After the disappearance of his wife and daughter, Tomás García, a skeptical police investigator, enters a state of depression in which he has visions of his missing wife. In these visions she indicates a place, a geriatric home on the outskirts of the city where he will find the answer to the disappearance of his family and liberate the place of an ancient Taino curse.

Enjoyed the Film

Really enjoyed the film--especially it's connection to Dominican folklore and the surprise ending. The plot was well though-out and the visuals were stunning. The Dominican film industry has had several break-out pieces in the last decade, and Jupía adds to this growing legacy.

Jupia explores the Taino myth of a female ghost(s)--Jupia--that silently wanders the mountains of the Dominican Republic at night, occasionally taking on the figure of other humans (living or dead).

The plot features a policeman's search for his missing wife and daughter while using the myth of the Jupia to explore themes of gender-based violence, agism, and obsession.
