Jenna Ortega has gained widespread attention after her breakout role in the Netflix series Wednesday. She has been in the industry for quite some time and has been taking on roles since she was a kid. She was one of the main characters in the Disney Channel series Stuck in the Middle, playing Harley Diaz.
I won’t blame you if you didn’t recognize her from any of this and instead were introduced to the American actress via the popular TikTok video that made rounds on the internet—the iconic scene from Wednesday where she dances to Lady Gaga’s Bloody Mary. However, with her rising popularity, there was speculation that she might star in a Marvel movie, mainly due to Marvel’s reputation for casting up-and-coming actors.

A critically acclaimed 2014 historical drama climbed streaming charts following a related national holiday, becoming a success just one day later. Historical dramas have depicted plenty of important events throughout history, many of which are real events that had an important impact on the world. Some of the best historical drama movies of all time include Steven Spielberg's Schindler's List, Mel Gibson's Braveheart, and some reflecting more modern events, such as Black Hawk Down. These films have stood the test of time as important parts of film history as a whole.
However, there have also been movies about particular instances in American history that have proven to be important and timely. This includes stories about civil rights, everything from the 2013 biopic 12 Years a Slave, to the 2013 drama Lee Daniels' The Butler. These films underscore the regrettable elements of the United States' history, but continue to resonate because of...

Chris Hemsworth's path to superstardom has been paved by franchise films. One of his first roles was playing George Kirk in the 2009 film Star Trek. The supporting role was high profile and paved the way for other opportunities. Two years after he played that role, he made his Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) debut playing the titular god in Thor. Hemsworth would reprise his thunderous role in many MCU films, getting both solo and group features in the Avengers movies.
Outside the MCU, Hemsworth has been in both one-off and other franchise films. He plays the Huntsman in the Snow White and the Hunstman movies as well as a supporting character in the 2016 remake of Ghostbusters. He also dabbled in the Men in Black franchise through his role in Men in Black: International, and even played a Mad Max villain in last year's Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, which was a prequel to Fury Road.

Now available on Paramount+, Brian Helgeland's crime thriller Finestkind polarized audiences and critics upon release in December 2023. Popular Hollywood starlet Jenna Ortega stars in the film as Mabel, a petty drug dealer who meets a group of shipwrecked fishermen and drives a wedge between estranged half-brothers Tom (Ben Foster) and Charlie (Toby Wallace).
Although the film has fared better among general audiences and casual moviegoers than professional film critics, both groups cite similar reasons for its divisive detractors. Ortega fans on the fence about giving Finestkind a chance should prepare for excellent performances and a compelling family tale lost in a sea of confounding melodramatic storytelling and tonal inconsistencies.

Jenna Ortega rose to the ranks of A-listers, and she is now working with the biggest stars in the industry. In fact, her collaboration with Oscar awardee Tommy Lee Jones is proof that she has made it big in Hollywood. However, their movie together did not prove to be successful.

What’s more upsetting is that they worked on this project called Finestkind with famed producer Taylor Sheridan. Chances are, you haven’t watched or heard about this movie until today. Or, if you’re familiar with this, it means you know it flopped critically.
Jenna Ortega and Tommy Lee Jones’ Finestkind Failed to Impress the Critics
Finestkind premiered on Paramount+ last year, and many critics aired their frustration over the film. The majority described it as a mess, but more importantly, they blamed director and writer Brian Helgeland for wasting such a stellar cast.

Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone has become a standout TV show. It has spawned a universe of its own, consisting of different stories set in the Dutton family's history. 1883 and 1923 both explored the origins of the family, while The Madison, 1944, and 6666 are all poised to explore other parts of the universe. The story of the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch is expansive, so it is no surprise that it has managed to see multiple spin-offs and prequels. As Paramount+'s leading franchise, it remains a constant presence on the platform.
Of course, Sheridan has also been working on other shows at the same time. Since Yellowstone's release, he has created a variety of other shows, including The Last Cowboy, Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King, Lioness,...

Known for her sharp wit, dark humor, and remarkable talent, Jenna Ortega’s rise in Hollywood has been quite remarkable. Even though the young actress began her acting career at just 9 years old, all it took was one role to really put her on the map. From her breakout role as Harley Diaz in Disney’s ‘Stuck in the Middle’ (2016-2018) to her captivating portrayal of Wednesday Addams in Tim Burton’s ‘Wednesday’ (2022-), Ortega has consistently demonstrated that she is far more than a rising star. Her ability to tackle a range of roles with much depth and nuance has led many to compare her to Aubrey Plaza, but Ortega is carving her own path in the industry. The young actress stands out for her versatility and her distinct ability to bring complex characters to life. As her career continues to soar, Ortega is rapidly becoming one of the...

