Greg Berlanti To Direct Jackie O-Infused ‘The Editor’ In New Overall Fox Pic Deal

Exclusive: Fox 2000 has optioned the Steven Rowley novel The Editor, and Greg Berlanti has been set to direct the film and produce it through his Berlanti Productions. Rob Weisbach will also produce. This will be the first new project under a new multi-year first look feature deal 20th Century Fox has made for Berlanti Productions. Berlanti has developed a close relationship there with Fox 2000 chief Elizabeth Gabler, on the heels of the Berlanti-directed sleeper Love Simon. He has also set several projects with Tcf chief Emma Watts’ division. All of Berlanti’s film projects are produced by Berlanti Productions president Sarah Schechter.

The author will write the script for The Editor, which Penguin Random House will publish next April. The novel revolves around an author and his world famous editor, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, after she embraces the latest novel from the long struggling writer and buys it for Doubleday.

‘Birds of Passage’ to Open Miami Film Festival’s Gems Event
The Miami Film Festival’s fall edition, called Gems, has unveiled its lineup including Colombia’s Oscar entry “Birds of Passage” as opening night selection and Spain’s Oscar submission “Champions” as closing night film.

Miami Dade College organizes the festival, which takes place Oct. 11-14 at the college’s Tower Theater Miami. The Miami Film Festival’s 36th edition will run March 1-10, 2019.

Spanish actress Barbara Lennie will accept the Precious Gem Award before the screening of her latest film, “Petra.” Cinematographer Diego Garcia, who shot Paul Dano’s directing debut “Wildlife,” will receive the Art of Light award before the Florida premiere of the film.

Films screening in the Spotlight Stage section are “El Angel,” “Animal,” “Ben is Back,” “Border,” “Burning,” “Capernaum,” “Cold War,” “Everybody Knows” and “Petra.”

The Discovery Stage section will screen “Boys Cry,” “Diamantino,” “Dry Martina,” “The Heiresses,” “Hopelessly Devout,” “Soufra,” “Wildlife” and “Woman at War.
