Exclusive: Two shows are being lined up to replace Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cinderella musical which closes after a disappointing, short-lived run in London’s West End.

News of Cinderella’s closure became a contentious affair, causing members of the actors union Equity to picket outside the Gillian Lynne Theatre. Cast, crew, musicians and those working backstage were angered with management because many heard about the show’s demise via social media.

However, no time has been wasted in finding new tenants for the Gillian Lynne. Producers stampeded the place in almost impolite haste.

Tickets for the show that immediately follows Cinderella into the theater in London’s Covent Garden will be on sale by the end of next week.

The story follows a young soldier (Walls), injured in Afghanistan, who arrives at a Va hospital and meets a Vietnam veteran (Cox) at the facility who teaches him to fly fish, hoping it will help the young man deal with his physical and emotional trauma.

Exclusive: Warner Bros studio veteran Ravi Mehta has been named Head of Physical Production, Post-Production, VFX at 20th Century Studios. He will oversee all aspects of physical production for the Disney-owned 20th Century studios film division.

Mehta spent 24 years at Warner Bros where he became EVP Physical Production for the studio in the spring of 2015. He served as the executive on a slate of movies including American Sniper and The Accountant. With the announcement of the Warner Max film label, Mehta went on to oversee all features for the new streaming platform including Stephen Soderbergh’s forthcoming No Sudden Move.

Prior to the aforementioned positions, Mehta oversaw physical production at Warner Independent Productions, whose prrojects included Everything is Illuminated, Infamous and The Astronaut Farmer. In 2002, he was upped to production executive, being assigned the more budget-challenging of films such as North Country and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.

A new content management company targeting social media influencers is being formed by actress Bella Thorne and longtime manager Thor Bradwell.

Content X will manage social media influencers and their social media accounts with the goal of building profitable profiles. It will also provide expertise in navigating the ever-changing social media universe.

The venture will see Thorne act as the creative director in charge of all content. Talent manager Tamara Thorne and Michael Cohen will act as co-heads of development.

Exclusive: Netflix is in early development on the feature adaptation of the Simon & Schuster Dwayne Alexander Smith novel Forty Acres which Luke Cage creator Cheo Hodari Coker will write and produce.

Forty Acres follows a Civil Rights attorney must fight for survival when he’s invited to join an elite black organization with a mind-blowing secret; the thriller is described as being a cross between The Firm and Get Out.

Coker will produce alongside James Lassiter, Jay-Z, Kapital Entertainment’s Aaron Kaplan, Niles Kirchner and Bill Strauss. Executive producers on Forty Acres are Dana Honor for Kapital, Smith and Mike Epps.

This marks the first movie project for Kapital whose principal Kaplan identified the idea as better suited as a feature when it was pitched to him for TV. Forty Acres reunites Kaplan with Jay-Z and Lassiter, his partners on the upcoming high-profile ABC limited series Women of the Movement.

Shooting is underway in Rome on romancer “Time Is Up,” pairing Bella Thorne with Italian popstar Benjamin Mascolo and being directed by Italy’s Elisa Amoruso (“Chiara Ferragni – Unposted”).

The English-language teen pic turns on two high-school seniors, Vivien (Thorne), who is an accomplished student with a passion for physics, and Roy (Mascolo), a troubled young man. This makes “for two starkly different personalities,” according to promotional materials.

Cameras started rolling last week on “Time Is Up,” which is being produced by Italy’s Marco Belardi via his Lotus Production, a Leone Film Group company, with pubcaster Rai’s Rai Cinema on board. A six-week shoot is planned in Rome and also in an unspecified U.S. location.

For a long time, superhero video games had a mixed reputation. Developers often just put a character in a 2D platformer or brawler and called it a day. Now, footage from a cancelled Daredevil game has surfaced that indicates that the jump in quality could have come a little sooner. Developed by 5000ft Inc, Daredevil: The Man Without Fear was intended for release in 2003 on Playstation 2, PC and Xbox. Police in Texas have made an arrest in connection with the fatal shooting of 30-year-old actor Eddie Hassell.

According to the Associated Press, D’jon Antone, 18 was arrested on Wednesday at his home in Dallas and charged with capital murder. He is being held at the Grand Prairie Detention Center on a $500,000 bond.

