Warning: This article includes Spoilers from the Superman & Lois series finale. The Arrowverse's version of The Death of Superman was almost going to look very different, as one of the Superman & Lois stars opens up on the season 4 approach of the DC arc. While they took some creative liberties, the Superman & Lois season 4 story did give fans a new adaptation of The Death of Superman saga that has been one of the Man of Steel's most iconic moments in the DC canon. However, the audience was close to getting a different version of The Death of Superman in Superman & Lois season 4.
In a new interview with Screen Rant, Superman & Lois star Wolé Parks, who portrayed John Henry Irons, a.k.a. Steel, was asked if his character was originally meant to have a bigger role in season 4. Given Steel's involvement with The Death of Superman/Reign of the Supermen,...

Superman & Lois is in its final season, and recent events have me worried that the ending of the DC Universe series may be ushered in with another gripping and surprising moment of closure for its most popular character. Superman & Lois season 4, episode 8 made some dramatic contributions to the series, further examining Clark's recent unmasking. With Superman's identity having been revealed to the world, and with him now living with Sams heart in his chest, I believe there are some enormous story implications that will take the focus of the series' ending.
In DC media, Superman has died a number of times, and each of these deaths has had important and varied effects on the universe. What I find to be consistent in these stories, however, is how they set up other heroes to take on Superman's work. The comics saw heroes like Steel appear in "Reign of the Supermen...

Quick Links Who Is DC's Gordon Godfrey? What Does Tom Cavanagh's Godfrey Do in Superman & Lois?
The following contains spoilers from Superman & Lois, Season 4, Episode 8, "Sharp Dressed Man."
When it comes to Superman & Lois' fourth and final season, there are some interesting players added to the mix. It's a truncated season that has seen regulars reduced to guest roles, or in the case of Dylan Walsh's General Sam Lane, killed off. But there are fresh faces involved to add depth to the story.
One new face is Douglas Smith's Jimmy Olsen, Superman's "Best Pal" in a key arc that plays into Clark Kent's history at the Daily Planet. Another big appearance now occurs thanks to an Arrowverse alumni. This is none other than Tom Cavanagh, who shocks fans as he suits up as a new version of Gordon Godfrey.

The following contains spoilers from Superman & Lois, Season 4, Episode 8, "Sharp Dressed Man."
The Flash alum Tom Cavanagh made his DC return in Monday night's episode of Superman & Lois, although it wasn't as the Reverse-Flash. Instead, the fan-favorite actor portrayed a Jack Kirby-created DC Comics character who first appeared in the 1970s.
In "Sharp Dressed Man," the eighth episode of Superman & Lois' fourth and final season, Cavanagh appears as talk show host Gordon Godfrey. The character is based on the New God Glorious Godfrey, who first appeared in The Forever People #3 in 1971 and is intended to embody the type of powerful, charismatic speaker who can talk people into justifying violence and evil. Gordon Godfrey is a pretty obscure pull for Superman & Lois, as the character hasn't been adapted much, appearing only in the series Justice League, Smallville, and Young Justice, as well as the 2019 DC Animated Movie Universe movie,...

As if the fierce-flowing mullet of Superman wasn't iconic enough, an electrifying upgrade almost gave him the '90s best haircut possible. A tweet recalls a blast from the past that shows several amazing potential takes on the Man of Steel's most shocking form.
While Clark Kent has had a number of alterations to his costume over the years, his split into two colorful energy-based forms remains one of his most bizarre. Inspired by the Silver Age story "The Amazing Story of Superman-Red and Superman-Blue!", Clark Kent was separated into two distinct versions of himself, after the Toyman and Cyborg-Superman lured the hero into a trap. In addition to both heroes displaying more energy-oriented powers, each version of Superman had a radically different personality and approach to fighting crime. But before his big change in '90s was cemented, several ideas were considered, one of which almost gave...

