A+E Studios, the company behind Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer, is staffing up.

The studio arm of the cable group has hired Jessie Abbott as VP, Creative Affairs.

Abbott was previously VP, Current & Development at Kapital, where she oversaw series such as Hulu’s Black Cake, Starz’s Shining Vale, ABC’s Women of the Movement, Fox’s Pivoting, ABC’s A Million Little Things and CBS’ The Unicorn (CBS). She left Aaron Kaplan’s company last December.

In the new role, she reports to A+E Studios’ Co-Head and Executive Vice President, Creative Affairs Tana Jamieson.

In addition to The Lincoln Lawyer, A+E Studios, was behind AMC’s Parish and Netflix’s You, which began at Lifetime. The company was also developing multi-camera comedy Sisters-in-Law with former The New Adventures of Old Christine executive producers Sherry Bilsing Graham and Ellen Kreamer at ABC, and a series adaptation of...

Season 2 (read our review Here) is now making its way out into the world; it premiered with three episodes on July 31st, and those are being followed by new episodes every Thursday through August 28th. NBC has granted a series order to Jeff and Liz Astrof’s new cheerleading comedy “Stumble.”

The single-camera comedy has been ordered to series by NBC, the network announced Tuesday, just over four months after the network gave a pilot order to the comedy series.

Jeff and Liz Astrof serve as writers and executive producers for “Stumble” alongside EPs Dana Honor and cheer coach Monica Aldama, who most recently appeared on Netflix’s “Cheer.” The show hails from Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, and Honor’s Defining Eve Productions.

Jeff Blitz directed and served as an executive producer for the pilot.

The official logline is as follows: “Coach Courteney Potter is determined to rally her newly recruited junior college cheer squad to win her record-breaking 15th championship and improve their lives along the way.”

I have been on a genre kick.

It may be why I recently wrote about genre television and missing series like Midnight, Texas. Something about the combination of genre and summer programming scratched a special itch that has been hard to replicate since then.

In between rewatching bits of The Originals and losing sleep to late-night ER marathons, I decided to finally check out Grimm — a series that many have recommended to me countless times.

So, because everyone has spoken so highly about this series, I popped in the first episode of Grimm.

And it was … fine.

But to be fair, I vividly recall Grimm and Once Upon a Time out around the same time. And if there’s one pilot I’m obsessed with, it’s the Ouat one.

Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Affirm Films has released the official trailer and key art for its upcoming feature Soul on Fire, based on the true story of bestselling author and speaker John O’Leary — a boy who survived the unthinkable and became a man who chose to live with purpose.

The streamer has renewed the teen drama for a second season, TVLine has learned. Bet, which debuted on Netflix last month, spent three straight weeks on the streamer’s global Top 10 English-language shows after its release.

Lee Unkrich, the director of Disney and Pixar's Coco, has paid tribute to Abuelita actress Renée Victor following the news of her death. It was reported over the weekend that Victor, the TV and film actress best known for playing Miguel's grandmother in the 2017 animated feature film and starring as Lupita in Showtime's dark comedy-drama Weeds, among many other roles throughout her decades-long career, had died at her home in Sherman Oaks, California, on May 30 surrounded by her family after a battle with lymphoma. She was 86.

Unkrich honored Victor with a post on Instagram, sharing a side-by-side image of the actress and her fan-favorite character in Coco, who went by the name Elena Rivera, but was often addressed as Abuelita (an affectionate Spanish word for "grandma"). The caption read: "I've just learned the heartbreaking news that Renée Victor, the actress who voiced Abuelita in Coco, has passed away.

Renée Victor, whose work as an actress included the hit TV series Weeds and the animated movie Coco, has died.

Per Deadline, Victor died on Friday evening while surrounded by family at her home in Sherman Oaks, California. Her cause of death was attributed to lymphoma. She was 71 years of age, according to The Independent.

Confirming their mother's passing, Victor's daughters, Raquel Victor and Margo Victor, said in a statement, “Renee is perhaps best known as the voice of ‘Abuelita’ in Disney’s 2017 blockbuster Coco. Renee was loved by so many & had fans all over the world. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her.”

