Bong Joon Ho‘s upcoming science fiction film, “Mickey 17,” is scheduled to debut in South Korean theaters on Feb. 28, preceding its global release by a week, Warner Bros. Korea said on Friday. The $118 million production is Bong’s first directorial effort since the Oscar-winning “Parasite.”

Pattinson is set to join Bong in Seoul on Jan. 20 to kick off the movie’s promotional tour. The duo will participate in a press conference and showcase exclusive footage at Cgv Yongsan.

Based on the 2022 novel “Mickey7” by Edward Ashton, the sci-fi thriller stars Pattinson an “expendable” employee named Mickey Barnes. In the novel, Mickey is sent on dangerous missions to colonize an ice planet. When one version of Mickey dies, a duplicate is created to replace him that retains most of his memories. The cast also includes Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette and Mark Ruffalo.

Screen Ireland has hired Kate McColgan as its Head of Television.

McColgan previously worked for the Irish company Parallel Films as Development and Production Manager, overseeing their TV & Film slate. She also had stints at MTV where she managed the launch of MTV Arabia Television across the UAE and Arab Regions and at Element Pictures where she managed the company’s television co-production slate from 2011-2013 including TV series Ripper Street and Blood. She was also Head of European Production for US distributor MPI Media across film and television. As a producer, her credits include From The Dark, The Drummer and the Keeper, the TV series Darklands, and The Heist Before Christmas.

The organization has said McColgan will be responsible for the management of the Screen Ireland slate across television and animation series, from development to production. She will work closely with Irish and international broadcasters and streamers. Her remit...

Nyx UK presents nine horrific channel premieres in August, headed up by FrightFest classics The Last Horror Movie and Summer Scars. Both disturbing psychological horrors are directed by Julian Richards and star Kevin Howarth in two of his most memorable roles. Nyz UK also premieres Darklands, another British horror film directed by Julian Richards, which delves into the world of ancient pagan rituals and modern-day conspiracies and stars Craig Fairbrass.

Exclusive: Capstone Studios and Hammerstone Studios have rounded out the cast for their supernatural thriller, Black Box (Flight 298). Newcomers include Dane Whyte O’Hara (Darklands), Danny Mac (Sunset Boulevard), Kaja Chan (1899), Asa Ali (Euphoria), Boadicea Ricketts (Grantchester), Cel Spellman (White Lines), Molly Belle Wright (Deep Water) and Georgina Leonidas (Harry Potter franchise).

No character details have been disclosed. As we were first to report, Tom Brittney, Holly White and Betsy Blue English lead the cast.

Based on short film The Vessel, Black Box examines the supernatural events that surround Vero Airlines Flight 298 from New Orleans to Seattle. Steven Quale is directing from a script by Stephen Susco.

Hammerstone Studios’ Alex Lebovici and Jon Oakes are producing alongside Capstone’s Christian Mercuri and David Haring (Bill & Ted Face the Music), Warren Zide, and Susco. Ruzanna Kegeyan and Roman Viaris of Capstone, and Clark Baker (Vessel) executive produce. Sacker Law is handling production legal.

Abigail is the third vampire movie from the Universal Monsters brand in the past year, the film scaring up $34.7 million at the worldwide box office these past few weeks. That gives it a higher worldwide gross than both The Last Voyage of the Demeter ($21.7 million) and Renfield ($26.4 million), and it’s also the most critically successful of the three vampire movies.

The short-lived, bite-sized entertainment experiment gave us some horror gems including a horror anthology series from Sam Raimi, most of which is currently unavailable to watch anywhere. But there’s good news for one of Quibi’s projects this week, as Veena Sud’s series “The Stranger” has found new life over on the Hulu streaming service.

In December 2022, the critically acclaimed, mega-successful stage musical based on Roald Dahl’s beloved children’s book Matilda came to cinemas translated into a punchy, inventive feature film. Written by playwright and screenwriter Dennis Kelly with songs and lyrics by comedian and writer Tim Minchin (Upright), the musical – like the book – is a terrific blend of poignancy and rebellious satire.

