The Gardener (Le Jardinier), not to be confused with the Gary Daniels/Robert Bronzi film, reunites Jean-Claude Van Damme and David Charhon who directed him in The Last Mercenary. And like that film, it’s an action comedy, but with the comedy dialed up a bit higher, and the action a bit more on the brutal side.

This time out, The Muscles From Brussels plays Leo, a man who simply wants to tend to plants on the large estate owned by Serge Shuster Special Adviser to the President of France. Nobody seems quite sure how he ended up with the position, and they think he’s a bit odd, but he does a good job so they’ve let him stay on.

A couple of months ago, Lionsgate released a new version of The Crow onto the big screen, and while we know what JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray thinks of the movie – you can read his review of the film at This Link and see how he thinks it compares to other Crow movies Here – we haven’t heard how Arrow in the Head founder John “The Arrow” Fallon and Lance Vlcek feel about this new Crow. Alex Proyas, of the 1994 classic The Crow (watch it Here), was never happy with the idea that Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders was going to be telling a new version of the story of The Crow with his recently released reboot – and Proyas never kept his feelings about the project to himself, taking every opportunity to mock and bash it on social media. The Crow reboot made its way out into the world last weekend and is proving to be both a critical failure and a box office bomb, which is just giving Proyas more opportunities to have fun at the movie’s expense on social media.

Stuntman Chad Stahelski was close friends with actor Brandon Lee… and when Lee was killed in a tragic accident on the set of the 1994 version of The Crow, director Alex Proyas chose Stahelski to be Lee’s stand-in for the filming of scenes that still needed to be filmed involving Lee’s character Eric Draven. Lee’s face was then placed over Stahelski’s in post-production. Stahelski has gone on to become a director, taking the helm of each film in the John Wick franchise to date… and since he worked with Bill Skarsgard on John Wick: Chapter 4, it’s no surprise to hear that he supports the casting of Skarsgard in The Crow remake, which is set to reach theatres on August 23rd.

Lionsgate may have pushed the release date of The Crow remake back from June 7th to August 23rd yesterday, but they still promoted the film during their panel at CinemaCon today, showing attendees a new trailer. We don’t know when that trailer is going to be making its way online, but JoBlo’s own Lance Vlcek was in attendance and reports that the new trailer reveals more about the film’s story.

Writing from the panel, Lance said attendees were told this version of The Crow is “a complete re-imagining that is not meant to compete with the original. Yesterday, we saw the first images of what Bill Skarsgard of the It films is going to look like as goth rocker Eric Draven in director Rupert Sanders’ (Snow White and the Huntsman) remake of the 1994 classic The Crow (watch it Here). There weren’t a lot of positive reactions, with many fans comparing Skarsgard’s look – which Sanders said was a mixture of his own look in the ’90s, “when we were squat-raving in London,” with modern influences like Post Malone and Lil Peep – to Jared Leto’s poorly-received version of The Joker in Suicide Squad. One person who took to social media to blast the look of the new Eric Draven was Alex Proyas, who directed the ’94 version of The Crow.

With that date just three months away, a trio of first look images have arrived online to show us what It star Bill Skarsgard and singer FKA twigs look like as the new versions of goth rocker Eric Draven and the love of his life, Shelly. Another remake of classic – make that two classics – is headed to Netflix, as the streaming giant has just released the teaser for The Wages of Fear, first made in 1953 and later most notably remade by William Friedkin with 1977’s Sorcerer.

In the trailer, we see an explosion and the chaos of the aftermath, with a voice saying, “There is a gas pocket feeding the flames. To put it out, we need to blow it up.” This sets up the plot of The Wages of Fear, which finds a team driving to the location in trucks filled with nitro…and they’re on a timeline of just 24 hours.

When looking back at some of the other games that were ahead of their time, I started to realize that there was a logical cut-off point for this particular topic. After all, it’s kind of hard for a game to be ahead of its time when we haven’t really had enough time to properly analyze its potentially once-overlooked or underappreciated impact. That makes it difficult to look at games released for slightly more modern consoles like the Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 2 in the same context.

Then I realized that the PS2 was released nearly 25 years ago. Though that revelation made me briefly confront my mortality, it also shined a light on some of the ways we sometimes fail to appreciate how much of a post-PS2 world we live in. The PlayStation 2 is the best-selling video game console ever, and many of its best games enjoyed similar levels of success.

