problem” list; this is the one where we’ll talk about how the show must go on, how the Force will be with us, and, maybe most importantly, how we’ll be back.

IndieWire will continue to update this page with the latest breaking news regarding virtual events, work logistics, TV premieres, and general acts of bravery and kindness. This is the place where we’ll be documenting our return to normalcy — and make no mistake, we’ll get through this. The most recent updates will be posted at...
