Rashida Jones has over 80 screen acting credits to her name and may be best known for her roles in the likes of Parks and Recreation, Sunny, The Social Network, Celeste & Jesse Forever, and/or I Love You, Man. She’s also a writer, having worked on the likes of Toy Story 4, The Other Black Girl, an episode of Black Mirror, and the aforementioned Celeste & Jesse Forever – and she’s a director, having directed episodes of Roar, #BlackAF, Angie Tribeca, and Hot Girls Wanted: Turned On. She also co-directed the documentary Quincy, about her father, record producer and composer Quincy Jones. A couple of months ago, it was announced that she is co-writing a new Tom and Jerry movie, and now, Deadline has revealed that she’s set to direct a film called Playdate.

Seven seasons long, Parks and Recreation followed a familiar sitcom troupe, of a mockumentary style series made famous by the likes of The Office and Modern Family. An 8.6-rated series on IMDb, Parks and Recreation gave its fans innumerable iconic moments and a wealth of memorable characters.

From Chris Pratt to Rob Lowe, the series became an important part of a number of careers during its run and completely deserves the love and praise it continues to get. That also seems to be true with respect to the way the cast gelled off the screen, with Lowe only recently revealing how the major actors on the show have continued to keep in touch, even all these years later.

Rashida Jones To Direct ‘Playdate’ From Marie Østerbye’s Black List Script; Gloria Sanchez Producing
Rashida Jones (Sunny) is teaming with Gloria Sanchez on Playdate, the feature adaptation of Marie Østerbye’s original script, which landed at #2 on last year’s Black List. Jones will direct, with Jessica Elbaum and Will Ferrell producing for Gloria Sanchez.
In the film, a playdate erupts into full scale psychological warfare as two mothers confront the damage of childhood bullying, while their daughters engage in mind games of their own. UTA Independent Film Group reps rights to the project.
Previously co-directing the Emmy-nominated documentary Quincy on her father, record producer Quincy Jones, Jones has also helmed episodes of series like Roar, #BlackAF, and Angie Tribeca, on which she also starred. The Bleach anime stars some truly wonderful and memorable heroes, ranging from protagonist Ichigo Kurosaki himself to his classmates and his Soul Reaper allies. They have positive traits any shonen anime fan would approve of, from the power of friendship and incredible courage to a good sense of humor and plenty of love for all. Still, no one in Bleach is perfect, and even the main heroes have some negative traits to balance things out.
Any shonen anime hero ought to have a few flaws, after all, and Bleach's heroes also have relatable flaws that they might work on over time. Some of them have a rough side to their personality, for example, or they remain underpowered for too long or frustrate anime fans by fumbling all their best fights. Fortunately, the worst things about Bleach's heroes are all forgivable and are sometimes minor or harmless, but they also shouldn't be overlooked.

Actress, singer, songwriter, and rapper Janelle Monáe can now add “Michael Jackson impersonator” to her résumé.
The 10-time Grammy nominee brought down the house with her cover of M.J.’s “Don’t Stop ’til You Get Enough,” complete with a moonwalk, during the ceremony’s Quincy Jones tribute on Sunday night. Monáe performed while wearing a Jackson-esque sparkly tuxedo, bedazzled socks, and sunglasses. She danced with her microphone for much of the routine, and then pushed it aside as she hot-stepped effortlessly around the stage. Watch the video:

For my money, there's one easy answer to the question of the best television show of all time: it's "The Twilight Zone," obviously. Rod Serling's influential series, which originally premiered in 1959, offers something for everybody. There are scary episodes and thought-provoking ones, episodes with aliens and episodes with murder, and episodes that fall into the Western genre, science fiction, horror, and even comedy. That iconic theme music gives everything an air of the surreal, letting us know that we're watching a show where just about anything can happen.
Serling didn't like that the show reran in syndication, but that's part of what made it so enduring. From SyFy marathons to the series' ubiquity on various streaming services, audiences have been discovering "The Twilight Zone" for decades, sinking into its impressive back catalog in an effort to be scared, spooked, or simply entertained.

This article contains spoilers for the Bleach manga.
The Thousand-Year Blood War is the final arc in the Bleach anime, with its third and penultimate cour releasing its final episode on December 28, 2024. This significant arc showcased the final war between Soul Society and the hidden Quincy empire, the Wandenreich. Naturally, there will be many losses on both sides. In previous arcs, very few Bleach heroes died, but all that changed in the anime's grand finale.
Some characters who died in Thousand-Year Blood War were fairly minor, including fluff Sternritters like Shaz Domino or Jerome Guizbatt. However, other deaths were highly impactful and personally meaningful to the arc. Some deaths completely changed the war's course, whereas others marked serious changes for certain character arcs and Bleach lore.

