Cynthia Erivo’s journey to Egot goes back to her performance as Celie in the most recent Broadway revival of “The Color Purple.” After winning the Tony for Best Actress (Musical) in 2016, she went on to take home the Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album as a principal soloist on the cast recording and an Emmy in the now retired category of Best On-Camera Musical Performance in a Daytime Program for when the cast performed on “The Today Show.” This year, she received two Oscar nominations for Kasi Lemmons’ biographical film, “Harriet” in two different categories: Best Actress and Best Song for co-writing “Stand Up” with Joshuah Brian Campbell. While Erivo’s likely not going to take down the current Best Actress frontrunner, Renee Zellweger (“Judy”), could her narrative of being a double nominee help complete her Egot in Best Song?

I have spent a large portion of my adult life being angry about the disparity between men and women in the arts industry. That was until 2019. Because that’s when I won a Tony Award for producing “Hadestown.” Here’s what I can tell you: Awards are nice, checks are better. It was a lesson taught to me through the years by many important industry heavyweights, including Whoopi Goldberg, an Egot winner. In fairness, one might need to experience both to really understand the magnitude of that statement, but from my experience it’s true.
Obviously, there has been a fantastic leap in the number of female protagonists in the top 100 films — up from 31% in 2018 to 40% in 2019 — but women still only accounted for 10.6% of the directors of those top hits. Those statistics are magnified by the fact that only five women have ever been nominated for the Best Director Oscar...

Slavery and the Civil War are pivots of American history, and over the years, Hollywood has covered both from nearly every conceivable angle. There’s been the slaveholder perspective (“Gone with the Wind”), the slave perspective (“12 Years a Slave”), the Union and Confederate soldier perspective, the Presidential perspective (“Lincoln”) and the Quentin Tarantino revenge-fantasy perspective (“Django Unchained”). After the Oscar haul of 2013’s definitive “12 Years a Slave,” the last thing we needed was yet another slave story.

We're only three months away from the No Time to Die release and we still have no announcement as to who is providing the theme. This has led to a lot of speculation, but Beyoncé seems to be fueling the flames, thanks to a recent social media post. As usual, her rabid fan base is quite excited at the prospect of her doing something so big. Mainly because it means new music.
The speculation started to fire up after the Golden Globe Awards. Beyoncé Knowles and her husband Jay-Z attended the event and the after party, where they brought their own Ace of Spades Champagne. The popstar shared a few pictures from the night, but there's one in particular that fans are examining further. In said image, Beyoncé can be seen taking a sip from...
