One of my all time favorites

Ok now that I have had a couple of days to digest I think it's time for my official review of Darling in the Franxx.

Darling is an anime that started a little slow and felt quite strange at first, but quickly turned into one of my all time favorite shows. Some of those episodes towards the middle of the show are some of the best episodes of TV I have ever watched.

Unfortunately the show took a dip in quality from episodes 18-22 when too much was done in a short time. (I heard this might be due to 2 episodes being cut from the show) Never the less, Darling recovered and ended strong with an ending that was beautifully written and brought back memories of one of my other favorite shows, "Chuck."

While it has it's flaws, Darling in the Franxx is one of my favorite shows ever, and probably my second favorite love story ever. The story was fantastic and the characters are friends I likely won't soon forget.

Darling isn't perfect but it got pretty close there for a while. I highly recommend it.

9/10 definitely worth a watch or two.

Strong Atmosphere, visually unique and unusual take on a number of tropes

Love or hate it, it's not another generic Anime.

Pros: -Animation is vibrant, different and some of it takes a bit to adjust to. -The story has a number of fantastic twists on old tropes. -Character development is spectacular at times. -Unusual overall plot and core issue.

Cons: -Mecha pilot "interaction" is unusual and could throw some people before it clicks with the story. -Ending is up for debate, as often is with Anime's -Some wandering on the story. -"Fan Service" might distract / detract from the anime for some

Give it a chance

I have read so many mixed reviews about this anime. I could list the things I hate about it and just judge it based on that but it had enough things I liked to keep me watching.

And I actually really enjoyed watching the anime, and it's one of the few that comes to a decent enough of conclusion. I actually like the ending. I think it was worth the watch. But my taste isn't everyone's.

After thousands of hours of anime, this one takes the cake.

While I have never written a review before, I felt incredibly compelled to do so after watching the most recent episode (15) as this has quickly rose to the top of my list of the dozens of animes I have watched.

Darling in the FranXX excels and drawing out an incredible variety of emotions; it has the thrill of an awesome shonen/action series, characters each with unique (often relatable) personalities and surprisingly interesting backstories, the occasional set of humour, a beautiful combination of music, art, and animation, but most importantly a magnificent ability to tell an incredible romantic story between the two primary protagonists.

You will feel excited and frustrated, exhilarated and saddened; you will laugh and you may cry, both tears of sadness and joy; and, the more you watch, the more you will find the need to watch. It does what I have never seen any other animes do - it brings together those that watch shonens/action shows with those that watch rom-coms/slice of life animes and it seems to do it effortlessly.

Although the value of each episode may fluctuate throughout the series, stay patient as each episode is still significant and the creators excel at bringing them all together. You may first find it overly eerie but this is done purposefully and it truly makes the moments that bring you joy also possibly bring you to tears.

You may have questionable feelings as you begin to watch this series but put those feelings to rest and watch this anime as I cannot even fathom how you would regret it. This is a must-watch if there ever was one. It's pure magic.

It creates an atmosphere of deep conflict and in between are some stunning visuals and fight scenes.

At first I was very skeptical for obvious reasons but once I got past my initial judgments of the outlandish visuals, I was able to recognize the stories true depth. The creator does in immaculate job as far as world building is concerned but I can see how many people overlook all the small details. Each episode raises many questions and you aren't presented with clear answers for quite some time. The story is put forth in such a way that really requires you to read in between the lines and it my opinion, that's what makes it so captivating. It creates an atmosphere of deep conflict and in between are some stunning visuals and fight scenes. It is not without faults but it is expertly written and worth the watch.

Promising, but doesn't deliver

This anime will grip you within minutes. The story is compelling, the characters are ehhh ok, but what really gets you is the mystery and intrigue. Unless you're there for Zero Two, who, by the way, is the most bland waifu I've ever seen. Her entire personality is just chaotic "darling", and Hiro isn't much better. With all that said, the first 16 episodes are incredible.

And then it completely drops off.

Honestly, just stop at 16. Don't even keep watching. You'll regret seeing the sad excuse of an ending. They through "twists" at you like crazy, to the point where nothing makes sense and you feel like you're watching something on LSD. It ruins the rest of the show. Don't even bother tbh.

A Poor Man's version of Evangelion with disgusting sexuality of minors

Just an awful show. While the main two characters form an interesting pairing, there is no reason to slog through this trite, boring copy of Evangelion. What is worse is the absolutely abhorrent sexuality of minors with the positions that they are in while in the mechs...it's just awful. The multitude of mech type shows out there are better worth watching.

Great Execution, Thrilling Plot and Beauitful Animation

At first I was really hesitating to watch this anime because almost everyone i knew told me that it had no plot and the only reason it actually had fans was because of Zero Two. I'm so happy i still decided to watch this anime... The plot is written so well one of the best Sci-Fi Anime's iv'e ever watched. There was not even one single moment where i was bored of this anime and/or I wanted to watch something else. All i could wish for was this to never end while i was watching this.

However the ending was kinda plain... I know they tried hard to make it a happy ending but personally I feel like a anime like this should have a sad ending. Some people might say the ending was sad but honestly I really don't agree. Everyone was happy, who ever died, died happily. Whoever lived, lived happily so it was not really a sad ending.

Either way i absolutely loved this anime. I will be re watching 10/10 i would recommend this to anyone who likes a good Sci-Fi anime with a little romance (and nudity...) besides the plot and the waifus ;) the animation was very beautiful.

I'm not a big fan of dubs but the dub voice acting was great this time the voices sounded almost the same as the original Japanese ones.