Police say that Hassell was visiting a friend at a Grand Prairie apartment complex when he was shot while going out to his car to retrieve something. A car was stolen but Hassell was not in the car at the time.

“He was just a victim of wrong place, wrong time,” a police spokesperson said.

D’Jon Antone was arrested Wednesday for investigation of capital murder, Grand Prairie police said in a statement. Antone is being held at Grand Prairie Detention Center on a $500,000 bond.

Investigators have determined that the attack was a random robbery, police said. The investigation will be handled by the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office.

Hassell, a resident of Waco, TX, was shot in the stomach outside his girlfriend’s apartment in Grand Prairie at around 1 am Sunday morning. Hassell’s girlfriend was in her apartment when it happened but she did not see the assailant. Neighbors came to Hassell’s assistance and called emergency services. The 30-year-old Hassell died at the hospital.

Police arrested a man on Wednesday who is suspected of murdering actor Eddie Hassell in a robbery on Nov. 1.

D’Jon Antone, 18, was arrested without incident by a fugitive task force in North Texas and police in Grand Prairie, Tex., for capital murder, according to the Grand Prairie Police Department.

Antone is being held at the Grand Prairie Detention Center with a bond set at $500,000. Detectives ruled that the robbery was random and Antone is not a resident of Grand Prairie. The case is being referred to the Tarrant County District Attorney’s office.

Hassell, 30, was killed on Nov. 1 after being shot several times on the 3000 block of West Bardin Road in Grand Prairie. Police officers responded to a report of a shooting around 1:50 a.m., located Hassell and administered first aid. He was then transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The incident is still under investigation by police.

The actor, best known for roles on Surface and Devious Maids, died Sunday, November 1 at the age of 30.

According to NBC News, Hassell was shot dead.

Police in Grand Prairie, Texas, explained that they responded to a shooting at 1:50 a.m. on Sunday, where they found Hassell, of Waco, “suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.”

The actor's manager said he was shot in the stomach.

Officers gave first aid to Hassell, but he passed away after being transported to a hospital.

Hassell was shot outside his girlfriend's apartment, and, according to reports, she did not see the assailant.

The investigation is ongoing, and no other details were made available.

NBC has set a celeb-studded Law & Order special: The Paley Center Presents Law & Order: Before They Were Stars will air Thursday, Nov. 12 at 10/9c, following Svu‘s Season 22 premiere at 9 pm.

The program will feature interviews with actors who’ve appeared on the franchise as guest stars prior to getting their big break. Exclusive: Bella Thorne and Benjamin Mascolo will star in Time Is Up. Elisa Amoruso will direct the pic and also co-wrote the script with Lorenzo Ura and Patrizia Fiorellini.

The movie follows two high school seniors ‘Vivien’ (Thorne) and Roy (Mascolo) who at first glance appear to have starkly different personalities. Vivien is a highly accomplished student, with a passion for physics and keen to get into a prestigious American university. She seems to live her own life as a mathematical formula that drives her to look at her own happiness as something to be postponed into the future. Roy, on the other hand, is a troubled and problematic young man who, due to a trauma suffered as a child, sees his desires continually hindered by a past that seems to constantly haunt him. However, mathematics too has its variables and, as always happens, life manages to weave events together...

HBO Max is out with its list of everything new coming to the streaming service in October and everything leaving at the end of the month.

The list includes HBO Originals like the limited series “The Undoing” starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant, out Oct. 25, and David Byrne’s “American Utopia” special event about Byrne’s Broadway show that electrified audiences, out Oct. 17.

There is also Nathan Fielder’s comedic docuseries “How To With John Wilson,” out Oct. 23, and the first season finale of “Lovecraft Country” on Oct. 18.

Among the things leaving at the end of the month are “Amelie,” “Ocean’s 11,” “V For Vendetta,” “Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” and “Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.”

With Lovecraft Country still providing HBO and HBO Max with its horror content through October, the streamer is looking elsewhere for its spooky season offerings. HBO Max’s new releases for October 2020 feature some truly awesome horror library titles.

Jordan Peele’s Us, John Carpenter’s The Thing, and David Fincher’s Se7en all arrive on Oct. 1. That alone should be enough to last you through spooky season. And if it doesn’t, It: Chapter Two is right there as well. October is also a big month for Batman and Superman with Man of Steel arriving on Oct. 1 along with a whole of animated specials dropping that same day.

