Sean “Diddy” Combs Jury Hears Of Cassie Ventura Beating At LA Restaurant Attended By Music Superstars & Execs
Image
After a very brief stint on the stand on May 16 at Sean “Diddy” Combs’ sex-trafficking trial, Making the Band vet Dawn Richard returned today with more testimony of abuse and assault — both observed and experienced.

“He would punch her, choke her, drag her, slap her in the mouth,” Richard told the jury today of the violence she personally witnessed Combs “frequently” unleash against then girlfriend Cassie Ventura. “I saw him kick her, punch her in the stomach,” the former Danity Kane singer told the Bad Boy Records founder’s sex-trafficking trial at the start of its second week. Richard was on the stand for about 2.5 hours Monday.

Asked by Assistant U.S. Attorney Mitzi Steiner what she did about the abuse against Ventura by her then boyfriend and record label boss, Richard rather quietly admitted Monday morning not much.

“I made a decision that it would be best for the...

Film Review: Dirty Money (2024) by Kim Min-soo
Image
The thin, blurry line between good and evil, and the many moral shades of our actions, are recurring themes in writer – and now director – Kim Min-soo‘s work. After penning the scripts for “The Merciless” (2017) and “Kingmaker” (2022), he makes his directorial debut with “Dirty Money“, a film that follows in the great tradition of South Korean crime noir, focusing on the dire consequences of greed, even when rooted in good intentions.

Dirty Money is screening at Far East Film Festival

Detective Kim Myeong-deuk (Jung Woo) and Dong-hyeok (Kim Dae-myung) are two policemen—partners in the field and partners in crime. They have, in fact, implemented a cushy little routine, extorting money from petty criminals in their circle. It’s not a huge amount of money, but enough to fulfill their needs and stay under the radar. Dong-hyeok has a gambling habit and mounting debts, while Myeong-deuk is a widower with...

She is the stepsister of Fire Country's Sharon Leone (Diane Farr) and the aunt of Bode Donovan (Max Thieriot). The two new...

‘Fire Country’: Max Thieriot Talks New Bode & Sharon Conflict, Setting up ‘Sheriff Country’ & More (Video)
Image
[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Fire Country Season 2 Episode 16 “Dirty Money.”] “Man, Leones are stubborn,” Fire Country star, co-creator, executive producer, and director Max Thieriot reminds us. In other words, it’s not going to be so easy for Bode and Sharon (Diane Farr) to see each other’s side when it comes to their conflict at the end of the latest episode. Following the reveal that chemical company Oxalta was behind the poisoning of the well water that made all the Three Rock inmates sick (and killed one), Eve (Jules Latimer) and Sharon met with their lawyer (J. August Richards) and other representatives to see what could be done. Once Jake’s (Jordan Calloway) girlfriend Violet (Nesta Cooper), in a new job with the company, slipped information to Eve about how Oxalta has done this before, Sharon used that to get a deal: Oxalta paid to clean up Three Rock, and Manny (Kevin Alejandro) got released early,...

Fire Country Season 3 Episode 16 is One of the Best Episodes, but One Main Character Vehemently Disagrees
Image
Okay, I think everyone would agree that Fire Country delivered one of their best episodes yet. There was a little bit of everything for everyone on “Dirty Money,” and we have to talk about how good it was.

I wasn’t kidding either about there being a little something of everything. For a brief part of the episode, we legit had ourselves a murder mystery.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: Fire Country Season 3 has been the best so far. The writing, from plotting to character development, has skyrocketed in quality.

(Courtesy of CBS)

Not to mention, the cases no longer feel like a rinse-and-repeat from one catastrophe to another.

Before we get to the multiple juicy parts of Fire Country Season 3 Episode 16, we need to get some minor plots out of the way.

Honestly, as much improvement as the show has made, there...

“[It] Could Lead Right Back to Prison”: ’Fire Country’s Max Thieriot Previews Bode’s Problems With His Po
Image
"Why have you been associating with known criminals?" That was the ominous question Bode's (Max Thieriot) parole officer posed to him in Fire Country Season 3, Episode 15. His answer could dramatically change his future. Associating with known criminals is one of the easiest ways an ex-con on parole can return to prison. Theriot talked to TV Insider about what's on the horizon for the character and the show as the season finale approaches. Bode's association with sketchy figures could be his undoing, but lucky for him, the Po doesn't have the full picture. "His P.O. doesn’t know the extent of the extent of what he’s doing and what this association is," said Thieriot. But, "given the nature of what he’s doing and who he’s associating with could lead right back to prison for Bode," he added. This is a grim diagnosis for the character, but...

We got a taste of Bode and Mickey working together last season, but now Bode’s free, he’s no longer an inmate. How does that change their dynamic? Max Thieriot: Big time. Fire Country Season 3 Episode 16 Spoilers: Morena Baccarin’s Mickey Fox Returns with More Family Drama
Image
On a show like Fire Country, the characters are always a scene away from disaster in one form or another. Typically, it’s a raging inferno or someone trapped under, in, or on something.

However, this series boasts as much drama as it does action. So, sometimes, the only real danger to a character is their own moral compass.

For three seasons of Fire Country, Bode Leone has endured one struggle after another. Yet, somehow, he has avoided falling back on his old drug habits.

