Plot
The Ryan Family moves into their dream home having no idea their new home is possessed by a demon. (inspired by true events).
Cast
Not familiar with anyone, and everyone was so incredibly bland.
Verdict
I watched The Evil Down the Street on Youtube, that's generally an immediate red flag but I do love being proved wrong. This, did not prove me wrong.
Now the first factor out the gate is that this is a "Based on a true story" movie, but is also supernatural which makes me chuckle. It's either/or it's not both, grow up.
I saw comments from the director, how he was waffling on about being respectful to the family, how he knew them, how he wanted to tell the true story. Well it's clearly not a true story is it? For crying out loud.
The film is a slow burn with uninteresting characters that touches upon commonly seen subject matter but drags it out for so long it never finds an identity or brings anything new to the table. It's no exaggeration to say nothing really happens in the film and the finale is so remarkably rushed I was sat jaw dropped in awe that's the way they decided to do it. No spoilers here, but imagine a 90 minute movie about an alien invasion where 89 minutes are them talking about the aliens and looking a the spacecrafts then 10 seconds is them shooting a missile at said spacecraft boom and it's over.
The Evil Down the Street is absurd, terrible and pointless.
Rants
I do so hate supernatural "True" stories. Is your life that lame that you need to believe in ghosts, goblins, vampires, demons, aliens, gods etc etc etc? Proof or gtfo please, you've had enough time by now and it's just getting embarrassing. Go out and record evidence, and unlike all the evidence out there on Youtube kindly record it on a camera not a potato.
The Good
Nothing springs to mind
The Bad
Bland cast Slow burns to nothing Simply not a true story Awful rushed finale.

What the reviews here calling this movie an "indie film" mean is that it is an ultra low-budget, super cheesy horror movie. The acting is bad, the plot is played out, and the sound design is noticeably atrocious. By far the worse part about it is the "scares and effects". They consist of people's voices changing, door shutting on their own, bad jump-scares, and cheesy makeup.
If you feel like being really bored for an hour and a half or you just can't fall asleep, I would recommend it. Everybody else should avoid this train-wreck like the plague. Any review rating this movie higher than a 2 is fake. It's not that this isn't my kind of movie, it's that this is obviously a very badly made film. PS: who doesn't like potatoes?

This is so frustrating! This movie is awful; truly awful. The story was silly and the acting was atrocious.
People who rate this garbage any higher than a 1 should be ashamed.
This film is just overall boring. And the acting is something you will see in a b movie. Or maybe less.
A junior grade school acting in a play, could do better.
This movie is so bad, I do not know where to start. Story is terrible, acting is even worse. The scenes last some 30 secondes, then cut, then next scene start and so on. Nothing happens. Total waist of time. There is a plenty of fake reviews, I gave this movie a chance and that was a mistake. Do not make the same mistake as I didi. Do something else, anything else for 90 minutes.
The evil MUST be down the street because there ain't nothin' happening here!
I kept waiting. And waiting. And waiting. And still nothing. I hate to say, but all these positive reviews must be fake.
Luckily, I didn't pay a dime to see this. The thing I'm out is the time I spent watching this.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna head elsewhere down the street to look for some good evil.
Good evil? Is that an oxymoron?

Talk about a train wreck of pure acting carnage. The horror wasn't the evil down the street it was the story line. No way this deserves a 1 star.

This Horror Delight is Fun to watch late at night with a snack like popcorn or chips before you realize it your snack has disappeared - maybe your own Fright made it vanish or a ghost or perhaps you were temporarily possessed? - (all in good FUN) - !!!!
Production, cinematography, score and setting are all on point. Some acting woes occasionally but overall a very solid movie. I would watch this movie again over most of the big budget AAA horror movies that have come out over the last few years. It doesnt have big scares or cheap jump scares. It has a creep factor to it though. The actor playing Michael has 1 weak acting scene where hes screaming but beyond that he does a solid job. The wife is creepy when they show her in the background just staring. The priest did a great job and was believable. This isnt a movie that has millions going into it yet it still has the ability to pull you in. Thats saying something...

Bloody utter b rated rubbish..acting was awful. Who ever told those people they could act.. they need to go back to drama school. I wouldnt say it was a horror movie at all. Dreadful.
This movie is ridiculously bad. There is nothing good in it. It's beyond boring and just goes on and on and on until you just wanna cry for the time you wasted watching this terrible mess.
The soundman must of been drunk and deaf - volume changes from inaudible to loud as hell mid sentence without any reason. Acting is seriously propably the worst I've ever seen, these are really horribad amateurs.
And yeah, this is definitely not a horrormovie or a thriller or anything like that. More like some weird failed experiment on making the worst movie ever.

We read the reviews and got excited, but then we had to stop 23 mins in. The movie was bad, and we regularly watch horrors most would consider bad. Terrible acting. It's as if we went and got a camera and made this movie. Please avoid

It could've been great but holy cow was the acting terrible. No one in the movie could embody the emotion. It sounds like a scripted reality show. Didn't make sense. It said evil down the street but where??? Total fail here and I love my scary movies.

Stumbled onto this because an actor in it had directed another indie I enjoyed and when I saw it was inspired by actual events, I had to give it a watch. I wasn't expecting big special effects and such that you see in big budget films, and I'm glad they didn't attempt that stuff. The filmmakers built the tension nicely throughout and the performances added to it. It's easy for "overacting" in one of these paranormal horror indies, but the director and cast really kept things in check and at the same time didn't try to go too over the top with the drama. Good scares and the story played out well. Definitely check it out!

Legit the worst film I have ever seen in my life.... I have created an account on IMDB specifically to say how tragically awful this film is. Do not watch!!!

I saw this on a website and had to watch it since, a) I like horror; b) it was made by a local talent. I was surprised at the quality of the production, the scripting and the plot. I watched uninterrupted from start to finish and if you enjoy this genre, you'll enjoy the evil down the street.

I had heard about this movie from the cult classic horror podcast. So I gave it a try.
There are many independent paranormal thrillers out there.
I enjoyed the foreshadowing from the neighbors visiting on day one of the family moving in to their new house.
Based at least loosely on an actual family's experience the occult tie in with a ouija board and people's natural curiosity makes this a believable story line.
Does playing with the occult let the devil in or are they just going a little crazy?
Get some popcorn sit back for a slow burn but worthwhile movie.
A believable family descends into chaos stay to find out if it works out for them.

If you ignore the shakey camera work, stiff acting with lines that are read with no feeling and the long almost uncomfortable silences during scenes where it's like the actors are trying to remember who's turn it is then your left with a dull film that can't even produce a basic scare or jump scene and as this is ment to be a film about a house possessed by a demon the maybe a scare or two would help
Give this film a miss if you value your time