Jean-Claude Van Damme, the global martial artist turned action hero whose 2021 movie “The Last Mercenary” was a hit on Netflix, has another film on the horizon. He will star opposite Michaël Youn (“Bde”) in “Le jardinier,” another high-voltage action-comedy reuniting him with “The Last Mercenary” director David Charhon.

Amazon Prime Video has acquired “Le jardinier” for France, while Other Angle Pictures is handling international sales on the movie and has already secured sales in the U.S. (Blue Fox), Germany (Plaion Pictures), Russia (All Media) and Eastern Europe (Media Squad).

Filming will kick off Feb. 5 in Belgium and France with a popular cast including Nawell Madani (“Jusqu’ici tout va bien”) Kaaris (“Braqueurs” ), Ragnar Le Breton (“Un Stupéfiant Noël”), Carla Poquin (alias “Poqssi”) and Jérôme Le Banneur. “Le jardinier” is produced by Sébastien Fechner at Rose Prods.

Fresh off another win at Finland’s Jussi Awards, this time for his short film “The Bouncer,” Aleksi Salmenperä is already in post-production with his upcoming feature “Bubble,” about to be presented at Helsinki International Film Festival’s industry event Finnish Film Affair in its Fiction in Progress section.

“I was sort of embarrassed by this win,” he jokes. The comedy was shot six years ago and originally intended as a part of an episodic film. At previous Jussi Awards, Salmenperä was named best director for “Distractions” in 2016, and drama “Void” won best director and best film in 2019. “Bubble,” set to premiere in the spring of next year, is bound to surprise some of his fans, however, with Salmenperä calling it “the cosiest film” he has ever made.

Other Angle has picked up international sales rights to “A Good Doctor” with Michel Blanc, “Just The Three of Us” with Catherine Frot, and “The Father Figure” in the run-up to the UniFrance’s Rendez-Vous in Paris.

Directed by Eric Besnard, “The Father Figure” is a supernatural comedy drama following a writer who mourns the death of his father and starts seeing him reappear; but he turns out to be the only one able to see him. The film stars François Berleand, Guillaume de Tonquedec and Josiane Balasko.

“Just the Three of Us,” which marks the feature debut of José Alcala, is a love-triangle comedy starring Daniel Auteuil and Catherine Frot. Auteuil stars a man on a mission to get his wife back after she leaves him for another man. Both “The Father Figure” and “Just The Three of Us” will be released by Apollo Films in France.

Jean-Claude Van Damme has got a new action-thriller coming out called The Bouncer, and today we have trailer to share with you for it.

Van Damme takes on the role of a seasoned nightclub bouncer named Lukas, “who's taken punches, literally and figuratively, struggles to raise his 8 year old daughter. One day, Lukas loses control during an altercation with a client and ends up in jail, while his daughter gets placed under the care of social services. But things take an unexpected turn when Interpol recruits Lukas to bring down a Dutch ringleader operating from Belgium in exchange for his daughter's custody.”

These kinds of movies aren’t always top-quality, but most of the time I find them enjoyable. This one looks like it could be decent. I just still enjoy watching Van Damme kick some ass.

I'm loving the fact that in addition to his TV series, Jean-Claude Van Damme hasn't slowed down on the movie roles. One of the many projects he has coming this year is the French thriller The Bouncer.

Directed by Julien Leclercq, the movie stars Van Damme as Lukas, an aging bouncer struggling to raise his pre-teen daughter. When an altercation with a client goes horribly wrong, Lukas is thrown in jail and his daughter is taken into custody by the state and to get her back, he has to work with Interpol to bring down a high-level criminal operating in Belgium.

I've yet to see any of Leclercq's other films but judging by their trailers and subject matter, this material isn't exactly new to him and the previews for The Bouncer look really promising. It's...

Van Damme took to social media to announce that Lionheart 2 is happening and that production begins later this year. Paris-based Other Angle Pictures has announced first sales on French director Julien Leclercq’s action thriller The Bouncer, starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, which started shooting last week.

It has sold to Germany (Constantin Film), Italy (Minerva Pictures), Spain (Inopia Films), Latin America (Leda Film), Poland (Monolith Films), Middle East (Falcon Films), Russia (Capella Film), Turkey (Fabula Films), Hungary (Cinetel) and ex-Yugoslavia (Fox Vision).

Van Damme plays a bouncer who is strong-armed by the police into infiltrating a dangerous counterfeiting gang. The $10m production is lead produced by Julien Madon.

The company is also reporting strong interest on Daniel Auteuil’s The Other Woman in which the French star plays a happily married man who starts fantasising about running off with a younger woman.