It's been a long time since the cast of Batman Forever last joined forces to create the first major Batman film following the exit of Tim Burton from the franchise, and its stars have ended up in many different place since. As far as Batman movies go, Batman Forever sits in an odd place. The film is comically cheesy, stepping away from the darkness of Batman Returns to poor reception, but is perhaps underrated as a whole, with more than a few enjoyable aspects. Of these, some of the film's performances are worthy of note.
The cast of Batman Forever is an eclectic bunch, with several noteworthy names in Hollywood sharing marquee space with some relative unknowns. Since the film's release, many of its actors have fallen into varying levels of fame, especially in comparison to the even more star-studded cast of Batman & Robin, the film's infamous sequel. There are several new Taylor Sheridan shows set for release in the next year or two, including more set in the Sheridanverse the director's shared universe. Sheridan's rise to fame began with neo-western hit Yellowstone (2018 - ), and Paramount has since created multiple spin-offs, including 1883 and 1923. From there, Sheridan further extended his reach into the comedic drama genre with the unconnected Tulsa King. Considering the number of ongoing and upcoming shows, Paramount seems to be well aware that they have a good thing going on and are throwing their full support behind the Yellowstone creator.
In the last year, Sheridan has consistently put out new content, along with developing what is yet to come. Most recently, Lawmen: Bass Reeves launched on Paramount+, along with his film, Finestkind. Now, Sheridan has a number of other upcoming projects both outside and inside the Yellowstone timeline. Thanks to his success, the filmmaker has...

Jenna Ortega is opening up about the best advice given to her in her career, and how that advice helped her gain confidence in her abilities. Speaking to Vanity Fair recently, she discusses how the advice allowed her to fully tackle her doubts and insecurities, especially when doing something new. During the interview, Ortega recalls the best advice given to her was that of her cello instructor for Netflix's acclaimed series Wednesday. Her titular character plays the cello, and while Ortega herself doesn't play, she wanted her movements to be as authentic to the character as possible. She added that she wanted it to look real so that cellists didn't look at it and criticize her performance, approaching the task with the "confidence of the average white man."

Given its warm critical reception and past PGA and SAG Award notices, it makes sense that “Mr. Monk’s Last Case” has maintained a massive lead over its Best TV Movie competitors ever since we opened our 2024 Emmys predictions center. However, because the original “Monk” was never even nominated for Best Comedy Series during its eight-season run, the one-off Peacock continuation can’t exactly be considered a shoo-in. In truth, it faces quite a few strong challengers, including the laugh-packed Netflix offering “Unfrosted.”
Hours before its May 3 premiere, “Unfrosted” rose above its 100/1 Gold Derby odds and pulled ahead of both “Finestkind” and “Genie” to become this year’s seventh most likely TV movie nominee. Its next immediate challenge is passing sixth place runner “Scoop” (also from Netflix), which is currently a predicted nominee among our editors and experts.

After delivering the definitive Batman with Batman: The Animated Series, Bruce Timm joined forces with Alan Burnett to give the other member of the World’s Finest a similar treatment. Voiced by Tim Daly, Superman: The Animated Series made its debut in 1996, and is often considered the definitive onscreen portrayal of the character, only next to Christopher Reeve.
But despite its success, Daly wasn’t brought back to voice Clark Kent in Justice League Unlimited, and The Sopranos star had a pretty good idea about why it was the case.

Miller's Girl is an R-rated movie due to sexual content, language, and teen smoking and drinking. The movie stars Jenna Ortega, who is known for R-rated roles including many in the horror genre. Controversy surrounds the film for its age-gap relationship and inappropriate teacher-student dynamic.
Miller's Girl is an R-rated movie for a variety of reasons. The 2024 erotic thriller, which premiered on Netflix in April after a theatrical release in January, was the directorial debut of Jade Halley Bartlett, who also wrote and executive-produced the project. Despite featuring a star-studded cast that includes Black Panther's Martin Freeman, Top Gun: Maverick's Bashir Salahuddin, and Succession's Dagmara Domiczyk, the movie struggled to make its budget back in theaters, only earning a total of $856,842 at the box office.