Throughout Bleach's Thousand-Year Blood War Arc, individual Sternritter have only been given a little bit of focus on the whole. That changed in Bleach Episode 404, "Friend," an episode in which Bazz-b finally gets his time in the spotlight, even if the battle ends in his death. This episode also reveals his backstory and shows his goals to be surprisingly similar to Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez. However, Grimmjow may not have been the one to defeat Aizen, but he survived his battle and has surpassed his initial role in the story. Bazz-b never gained the narrative significance that the Arrancar has.
Both of these characters are well-loved fan favorites, as seen in the various popularity polls. Grimmjow has been making an impact on the series since his bold introduction. Fans are eager to see him finally get a fight of his own during the Thousand-Year Blood War arc. It's been a while since he's been in battle,...

The fourth and final cour of Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War is guaranteed to have plenty of incredible battles. Although two of Yhwach's Elite Guard have been defeated, victory isn't assured for the Soul Reapers just yet. Arguably, Lille Barro hasn't actually been beaten considering his clones now litter Soul Society beneath the Soul King's Palace. Not all is lost; Izuru Kira appears to have returned from the dead. He enters by saving his fellow Soul Reapers and turning to face the Sternritters with many clones. The anime hasn't shown any scenes with Kira surviving until now, so this is a shock.
Kira isn't the first character to have a fake-out death in the series, but it's still a surprise to see him return. One of the many ways the Thousand-Year Blood War arc differentiates itself from the rest of this shonen is by killing off characters. Kira's death showed...

The latest season of Bleach Tybw has come to a close. The third cour of the Thousand-Year Blood War Arc covered several different battles and important moments as the series progresses. There's only one more season of content after this one, so fans are eager to see how the climactic anime return of this classic shonen will be wrapped up. Thus far, Ichigo Kurosaki has only had one more major confrontation with Yhwach, so he has yet to prove how he can stand up against the Quincy Emperor. On the other hand, many other Soul Reapers have earned hard fought victories, even if the cost has been high. Despite this, there is still a lot more they have to face before they've won this battle.

Despite the popularity of the original Bleach anime, it had a lot of flaws. There are many fans who prefer to read the manga both because it avoids those flaws and doesn't have any filler. However, by the time the Thousand-Year Blood War arc was being written, it was being rushed. As a result, the manga version of the story is good, but it needs improvement. The many years between the manga and the anime adaptation of this arc left plenty of opportunity for the creative staff around the project to fix and adjust the flaws that the original faced.
This arc of Bleach is one of the most emotionally harsh on Ichigo Kurosaki. He's forced to confront lies he's been told his whole life. He's used by his enemies in new ways. Ichigo has a much greater gap to overcome to fight his opponents. Plus, he's dealing with betrayal like he never has before.

The Bleach anime recently treated fans to an excellent episode that had no Soul Reapers in it, instead focusing on two of the remaining Quincy: Sternritter B Jugram Haschwalth, and Sternritter H Bazz-b. Until now, both men were somewhat mysterious warriors, having no clear backstory or any personal bonds to speak of, but now fans know the truth. Jugram and Bazz-b share an emotionally charged backstory, down to the finest detail.
Keen-eyed observers no doubt noticed the stylized "B" on Bazz-b's armor, which no doubt reflected his own name and was a preview of Jugram's future rank as Sternritter B in the Wandenreich. In return, Jugram Haschwalth's own equipment has a symbol dedicated to his fiery friend, that being a button on his broadsword. Jugram received that button from his childhood friend Bazz-b, and it's still there to this day. That humanizes the Sternritter and makes their current battle all the more heartbreaking.

The Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War anime series marks the beginning of a new saga in Bleach's narrative, shocking anime fans with a new enemy and a (seemingly) new war. This has led to countless high-octane battles between Soul Reapers and the Quincy army, with standout fights including Kenpachi battling Gremmy Thoumaux and Rukia Kuchiki glowing up as she defeated Äs Nödt, but it's not just the flashiest, most memorable battles that contributed to this final story arc.
A few of the Tybw arc's fights are underrated, with a shining example being the multi-stage struggle against Sternritter J, Quilge Opie, back from the arc's early chapters/episodes. Quilge Opie wasn't quite as threatening as the likes of Jugram Haschwalth or Mask de Masculine, but he did play an essential role in establishing the Wandenreich as a credible threat while also raising the tension and confusion to new levels. The Thousand-Year Blood War arc has forced the characters of Bleach into positions that they may not otherwise feel ready for. Upheaval has been a reoccurring event throughout the different arcs of this shonen. When Rukia Kuchiki came into Ichigo Kurosaki's life, she turned it on its head. When Ichigo and his friends invaded Soul Society, they revealed some of the flaws in the system and Sosuke Aizen showed his own hand for the first time. Now, Soul Society has been torn apart, and the Soul Reapers don't have the upper hand even on their own turf. Combined with the loss of Captain Commander Genryusai Yamamoto, Shunsui Kyoraku can only hope to fill the shoes that Yamamoto left for him to lead his people through this battle.
While Kyoraku's appointment to the captain commander position isn't controversial among Soul Reapers, there's an underlying feeling that he isn't Yamamoto among them.

Shunsui Kyōraku is now the Captain Commander of the Thirteen Court Guard Squads, making him one of the strongest Soul Reapers in Bleach. His spiritual energy is immense and his Shikai brings children's games to life. Shunsui recently revealed his Bankai, which traps his opponent in a seemingly inescapable multi-act performance of certain death. With these powers, Shusui can defeat several notable Bleach characters.
Most of the characters Shunsui can defeat are fellow Soul Reapers who possess Shikai and Bankai, but he can defeat several high-ranking Quincy who have overpowered abilities of their own. He can also defeat a former Espada with ease. Shunsui can beat most of these characters with his Bankai, but he can defeat others using only Shikai.

Although they aren't from the most popular arc in Bleach, the Fullbringers have returned to play their part against Yhwach and his Quincy forces. To the surprise of Ichigo Kurosaki, Kisuke Urahara has arranged for several of his former enemies to come to his aid. As such, the Fullbringers manage to save Ichigo and his friends from Yhwach's reshaping of the Soul King's Palace. They have discovered new ways to apply their fullbrings and ability to manipulate souls that make them uniquely suited for this battle against the Quincy.
Fullbringers stand out among the many species in Bleach because they are alive and they have power. This makes them incredibly similar to the Quincy. However, the fundamental nature of their abilities works differently. The Fullbringers are also not an inherently organized group, unlike the Quincy. Although many of them worked together as part of Xcution, they had to be sought out and gathered together.

Yhwach is the primary antagonist of the Tybw arc and one of the most terrifying villains in the Bleach storyline.
The resurgence of the rivalry between Soul Reapers and Quincy has surprised fans, earning widespread applause from the fandom. Interestingly, Uryu’s English voice actor recently...

What couldn’t Quincy Jones do?
He wrote, composed and arranged music for your favorite artists and even produced films and TV shows that launched some of your favorite actors. He not only changed careers — he changed lives.
Here we break down some of the biggest acts and projects Jones worked on, from Michael Jackson’s seminal Thriller album to “We Are the World” to winning 28 Grammys, an Emmy and a Tony.
Michael Jackson
Before he met Jones while working on The Wiz, Jackson had been known for the Jackson 5 and released four solo albums that had mild success. Then they made Off the Wall and the King of Pop fully arrived. Released in 1979 around the time Jackson turned 21, the album helped him transition from young singer to critically acclaimed, matured artist. Ury Ishida is one of Bleach's central characters, and he plays a significant role in the Thousand-Year Blood War Arc. The anime recently revealed Ury's Quincy: Vollstndig transformation, which came as a surprise since he never used this technique in the manga. Quincy: Vollstndig enhances all of Urys physical abilities and it grants him access to special Energy Feathers that fire lethal energy projectiles. This form is strong, but there are several Bleach characters who can destroy Ury's Quincy: Vollstndig.
Many of the characters who can destroy Ury's Quincy: Vollstndig are Captain-ranked Soul Reapers with powerful Zanpakuto. Several high-ranked Quincy and a former Espada should be able to take Ury down as well. Most of these characters can destroy Ury's Quincy: Vollstndig because they possess insanely overpowered abilities.