I stayed because 002 was hot

002 is an amazing character that is why I stayed. Other than that, the story was quite stupid and it made no sense. Sue me

Deserves more

At a first glance, one will be tempted into underestimating this series. Don't make that mistake; give the show a chance. It started slow but get through the first 5 episodes and you won't regret it. The show started with weird characters only for them to really develop and envelop onto something new we never believed they would. The storyline begins plain and simple making you believe this show is not unique but continue to the end, and you will ponder on why there is no season 2. The animation is superb and high quality as well. What I like about this anime is that it will fool you with a cliche storyline only to evolve with a total different plot twist that we never expected. The ending will leave you in tears wanting for more. You realize that even though the show begins with a cliche, unoriginal and nothing unique plot at first, the tone over time changes into a darker tone and ends on a high note earning this show its own place among the many mecha animes.

Zero Two so cute. I like Zero Two so much. I wanna marry Zero Two

Neon Genesis Evangelion is an anime that definitely marked a before and after in Japanese animation. Without a doubt, despite being released in the 90s, it is one of the biggest references in anime to date.

The virtues of Evangelion can be evaluated in various areas, from animation, narrative, symbolism, and references

When talking about animation, during its 26 episodes it maintains its quality by giving first-rate animation both in the epic showing girls' breast and when presenting the daily routine, even though they had a reduced budget in some chapters they were able to turn that limitation into a virtue, something which is mainly mentioned in the final 2 episodes

On the other hand, the narrative is just perfect. On the one hand, it maintains a simple and even slow start so that the user can relate to the story and combine it with the action in a perfect way. However, as the plot progresses with each episode we can see that it is not only a typical robot anime, but that the psychology and stories of each character combine to present a story full of intrigue and surprises.

Finally, the symbolisms and references to culture and religion (Anno said he just put it in becasue he think its cool btw) are present from the first second, which is why it is a good idea to watch the anime more than once. In short, it is an anime that leaves nothing to chance, every little detail and dialogue are essential to understand and appreciate this work of animation.

The Downfall of a Great Anime

Darling in the Franxx started off great with its first 15 episodes, you can even make the case that 16-18 were also very good. The ball gets dropped so hard that it's sad to think that I once was attached emotionally to these characters. I was rooting for the final episodes to be over, not for the characters to survive. The series undeniably has great animation and music, as well as fantastic world building similar to showslike Evangelion or even The Promised Neverland, but they eventually started explaining things way too much in episode 19 and also never explaining anything else last that point. They destroyed my faith in the series finale before I watched it, and I was right to lose faith, the series finale is one of the worst episodes in anime, all the emotion is ruined by one ridiculous character design that is never explained in the slightest. Things start happening for no reason without any explanation and it kills the show's quality. Although a majority of Darling in the Franxx is still great, the last 5 episodes are atrocious.

Amazing anime with great visuals and a gripping story

Honestly, recently there haven't been many anime's that have caught my eye that have not been directly pulled from a manga or light novel, but then I came across this gem. aside from the slight hesitation due to the way they pilot the mechs, this anime has drawn me in so that i'm tuning on within 10 minutes of it's new episode every week. The animation and graphics are amazing, and the fight scenes draw you in, but the thing I like most is the interpersonal drama and relationships between the characters. There was more than one scene that made me start to tear up and I could feel the emotions of the characters. If I had to compare this to another anime, I'd say the setting and the fight scenes are similar to Gurren Laggan, while the drama is similar to Spice and Wolf, in that it is as intense as Spice and Wolf, but with a little more focus on the web of connections between characters, not just 2 of them, while it does an excellent job displaying the fact that these pilots are not hardened adults, but growing teens with their own issues of relationships and learning the truth about the world and themselves. and this anime made me tear up ad much as Plastic Memories due to all the gripping drama scenes.

Underwhelming and very much a formular anime down to a point.

This has bad world building, as in it makes little sense isn't explained and as a viewer you will feel you could have done it better. The tech and lore about it makes it seem like it was more a after thought, after the plot of a girl and boy needs to meet had been made. The story and pacing is also very weird, and not in a anime good way. It's just very much a story already told in other animes better, and with the horrible pacing it really does not do it self any favors. I can't really see what made it so popular, I suspect it's because it was on Netflix and therefore got many views from people not used to anime, or people that haven't really seen any great ones or simply not enough to see how plain this one is. Is there anything good with the show then ? The voice acting in Japanese is fine, even great at points, but the animation is somewhat plain and boring too. It's a show that is hard to finish for real anime fans, as there isn't any really string to pull one in with. It will just go one in the same pace, and then end and you will move on. It's not something you will remember or return to over the years either, well not in my case anyway. As the there is little reason to see it again, there is no unik story or animation to have found memories of.

To give this 10 is a insult to all the great shows out there, it's a time passer nothing more, and it's not bad or cringe enough to pull it down from a 5, but there is nothing to lift it up over a 5 either, it really just exists and had it not we wouldn't have missed it either.

The earlier episode are OUTSTANDING

The chemistry between Hiro and Zero Two, the drama between the other characters, and the backstory of Zero Two MADE the show. It was amazing. This was the only show that made me cry. After episode 18, those aspect of the show were gone. The formula of the show was flipped on its head and it was no longer enjoyable. They might've redeemed the show during the last few episodes but I'm not sure. I stopped watching after episode 20. You can take a chance and finish the show but I'm not.

REALLY TRULY AMAZING! I cried so bad with this anime! I was depressed for 3 days! So prepare yourself for a week of depression at least.

And probably the most beautiful anime I watch in my life.
