Oscar-winning legend Paul Newman appeared in dozens of films throughout his lengthy career, but how many of those titles are classics? Let’s take a look back at 20 of Newman’s greatest movies, ranked worst to best.
For years Newman was the perpetual Oscar bridesmaid, racking up failed Best Actor nominations for “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” (1958), “The Hustler” (1961), “Hud” (1963), “Cool Hand Luke” (1967), “Absence of Malice” (1981), and “The Verdict” (1982), as well as a Best Picture bid for producing “Rachel, Rachel” (1968). The Academy handed him an Honorary Award in 1985, only to give him a competitive prize the very next year for “The Color of Money” (1986). He scored subsequent bids in lead for “Nobody’s Fool” (1994) and supporting for “Road to Perdition” (2002).

"Till" is set up at MGM's Orion Pictures, and the studio will kick off production on the film this September in Atlanta.
"Till" is about Mamie Till-Mobley, who led a pursuit for justice for her 14-year-old son Emmett Louis Till, choosing to have an open casket at her son's funeral following his gruesome murder in 1955 after he was accused of offending a white woman in a grocery store. Mamie chose to have Jet magazine publish the horrific photos at the funeral, which became a galvanizing moment that helped lead to the creation of the civil rights movement.

Songwriter Dan Penn doesn’t put out albums under his name very often. The celebrated co-writer behind numerous Memphis/Muscle Shoals-era soul hits, including “Do Right Woman, Do Right Man,” “Dark End of the Street,” “I’m Your Puppet,” and “Cry Like a Baby” has released only a handful of studio recordings since 1973, beginning with his solo debut Nobody’s Fool.
Penn’s latest, Living on Mercy, comes 26 years after his previous effort, 1994’s Do Right Man. The 78-year-old songwriter doesn’t have a specific explanation for why that is.

We are officially halfway through the first season of Snowpiercer, and now with the murder mystery all wrapped up, it’s time to get down to business. Or so I thought heading into this week’s programming. This latest episode, entitled “Trouble Comes Sideways,” puts the brewing class warfare on hold so that Melanie and those in charge of keeping the Snowpiercer rolling along can deal with a near-catastrophe that threatens the very lives of every single passenger aboard.
The opening montage shows us that trouble is brewing for the titular train in a multitude for ways: not only do we see some electrical gear short-circuiting but there seems to be an uprising about to happen amongst the Third Class passengers who are planning to strike as a means to get justice for Nikki and the sham trial that allowed Lj Folger (Annalise Basso) to walk free despite being found guilty.

Streamer's Choice: "Nobody's Fool"
Because so many of our readers find themselves house-bound during this period of Coronavirus, we'll be providing occasional reviews of films and series currently available on popular streaming services.
By Lee Pfeiffer
Paul Newman gives a delightful, Oscar-nominated late career performance in "Nobody's Fool", a comedy/drama written and directed by Robert Benton. Newman plays Sully Sullivan, a 60 year-old lovable cad who finds himself down on his luck in his boyhood hometown of Bath, in upstate New York. He barely scrapes by doing odd jobs for Carl Roebuck (an inexplicably unbilled Bruce Willlis), the obnoxious owner of a local construction company. The two men are sworn enemies but they maintain a relationship because they mutually benefit. Sully makes his home in the boarding house of the elderly widow, Beryl Peoples (Jessica Tandy), who showers him with maternal love. The feeling is mutual and Sully acts as handyman and confidant to Beryl.

This weekend sees four new wide releases hitting theaters, though it will be WB's Shazam! enjoying a second go round as the weekend's number one film. As for the week's new releases, look for Hellboy and Little in what could be a tight race for runner-up position, while Laika's latest, Missing Link, vies for a spot in the top five and Aviron's After settles near the bottom of the top ten. After a solid start last weekend, which saw Shazam! exceed industry expectations, the superhero feature is likely to take a bit of a dive this weekend, though should remain in the top spot barring an over performance from a couple of the weekend's newcomers. We're currently anticipating a -58% dip for a three-day around $22.5 million and a ~$92 million domestic cume by the end of the weekend. Second place could be a tight race between Lionsgate's R-rated adaptation...

Sister Act has just tapped Insecure co-executive producer Regina Hicks and Star showrunner Karin Gist to write the sequel. The sequel is reportedly being developed for the Disney+ streaming platform. The studio originally wanted to make a Sister Act remake back in 2015, but those plans ultimately fell through. However, Disney is now moving forward with a soft reboot that will reportedly focus on a brand-new cast and have no involvement with original star Whoopi Goldberg.
As for what Sister Act 3 will be about, the details are currently under wraps for the time being. The original movie was about Whoopi Goldberg's casino lounge singer character who witnesses a mob hit. She is later offered witness protection by the police and poses as a nun named Sister Mary Clarence at a Catholic parish. The movie was a hit, grossing $231.6 million worldwide, becoming the eighth-highest-grossing film in 1992. A sequel followed in 1993, but it...