Finestkind features a star-studded cast and a gripping story about a fishing crew caught up in drug smuggling, led by Jenna Ortega's character Mabel. The film's authentic Massachusetts setting in New Bedford brings a realistic and textured portrayal to the screen, adding to the overall atmosphere. Shooting locations in Boston and along the Massachusetts coastline helped capture the necessary urban and maritime scenes, enhancing the film's grounded crime thriller and family drama aesthetic.
The new Jenna Ortega film Finestkind has proven to be a popular addition to Paramount+, and the movie is notable for how it portrays its authentic Massachusetts setting. Finestkind's cast also stars Ben Foster, Tommy Lee Jones, and Toby Wallace in leading roles, and they portray the crew of a fishing boat who get caught up in a drug smuggling operation partially run by Ortega's character Mabel. Brian Helgeland's 2001 film "A Knight's Tale" is based on the first of the Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer, but it has as much to do with 14th-century medieval literature as "Wayne's World." The film features characters singing Queen songs and one of the characters invents the Nike "swoop" as a brand for her armor. The story involves William Thatcher (Heath Ledger) a handsome young cove who aims to win jousting tournaments and be welcomed as one of the king's knights. It's a raucous, lightweight, silly movie that is deeply beloved by a very specific age group, that is: those who were between 15 and 17 in May of 2001.
It also depicted Ledger at the height of his heartthrob powers, as well as Paul Bettany (as Chaucer), Rufus Sewell as the villain, Shannyn Sossamon as Ledger's would-be paramour, and a trio of brilliant comedian sidekicks in Mark Addy, Laura Fraser, and Alan Tudyk.

Before you make your 2024 Emmy predictions for Best TV Movie, take a look through our photo gallery featuring the telefilms most likely to land in this year’s lineup. As it stands, Peacock’s “Mr. Monk’s Last Case” (a continuation of the eight-time Emmy-winning 2000s comedy series “Monk”) is comfortably leading the race.
“Mr. Monk’s Last Case” would be the first Peacock movie ever nominated in this category, as would “Genie” or “Shooting Stars.”
Last year, Hulu’s “Fire Island” and “Prey” were both passed over in favor of The Roku Channel’s “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story,” but the streamer could soon avenge those losses with “No One Will Save You,” “Quiz Lady,” or “Self Reliance.”
Netflix – which won this award for three “Black Mirror” installments (2017-2019) as well as “Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square” (2021) – can now achieve its fifth victory with “Scoop” or “Unfrosted.”

While film awards have mostly been steady as they go, despite the WGA and SAG strikes last year, the TV awards timeline has been tied in absolute knots to the point where one deserves an award for even being able to guess which season of a show is in contention.
Normally, an announcement like the 2024 WGA Awards nominations would let us know what new shows are likely to become the next class of Emmy contenders. This year, what sticks out more are the nominees whose awards runs are still chugging along a year after their premieres. All the nominees in the New Series category — “The Diplomat,” “Jury Duty,” “The Last of Us,” “Poker Face,” and “Shrinking” — are for TV seasons that have already just finished their Emmy runs. Aaron Stanford is returning to the MCU, as it was revealed in the Deadpool & Wolverine trailer released during the Superbowl on Sunday. He is reprising the role of Pyro which he portrayed in X2 and X-Men: The Last Stand.

Aaron Stanford, who portrayed John Allerdyce/Pyro in 2003's X2: X-Men United and 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand, recently addressed whether he'd consider reprising his villainous mutant role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Speaking with The Direct about his new Paramount+ movie Finestkind, Stanford couldn't give a definitive answer as to whether he'd reprise Pyro in the MCU. "I'd have to think about it. Actor Aaron Stanford is open to reprising his role as Pyro in the MCU, but he would need to consider it. Stanford's character could potentially appear in Deadpool 3 or Avengers: Secret Wars. Stanford's return would likely be a cameo, as it's possible Pyro will be recast for the McU's X-Men reboot.
Years after his last appearance in 20th Century Fox's X-Men franchise, actor Aaron Stanford has now addressed his potential return in the MCU. Following Disney's acquisition of Fox in 2019, several mutant characters from Marvel Comics have now been able to make appearances in the McU's Multiverse Saga. While Ms. Marvel's Kamala Khan and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever's Namor have been confirmed as mutants in the McU's main continuity, some actors have also reprised their roles from Fox's X-Men Universe, including the likes of Patrick Stewart and Kelsey Grammer, who will soon be joined by Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman.

