The episode received minor backlash from LEGO fans for showcasing custom LEGO models created by fans without their permission and without crediting them. In particular, the Bionicle model used to represent the early "Boneheads of Voodoo Island" prototype is not an official LEGO creation, but the work of Bionicle fan Aaron Newman, taken from his Flickr.com gallery. The editors of the episode simply ran a Google image search for "Boneheads of Voodoo Island" and used the first result without making sure if it was official or not.

Goofs
When discussing the success and backstory of the original Bionicle series (2001-2010), most of the footage shown actually comes from Bionicle's failed reboot from 2015-2016 that ran much later and was unrelated to the original story.

It's amazing how such a mega-brand has had so many ups and downs....

You would never imagine it, as Lego is a huge, huge mega-brand today, but this installment of "The Toys That Made Us" shocked me because apparently the Lego Company has been close to bankruptcy several times. I found this hard to believe, as it's such a ubiquitous brand today and imagining only a short time ago the company was forced to lay off many employees and sell off their parks to stay solvent. This up and down aspect of the company made for a better than average installment in this excellent 8-part series. Well written, enjoyable and full of interesting information...this one's worth your time.