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald easily took the number one spot at this weekend's box office, generating $62.2 million domestically. The debut earned over $12 million less than the first installment, but had a huge weekend overseas, bringing in an additional $191 million, which brings the grand total to an impressive $253.2 million globally. Harry Potter fans have taken to the movie, but it has been suffering from mixed reviews. However, it will more than likely bring in some extra earnings during the upcoming holiday break.
Illumination's The Grinch held in strong to take the number two position at this weekend's box office, sneaking away with another $38.1 million. The animated family movie has earned $151.7 million globally since premiering last weekend. Number three this weekend goes to the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, which generated $15.7 million. Last weekend, The Grinch kicked off the holiday season with a massive $67.5 million box office take. But there will be a new champion in town as Fantastic Beasts 2 looks to cast a spell on moviegoers. Also opening this weekend will be the Mark Wahlberg comedy Instant Family and director Steve McQueen's female-led heist drama Widows, which are both heading towards solid debuts as well.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, which sees David Yates return to the director's chair, with Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling penning the screenplay, will win the weekend with anywhere between $65 and $75 million domestically. For the first time since early February the top three films at the weekend box office were all new releases and leading the way was Fox's Bohemian Rhapsody with a $50 million, chart-topping performance, well above expectations. Disney's The Nutcracker and the Four Realms finished at the lower end of industry estimates in second place, followed Paramount's release of Nobody's Fool. That said, the weekend isn't all about new releases as the holdovers had a solid weekend of their own, with A Star is Born, Venom and Smallfoot all dipping less than 27% in what amounts to their fifth and sixth weekends respectively, helping aid a continually healthy 2018 box office performance overall. At the top of the charts, Fox's Bohemian Rhapsody endured word of a troubled production as the film that was eight years in the making topped the domestic box office with a $50 million debut from 4,000 locations. On top of that,...

Bohemian Rhapsody took number one at this weekend's box office, having earned $50 million domestically. The Queen biopic, which stars Rami Malek as iconic front man Freddie Mercury, took in an extra $91.7 million overseas, bringing the grand total to $141.7 million globally. While the film has been making a killing at the box office, the biopic has been getting mixed reviews, with many criticizing the portrayal of Mercury on the big screen as unrealistic to how he was in real-life. However, Queen is one of the biggest bands in the world, which makes for an unsurprising debut at number one.
The Nutcracker and the Four Realms also made its debut this weekend with a disappointing $20 million, which earned the number two spot. $20 million is still pretty strong, but doesn't really make a blip on the radar when compared to the $120 million that it cost to produce the movie. The Disney movie made $58.5 million globally this weekend.

Tyler Perry and Whoopi Goldberg want to make Sister Act 3 with Tiffany Haddish. Goldberg has been very vocal about wanting to make the sequel, but says Disney wants to reboot the franchise with a new cast and only have the actress in for a cameo. It's been 25 years since we last saw Goldberg as Deloris Van Cartier, and a sequel is long overdue. It's beginning to look like Perry and Goldberg may have some tricks hidden up their sleeves to get it done.

As of now, Bohemian Rhapsody is tracking to earn $35 million-$40 million for the weekend, although it could easily sing louder. On the heels of a monster October, which saw the month deliver record calendar grosses totaling over $800 million domestically for the first time ever, November 2018 hopes to follow suit. Originally set to star Sacha Baron Cohen as Freddie Mercury, the first iteration of Bohemian Rhapsody, telling the story of the iconic rock band Queen, got underway in 2010. After five years of ups and downs, production finally got underway in 2015 with director Bryan Singer and star Rami Malek. Halloween has carved up the box office for two weeks straight, winning its second weekend in a row, bringing in $31.4 million. But Michael Myers is going to have to surrender the title this weekend as Queen is coming to rock you in the biopic Bohemian Rhapsody. Plus, a couple of indie titles are getting expansions in the form of Suspiria and Beautiful Boy.

Make no mistake: Tiffany Haddish is a hustler. In the new comedy Nobody's Fool (in theaters Friday), her street-smart character completes a prison stint, only to learn her sister is now in an online relationship with a man who might be catfishing her. "Best way to get over a man, is to get up under a new one." Paramount has released a final red band trailer for Nobody's Fool, the new comedy from filmmaker Tyler Perry, which is just a bit different than his Madea films in the past. The full cast includes Whoopi Goldberg, Missi Pyle, Courtney Henggeler, Omari Hardwick, Amber Riley, and Crystal Lee Brown. The first trailer didn't look that great, and this one looks even worse, despite the "dirty" humor that they're allowed to include in this red band trailer. Just not my knid of comedy. Have fun. In the midst of the Viacom-CBS merger melee, Paramount Pictures is turning itself around and can celebrate the fact that their low budget horror thriller A Quiet Place has bested Universal/Blumhouse’s Get Out at the domestic box office, $176.5M to $176M. And the John Krasinski-directed movie which stars himself and his wife Emily Blunt isn’t slowing down eight weekends after its release with a recent 3-day of $3.9M at 2,327 locations. Next to other horror thrillers stateside, A Quiet Place is arguably the fifth best after It ($327.5M), The Sixth Sense ($293.5M), Jaws ($260M), and The Exorcist ($232.9M).
In addition this past weekend, Paramount outstripped the $9M-$10M tracking for its older-femme skewing title Book Club which turned in a $13.58M opening; not too shabby for a movie that the studio acquired U.S./UK/France rights on for a reported $10M at last year’s Afm.