Fans of Superman & Lois are preparing for the final season coming this fall, and there are a few things we’d love to see in the last year!
The CW has been in a major state of flux in the last few years, thanks to network upheaval and the cancellation of scores of shows. That includes the beloved Arrowverse with Superman & Lois eking out a renewal for a fourth and final season. That’s good, as the third season ended on a huge cliffhanger of Superman battling Doomsday.
Season 4 has changes like a big cast overhaul and only ten episodes. Yet, as we get ready to take off into it, here are ten things we’d love to see in Superman & Lois season 4 that would make this final year a great one for fans.

We all know who Superman is.
Superman, created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Schuster in 1938, wasn't the first superhero character in modern media, but he tends to be held up as one of the genre's central archetypes. His red wrestler's cape and red strong man's trunks, paired with his super strength and ability to defy gravity, have all become central symbols of what a superhero is, how a superhero should behave, and what a superhero looks like. Hundreds of thousands of superheroes have been invented since 1938, but many of those produced by mainstream comics outlets like Marvel or DC owe Superman a direct debt. In the same way that every on-screen Dracula is a riff on Bela Lugosi's performance in Tod Browning's 1931 movie, Superman is either being enhanced or subverted by every comic book superhero character. But he is the mainstay.

Quick Links Tell More Faithful Adaptations of the Comics Again Replicate the Comic Book Art in Animation Tie Future Projects Into Future Dcu Projects Under new leadership, DC Studios will maintain its successful animated movie lineup alongside new Dcu projects. The quality of DC animated films is at its strongest when faithfully adapting popular comic book stories, not reinventing them. Animation should replicate the art styles of the comics directly to set projects apart and appeal to fans looking for authentic adaptations.
While Marvel has thrived far more with its live-action films over the years, DC has been the opposite with its most consistent work produced in animation. Since 2007, Warner Bros. has produced straight-to-home video animated DC films that have gained a cult following and continue to this day. DC's approach to these 51 projects has changed a lot since 2007, and they now fall under James Gunn and Peter Safran's newly formed DC Studios.

Superman & Lois is unlucky that it began as the older regime at The CW was coming to an end. Superman & Lois, more likely than not, would've followed suit with The Flash and Arrow, continuing for close to ten years. But with Nexstar making major changes to The CW's programming, including canceling Arrowverse shows like Batwoman and Stargirl, Superman & Lois was never going to survive for a long time on the network.
Thankfully, Superman & Lois wasn't canceled, as it was given a final season to make sure everything closed out satisfyingly. However, The CW's renewal comes at a cost as nearly all the series regulars from Season 3, barring the Kent family, will be guest stars in the upcoming season. The budget cuts threaten to be a problem, but so far from the teaser trailer that The CW released for Season 4, the quality looks to be similar.

The final season of Superman & Lois will be based on a bold comic book storyline, promising an emotional and exciting premiere. The show may adapt a mix of The Death of Superman and Reign of the Supermen, introducing an intense plot for its last season. With only ten episodes left, Superman & Lois writers may have to rush the adaptation to give fans closure in the final run.
Elizabeth Tulloch, who portrays Lois Lane, prepares DC viewers to see a bold Superman comic book arc to be adapted in Superman & Lois season 4. While 2023 was the conclusion to the Dceu movie timeline, 2024 will mark the end of The CW's Arrowverse franchise. Even though it takes place on a different Earth, the Superman & Lois TV show is still Arrowverse-adjacent, as the Greg Berlanti-produced drama is set to be the last DC TV show on The CW.

This article contains spoilers regarding the first two episodes of X-Men ‘97.
Both children of Generation X and Children of the Atom have rejoiced with the early success of X-Men ‘97. The show, now streaming new episodes every Wednesday on Disney+, is a child born out of the nostalgia of the kids who once gathered around box-style televisions on Saturday morning to watch their favorite heroes. More importantly, those young viewers are now grown adults, with several of them a part of this new project.
Among those adults is supervising producer Jake Castorena. Before crossing the tracks to Marvel, Castorena predominantly worked with the tremendously successful animation team at DC, helming direct-to-video films such as The Death of Superman, and Reign of the Supermen. While the Dceu at times floundered in its creative journey, Warner Bros. could almost always count on its DC animated films to be critically and even commercially successful.

