House of Villains, E!’s new series featuring reality TV baddies such as Vanderpump Rules’ Jax Taylor and The Apprentice’s Omarosa, is looking to “lean into the comedy” of the genre, according to its exec producer.
John Irwin, who runs Irwin Entertainment and has produced celebrity house shows such as Celebrity Rehab and Sober House, told Deadline, “From the beginning, our strategy was to lean into the comedy of this concept and for the show to parody itself and the genre.”
Irwin explained that the show, which pits the reality villains against each other via a series of challenges in order to win $200,000, was initially developed by the NBCUniversal-owned cable network.
John Irwin
He said that Joel McHale was their first choice. “Not only is he insanely funny, he’s also a hard-core fan of reality television and familiar with most of our cast from his days on The Soup.

At a time when linear networks are largely managing the decline, with live viewing of entertainment programming dropping double digits every year, it is very rare for a net to set a multi-year high in primetime. VH1 did it on Monday this week with the return of Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta and Love & Hip Hop: Miami, which led the Paramount Global network to its highest Monday primetime Live+Same Day adults 18-49 rating (0.557) and share (3.22) in over two years, since April 2020 and March 2020, respectively.
Veteran Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta kicked off the second half of its tenth season with a 0.68 18-49 rating/4.02 share and 756K total viewers in L+Sd, up +6, 26 and 1, respectively vs. Season 10 averages.
Love & Hip Hop: Miami then turned up the heat as its Season 4B premiere (0.66/9p) posted its best demo rating (0.66) and share (3.60) in more than two years, up 57 and 95, respectively vs. the full prior season.

Although many Americans know Amara La Negra as the Latina breakout star from Love & Hip Hop: Miami, many Latinos remember Diana Danelys De Los Santos as the lone dark-skinned cast member on the Spanish-language variety show, Sábado Gigante. On the most recent episode of Love & Hip Hop: Miami, Jessie Woo attended Tarana Burke’s panel after Trina invited a few of the women to join her. It was a heavy moment for the VH1 series. During the panel, Jessie started to break down. The weight of her own sexual assault was too much and as Burke and the other women spoke about the #MeToo movement and just the sheer number of rape and sexual assault victims, she couldn’t hold back. “Every person in this room understands,” Tarana told Jessie as the women around them echoed, “We believe you.” […]

VH1’s “Love & Hip Hop: Miami” is samba-ing to a new night.
The South Beach spinoff of hit series and franchise-sparker “Love & Hip Hop” will return to the Viacom cable channel on Wednesday, Jan. 2 at 8/7c. Fans of the South-Florida version of the show will want to update their DVRs from Monday recordings to Wednesdays.
The New York City-version will air on Mondays as “Miami” holds down Wednesdays. That means VH1 gets a double-dose of tune-in — and TV ratings are the strength of the reality-show universe.
“Love & Hip Hop: Miami” marked VH1’s highest rated reality launch since 2014 when it debuted last January, and the various incarnations of “Love & Hip Hop” regularly rank as cable’s No. 1 unscripted show on Monday nights.
