Podcast studio Kast Media and production company Big IP Media have teamed up for a multi-year distribution deal for four popular shows that simulcast on podcast and video platforms and a first-look deal for new simulcast projects.

The two companies announced a distribution deal last month for Happy Sad Confused, an interview podcast hosted by Josh Horowitz that launched in 2014, added YouTube to its distribution in 2022, and just launched in video on Spotify.

The decision to leave, according Wood, was based on the demand of the correspondent’s role on his schedule and attention, as well as a disinterest in continuing in the position while “waiting for someone else to take the top job,” according to NPR.

“I can’t come up with [what] Plan B is while still working with Plan A,” Wood said. “The job of correspondent … it’s not really one where you can juggle multiple things. [And] I think eight years is a good run.”

Ron Faber, a theater, television and film actor who appeared in “The Exorcist,” died on March 26 of lung cancer. He was 90.

Faber’s career as an actor landed him roles in films including “The Exorcist,” “Tree of Guernica” and “The Private Files of J. Edgar Hoover,” in addition to appearances on TV episodes of “Law and Order,” “Kojak” and “The Edge of Night.”

In 1973’s “The Exorcist,” Faber played the role of Chuck, an assistant director who reveals to Chris MacNeil (Ellen Burstyn) that Burke Dennings (Jack MacGowran) has died. He was also part of Broadway productions including “First Monday in October” with Henry Fonda and “Medea” with Irene Papas.

No film of the Hays Code era revels in its own perversity quite like Mad Love (1935). Mad science, body horror, insanity, obsession, executions, gaslighting, sadomasochism—it’s all here and presented with unparalleled excellence of craft. Gabourey Sidibe is set to make her feature directorial debut with the psychological thriller “Pale Horse” for Gamechanger Films.

The film is being co-developed and financed by Gamechanger, a production company and development fund dedicated to projects by and about women, people of color, the LGBTQ+ community and people with disabilities. The film is slated to shoot this fall.

“Pale Horse” is based on a story by Chris Courtney Martin (“The Last Laugh”), with a screenplay by Asabi Lee and Paul Hart-Wilden (“Wolf Town”). Described as a psychological thriller set in the Pacific Northwest, the film follows an African American woman named Naia, who is also a celebrated, reclusive author living with multiple sclerosis. As the story progresses, Naia finds herself ensnared in a diabolical mystery when she shelters the man who escaped captivity with her long-missing brother.

Oscar-nominated actor Gabourey Sidibe (Precious) is making her feature debut with psychological thriller Pale Horse, which is scheduled to shoot this fall.

Set in the Pacific Northwest, Pale Horse follows Naia, an esteemed, yet reclusive African-American YA book author who is living with Ms. When Naia decides to shelter the man who escaped captivity with her long-missing brother, she finds herself caught up in a diabolical mystery.

Asabi Lee and Paul Hart-Wilden (Wolf Town) scripted the film, which is based on a story by Chris Courtney Martin (The Last Laugh).

Exclusive: Fledgling U.S. production firm Rivulet Media has wrapped production today in LA on writer-director Greg Pritikin’s (The Last Laugh) feature The Mistress starring John Magaro (First Cow) and Chasten Harmon (Paterson).

The film was inspired by the history of Pritikin’s Angelino Heights home, and was shot almost entirely on the property.

The film follows newlyweds Parker (Magaro) and Madeline (Harmon) who move into their dream home – a 1892 Queen Ann Victorian in LA’s historic Angelino Heights neighborhood. Shortly after arriving they discover a collection of 100-year-old letters hidden in the walls – desperate and lovelorn correspondence from a young woman who committed suicide after being shunned and abandoned by the owner of the home – a married businessman with whom she was having an affair. While the tragedy of the mistress’s correspondence begins to manifest with disturbing spectral frequency, Maddie begins to suspect that Parker is hiding something dark from his past.

Plenty of beloved television shows have been revived over the years, but don’t expect “Arrested Development” to make a triumphant return.

David Cross, who portrayed Tobias Fünke on the acclaimed sitcom, discussed the show and a handful of other topics in a recent interview on The Daily Beast’s The Last Laugh podcast. Cross noted that a lack of scripts, extended shoots, and various tensions made it difficult for the cast and crew to work on the show and repeatedly stated the show would not be coming back.

Tig Notaro was the star and creator of Amazon Prime’s comedy series “One Mississippi,” which ran for two seasons and 24 episodes between 2016 and 2017. The streaming giant canceled the show in January 2018. While Notaro intended to continue “One Mississippi” into a third season, the comedian tells The Daily Beast on this week’s episode of “The Last Laugh” podcast that she was partly excited the series was axed because it meant she would never have to think about Louis C.K. again. Myriad Pictures has acquired worldwide rights to the Alicia Witt romantic comedy “Modern Persuasion,” which will premiere at the Cannes Virtual Market.

The film, an adaptation of Jane Austen’s 1817 novel “Persuasion,” is directed by Alex Appel and Jonathan Lisecki from a script by Lisecki and Barbara Radecki. The film also stars Liza Lapira, Daniela Pineda, Shane McRae and Bebe Neuwirth.

“Modern Persuasion” centers on Witt’s character, a happily single and self-confessed workaholic who, after steadfastly rising to the top of the ladder in the New York corporate publicity world, finds herself coming home every night to her cat. Rob Paris is producing via his Paris Film alongside Gül Karakiz Bildik and the producers have earmarked a February 2020 production start.

Kramer co-wrote the screenplay with Noel David Taylor about newlyweds who fall foul of a gang in 1950s Manhattan when they witness a murder. CAA Media Finance handles sales and arranged the financing on Please Baby Please.

Hawke reunites with her Ladyworld director Kramer. She recently wrapped production on Gia Coppola’s Mainstream opposite Andrew Garfield.

Cinedigm, an independent content distributor and digital platform operator, has acquired North American rights to cross-cultural holiday drama “A New Christmas.” The film will have its world premiere at the Heartland International Film Festival on Oct. 13.

Cinedigm plans to release it in North American cinemas, on digital and on demand in December.

“A New Christmas” is written by Travis Hodgkins and directed by Daniel Tenenbaum (“Landing Up”).

Indo-American actor Prashantt Guptha (“The Tashkent Files”) stars as a lonely medical student in New York, estranged from his wife. For awhile, it looked like Richard Dreyfuss was done with acting, as he appeared to be retiring from Hollywood. But over the last few years, he has returned with a vengeance. Now, he takes on one of his most interesting projects in the last decade with Astronaut. The movie hits theaters this weekend. And we have an exclusive clip that sets up Dreyfuss' outer space voyage in this charming drama for the whole family to enjoy.