Though they've made a fraction of the box office of even the worst DC live-action movie, creatively the crown jewel of DC Comics adaptations lies in their animated movies. It's through animation that the potential of comic book adaptations really shines. Ever since "Superman: Doomsday" was released in 2007, we've had movies that faithfully adapt popular comics storylines (rather than just borrow the name for brand recognition and throw the rest away), original films with wild concepts, and even movies that build on continuity like the biggest cinematic universes.
This is one of the most interesting aspects of the DC animated movies, because there are two proper continuities, each building up characters and storylines and exploring giant crossovers in a way DC has not come even close to figuring out in live-action.
Given how little resources Warner Bros. have used to properly market this universe or make sure audiences are aware of its continuity,...

Tim Burton's abandoned Superman film, Superman Lives, would have featured a unique and darker version of the character portrayed by Nicolas Cage. The storyline of Superman Lives would have been loosely based on the popular comic book crossover event, "The Death of Superman," and would have included Brainiac, Lex Luthor, and Doomsday as villains. Kevin Smith's original script for Superman Lives included changes such as not allowing Superman to fly, as well as casting choices like Chris Rock as Jimmy Olsen and Sandra Bullock as Lois Lane. Warning: Major Spoilers for Superman & Lois's Season Three Finale Below!Superman & Lois may have set up a tragic Man of Steel story heading into its fourth season. Superman & Lois season three finally saw the debut of Lex Luthor (Michael Cudlitz), a Metropolis crime boss wrongly imprisoned for murder and holding a grudge against both Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) and Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch) for it. In the show's season three finale, "What Kills You Makes You Stronger," Lex reveals his plan for revenge with the arrival of his newly created monster Doomsday.
Superman & Lois ends season three on a cliffhanger with Superman and Doomsday battling on the moon. While this obviously indicates that Superman & Lois season four will pick up with Superman and Doomsday's fight, the cliffhanger could be even darker than it seems. Warning: contains spoilers for The Flash #800!DC has called out Green Lantern as the Justice League's worst member. Green Lantern is a founding member of the League and has been a stalwart through its many incarnations. However, Green Lantern’s intergalactic obligations take him away from Earth often - making his home of Coast City an easy target for super villains, and this gets called out in “Don’t Come to Central City,” appearing in The Flash #800.
The story is written by Jeremy Adams, drawn by Fernando Pasarin, inked by Oclair Albert, colored by Matt Herms and lettered by Rob Leigh. The story opens with a gaggle of D-list villains, including Goldface and the Bug-Eyed Bandit, playing poker at their headquarters. The criminals discuss the heroes who protect the various cities of the DC Universe, such as Gotham, Metropolis, Central City and Hub City, among others, debating the best place to pull a job.

Warning: Spoilers for Action Comics #1055After 30 years, the iconic "replacement Supermen" have reunited with Superman himself in a brand-new story. Kal-El, Steel, Superboy, and even the Eradicator have joined forces to stop Cyborg Superman's latest plan — if they can.
The classic "Reign of the Supermen" characters are "reunited at last" in Action Comics #1055 by Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Rafa Sandoval, Matt Herms, and Dave Sharpe. Cyborg Superman has kidnapped Metallo's sister — yes, the Super-Family is helping Metallo — and the only way to discover Hank Henshaw's whereabouts is to summon the AI-like Eradicator from the Fortress of Solitude, despite Supergirl's hatred of the idea. But the unfeeling Eradicator is indeed summoned, and he leads Superman, Superboy, Steel, the Super-Twins, and Metallo to Henshaw's techno-lair.
Once there, Cyborg Superman reveals himself, and he's the first to acknowledge the historic reunion: "The Superman, and the pretenders to his throne. Look at us, eh?...

