What do you do when the last spinoff of your favorite Canadian sci-fi show ended ages ago and you've worn out your DVD box set rewatching it? Management company Night has brought in former Unrealistic Ideas exec Jared Jacobs as vice president of development for Night Studios, its creator-centered content production arm.
“At Night, we think that digital creators are well on their way to becoming the most influential personalities in the entertainment industry, and we expect this trend to only grow in the coming years,” a Night representative tells Tubefilter.
To that end, Night Studios intends to team up with some of the more than 50 creators Night manages to produce everything from podcasts to TV shows to animated projects, films, documentaries, and live programming.
Jacobs, as previously mentioned, joins from Mark Wahlberg-founded Unrealistic Ideas, where he was director of development. Before joining Unrealistic Ideas, he spent more than two years at Blumhouse Productions, working on unscripted series including HBO‘s What Happened, Brittany Murphy? and Netflix‘s Our Father. Prior to that, he was with William Morris Endeavor.

Based on Bruce Feiler’s memoir of the same name, the show follows Scott Perry and his family, whose lives are thrown into upheaval when he gets a potentially terminal diagnosis. Facing his mortality, he and his wife, Robin, assemble a unique group of carefully chosen friends to support his family and guide them through the ups and downs of life’s many challenges.

Chelsea Handler has signed a first-look deal with Universal Television and Universal Television Alternative Studio. The move brings the comic back into the NBCUniversal fold following the cancellation of her much-hyped Netflix talk show last year.
Under the new agreement, Handler will develop and produce scripted and unscripted programming for the studios.