(Hugh Tull/CBS)

It seems those days are over, as the show has been building up to Bode’s relapse. We can only hope Audrey can pull him from the shadows before he’s lost to his own inner darkness.

‘The Sticky’ True Story & Real-Life Ruth Landry: Where Is She Now?
Image
It could be said that The Sticky, directed by Michael Drowsy and Joyce Wong, is loosely based on the great Canadian maple syrup heist that took place between 2011 and 2012. Now, the reason why I say that it’s loosely based on it is because, apart from the main conflict, i.e., gallons of maple syrup being stolen from the warehouse of the maple syrup federation, almost everything else in the series has been changed. A few issues, like the kind of problems the farmers encountered in their daily lives and how they did not like the rules and regulations set by the maple syrup federation, actually happened in real life too. But apart from that, the creators have taken utmost creative liberty, and it wouldn’t be wrong to say that they have weaved a fictional story around a real-life event. So, let’s find out what actually happened during...

‘The Queen Of Dirty Money’ Recap: Who Is Nelma Kodama?
Image
I’m not going into whether someone like Nelma Kodama deserves to be the focal point of a Netflix documentary or not! Crime on the screen is something that always sells, and the more glamorous it is, the more people you have in the audience. So, it’s only natural for Netflix to churn out documentaries like Nelma Kodama: The Queen of Dirty Money. Just a while ago, the streaming giant had huge success with How to Rob a Bank, and the Nelma Kodama documentary appears to be cut from the same cloth.

Who is Nelma Kodama?

If you Google the name Nelma Kodama, you will find out that the lady is a trafficker. Of course, a routine criminal wouldn’t make it onto Netflix, so it’s quite obvious that Kodama is a big fish in the world of crime. What has she done? There are all kinds of unlawful things related to money,...

Exclusive: Netflix has enlisted Yon Motskin (Encounters) to direct an untitled documentary feature on Connecticut native Nathan Carman, a young man who, after a fishing trip with his mother Linda off the coast of New England, survives a week on a life raft while she is lost at sea.

He died by suicide last summer while awaiting trial in connection to the death of his mother.

With unprecedented access to family, friends and investigators, the film currently in production is a nautical thriller that explores intimate human mysteries about family, greed, perception, mental health and the unpredictable mind of an enigmatic young man.

The Sticky: Everything We Know About The Prime Video Comedy Series
Image
In 2012, the Canadian government-sanctioned Federation of Quebec Maple Syrup Producers discovered that its precious barrels of sweet sap had been (gasp) stolen. Gone was the sugary liquid that filled the Fpaq warehouses. In its stead was mere water, unfit to pour over a hot stack of pancakes or glaze a juicy pork chop. It sounds silly, but the event cost Fpaq $18.7 million Cad and ranks among the most costly thefts in Canadian history. Judging by the fact that syrup production accounts for about $1.1 billion Cad to Canada's Gdp, the country's government took the crime very seriously. Now, the story is getting the Hollywood adaptation treatment in a half-hour comedy series coming to Prime Video.

Canada produces 90% of the world's maple syrup, and about 72% of that supply comes from the province of Quebec. That means at least 70% of the entire world's syrup was stolen and illegally distributed sometime between 2011 and...

Lumière’s International Classic Film Market Celebrates 10th Edition With Focus on Spanish Cinema, Distribution, New Territories, Education
Image
The Lumière Festival’s International Classic Film Market (Mifc) in Lyon, France, is celebrating its 10th edition this year with a wide-ranging program focusing on bolstering classic film distribution, the prospects of new commercial territories, film education and a focus on Spain’s heritage film sector.

The Mifc, which runs Oct. 18-21, kicks off with a keynote by Gian Luca Farinelli, director of Italy’s Cineteca di Bologna film archive. Market organizers praise Farinelli for “allowing classic films to be found, restored, reviewed and, most often, put back on the market firstly through the Il Cinema Ritrovato Festival, exhibition and distribution activities within the foundation, while maintaining strong links with cinemathques from around the world.”

Farinelli’s work, the Mifc notes, “contributes to ensuring that the history of cinema is always active, alive and accessible.” Many who work in the classic film sector would second that opinion.

The Classic Film Market,...

Busan Film Market: Acemaker Serves up Slate of Action and Revenge Titles
Image
Multifaceted Korean film company Acemaker Movieworks will unveil four titles at this year’s Asian Contents & Film Market, which operates alongside the Busan International Film Festival. Action and revenge feature prominently as unifying themes.

The Covid pandemic continues to have a delayed impact on the Korean production and film releasing scenes. Last year’s prolonged theatrical drought meant funds for reinvestment were in short supply and releases postponed. Many of Acemaker’s movies were shot in 2020, but are only now confirming completion and new release dates.

“Remember” is an action drama film starring Lee Sung Min (“The Spy Gone North”) and Nam Joo Hyuk (best known for TV series “Start-Up” and “Twenty-Five Twenty-One”). Directed by Lee Il Hyung (“A Violent Prosecutor”), the story revolves around a retired soldier suffering from dementia, seeking revenge from people he believes caused the death of his family. The film is a remake of Atom Egoyan...