The years spent by Bruce Wayne training to become a crimefighter are some of the most fascinating in the Batman mythos, and have been explored in multiple ways across various mediums. A new DC animated feature, Batman: Soul of the Dragon now offers the intriguing prospect of a 1970s-set story wherein a young Bruce embarks on the path to martial arts mastery. We recently received the trailer and first clip from the film, and now have an introduction to Richard Dragon, one of the main characters from the Bruce Timm-produced movie.
In the video, which you can catch above, voice actor Mark Dacascos describes how we meet Dragon in the 1970s as a super spy who trained with Bruce alongside master O-Sensei. We then see Dragon in training, and being pointed out by O-Sensei to Bruce, foreshadowing the partnership between the two depicted in the recent trailer. At this point,...

Batman: Soul of the Dragon sounds like an interesting departure from the usual slate of DC animated movies. The story is set during the 1970s and follows a young Bruce Wayne on the path of martial arts mastery. We’ll see him training with and battling other elite martial artists, including Richard Dragon, Ben Turner and Lady Shiva, all of whom are under the tutelage of O-Sensei.
We don’t know too much about the plot just yet, but the synopsis has teased that the students will have to face off against “a deadly menace from the past.” Who this is remains a mystery, but given the location the film is set in, the kung fu movie tone and the 1970s time period, I think the chances are good that the menace will be a bare-chested Ra’s al Ghul.
Now, we have the first clip from the pic, showing...

Since the title was announced for Justice League Dark: Apokalips War, the biggest question in some fans’ minds was “hang on, who now?” Justice League Dark, the team of magical heroes that includes Constantine, Zatanna, Swamp Thing and a rotating cast of lesser-known mystics, has always had a very specific lane and focus: the supernatural. Not typically included in that mystical lane are Darkseid, Desaad, Apokalips, or the rest of the Fourth World heroes or villains. But the new trailer for the upcoming DC Animated feature sheds some new light on that puzzling “why:” because they’re all that’s left.

Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for Superman: Red Son. This serves as an animated adaptation of Mark Millar's famous 2003 Elseworlds tale that paints the hero we all know in a very different light. Instead of growing up in Kansas, what if Kal-El had grown up in the Soviet Union? As we can see from this trailer, the answer to that question is one that completely recontextualizes the famed DC hero and puts him at the center of a world war. Instead of being a symbol of hope, he's a symbol of fear.
The trailer opens up by turning a classic Superman bit on its head. We see the Soviet version of the hero flying from the sky and a woman down below says, "Look! Up in the sky!" Yet, instead of sounding enthused or curious, she sounds terrified. We then see the world discovering who this mysterious...

Wonder Woman: Bloodlines takes a melodramatic step back from the greatness of DC's last two years of animated films. There's action a plenty and a fair amount of entertainment value, but the story does not match the excellence of recent offerings. The script by Mairghread Scott treads sappy. The mother, daughter, and sister dynamics explored become soap opera-esque. The villains are underdeveloped with a muddy agenda. I wanted more depth from the Villainy Inc. storyline. Wonder Woman: Bloodlines is watchable in its mediocrity, but is not comparable with The Death of Superman, its sequel Reign of the Supermen, and the superb Batman: Hush.
Wonder Woman: Bloodlines begins five years in the past, before the events of Justice League: War. Fighter pilot Steve Trevor (Jeffrey Donovan) crashes into the ocean while battling Darkseid's Parademons. Luckily, he crosses the magical barrier that hides the Amazon refuge of Themyscira. He's saved...

In the midst of all the movie, TV and comic book announcements and trailers that we got at this year’s Comic-Con, the upcoming slate of DC animated films being revealed was one of the most exciting. After all, Warner Bros. Animation has a pretty good track record when it comes to these and they’ve got a lot of good stuff coming down the pipeline, with Superman: Red Son perhaps being the one that grabbed the most attention back in July.
If you’re not familiar with the source material, Red Son was initially published as an Elseworlds story written by Mark Millar and illustrated by Dave Johnson. In short, it explored what would’ve happened if baby Kal-El’s ship had landed in Soviet Russia instead of Smallville, Kansas. And now, we have our first look at what the animated version will be like thanks to the photo in the gallery down below.
