Fortnite has always had a knack for throwing in the most bizarre and entertaining Easter eggs. One moment, you’re building a fortress in the middle of a battle; the next, you’re suddenly caught in a pop culture reference so perfectly placed that you almost forget to shoot back. The game has crossed paths with Marvel, Star Wars, anime, and even real-world celebrities, but its latest trick might just be its most brilliantly devious one yet.

As Timothee Chalamet likely wheezes at some point in “A Complete Unknown,” the times they are a-changin’. While decidedly not a documentary (even the songs are recorded anew), the Bob Dylan biopic and its oft-leaned-upon lyric do speak to the modern moment as well (and as widely) as they ever have. Here, they reference a doc world in disruption. In Hollywood, the streamers are tightening their once-elastic belts. Theatrical releases are too few and far between. The demand for documentaries remains, but the distribution paths aren’t as robust or reliable as they were even a few years ago.
Unique obstacles surfaced in 2024. Despite the year being dominated by debate over the November election, political documentaries faced a wary marketplace and thus struggled to reach audiences in a timely fashion. Cold feet proved to be an unfortunate trend. The year’s best-reviewed documentary film, “No Other Land,” has yet to secure distribution,...

Warning: This article contains Spoilers for The Decameron.
The Decameron's filming locations in Viterbo, Italy perfectly capture the medieval setting of Florence in 1348. The show highlights the contrast between the wealthy nobles and the servants amid the Black Death pandemic. Villa Santa's interiors were meticulously recreated at Cinecitt Studios in Rome, blending medieval and Renaissance styles.
Netflixs raunchy dark comedy show The Decameron tells the story of nobles fleeing to the Villa Santa in 1348 to escape the Plague-filled city of Florence, Italy, raising questions about the filming locations that shaped the medieval setting. While many anachronistic historical shows like Bridgerton focus on more regal periods of time, The Decameron's main characters, tone, and storyline are influenced by the ongoing death and loss caused by the Black Death the name for the second bubonic plague pandemic, which tore through Europe and Asia from 1346 to 1353 killing up to half the population.

Museum staff and familiar faces discuss their favourite paintings as the National Gallery turns 200, in a film that offers personal stories over scholarly pronouncement
Here is a warm, civilised, and at points quite moving film about the National Gallery’s art collection, timed to coincide with the 200th anniversary of its founding in 1824. It essentially consists of a series of talking-head interviews – mostly National Gallery staff, but also a scattering of outsiders, including a handful of relevant national-treasure celebrities – in which they talk about their favourite paintings. The enthusiasms of the gallery personnel come from an admirably wide range, taking in gift shop sales assistant Joshua Pell (The Adoration of the Kings by Jan Brueghel), corporate development manager Helena Fitzgerald (Degas’ Ballet Dancers) and sign-language guide John Wilson (Pietro Longhi’s Exhibition of a Rhinoceros at Venice). Jack and Rose’s tragic romance in Titanic is considered to be one of the greatest love stories. James Cameron’s epic disaster film was known for its amazing practical and visual effects but has become a modern classic due to Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet’s acclaimed performances as the leading couple.
Though Cameron’s ambitious project runs over three hours, the filmmaker still had some deleted scenes on the cutting room floor. One of these scenes saw Jack and Rose singing ‘Come Josephine’ after their Irish Dance at the third class section. Fans were quick to notice that the song was hummed by the duo at different points in the film, including its heartbreaking ending.

Constantin Film and Big Light Productions has tapped Christian Schwochow, whose credits include “The Crown,” “Munich: The Edge of War” and “Bad Banks,” to direct its upcoming high-profile drama series “Nuremberg,” based on the Nuremberg Trials. The show will be written by Frank Spotnitz, whose credits include “The Man in the High Castle,” “Ransom” and “Leonardo.”
The series follows young survivors of World War II who go to work for Allied prosecutors trying Nazi criminals in Nuremberg, only to find their quest for justice undermined by secret efforts to build a new world order based on power, not principle.
Schwochow said: “The Nuremberg Trials marked a pivotal moment in human history, ushering in a new age of responsibility and justice. This is a story of humanity grappling with its deepest shadows. Its relevance has never been greater, and I am filled with a humble sense of duty to tell this story faithfully.

Leonardo DiCaprio’s illustrious and lengthy career in Hollywood dates back to when he famously starred in James Cameron’s Titanic. From there, he built an incredible portfolio of films that encompass many genres and roles worthy of awards. He has become one of the most highly-paid actors in the industry and a consistent A-lister. DiCaprio’s life is far from being unlucky, as many fans would say.

Edward Norton begs to differ. He gave DiCaprio the nickname ‘Unlucky Leo’ because he has witnessed his friend get into accidents and mishaps several times in the past. Perhaps one can add his consistent Oscar snubs to the list.

Ken Burns has already cracked the code for being synonymous with highbrow documentary filmmaking, but now the award-winning director is taking on an unprecedented feat: capturing the life and legacy of Renaissance painter Leonardo da Vinci.
Burns’ upcoming PBS film “Leonardo da Vinci” marks the director’s first non-American subject. The two-part, four-hour documentary will debut November 18 and 19, as Burns codirects with daughter Sarah Burns and Dave McMahon.
Per the official synopsis, “Leonardo da Vinci” follows the 15th century polymath’s life and evolution as a draughtsman and painter, scientist and engineer, who used notebooks to explore an astonishing array of subjects including painting, philosophy, engineering, warfare, anatomy, and geography, among many others. Set against the rich and dynamic backdrop of Renaissance Italy, at a time of skepticism and freethinking, regional war and religious upheaval, “Leonardo da Vinci” brings the artist’s towering achievements to life through his prolific personal notebooks,...