Famously adapted for a 1996 American feature film starring writer Mara Wilson in the title role, Matilda is the story of an extraordinary young girl born into a neglectful family who are unable to see, or appreciate her uniqueness. Matilda Wormwood isn’t just an academic genius, and when she goes up against the cruel, child-hating headmistress Miss Trunchbull, she uses her powers to right a generational wrong.

Working Title and Studiocanal romantic comedy “What’s Love Got To Do With It?,” directed by Shekhar Kapur (“Elizabeth”), has added to its cast.

Joining the existing cast of Lily James (“Yesterday”), Shazad Latif (“Departure”) and Emma Thompson (“Last Christmas”) are British actors Rob Brydon (“The Trip to Greece”) and Asim Chaudhry (“Wonder Woman 1984”), Pakistan’s Sajal Ali (“Mom”) and veteran Indian actor Shabana Azmi (“Kaali Khuhi”).

Emma Thompson, Lashana Lynch and Alisha Weir will join Netflix’s musical adaptation of the beloved children’s story “Matilda,” directed by Matthew Warchus.

Thompson will play Miss Trunchbull while Weir, who has appeared in the Irish TV series “Darklands,” takes on the title role of the young girl who learns to use her special powers. Lynch was earlier reported to be in talks for the role of Miss Honey.

“‘Matilda’ will be an imaginative and fresh retelling of the award-winning musical, featuring talented young newcomers, alongside established stars. I look forward to introducing this beloved and powerful story to a new generation of fans around the world,” Warchus said.

Billy Batson rounds out the Shazam Family for his battle with Black Adam and the Deadly Sins.

Shazam is turning in one of my favorite villain team ups of all time. I can think of other rogues galleries that might make me lose my mind harder, but pound for pound, putting the Seven Deadly Sins, Dr. Sivana, Mr. Mind, and Black Adam on the same page is almost guaranteed to make me excited.

Dr. Sivana is pretty much my ideal mad scientist. He’s as arrogant as any other villain in comics, and when that’s done well, it’s perfection. If you peel away Sivana’s self regard, he can actually be a pretty capable villain, but his ridiculously high opinion of himself always gets in the way and leads to his defeat.

Black Adam is surprisingly one of my favorite characters in all of comics because of his versatility.

In its latest funding round, Vikings and Brooklyn backer Screen Ireland has funded new projects from six-time Oscar nominee Jim Sheridan, Ida scribe Rebecca Lenkiewicz and Maudie director Aisling Walsh.

The largest production awards of €700k went to Cowtown Pictures’ movie L.O.L.A by Andrew Legge and Rachel Carey’s comedy Cutters from O’Sullivan Productions. The former, set in 1940s England, tells the story of Thomasina, who invents a machine that can intercept broadcasts from the future.

Movies to get development funding include Jim Sheridan projects Murphy And The Indian and Sheriff Street, Aisling Walsh project The Ballroom for Parallel Film and Malgorzata Szumowska (The Other Lamb) project A Kind Of Longing. Murphy And The Indian will follow the true story of Standing Bear, a Native American and civil rights leader who won a landmark 1879 legal case. Sheridan’s Hell’s Kitchen is producing.

Just coming off a film festival run, Reborn is slated for an upcoming U.S. release, this September. Influenced by films of the past, like Carrie (1976) and Firestarter (1984), Reborn gives one traumatized, young woman electrokinetic powers. Determined to reunite with her mother, Tess (Kayleigh Gilbert) will not let anyone stand in between her and her goal. Reborn is an entertaining thriller, which moves along at a quick clip. And, this is one indie, horror film that should be seen by audiences. Right from the film's poster, Reborn admits its influences. The graphic references Carrie in the tagline: "Carrie for the Z Generation.