Jenna Ortega's recent underperforming projects have put more pressure on her upcoming movie "Death Of A Unicorn" to succeed. Ortega's impressive streak of horror roles runs the risk of typecasting her, and branching out into other genres would be beneficial for her career. "Death Of A Unicorn" has the potential to showcase Ortega's comedy chops and could be a great opportunity for her to prove herself in relevant, original projects.
An upcoming Jenna Ortega movie is under more pressure now that two of her recent projects, Finestkind and Miller's Girl, underperformed. By any metric, Ortega has been experiencing an extraordinary career. The actress was always destined for stardom since her first movie role in 2013’s Iron Man 3. Nonetheless, she made a string of ingenious career decisions from 2020 to 2023. Ortega parlayed a supporting role in The Babysitter: Killer Queen into lead parts in both X and Scream, two acclaimed 2022 slasher movies.

Jenna Ortega's recent films have been receiving negative reviews, beginning a trend of low Rotten Tomatoes scores. Ortega's past movies have had mixed receptions from critics, with alternating success and disappointment. The upcoming film Beetlejuice 2, with Ortega in a prominent role, is expected to be a massive hit and could help improve Ortega's critical reputation.
Jenna Ortega's two most recent films have failed to impress critics, but Beetlejuice 2 will likely turn things around. The actor has become America's most recent sweetheart, with projects like Wednesday (2022) elevating her directly into the spotlight. However, since Scream VI's success in 2023, critic opinion of her more recent movies have been on a downward trend. This could be a cause for concern for the young actor's career, and too many more movies with reviews like Miller's Girl could leave a significant stain on Ortega's resume. However, things are likely to start looking up.

Jenna Ortega is teasing a more terrifying Season 2 of “Wednesday.”
The Netflix series, which landed Ortega her first Emmy nomination, will begin filming in April. Ortega told E! News at the 2023 Emmys on Monday, January 15, that the new scripts lean more into the horror elements of the Tim Burton series. Ortega is also serving as an executive producer for the second season.
“I’ve received some scripts for the second season, and we’re definitely leaning into more horror,” Ortega said. “It’s really, really exciting because, all throughout the show, while Wednesday does need a little bit of an arc, she never really changes, and that’s the wonderful thing about her.
Ortega continued, “There’s really, really good one-liners, and I think everything’s bigger. It’s a lot more action-packed. Each episode will probably feel a little bit more like a movie, which is nice.”

Finestkind is not directly based on a true story, but it takes inspiration from real people and events. Director Brian Helgeland drew from his own experiences as a fisherman and the stories of his family to create the film. Despite its long delay in production, Helgeland is proud of Finestkind and considers it his most personal film.
The crime drama thriller Finestkind offers a dark insight into the world of fishing, with the lives of two brothers at risk, but there has been speculation whether it's based on real events or it's a fictional story. The movie follows the lives of two half-brothers, Tom and Charlie, who have led separate lives growing up, but find themselves reunited as adults over one summer, when they work together in commercial fishing; after having their boat impounded, the brothers are forced to make a deal with a drug gang which has sinister consequences.

Finestkind's explosive ending unexpectedly solves many problems for its protagonists, thanks to Ray's help in a violent but effective way. The relationships among the characters in Finestkind prove that their loved ones were willing to go to great lengths to save them, leading to a better outcome for all families involved. Tom and Charlie's bond grows throughout the crime thriller, transforming them from estranged brothers to close and supportive siblings by the end.
Warning! Spoilers about Finestkind ahead.
The Paramount+ crime drama Finestkind had a climactic ending that unexpectedly solved many things for its protagonists, despite what awaited Ray Eldridge after the end of the movie. A family drama at the heart, Finestkind is propelled to its explosive ending after bad luck forces Tom and Charlie’s hand, bringing them to make difficult choices that only turn their already bad situation into a worse one. However, when no good option was left for them,...

The fact that Jenna Ortega won’t be in Scream 7 was a shocking announcement last month (apparently her absence from the sequel is due to a pay dispute), but there are still going to be plenty of chances to see her on our screens regularly. She’s set to start filming Wednesday season 2 in a few months, she’s in the crime thriller Finestkind (which just started streaming on Paramount+ last Friday), and on January 26th she’ll be back on the big screen when Lionsgate gives the psychological thriller Miller’s Girl a theatrical release. With that release date just one month away, a trailer for Miller’s Girl has arrived online and can be seen in the embed above.