Following its record-setting premiere, Paramount+ with Showtime today announced it has given the green light to The Chi season eight.

The season seven premiere scored two million cross-platform viewers and became the most-streamed premiere in series history, shattering the streaming viewership record.

The Chi is a timely coming-of-age story centering on a group of residents on the South Side of Chicago who become linked by coincidence but bonded by the need for connection and redemption. Created entirely in its namesake city, The Chi is produced by 20th Television.

This season, with Alicia at the helm, the pivotal women of The Chi rise to reclaim their power. Yet, as loyalties are tested and new rivalries are stoked, it becomes clear that there’s only one crown, and it will come at a heavy cost.

The Chi is created and executive produced by Emmy winner Lena Waithe under her Hillman Grad banner.

The Chi has broken a series record with its Season 7 premiere. The episode drew two million cross-platform viewers, making it the most-streamed in series history, up 2% on streaming versus last season, according to Showtime.

Exclusive: Actor Sam Huntington has signed with Prototype Talent Agency for theatrical representation.

Huntington was most recently tapped for a recurring role opposite Ted Danson in Season 2 of Mike Schur’s A Man on the Inside. The Netflix comedy centers on Charles (Danson), a retired man who gets a new lease on life when he answers an ad from a Pi and becomes a mole in a secret investigation. Season 2 will see Charles (Danson) going undercover at a college. Huntington plays Max Griffin, a rabble-rousing professor of journalism.

On the film side, Huntington will next appear in a major supporting role in Bride Hard opposite Rebel Wilson, set for theatrical release on June 20. His additional feature credits include Warner Bros.’ Sully, directed by Clint Eastwood, Superman Returns, and The Last Stop in Yuma County. Netflix is certainly taking its time to decide the fate of Ransom Canyon. The hit series has consistently proven itself as a top performer on the platform and yet the streamer hasn't officially renewed it for Season 2. During an interview with TV Insider, however, showrunner April Blair (All American) gave very good news to fans and revealed that the wheels are already turning to bring new episodes to life.

Blair commented on several aspects of the explosive Season 1 finale, from Yancy's (Jack Schumacher) shocking reveal to that death that we still have to get over. In order to discuss the long-term effects of all that happened, though, the Ransom Canyon boss had to delve a bit into Season 2 and where we will find the characters if and when we meet them again. She stated:

"We’ve already started the writers’ room, even though the show hasn’t been picked...

If you manage to survive through the cringe fest served in the guise of narrative in Netflix’s Bet, a ludicrous live-action adaptation of the acclaimed manga/animeKakegurui, then be prepared for the disappointment of generic, caricature-ish character portrayal. Set in a prep school for elites where hierarchy is determined by gambling prowess and education, much like any teen drama of the late 90s, which is of the least importance, Bet features privileged, amoral, snobbish, attention-starved teenagers and focuses on their shenanigans. Parental issues are a common factor of misery for all the major characters, which also defines their perspective and actions as seen throughout the series. One aspect of the source material I will appreciate for sure is that it features majorly female players in the lead, which is a clever counter to the general sexist mindset regarding gambling, aside from being a strong instance of representation.

In response to an Instagram follower inquiring about his first airdate, the “Dreamgirls” and “A Million Little Things” star revealed the news in the comment section of a video post he made. The post discussed his starting a new diet and was recorded in his dressing room at the Atlanta-based studio where the daytime drama series tapes.

Since it was announced he would be joining the soap opera, Robinson has celebrated his son’s fifth birthday, released new music, and taped the 100th episode of “Beyond the Gates,” among other milestones.

As Season 1 of Ransom Canyon wrapped, fans of the new Netflix series were left with some loose threads that a new season would need to tie up. One of the characters that has the most to deal with is Yancy Grey (Jack Schumacher), who presents himself as one kind of person throughout the episodes, only to reveal that he had a big secret that he conveniently forgot to tell his new lover, Ellie (Marianly Tejada). In a recent interview, Schumacher talked about his character's path in a potential Season 2.

