With the upcoming release of Warfare, Alex Garland is once again poised to make waves within the film industry. Thus far, the war movie has received stellar praise thanks to a recent, early showing.

For those unfamiliar, Garland is renowned for his amazing screenplays, which include Dredd, Sunshine, Never Let Me Go, and 28 Days Later. He also steps behind the camera occasionally, having directed Ex Machina, Annihilation, Men, and the more recent, Civil War.

Garland is now back behind the director's chair for Warfare, which was co-written and directed by Ray Mendoza, a former Iraq War Navy Seal.

Having Michael Gandolfini as a scene partner on Disney+’s Daredevil: Born Again has an extra layer of meaning for Vincent D’Onofrio, who as an East Coast-based actor had crossed paths with Michael’s father, James Gandolfini, a time or two.

“We spent some time together, James and I…,” D’Onofrio shared with TVLine of the Emmy-winning Sopranos front man who passed away in June 2013. (Fun fact: they both had roles in the 1993 rom-com Mr. Wonderful, starring Matt Dillon and Annabella Sciorra.)

It seems only right that a crowd of veterans were the first to see Warfare, U.S. Navy Seal Ray Mendoza’s feature directorial debut, co-written and co-directed with Alex Garland.

On Wednesday night, A24 put on a special screening of the film at the L.A. American Legion Theater, with many of the real men behind the story present among the military community in the audience.

Warfare reunites Garland with Civil War military advisor Mendoza and this film plays out real events in real-time, based on Mendoza and his platoon’s experience on a mission in Iraq in 2006. When things take a very extreme turn, the Platoon must find a way out, with all of their lives hanging in the balance.

During a post-screening Q&a, Garland said of working with the veterans involved: “I’m a civilian and we hear about the military, and people sometimes think they understand, and they don’t.

Jon Bernthal is one of the greatest - and most underrated - actors working today. Best known for playing The Punisher among comic book fans, the Daredevil: Born Again star has delivered stellar performances in everything from The Bear to The Wolf of Wall Street and The Many Saints of Newark.

Now, he's geared up for Christopher Nolan's new movie The Odyssey. This retelling of the epic poem composed by Homer in the 8th Century also stars the McU's Spider-Man, Tom Holland, and both actors have been spotted in costume today.

While we believe the latter is playing Telemachus, the son of Odysseus, after some other recent images, there's no word on who Bernthal might be bringing to life in the fantasy epic.

We're used to seeing Bernthal with a beard, but the bald head is new and he certainly wouldn't be mistaken for Frank Castle right now. Daredevil: Born Again...

Gandolfini Jr.'s breakout part was playing a young Tony Soprano in "The Many Saints of Newark," literally stepping into his father's shoes.

Fisk himself is a Tony Soprano-ish character; a tall, overweight but imposing mob boss with some parental issues. Granted, Fisk's are about his abusive father who he murdered, while Tony is haunted most by his mother Livia. Tony also never had a masked vigilante like Matt Murdock aka Daredevil (Charlie Cox) to deal with. (But can you imagine?)

Tony can be all smiles and jokes, while Fisk is more awkward; what they do share is a scary temper.

Following what's been described as a "Herculean" creative overhaul, the decision was made to being Marvel Television's revival series more in line with the original Netflix series, and this involved bringing Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson back as Matt Murdock's besties, Karen Page and Foggy Nelson.

"[They are] the heart and soul of this mythology," Scardapane said of the pair. "You get so much more out of Daredevil as a character, as a human being. Karen and Foggy are the family structure for our orphan Matt, and it was very important to have them.

Fresh off the success of Civil War, Alex Garland and A24's latest collaboration, Warfare, has officially received its theatrical release date.

Per Deadline, the Iraq war film, Warfare, will hit theaters on April 11, 2025. Garland directs alongside Navy Seal veteran Ray Mendoza and both are credited as screenwriters. Big casting news has just been revealed for The Odyssey, the next feature film from acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan. The film, which features Tom Holland in a starring role, has just added another fan favorite Marvel actor to the cast.

By the time director Alex Garland’s film Civil War (you can read our review Here) was released earlier this year, Garland was already working on another war movie called Warfare, co-directing it with Ray Mendoza, who served as the military supervisor for Civil War. Garland and Mendoza also wrote the screenplay together. While Civil War was a dystopian film that imagined a new Civil War breaking out in the United States, Warfare is set during a real war, the story taking viewers back to 2006 Iraq. A24 will be giving the film a theatrical release sometime in 2025, but even though a specific release date has not yet been announced, the first trailer for the film has been unveiled. “Wonder Woman” and “Monster” director Patty Jenkins is lending her cache to the team behind “Tea,” an offbeat comedy about loneliness starring Michael Gandolfini.

In the short, written and directed by emerging filmmaker Blake Rice, Gandolfini plays a lonely and highly allergic Circuit-Shack employee, who is rehearsing asking out the girl of his dreams (Olivia Nikkanen) when he gets stung in the throat by a hornet. As he goes into anaphylactic shock, the pair have to find a way to communicate as the young woman races to save his life.

“With ‘Tea,’ Blake Rice has made a delightful and original short film with tons of charm and great execution. Definitely the emergence of a great new voice in the medium,” Jenkins said of boarding the project.

Long before Game of Thrones traumatized the world with the brutal, divisive, and merciless slashing of on-screen favorites every other episode, HBO began the trend with The Sopranos. The darkly humorous series took a gritty storyline about mob life in New Jersey and turned it into a rendition of whack-a-mole with its characters.

With time, creator David Chase became infamous for the ruthless cruelty with which he disposed of his own beloved creations. Meanwhile, the show became the epicenter of much controversy and debate with its non-committal deaths, pitiless betrayals, and one very scandalous ending.

But it was one episode in Season 2 of The Sopranos that started it all.

Michael Gandolfini’s star rose sharply with his appearance in 2021 The Sopranos prequel The Many Saints of Newark as a young Tony Soprano, the fictitious crime boss immortalized by his late father James Gandolfini.

The role saw him splashed across the culture and entertainment pages at home and worldwide, after a series of youthful, smaller parts including alongside Tom Holland in Cherry.

Gandolfini has since racked up credits on half a dozen features and series including Cat Person, Beau Is Afraid and Bob Marley: One World and is soon to be seen in Alex Garland and Ray Mendoza’s Iraqi War drama Warfare and upcoming Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again, for which he is confirmed in season 2.

A serendipitous outcome of The Many Saints of Newark was his friendship with producer and actor Gabriella Piazza, who played Joanne Moltisanti in the show, who in turn introduced him to emerging director Blake Rice.

“One Piece” creator Eiichiro Oda is giving his official thumbs up on Season 2 of the Netflix original. The creator visited the set in Cape Town, South Africa, and shared his thoughts with fans.