Warning: Spoilers for Bleach: The Thousand-Year Blood WarBleach: Thousand-Year Blood War's second part wasted no time getting down to the plot, with its opening scenes promoting Uryu to a position of prominence in the Quincy organization, as well as granting him a new power. It's the nature of this new power, however, that just might make Uryu too overpowered for the plot.
In Thousand-Year Blood War, Quincy leader Yhwach gives his subordinates a special power, known as a "schrift," which corresponds to a letter of the alphabet. These powers can be quite strong, as seen with Bleach's Stern Ritter Y, who disguised himself as Yhwach and was able to fight at an incredible level while in that state. These Schrift powers are all enough to make their wielders a serious threat, and that goes for Uryu, too. There is one noteworthy aspect to Uryu receiving his schrift, though,...

It seems only right on All Hallows Eve that Jamie Lee Curtis might be cryptically teasing another go-round with the unstoppable Michael Myers in the Halloween franchise. During a brand-new interview, the famed Scream Queen spoke about a number of her upcoming projects, including her reunion with on-screen daughter Lindsay Lohan in next years Freakier Friday. However, the conversation took an intriguing turn when Curtis also insinuated that she might not be done with The Shape just yet. Curtis told Entertainment Weekly:
"I have hung up my bell-bottoms and my pale blue button-down shirt. And I have relinquished [Laurie Strode] to the ages with a warm, 'aloha,' and a thanks for all the years and memories. And yet, if Ive learned anything in my 65 years on the planet, its never say never."

The hip-hop world almost got the ultimate crossover, but ego and some serious shade put it to rest. Picture this: Tupac Shakur and Michael Jackson teaming up on a track, blending Pac’s raw grit with Mj’s iconic vocals. But it didn’t happen, and word is, it’s because Pac wasn’t about to let anyone—even the King of Pop—disrespect him.

Rumor has it, that the collaboration fizzled not due to creative differences but because Shakur reportedly felt Jackson just wasn’t bringing the same level of respect to the table. And, in classic Pac style, he wasn’t about to back down, even if it meant losing the chance to work with the King of Pop. Imagine what could’ve been if only they had found common ground.

Before embarking on her Star Trek voyage, the Indiana native wrote and produced episodes of such popular network crime fare as Quincy, M.E., Magnum, P.I., Jake and the Fatman and In the Heat of the Night. The nearly 60-year-old storytelling universe created by Gene Roddenberry feels as eternal as the cosmos itself. A new Star Trek series is currently streaming with more shows and films soaring onto screens in the future. Yet not only was this not inevitable, its success defied the odds and conventional wisdom. With the passing of legendary storyteller Jeri Taylor, fans are reminded Star Trek would have been a dead franchise long ago without her talent and tenacity. Before Star Trek: The Next Generation, no sequel television series was ever more successful than the original. In fact, the early seasons of Tng were troubled in large part because the show couldn't keep writers.

It's generally a given that even when the villains in shonen anime lay out every detail of their master plan, that plan is unquestionably immoral and must not come to pass. Such plans often revolve around destroying or controlling the world, for example, or just seekng power for its own sake. There's nothing sympathetic about what villains like All For One, Orochimaru, or Dio plan to do, for example. Meanwhile, in the Thousand-Year Blood War arc of the new Bleach anime, the villains actually have a halfway symapthetic reason to fight, even if it's in the world's best interest for them to lose.
The Thousand-Year Blood War arc got its name from the fact that the Quincy empire, headed by King Yhwach, seeks vengeance for their defeats in the millennium-long war between the Soul Reapers and the Quincy tribe. Yhwach and his allies are sticking to the facts when they...

Because of how long the series has run, Bleach has managed to balance its wide cast of characters fairly well. Plenty of characters get enough screen time to show development, and they usually come with interesting abilities as well. However, as the Thousand-Year Blood War adaptation is much shorter than the original series, characters are given much less time on the whole. While the anime has given interesting moments to many characters that weren't in the manga, it still brushes off moments that could have been flushed out more.
The Visored have been an important part of the story since Ichigo came back from Soul Society the first time. They got plenty of character development, and while their bankai weren't shown in the anime, they are still power houses. The Visored have always been in a unique position due to their nature. It has put them at odds with both Aizen and the Soul Society.