In relation to the library titles, this isn’t HBO Max’s strongest month from an original perspective. But there is still plenty to like here. The West Wing election special arrives on Oct. 15. That will be followed by David Byrne...

Hulu is out with its list of everything new coming and everything leaving the streaming service in the month of October.

Highlights include seasons four and seven of “90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days,” Season 8 of “My 600-lb Life” featuring the late star Coliesa McMillian, and a bunch of cooking shows including seasons nine and 10 of “Bizarre Foods With Andrew Zimmern,” Season 13 of “Cutthroat Kitchen” and Season 18 of “Hell’s Kitchen.” All of those come out Oct. 1.

For Halloween, catch the Hulu Original series “Monsterland” out Oct. 2.

On Oct. 14, catch the season premiere of “The Bachelorette” just one day after it airs on ABC.

Leaving Hulu on Oct. 31 are all five of the “Twilight” movies, “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and “Footloose.”

HBO Max is serving up a lot of great new movies this October. Fittingly for the spooky season, the Warner Bros. streaming service is adding a fair few classic horrors to its library next month, but there’s really something for everyone going up – from comedies to romances to sci-fi to superhero films.

Speaking of that last genre, DC lovers will be pleased to note that 2013’s Man of Steel, the movie that kicked off the Dceu, is among the titles arriving on October 1st. Besides that, there’s a bunch of animated DC pics dropping the same day, including Superman/Batman: Public Enemies and All-Star Superman. 2005’s Constantine featuring Keanu Reeves, meanwhile, also debuts on the service from the 1st.

October is officially spooky season and it’s nice to know that some streaming services (*cough*Disney+*cough*) are taking that responsibility very seriously.

For its new releases in October 2020, Hulu is premiering the Marvel TV universe’s first-ever outright horror series. Helstrom debuts on Oct. 16 and follows Marvel Comics character Daimon Helstrom as he struggles against all manner of demonic forces. Another spooky treat arriving this month is Monsterland on Oct. 2. This anthology will feature scary stories from around the country.

On the movie side of things, Hulu is bringing out Clive Barker adaptation Books of Blood on Oct. 7 and Bad Hair on Oct. 23. Thank you, Hulu, for your spooky service.

There are a lot of non-Hulu TV shows of note arriving in October as well. The final season of Homeland will be available to stream on Oct. 26. The premiere of Saturday Night Live‘s 46th season will arrive on Oct.

We’re now just over halfway through September, so let’s turn our attention to what’s coming to Hulu next month. Every October, the streaming service celebrates “Huluween” by adding a bunch of new Halloween-themed content. And this year is no different, with countless classic movies going up on the site that you’ll want to check out to get you in the spooky mood as well as a few notable originals.

These include anthology series Monsterland (October 2nd) and horror comedy film Bad Hair (October 23rd), starring Lena Waithe, Vanessa Williams and Laverne Cox, from Dear White People director Justin Simien. Superhero fans will also want to catch supernatural-themed Marvel series Helstrom (October 16th). The final production from Marvel Television, it’s sadly already doomed to just the one season.

But even at this early, speculative stage of the awards conversation, this is pretty remarkable: there could be two or more women nominated for Best Director for the first time in history. What’s more jaw-dropping is that we could also see the first two women of color ever nominated for directing.

Miley Cyrus has been added to the lineup of performers for the 2020 MTV VMAs, which will air Sunday, Aug. 30 at 8/7c and be hosted by Keke Palmer.

Cyrus — who will perform her new hit single, “Midnight Sky” — joins a slate that also includes Lady Gaga, The Weeknd, Roddy Rich, Bts, Doja Cat, Thund3rMaus, J Balvin, Maluma and Cnco. (Ok, we may have made one of those names up.)

2020, as well as being an all-round garbage fire, is likely to go down as a strange year for film. Almost all of year’s biggest titles remain in limbo, waiting for cinemas to be able to safely reopen. That said, more than half way through the year, we have now seen a lot of excellent films getting released. Some managed to sneak in to cinemas in ‘the time before’, but many have made their debuts via streaming or paid VOD.

Even with a much reduced slate, there are still great films out there that have either got lost in the shuffle or might not have had the mainstream appeal to connect with an audience as wide as they deserve.