During the interview with Swoon, Schumacher commented on the fact that we did know that Yancy is a con artist, so lying is "just second nature" to him. At the same time, the actor mentioned that he does believe that Yancy is trying to start from scratch and be a new person, but apparently, old habits die hard. There are a few shows or movies that set a standard and a template for a whole genre. HBO’s 2001 miniseries Band of Brothers not only did that for war dramas but also launched and boosted many acting careers. The series, created by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg, presented real-life events of Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division throughout World War II.

The ensemble cast of Band of Brothers is one of the main reasons people still remember the show. Apart from playing the roles of soldiers, actors like Scott Grimes as Donald Malarkey, Kirk Acevedo as Joe Toye, and Damian Lewis as Richard Winters made the audience empathize with their losses and wins and connect with their camaraderie. Now, after more than two decades since its premiere, let’s catch up with some of these talented cast members and see what they are up to.

Last year, filmmaker Andy Chen caught a lot of attention with his short film The Spider, which put a body horror spin on the concept of Spider-Man. Now, our friends at Bloody Disgusting have learned that Chen is making his feature directorial debut with a horror movie called Another – and there are a couple of genre icons in the cast! Heather Langenkamp of A Nightmare on Elm Street and Doug Jones of The Shape of Water star in Another alongside Bob Morley (The 100), India de Beaufort (Kimi), and Anna Akana (A Million Little Things).

Scripted by Chen and Alexander Hernandez-Maxwell, Another follows Joey (de Beaufort), a grief-stricken author haunted by the death of her husband, Ben (Morley), a brilliant physicist. When Ben inexplicably appears one morning, alive and well, making breakfast in their kitchen, Joey is thrust into a waking nightmare where grief, memory, and reality begin to unravel.

Creating an interesting TV soap that generates millions of viewers is an art in itself. It requires a great evolving plot (often based on a book or a series of books), an unusual location, and something that can carry it. Such a concept was a great success for Yellowstone, and Virgin River did well, too.

Now, following this concept, starting April 17, 2025, Netflix began showing Ransom Canyon, another such series. The 10-episode series is created, written, and executive produced by April Blair and features a big-name cast starring Josh Duhamel, Minka Kelly, James Brolin, and many others.

The first two episodes were directed by Amanda Marsalis. While the initial critics' opinions are mixed, the audiences don’t seem to be bothered much so far, as it is topping or is close to the top of viewers' lists in many countries.

What is Ransom Canyon about?

As much as we instantly think about Yellowstone when we take a look at the fresh neo-western series Ransom Canyon, we can't deny that the show managed to find its own rhythm and identity in Season 1. For one, the Netflix series has a much less cynical approach to love — even though its romantic storylines have their share of twists. In a new interview, series star Jack Schumacher (Top Gun: Maverick), who plays cowboy Yancy Grey, talked about his character's secret, which is revealed by the end of the season.

The storyline of Yancy in Ransom Canyon is pretty compelling because he wasn't exactly looking for the love of his life. Initially, he comes to Texas Hill Country wanting to make money fast and then move on to the next town. “So this happened today. 100 episodes! Wow. So much love to my #BeyondTheGates fam,” said series creator and head writer Michele Val Jean in a post she shared on X (formerly Twitter) that was accompanied by a photo of a celebratory cake embedded with shots of the cast/crew. “You guys amaze me every day. After making his daytime television debut last month as an original cast member of the new soap opera “Beyond the Gates,” actor Maurice Johnson is set to exit his role as Dr. Ted Richardson in May, with Keith D. Robinson (“A Million Little Things”) replacing him.

Since news of the casting switch first broke last Friday, Johnson had been reposting and resharing comments by some of the show’s most loyal fans who’ve wondered what may have occurred, if anything in particular, to spur the change.

While the show has not yet addressed any changes to its cast, Johnson did take to X (formerly Twitter) on Monday to share that he’s got a little more than 30 episodes left to go before his final episode airs and that he’ll be back on screen as soon as Thursday.
