Safy Nebbou’s Who You Think I Am has topped UK streaming platform Curzon Home Cinema’s (Chc) most-watched films for a second week as audiences continue to seek home entertainment during the lockdown.

A month after all cinemas closed across the UK, in a bid to stem the spread of Covid-19, Curzon’s streaming platform reported a 211% revenue increase on the equivalent weekend in 2019.

However, income from April 17-19 was down 31% on the previous weekend, highlighting the importance of launching strong, new titles on a weekly basis.

The romantic drama, starring Juliette Binoche, delivered the platform’s biggest three-day opening for a premium VoD title to date.

Disney-Pixar’s latest animated offering Onward opens wide at the UK box office this weekend, as the coronavirus epidemic threatens to affect UK box office takings.

Directed by Dan Scanlon, Onward is the story of two teenage elf brothers in a suburban fantasy world who embark on a quest to see if magic still exists.

Screen Star of Tomorrow 2012 Tom Holland and Chris Pratt lead the voice cast, which also includes Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Octavia Spencer and Lena Waithe. The film debuted as a Special title at last month’s Berlin Film Festival.

To celebrate the release of Sulphur and White, which hits UK cinemas this week, we had the pleasure of sitting down the film’s cast, director and real-life subject to chat about its release, its huge importance and why the time is right for the story to be told.

Directed by Julian Jarrold (Brideshead Revisited), the film tells the true-life story of David Tait, a man who suffered horrific childhood trauma and found solace years later in the redemptive power of love and climibing Mount Everest for the Nspcc. Jarold talks about his friendship and admiration for him whilst Tait talks about watching the filmmaking process from afar and watching the final result.

This year’s festivities kicked off with with a bang with the opening night gala which presented Alice Winocour’s beautifully atmospheric drama Proxima. Winocour was also present after the main event for a Q&a session in which she talked about her experiences of working with a multi-national team of actors and technicians.

Day 2 was marked by the Scottish premier screening of Lorcan Finnegan’s brilliantly unsettling sci-fi drama Vivarium. Finnegan and star of the film Imogene Poots were also there to introduce the film.

The festival also welcomed Icelandic director Grímur Hákonarson who was there to introduce his new film The County. Hákonarson also stayed afterwards for a short Q&a session. The County is part of a wider Icelandic strand at this year’s Gff. Other films in this strand also feature the brilliant A white, White Day by Hlynur Palmason.

Drama to receive a royal world premiere.

Modern Films has secured UK rights to Julian Jarrold’s drama Sulphur And White from Altitude.

The film, which stars Game Of Thrones’ Mark Stanley and Cannes best actress winner Emily Beecham, will receive a theatrical release on March 6.

Its world premiere will take place in London on February 27 in association with the Nspcc and in the presence of the children’s charity Royal patron, Sophie, countess of Wessex.

The film is based on the true story of City trader and mountaineer David Tait, played by Stanley, whose professional success masks a series of traumatic secrets.

Exclusive: Cannes Best Actress 2019 winner Emily Beecham (Little Joe) has joined Disney’s live-action prequel Cruella.

About a young Cruella de Vil, the ‘baddie’ from Disney classic 101 Dalmations, the family pic is currently shooting in the UK at Shepperton Studios. Previously announced are Emma Stone as de Vil, Emma Thompson, Paul Walter Hauser and Joel Fry.