The following contains spoilers for the Bleach manga.
The lengthy Bleach manga/anime franchise is loaded with exciting battles, and it's usually the fairest and most even fights that fans love the most. Sometimes, a one-sided beatdown is a great way to raise the tension and show how strong a certain character is, but those hardly even feel like real fights. A fair duel between two evenly-matched characters is what Bleach fans want most of all, suchas Ichigo's and Byakuya's legendary duel in the fondly-remembered Soul Society story arc.
Now, the Thousand-Year Blood War story arc has set the stage for even more fights among true equals. At first, the anime had some brutally one-sided fights as the Wandenreich invaded, and even Yamamoto fell in a short and unfair matchup against the real Yhwach. Fortunately, the odds evened out in the long run, and Bleach's heroes had a...

When Bleach returned in 2022 with the Thousand-Year Blood War arc, fans rejoiced at the long-awaited adaptation of one of the most epic storylines in Tite Kubos manga. This arc, which marks the climactic war between the Soul Reapers and the Quincy, is packed with intense battles, jaw-dropping reveals, and some of the most pivotal moments in Bleach history.
While the anime adaptation has been largely faithful to the source material, there have been some noticeable omissions that manga readers have quickly picked up on. From significantly more in-depth character interactions, to fights that were packed with more detail, the manga presented these things differently than the anime.
The Anime Simplifies the Story Some Things Are Condensed Down Because of Limited Time
Related Should Bleach Thousand-Year Blood War Cour 3 Change Manga's Ending?
Bleach's manga ending was so divisive that fans are now praying that its animated grand finale will change it.

The following contains spoilers for Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Parts 1 and 2
Then and now, Bleach stood above its shnen contemporaries (both in manga and anime) because of the depth of its conflicts. Heroes and villains fought not just because they were good and evil, respectively, but because of more complex reasons and philosophies than anyone expected from what looked like any other typical battle shnen story at first glance. Bleach's heroes were anything but moral paragons, and even the most monstrous villains weren't wholly evil. The same applied to the Quincy, the central antagonists of Bleach's grand finale, the "Thousand-Year Blood War" Arc. Here, Soul Society fought the Wandenreich in a decisive battle that would decide the fate of countless lives and of existence itself.
As expected of Bleach, the Quincy were more than just an army of villains for Ichigo Kurosaki and friends to defeat and/or kill. Besides...

Rashida Jones never seriously considered pursuing music professionally, despite “a deep ache” for it, on account of her dad Quincy Jones being a “musical genius.”
The actress told the “Smartless” celebrity-hosted podcast that despite early love for performing and writing music, she didn’t think she’d be able to follow in her legendary father’s footsteps.
“My dad’s a musical genius, that’s like the last thing I want to do, is try my hand at that,” she said. “But I love it. I have a deep ache for music, and I just don’t ever feel like I’m good enough to do it.”
She added that she sings and writes for fun, even performing as a backup singer on a few albums — but that’s as far as it went.

Andrew Yancy (Vince Vaughn), the big-hearted, fast-talking cop at the center of Bad Monkey, has a way of stumbling into trouble. Based on Carl Hiassen’s 2013 bestselling novel of the same name, the series begins with a severed arm turning up in a tourist’s sport-fishing catch off the Florida Keys. Yancy’s boss, Sheriff Sonny Summers (Todd Allen Durkin), wants to avoid the hassle of an investigation and offers Yancy—who’s been suspended for assaulting the husband of his sometime girlfriend, Bonnie (Michelle Monaghan)—a deal: If he wants his badge back, he must make the arm (and the case) disappear.
The plan is upended when a suspicious woman named Eve Stripling (Meredith Hagner) turns up, tearfully claiming that the arm belongs to her late husband. Yancy’s curiosity is piqued, and what follows is a multi-plot romp involving insurance fraud, illegal property development in the Bahamas, and...

The Sharingan is one of the strongest kekkei genkai in Naruto, and it has been passed down through the Uchiha Clan for generations. This ocular kekkei genkai can see chakra, and it allows the user to copy any jutsu they see. The Sharingan grants incredible visual perception, allowing the user to read their opponent's movements. The base Sharingan is a tad overpowered in Naruto, but there are a few characters from Bleach who can counter it.
Most of the Bleach characters who can counter the Sharingan possess great spiritual power and somewhat broken abilities. Many of these Characters are high-level Soul Reapers and Quincies, but there is also an Arrancar that can make the Sharingan's visual prowess useless. The Sharingan can place others under a special type of genjutsu, but this would have no effect on Bleach characters since none of them possess chakra.

