Vincent D’Onofrio told TVLine that Disney+’s Daredevil: Born Again — though not exactly a revival of his and Charlie Cox’s Netflix series — is “as intense as we’ve ever been.”

A pair of small-time crooks is about to mess with the wrong crew.

Based on Dennis Tafoya’s book of the same name, the eight-episode crime drama Dope Thief (which debuts on Apple TV+ with its first two episodes on Friday, March 14, followed by new episodes every Friday through April 25) follows long-time Philly friends and delinquents (Atlanta’s Brian Tyree Henry and Narcos’ Wagner Moura) who pose as DEA agents to rob an unknown house in the countryside. But their small-time grift becomes a life-and-death enterprise, as they unwittingly reveal and unravel the biggest hidden narcotics corridor on the Eastern Seaboard.

Director Karan Tejpal, whose debut “Stolen” (2023) premiered in Venice’s Horizon’s strand before screening at BFI London Film Festival, Zurich Film Festival, and SXSW Sydney, has boarded Indian psychological horror feature “Ummeed” (Hope). The project, selected for the Berlin European Film Market’s Fiction Toolbox Program at Berlinale 2025, is aiming for a November production start.

The film follows a same-sex couple in small-town India pursuing parenthood through illegal sperm donation. When Tithi cannot conceive, her partner Rahi becomes pregnant, leading to a descent into paranoia fueled by societal harassment and dark secrets about the pregnancy itself.

“Though it’s wrapped in thick atmospheric dread, ‘Ummeed’ deeply moved me with the emotional complexity of the characters and their resilience against societal prejudice,” says Tejpal. “More than a psychological horror film, this is a story about redemption and hope.”

Octavia Spencer has starred in many successful movies, three of them leading to Academy Award nominations, with the actress winning the golden statuette for 2011's The Help. With over 100 acting credits in different genres, one of her films has found new success on streaming.

In 2019, Spencer reunited with the director of the project that got her the Oscar for a completely different film — Ma. The psychological thriller was a complete change from their first project, and, although it had a mixed reception, it was a big hit at the box office. Almost six years after its release, the movie is finding a new audience on Netflix and has steadily climbed the streamer's global charts. This week, the movie accumulated 7 million views and made the top 3 list of most-watched titles on the platform.

Raw, scary, thrilling and suspenseful are some terms that can be coined to define Ma.

Released back in 2019, Ma, an American psychological horror movie, is currently proving to be a Netflix favorite for many of its viewers. It was directed by Tate Taylor and written by Scotty Landes. The movie stars the all-famous The Help actress Octavia Spencer in the lead role, with Juliette Lewis, Diana Silvers, Corey Fogelmanis, Gianni Paolo, McKaley Miller, and Luke Evans being part of the cast members.

The plot revolves around a middle-aged woman who befriends some teenagers after buying them booze on request. Later she offers them a place to party in after hours in her basement. Harlan Coben’s series “Missing You” held onto the top spot on Netflix’s most-watched shows list, outpacing the debut of “American Primeval.”

After scoring the No. 1 spot on Netflix’s top 10 most-watched shows last week as the limited series debuted to 21.7 million views, “Missing You” maintained its top spot on the list despite dropping to 15.2 million views during the week of Jan. 6. Viewership for “Missing You” outpaced the launch of Western series “American Primeval,” which took the No. 2 spot on the list with 10.4 million views.

Still, “American Primeval” racked up a bigger audience during the week than docuseries “Jerry Springer: Fights, Camera, Action,” which took third place on the English TV list with 7.7 million views, as well the debut of WWE’s “Monday Night Raw,” which took the No.

The latest episode of Dandadan had fans sobbing by the end. The story of the Acrobatic Silky and her young daughter was unspeakably tragic. Unfortunately, the gravitas of the Silkys redemptive ending was quickly ruined by the catchy and goofy ending song. The song is great on its own, but its presence at the end of Episode 7 was a hindrance to the story viewers just saw.

The public line Netflix toed after its livestream of a boxing match between YouTuber Jake Paul and former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson was that from a ratings standpoint, the fight was a massive success. The streamer said that 60 million people watched the match, but tens of thousands who tried experienced buffering issues or some similar problem with the stream. The company is acknowledging that its stream of the Paul vs. Tyson fight was a bit of a disaster in some respects, but is confidently moving forward with plans to stream two NFL games on Christmas Day.

‘Daredevil: Born Again’ is set to release in about 4 months, and it’s already generating a lot of excitement. The show will bring back familiar characters, including Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock (Daredevil), Vincent D’Onofrio as Kingpin, Elden Henson as Foggy, and Deborah Ann Woll as Karen.

