I need more movies like this being put out. I'm not sure why so low in terms of ratings, but I think I know why! More people (who can relate) need to start supporting movies like this, and stop looking at it from rose colored glasses. If you can't relate, just say it, don't put in a bad, or low rating. POC movies never get the recognition they deserve as is (as you can tell by who win's the awards), and all in saying is take yourself, your life, your experiences out of it and learn something! The world is bigger than the 4 corners you've grown up in. Go out, experience life, and maybe then you'll be able to appreciate different types of movies!
This movie highlights living and loving on borrowed time. I appreciate the different themes of family also. Wish we could have seen the males family on screen but it still provided a great dynamic. Definitely captures a feel good love story that isn't short of realism. How refreshing it is to see a story about a man's admiration for a women who would change his whole life. To then see that very women be inspired by that man to tap into her own desires. Every romance movie can give you intimate scenes throughout, but what about ones that highlight hard truths. Overall the storyline was familiar but proved its individuality by encouraging optimism through loving in the present. Also who doesn't love a good Beyoncé reference ! :)
There's much to be said about the film. The first takeaway was the storyline, which left me with the natural emotion of humanness as opposed to a treatise on power relations or other debates of a philophical nature. After all, the reality of an impending death can strip us from our learned intellectual tendencies and force us to face our true essence and what is really important. The story also delivers a sense of true love between two adults and their capacity to fight back together the adversities that they face. The lush cinematography, the play of lights and interiors add to the beauty, the intensity, and the weight of the life that they share. The music is well curated for each phase of the film. Arsema is undoubtedly the leading character who calls the shots. She has the ability to effortlessly navigate and express the plethora of emotions and attitudes that her role requires. She elevates love . I enjoyed watching how the hospital corridor and the nurse desk were transformed into a galactic dance performance. Mali is a science buff in addition to being a sports lawyer, yet she can also fall in love.
What a beautiful and timeless film!! I loved the story line, the casting, the cinematography, truly a showcase of some of the best talent! The soundtrack was also impeccable! Highly recommend again and again!! The lead actress Arsema Thomas was extremely captivating, she dazzled throughout the entire film. A 100/10 performance from all of them and an important perspective on family, community, compassion, and the overcoming and healing power of love, especially black love. It is truly a classic! The cinematography captures you throughout the whole film, really drawing you into the storyline and the characters. Watch it!
Was so excited to watch this after hearing the reviews... safe to say I will never trust yall again. This love was messy, he cheated on her, disrespected her, and lied and she just looked past it. Also the main female character was quite selfish if you ask me. Very unsympathetic about the feelings of people around her and acted as if because she was the sick one her loved ones couldn't be sad because she's the victim... But she is a boss and I love that but I think she deserved so much more. It seems as if she was desperate to hurry and find love so she just took it and ran with it because she thought her time was running short. Bring back true romance. That slow healthy organic love, not lust.