While the juggernaut shonen anime series Bleach is packed with countless battles in worlds like Karakura Town and Hueco Mundo, not many of those fights include the Quincy tribe. Lore-wise, the Quincy are one of the three major factions alongside the Soul Reapers and Hollows/Arrancars, but for a long time, Ichigo's shonen rival Uryu Ishida and his father Ryuken were the only Quincy around. That meant only a few battles in Bleach showed off what Quincy powers are like, but the Thousand-Year Blood War is changing all that.
Now, Bleach anime fans are getting what was long overdue: an expansion on the Quincy fighting style and more characters to use it. Now the Wandenreich has arrived as the heroes' endgame enemies, and that means introducing many powerhouse Quincy and their unique powers, which has led to plenty of excellent fight scenes. When TCM channel host Dave Karger used to be a writer for Entertainment Weekly in his early days as a print journalist, he would focus a great deal on interviewing the big pop stars of the day, along with his duties on the film beat. But little did very many people suspect then that what he really wanted to be writing about was “Laura”… not Branigan, but David Raksin’s music for the classic 1945 noir. That was the film that really prompted Karger’s lifelong love of movie scoring.

Jamie Lee Curtis played Dr. Samantha Ryan on NCIS, a headstrong character who is not afraid to bend the rules to get what she wants. Curtis and Mark Harmon, her co-star from Freaky Friday, reunited on NCIS, showcasing their excellent chemistry once again. Curtis had a short but impactful character arc on the show, bringing an important romantic storyline to Gibbs' character and providing a contrast to his gruff demeanor.
Academy Award-winning actor Jamie Lee Curtis appears in NCIS for a small but notable role. NCIS is one of the longest-running TV shows of all time and is a classic of procedural TV. Following the special agents of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, NCIS depicts a fictional group of law enforcement agents who investigate and prosecute criminal activities involving the US Navy and Marines. NCIS first premiered in 2003, and throughout its 20 seasons, dozens of guest actors have appeared for small arcs and scenes.

The following contains spoilers for the Bleach manga.
It's always exciting when an action/adventure shonen manga gets an anime adaptation, and for Bleach fans, that's actually happened twice. In the 2000s, studio Pierrot brought the Bleach manga to life. Much more recently in 2022, the Thousand-Year Blood War story arc finally arrived in anime form to finish Bleach's previously canceled anime. This means longtime fans of the franchise get to see all the best moments from the manga's final arc on the small screen, and there's still more to come.
The final anime arc is divided into four cours, or seasons of 12-13 episodes each, and the first two cours delivered in a big way. Fans got to watch the apocalyptic Quincy invasion unfold as the Soul Reapers desperately fought for survival, and stunning revelations were to be had for characters like Ichigo Kurosaki and Captain Unohana. Today, Apple TV+ announced that Sunny, its 10-episode mystery thriller with a darkly comic bent, is set to premiere globally with the first two episodes on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, followed by new episodes every Wednesday through September 4.
Created by Katie Robbins, who also serves as showrunner, and executive producer and director Lucy Tcherniak, Sunny stars Emmy Award nominee multi-hyphenate Rashida Jones.
Jones also serves as executive producer, along with stars Hidetoshi Nishijima, Joanna Sotomura, Judy Ongg, You, Annie the Clumsy, and Jun Kunimura.
Sunny stars Jones as Suzie, an American woman living in Kyoto, Japan, whose life is upended when her husband and son disappear in a mysterious plane crash. As “consolation,” she’s given Sunny, which is one of a new class of domestic robots made by her husband’s electronics company.
Though Suzie initially resents Sunny’s attempts to fill the void in her life, they gradually develop an unexpected friendship.

Ron Thompson, the unheralded actor who starred on Broadway for Charles Gordone in the Pulitzer Prize-winning No Place to Be Somebody and played father and son musicians for Ralph Bakshi in the animated cult classic American Pop, has died. He was 83.
Filmmaker Joe Black told The Hollywood Reporter that he found Thompson in his Van Nuys apartment on Saturday afternoon. The two had worked together in eight features, including Hate Horses (2017), Chicks, Man (2018) and Suffrage (2023), and Black visited him a couple times a week to help him out.
“For a man of his age, he was so full of life, he had such a presence,” Black said. He called Thompson “the Sam Jackson to my Tarantino.”
In 1969, Thompson originated off-Broadway the role of Shanty Mulligan in the Joseph Papp-produced No Place to Be Somebody, starring Ron O’Neal, then accompanied the drama to Broadway and on a tour around the country.
