RightsTrade Inks Pact with Spain’s Rtve and Movistar + (Exclusive)
In a bid to ramp up its international content, leading online B2B licensing platform RightsTrade has inked a landmark deal with Spain’s Telefonica-owned pay TV/VOD service Movistar+ and public broadcaster Rtve.

By adding 25,000 hours of film and TV programming from these two major Spanish media companies to its content from other Hispanic providers, RightsTrade has cemented its claim as the leading content hub for Spanish-language content.

Programming from Rtve includes its most recent primetime series, such as “El Continental,” “A Different View” (“La Otra Mirada”), “Hounds” (“Sabuesos”), “Vintage” (“Gran Reserva”) and “Treason” (“Traición”). Documentaries shot in 4K include “El Prado, a Passion for Painting” (“La Pasión del Prado”) and “Spanish Cities, World Heritage Sites,” along with feature films and other shows.

Univision Launches Subscription Streaming Service
Univision launched a subscription streaming service to provide on-demand access to its Spanish-language programming and offer content from BBC Studios, Rtve, Televisa, Viacom and others.

The new Svod service, announced this morning at a press briefing, is an extension of Univision’s live streaming service, Univision Now. Existing pay TV subscribers can gain access to the on-demand library for an additional $2.99 a month. New digital subscribers who want access to to Univision’s linear programming and the on-demand content for $7.99.

“Think of it as the epicenter of Spanish-language entertainment – anchored and curated by Univision and bringing together the best titles from around the globe by other leading media companies and content creators,” said Tonia O’Connor, Univision’s chief revenue officer.

Such over-the-top services are increasingly important to networks looking to reach a generation of viewers who may have canceled their cable subscription, or never signed up in the first place.

After executive producing Rtve’s ground-breaking TV thriller “Desaparecida,” Ramón Campos and Teresa Fernández-Valdés launch their own TV production company, Bambú Producciones.

2008

-Sept. 26. Police-thief pursuit skein “Guante blanco,” Bambú’s first primetime TV drama, receives a stellar premiere gala at the San Sebastian Film Festival before kicking-off – and underperforming – on Rtve’s La1 primetime.

2009.

-Sept. 17. Not giving up in discouragement, Bambú and Rtve re-team on “Gran Reserva,” Bambú’s first hit. A family saga set in the vineyards of La Rioja, he series combines melodrama and thriller elements, one of Bambú’s TV fiction hallmarks. “It underscored the importance of bad characters in a TV series,” Teresa Fernández-Valdés says. TV Azteca adapted the series in Mexico.