The fellows headlining Fellow Travelers both have enviable acting résumés, but perhaps their roles on the Showtime series will be their greatest yet. Based on the novel by Thomas Mallon, the decade-spanning drama stars Jonathan Bailey and Matt Bomer as two men whose relationship traverses the McCarthyism of the 1950s, the wartime upheaval of the ‘60s, the disco hedonism of the ‘70s, and the AIDS crisis of the ’80s, as they face obstacles both in the world and within themselves, Showtime says. And we’ve watched Bailey and Bomer travel from project to project over the last 10-plus years. Here are our picks for their best roles to date. Jonathan Bailey: Leonardo (2011–2012) Bailey played an anachronistic, sneaker-wearing version of Leonardo Da Vinci during his boy genius years in this teen Cbbc series, as immortalized in the fan edit above. “I always felt quite removed from Leonardo da Vinci,” the actor...

With “The Inventor,” Jim Capobianco (the Oscar-nominated screenwriter of “Ratatouille“) has managed to direct a family-friendly animated musical (in both stop-motion and 2D) about Leonardo da Vinci’s search for the meaning of life at the end of his life. That’s quite a da Vinci code to crack. That is why it took 12 years to make as a co-production with Curiosity Studio (Ireland), Foliascope (France), Aerial Contrivance Studios, and Robert Rippberger’s Sie Films.
Capobianco’s fascination with da Vinci began with the 2009 2D short “Leonardo,” after intense research into his legendary life as an inventor of flying machines, artist, and pioneer in the study of human anatomy. But what sparked Capobianco’s interest was the notion of da Vinci as “a real person struck with ideas beyond the technical, intellectual, and the societal capabilities of his time.” For him, “The Inventor” explores legacy, how you live your life,...

The Inventor is an animated movie that explores the humanity behind Leonardo da Vinci's art, highlighting his search for the meaning of life. The film features a star-studded cast, including Stephen Fry as da Vinci and Daisy Ridley as Princess Marguerite de Navarre. The animation style of the movie combines 2D hand-drawn and stop-motion, each presenting its own challenges in production.
The world may know Leonardo da Vinci as a great artist, but few have thought about the person behind the legend. Jim Capobianco focuses on the humanity that drove the art in his new animated movie The Inventor. He wrote and directed the project, with Pierre-Luc Granjon serving as co-director, after first stepping into da Vinci's shoes in 2009 with his silent short film Leonardo. This time there are not only voices but also songs, which were written by his collaborator Alex Mandel.

The Bridgerton season 2 cast is full of returning characters, but features some new faces as well. Bridgerton season 1 was all about the romantic endeavors of Daphne and Simon, Duke of Hastings. Regé-Jean Page, who plays Simon, does not return for the romance series’ sophomore season, as it shifted focus (just like the original Bridgerton novels by Julia Quinn). But that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty more fascinating characters, including the introduction of Kate Sharma. The second season of Bridgerton proved to be just as much of a thrilling ride through the wild side of high society, and it's thanks in no small part to the adeptly-selected new and returning cast.
Bridgerton season 2 sees the eldest Bridgerton son and sibling, Anthony, attempting not to fall in love with Kate Sharma, who has recently arrived in England with her family — her mother Lady Mary Sharma and younger sister Edwina — after living in India.

Andrea Scrosati, who is group COO and continental Europe CEO of Fremantle, isn’t too worried about various types of turbulence that are currently creating anxiety in the U.S. media market such as draconian cost cuts being made by juggernaut groups and the impending prospect of a Writers Guild of America strike.
Speaking in Italy at a film and TV conference organized by the Idm-Film Commission Südtirol titled “Less is More – What to Do When the Streaming Boom is Over” Scrosati noted that the effect of market consolidation in the U.S. and fear due to plunging stock market results that is prompting cost cuts at Disney and Warner Bros. A few of last year’s most notable horror movies are still without physical media releases, and that’s because they ended up being streaming exclusives. That list includes Netflix’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Hulu’s Prey, along with Hulu and David Bruckner‘s Hellraiser.
We have no idea at this time whether or not Hellraiser will be released on DVD/Blu-ray here in the United States, but we’ve learned the film is hitting DVD over in the United Kingdom.
The UK DVD release of Hellraiser (2022) arrives on March 27, 2023. As always, you’ll be able to watch the disc here in the States but you’ll need a Region Free DVD player first.
David Bruckner (The Night House), who helmed Netflix’s The Ritual as well as sections of Bloody Disgusting’s horror anthologies V/H/S and Southbound, directed the relaunch of the Hellraiser franchise for Spyglass Media,...

Italian medical drama series Doc – Nelle Tue Mani is getting a U.S. remake.
A U.S. version of the series, which comes from Italian producer Lux Vide, the company behind Aidan Turner series Leonardo, is in the works at Fox.
Michael Thorn, President of Scripted Programming at Fox, told Deadline that the network has a “couple of pieces of material that are being worked on as we speak”.
The move further into medical development comes as the future of long-running series The Resident hangs in the balance. The show just ended its sixth season but Thorn said that he hasn’t made a decision yet as to whether this will be its final season.
The Italian series follows a doctor who suffers a major head injury that wipes 12 years from his memory. It was the most-watched Italian series in the last 13 years with its run on public broadcaster Rai.