The original version of Daredevil: Born Again was canceled after filming nearly half of the episodes because it wasn’t very interesting and didn’t match the tone of Netflix’s original show. It was meant to be a courtroom drama with very little action from Daredevil.

After the creative overhaul, the show has significantly shifted its tone and level of “darkness.” This is confirmed by the show’s stars and the recent teaser trailer. The show will be more aligned with the tone of Netflix’s show with everything indicating that it will be rated TV-ma.

Nine years after making “Thithi,” one of my favorite Indian films of the 2010s, Raam Reddy is back with “The Fable,” set in a place that couldn’t be further away from the setup of his first film. Nestled deep in the Himalayas, formally set in 1989, “The Fable” retains the timeless nature in its setup, which is typical of the fables. It is shot in film, which only helps to further the cause. The magnificent opening scene sets the tone of the magic realism which is set to follow. Using fireflies as a constant motif, which in many cultures has a supernatural significance, only heightens the sense of magic realism.

But beyond the surface of magic realism, “The Fable” very meticulously examines the underlying tension between different classes in the village. Dev’s (Manoj Bajpayee) family are the owners of the apple estate, handed to them by the colonial rulers of the country.

The politician is not the most popular in his community, while the rescuing of this child is the priority of the police chief.

Korean drama The Land Of Morning Calm and Myanmar feature Ma – Cry Of Silence have won the New Currents competition at the 29th Busan International Film Festival (Biff), which has confirmed it will shift to an earlier date in 2025.

The festival also revealed Rima Das’s Indian feature Village Rockstars 2 and Tom Lin’s Taiwan drama Yen And Ai-Lee as joint winners of the Kim Jiseok Award.

The Land Of Morning Calm, from Korean director Park Ri-woong, and Ma Cry Of Silence, directed by Myanmar’s The Maw Naing, were presented with the New Currents Awards at the close of Busan International Film Festival (October 2-11).

The jury, headed by exiled Iranian filmmaker Mohammad Rasoulof, praised The Land Of Morning Calm, set among the inhabitants of a rural coastal community, for navigating “themes of economic uncertainty, loss, xenophobia, and societal prejudice, creating a narrative that never falters”.

The Land Of Morning Calm also won the Kb New Currents Audience Award and the Netpac Award.

Ma Cry of Silence, about a young Burmese woman who moves to the big city to work in a garment factory, was praised for “its courageous portrayal of resistance to historical and ongoing political challenges under Myanmar’s political junta”. The film was made as a co-production with Korea, Singapore, France, Norway and Qatar.

The Mami Mumbai Film Festival, one of Asia’s premier cinematic events, returns for its 2024 edition from October 19–24, bringing an electrifying lineup of films and cultural experiences. This six-day celebration of global cinema will feature over 110 films from more than 45 countries, with works presented in over 50 languages across a variety of lengths and genres, all part of the festival’s Official Selection. The outlet explains, “In EW’s exclusive clip from Salem’s Lot, Ben [Lewis Pullman] and Susan [Makenzie Leigh] join Alfre Woodard as Dr. Cody, who first fears the spread of a blood illness; Jordan Preston Carter as school kid horror expert Mark Petrie; and John Benjamin Hickey as local priest Father Callahan as they investigate the Straker’s mansion to find evidence of a dead body. Bill Camp also stars as Van Helsing-esque school teacher Matthew Burke.”

The 29th Busan International Film Festival, held Oct 2 (Wed) to Oct 11 (Fri), has revealed its selections for the Asian film competition section, ‘New Currents‘ and ‘Jiseok.

New Currents is the representative competition section of the Busan International Film Festival, focusing on the first or the second feature of emerging Asian filmmakers. This year, 10 films, including two Korean films, have been selected to be showcased. The two Korean films are The Land of Morning Calm and Waterdrop. The Land of Morning Calm is directed by Park Ri-woong, whose first feature, The Girl on a Bulldozer (2022), received great acclaim. It dynamically unravels the story of a young fisherman’s disappearance and an old captain mysteriously involved in this case. Waterdrop is the debut feature of director Choi Jongyong. It portrays the survival journey of a thirteen-year-old child left alone in the world, capturing a range of emotions and an intense, suspenseful narrative.

Telluride- The third of three celebrated August Wilson plays to make it to the big screen over the past decade, “The Piano Lesson” is one that many would expect might be the most difficult to adapt. Luckily, Denzel Washington, who appeared in, directed, or produced “Fences” and “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” could turn to members of his own family to assist in this endeavor.

The 29th Busan International Film Festival has revealed the line-ups for its competitive New Currents and Jiseok sections, which include the latest features from award-winning filmmakers Brillante Mendoza, Rima Das and Tom Lin.

The Jiseok strand, launched in 2022, is reserved for Asian filmmakers who have directed at least three features and this year comprises eight titles.
